We had an amazing dinner and incredible service. We showed up without a reservation and had to sit outside on a cool night. They supplied blankets and we were very comfortable. We starred with the scallops and they were amazing! We then ordered seafood risotto for 2. Another perfectly cooked dish with perfect portions. We finished with a tiramisu. This stop saved our Venice visit! We pulled in on a cruise ship yesterday afternoon. We had dinner at a sub par Italian restaurant. It was our mission today to redeem ourselves before we leave tonight. Mission accomplished! My wife is vegan and they more than accommodated her. I had probably the best pizza in my life. Alex, our server was top notch as well. Finished off the meal with a fantastic cup of coffee Americano. It's a little off the beaten Path but with the walk. Very unprofessional maitre'd. We were 10 minutes late for our reservations and he basically wouldn't let us in the restaurant. He then eventually opened the door and brought us to our table. He claimed we had an 8pm reservation but in fact we had an 8:30pm reservation. Stared us down at the table numerous times until he calmed down. I ordered sea bass with capornata. That is not what I was served. I questioned it and the waiter says that is what he was given. I have no idea what I ate that night. My suggestion is to stay away from this place! read more

So sorry to see that the previous reviews are not so good for this place. We dined here later in the evening, so perhaps they were not as busy as we had excellent service, and a very engaging waiter. The place is expensive, so be prepared for that, and is seafood heavy as one might expect in Venice. Food was solid! read more

I don't agree with most people that say this place is one of the best in Venice and better than Acqua Pazzo (I think owned by the same people). The food is very good, but then again you are in Italy so 99% of the time it is. Where this place falls short is the attitude. The Italian waiters were not friendly, except for their "English menu" who was a very friendly, flamboyant waiter who speaks English. The decor is very modern and refreshing for Venice. It seems like where the Italians go for a nice dinner out, though the last time I was there there was a loud, drunk, embarrassing american woman who had to be sushed by her friends. Its always packed and always recommended by the Europa and Regina but just doesnt get the job done in my opinion. There are better places. read more

This was the best meal we had in Venice. First I have to talk about the staff, they were wonderful and welcoming! Sometimes you get the feeling that the staff wants you to leave so they can get another table sat, NOT here! They wanted us to stay well past 10:30pm (our reservation was at 7:30pm), so we happily sat outside in the perfect Venice weather and sipped wine. Now the food, this place is fresh seafood heaven. I ordered a spaghetti with clams & scallops in an Olive oil sauce, and they did not skimp on the clams & scallops. There was so much seafood on my pasta that I couldn't finish it, I mean, what's more painful than leave scallops on your plate??? This is a must try! read more

This restaurant came highly recommended but it was not good at all. The waiters were very snobby. My clam spaghetti was so salty it was almost inedible. One of the best places in Venice. Staff was very friendly and gave us complimentary dessert and limoncello.

We had an excellent pre-concert meal of a shared raw fish platter (delicious - wonderful mix of crunchy raw vegetables with it that really brought out the flavour of the seafood) and then spaghetti and langoustines, with just the right amount of chili in it to give it a tang but not so much as to make the eyes water. The wine, a 2014 Mandarossa, was a favourite I recognised from the UK and was served nicely chilled. Service was very friendly and efficient. The ambience was quite smart, and perhaps that was either a cause or effect of the fairly high prices - about 120 Euros for 2 of us, for only a shared starter and some pasta with a bottle of wine. Overall, an excellent experience. Oh - and the concert afterwards was first class too, so a good evening all round ! read more

Great food. Service was terrible. Martini arrived after my mussels and came with oiled olives. Oil slick on top of a martini is not an improvement. Enjoyed our meal. Lobster and crab pasta were good and ricotta stuffed shells were tasty. Caprese salad was a bit bland. Tiramisu was amazing - the best we ever had. Seating in the outside area was pleasant. Limoncello was tasty and strong (we did feel like our waiter was trying to get us drunk). Don't expect fast service. It took them 30 minutes to get our order, which seemed like an appropriate amount of time for the "relaxed" atmosphere of the place. Total dinner was 2.5 hours. Taking away 1 star because our waiter tried to get more tip in the end. Menu includes a 12% service charge. The guy was trying to convince us that this was a "Venice restaurant tax and it did not include a tip". We left a little extra anyways, because we enjoyed our meal, but this left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

Our experience with A Beccafico restaurant was more than pleasant. After couple of days of falling for multiple tourist-trap restaurants, A Beccafico came as a prize. Service was excellent, and food was delicious and fresh. They really took care of us, our plates and glasses were never empty. At the end we were offered some complimentary delicious sweet wine. This was the best food and service we had in Venice! From the minute we walked in, they treated us like family. The host was gracious and friendly and was genuinely interested in making us feel comfortable. We ordered seafood linguini and spaghetti with clams and we both loved our food. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was just the right amount. Afterwards they brought us some limoncello on the house and some gelato in orange slices. Surprising the best place my friends and I have eaten in Venice! The square has many other restaurants and is a tourist trap type restaurant. We were called out to eat at their restaurant for dinner, and without reading reviews first, we picked this spot because it had the nicest table setting. The food was the best meal we've had. Situated in the heart of the very lovely Campo Santio Sefano A Beccafico is in a perfect location and has a very well deserved reputation for turning out fine fish and seafood dishes. It's not the place for bargain meal in Venice but you are not going to break the bank either. You have the choice of sitting inside in a nice light and stylish room on rainy days but if the weather is good everyone wants to dine in the covered area outside. This is a very popular place for dinner so make sure you have a reservation or you could be disappointed. Unlike a lot of other places you can dine late here start your dinner at 10 and you will be eating under the stars at gone midnight. This is old school restaurant with a leather bound book housing the menu (which seems much too extensive for my tastes but that seems to be par for the course in most places in Venice) and a separate book for the very good looking wine list. The classic theme is carried on with the crisp white linen tablecloths, stylish place settings and waiting staff in white shirts and black waistcoats. All we wanted was some pasta which was not a problem for our friendly, professional waiter (no pressure to order antipasti etc, etc). While we were waiting for our food to be prepared a complimentary Bellini and some crostini arrived which was very nice (lets not get carried away though the Bellini was a cheap imitation of the real thing). A Beccafico is good for bread lovers with a very tasty selection including an interesting warm crisp flatbread which went down very well. After a bit of a wait, nothing too long but don't expect express service, the pasta dishes arrived: parpardelle con marinara for me and spaghetti with swordfish for B. Top notch pasta which was beautifully prepared and presented. My dish was a mountain of seafood and it took a big effort to finish the plate off if you are not a big eater go easy on the menu or you could be leaving a lot of food. We washed down our pasta with a very nice bottle of the local Soave Classico which was a cut above the Soave we normally get to drink in London. If you decide not to drink the house wine, which is very decent, you will be paying upwards of 25EUR for your bottle. Yet more freebies arrived with our coffee as a bottle of limoncello and another local digestivo were plonked on our table for us to help ourselves. Despite only having had one course a couple of hours seemed to have drifted by very pleasantly and it was time for a late night stroll to St Marks Square to round the evening off in true tourist fashion. read more

Tiramisu was very good, as well as the complimentary bruschetta. More modern decor than nicely rustic Alla Madonna, but the spaghetti with clams was better at Madonna. Overall very nice and the walk from St Mark's Square is through an upscale shopping neighborhood, so no tourist trap souvenir shops. The clientele seemed to be mainly Italian so that is a good sign for the food quality I think. read more

Forget about the negative reviews that claim this place is snobby-- who eats at a higher end restaurant then asks to pack up the bread or tries to walk out without leaving at least a nominal tip?! This is a high end delicious restaurant. The wine list is beyond reasonable and had great wines at the 35 euros range. The shrimp salad is delicious with plenty of fresh arugula. My husband had the sea bass crudo (sashimi). Both were incredible. The people at the table next to us had the mussels soup for two and raved about it. We ate here two nights in a row. The first night we had the sea bass for two-- light and mouthwatering. The second night we had the seafood risotto for two-- also incredible. After dinner, they give you a complimentary small bottle of delicious Limoncello. So good!! Try the great tiramisu. Service was impeccable and food was memorable. A dinner for two with a round of cocktails and a reasonably priced bottle of wine was under 200 euros. read more

Definitely a five star! A bit pricey because of 12% service charge. But it is all worthy! I have been many italian restaurants in New York and Italy, this one tops my list. During our three day stay in Venice, we came here twice, purely for the sake of food. The first time we ordered squid ink spaghetti, warm seafood salad and prosciutto pizza. Everything was impeccable! Spaghetti was cooked right, not too al dente or over cooked. It was not salty at all. Most of time when we ordered squid ink pasta, it turned out too much salt in it. Warm seafood salad was composed of calamari, mussels, clams, prawns and scampi. Lightly broiled with minimum seasoning. Exactly what we wanted since we didn't Particularly love fried food. The second time we order mussels soup and stuffed calamari three ways. Oh man, I'm so glad I ordered them! Mussles soup was cover by bread, similar to chicken pot pie. Once you used the spoon to open it, steam came right out. You can dig the bread into he soup. Delicious! Also, the stuffed calamari was the best I ever had. I was expecting calamari was soft because they were stewed. However, they made it right! The outer shell still keeps the original texture of cuttle fish but with the stuffing they tasted great. Beside the food, the owner often walked around and make sure you are well attended. Awesome service, highly recommend! read more

This place is terrible. I don't know if it changed owners or what, but we had a bad experience here. It took about 20-30 minutes for us to get our first dish -while the place was empty. Then it took about another 30-40 minutes to get the second course. We had ordered ey at the same time... I ordered stuffed shells and the stuffing tasted good but the shells were uncooked. Then I ordered fish of the day, it came with potatoes, they were also not fully cooked. The waiter was nice, the risotto is ok and the pizza is decent; but everything took sooo long I do not recommend for you to go there unless you're not hungry yet and have nothing better to do than to stare at a wall for a couple of hours. Great outdoor dinner here our last night in Venice! The house chianti- the best we've had on our trip so far. The seafood risotto- delicious. Tiramisu best we have ever had anywhere! The wait staff was attentive & helpful - when asked if there were any specials - " Si, everything here is special... What would you like?" The restaurant sits on a relatively quiet square & was the perfect end to our Venice experience. If you are like the guy who wrote that an all Italian written menu was "snooty" stay in the touristy madness around the Rialto or St Marks - if you want a nice dinner come here. read more

Unlike the other reviews, we had a great experience here. I will say the reason for the one notch downgrade was the attitude at first. We made a reservation online. When we got there the waiters couldn't find my reservation but seated us only to get questioned about it again once we sat down. I was wearing jeans and was sporting a few days growth of facial hair. However, when we ordered a bottle of wine though, everyone became friendly. We did deal with three waiters though, at least I think they were all waiters. They all spoke English at various levels of expertise. For the starter we got the mussel soup which is awesome. Mussels in a tomato-wine broth with a thin layer of bread dough baked with it on the top of the bowl. So you open it up and everything comes out steaming and beautiful. I ordered the sea bass, which was very delicious but my wife ordered the ravioli, which was good but not great. We also had the tiramisu for dessert, which comes in a canning jar and there's plenty of it. You also get limoncello and marsala wines with dessert and plenty of it. Service was very nice after the initial issues were taken care of. We were constantly check on by servers and management. When the table got too full the manager had a side table put on to give us more room. The manager also gave us a complimentary sorbet at the end of the night. It was a perfect ending to a beautiful night in Venice at the beginning of our honeymoon. read more

We were referred to this restaurant by Lonely Planet and the Westin Europa and Regina concierge confirmed our reservation for 10:15 due to our late arrival after a long day of travel with children from Rome to Venice. At the onset of our dinner, an incredibly friendly and accommodating gentleman made outstanding recommendations. Most notable was the mussel appetizer which was both beautifully presented and delicious. Unfortunately, our original waiter was replaced by another who couldn't conceal either his disdain for our inability to articulate in Italian or his displeasure for our inability to consume our meal in enough time for him to leave. Regardless of whether he was affronted by our being tourists in general or American in particular, ours was the only table not offered dessert or the customary limoncello that all of the other tables were provided. Instead, we were unceremoniously presented with a check. When I asked the waiter about the abrupt conclusion to our dinner, he sneered, scoffed, and repeatedly assured me that he spoke "7 languages", so I therefore must have missed something in translation. He then switched tactics and blamed the Westin for confirming the reservation in the first place. I wish I could review both the food and service prior to this experience, but our encounter with the particular waiter was so off-putting and discourteous that it completely overshadowed the efforts put forth by the culinary staff. read more

My family and I went to A Beccafico after a large day walking through Venice. We were automatically greeted with a kind smile,which continued throughout the dinner. The service was great! But the food, even better, my father and I had the mussel soup,which is a need-to-get dish as an appetizer. For dinner I had the seafood risotto which is also a great dish. It is visible how much care they put into the food coming out because the wait time between dishes is about 25-30 minutes but it's without a doubt worth it. The dessert was a great way to end the dinner, we had a tiny dark chocolate tart with a side of pineapple ice cream. Overall you should really go to A Beccafico. read more

If you are looking for an authentic venitian meal stay away or you will be sorely dissapointed. On our second to last night in Venice we finally ventured away from our five star resort with its Michelin star chef and decided to have a real Venice dinner (which is our main goal for traveling!) We found this restaurant from the suggestions of some other travelers and were quite excited and only moderately discouraged by some of the less than optimal reviews. Well, let me tell you. We had our resort concierge make a reservation but the host was very rude until we identified ourselves as guests of said fancy resort. The waiter was patronizing and rudely corrected my admittedly poor Italian. He Was not good with suggestions and failed to communicate my desired cooking temp for steak. Even after sending it back with no apologies it still came out undercooked, not to mention the weird beige peppercorn sauce. My mothers swordfish tasted like blood since they had failed to clean out the bloodline. The roasted potatoes tasted like cut up kfc potato wedges and I pray for whatever poor soul ordered the fritto misto. That smelled like the ocean in the worst way possible. I am not one to judge but if you like this place you are a tourist with no tastebuds and you might be better suited at McDonalds. Oh and here's the kicker... I'm out 100euro. At least my 3 oz pour of wine wasn't horrid! So silver lining? read more
