A Brasileira is a staple in the Chiado neighborhood of Lisbon. It's interior is beautiful but the place you want to be is on the patio area. The wait wasn't too long and the staff were friendly. We didn't get food but we got plenty of drinks and enjoyed people watching in the square. This was one of the only restaurants that we went to that had a long wait to get into. My cousin really wanted to try it so we went ahead and we made the line. Luckily the line does move quickly and the wait staff are super efficient at getting you in and out. The tables on the inside are very, very tight, especially if you have coats and umbrellas and all of that. Their coffee was really good. I ate dinner here. I would say come here for a drink, tea, coffee, pastries. The meals are not good. I ordered a steak and the meat was mushy, kind of like it was shredding, and tasteless. The coffee blend sauce they used over the meat was good. Very odd texture. I said no blood on my steak and it came bloody. The poached pear dessert came cold. My waiter's service was mediocre. However there were a couple of other waiter that I spoke to that were phenomenal. This place has indoor and outdoor dining. It is smack in the center of one of the most touristy and busiest street. Always a busy place, sometimes you'll wait in line a few minutes but it's absolutely worth the wait. Celebrating 120 years next year it's one of the best coffee houses in the city. Neighbor to Livraria Bertrand (the oldest bookstore in the world), Brasileira do Chiado, as we natives call it, is a people-watching spot as writers, poets, politicians all stop by for a coffee and their delicious pastries. I came here with my 3 cousins and we had a delightful brunch. I split the brunch tower with one of my cousins. It was filled with meats, cheeses, bread, and fresh fruit. It was a great brunch. We sat inside. The inside is quite cozy, with a dark and moody interior. The serving staff did a great job. We wish we could've sat out on the patio because it was a classic European vibe. This place was on so many blogs and reviews but I do not think it was for the food. The atmosphere was nice and the selection was broad but the items we ordered were a disappointment. We ordered a selection of croissant items and I could not bring myself to take a picture. The stuffed croissant looked like it had been left out all day with the avocado already blackened on the edges. The ham and cheese croissants were literally smashed. We ordered a custard croissant and it also was dry and crumbly, not at all what we expected from a custard croissant. The stars are for the collard greens and potato soup of the day. This is a great historical Cafe opened since 1888. There is a status of a famous author outside the restaurant. The ambience inside is very nice. We had the Portugese Tart (2.2 Euro) and Docaria Conventual (4.9 Euro). They were delicious. read more

It was very busy but they were able to seat us in inside which we were happy with. However, we were down the back and it was extremely hot. Unfortunately the fan above us was broken. We shared a beef croquette which we really enjoyed. I had a Caesar Salad but unfortunately there was way too much dressing. My partner had an Octopus Salad but it basically came out as octopus pieces with a few pieces of bell pepper literally swimming in olive oil. After lunch we were happy to stay on and have coffee and dessert or more to drink but we needed to be outside as it was just too hot. Here is what I have learned: influencers jobs are to make mundane things look beautiful. You spend money there, with the expectation that you will get beautiful things too. Yet I have been sitting in a tourist trap sardined behind an American waiting 20 min for one pastel de nata. It has arrived, plate is stained with other people's fingerprints and what looks like grease and cinnamon from possibly another dish? Lesson for you tourists: don't believe tick tok, the only way to travel is by getting lost and experiencing things first hand, without influence. Just an average pastel de nata. Don't understand the low rating. Is it in a touristy area? Yes. Are there lines? Yes. But you can't deny the history of this place in Portuguese coffee culture. If history isn't enough to convince you - the food should speak for itself. I've been here for coffee, bfast and a small drink. This is more of a bfast spot than anything else - or a small bites and a drink. Where else can you grab a coffee at the same place as icons such as Fernando Pessoa and Amalia Rodrigues. The beef croquette is always a hit but honestly have never had anything I didn't like here. Definitely recommend this spot for anyone who is in Lisbon for the first time. Now that I am thinking about my experience here and why I ended up here, it was more like a tourist trap I'd say along with some of the other reviewers here. I felt like my tour guide was trying to sell me stuff from Lisboa as opposed to naturally give an actual tour. The coffee was good but I don't think there was anything special about it. The food was lovely. I ordered the pancakes, and they came fluffy with lots of fruit and chocolate sauce with granola. The orange juice was fresh as well. I would give this place 5 stars, but the ambiance is not there for me. It was unbearably hot, and if you're seated in a spot where the sun hits you, you're going to absolutely Fry out there as the umbrellas do little to help you. I liked this cafe. It is very centrally located in a busy restaurant / shopping area of Lisbon, historic and atmospheric, and is in all of the guidebooks and is therefore touristy and somewhat more expensive than average. Service was friendly and prompt, and not killer expensive - we had two coffees (excellent as always in Portugal), two sparkling waters and two delicious glasses of Portuguese Moscatel for 18.60 Euros which seemed about right for being on the terrace, right in the middle of a lively scene with street musicians and all. If you want an inexpensive cafe with no tourists, stay away. However, we had fun and would recommend it to experience this lively part of Lisbon over coffee and drinks. Two things I experienced here and not elsewhere in Portugal: first, this was the only place I went to where the waiter brought the check unprompted. Probably this is because it is touristy, and we did not feel rushed in any way. Also he shouted for us (politely, "Sir, Sir!") as we left, I guess thinking we were leaving without paying. He then saw that we had left a 20 Euro note under a glass so it would not blow away, and was apologetic. Moral of the story - pay the waiter directly in Portugal even if he leaves the check at the table, as this is apparently the custom. read more
