We found this little neighborhood trattoria near hotel by the Piazzale Roma It had a neighborhood restaurant vibe. It was on a side canal away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were welcoming. We were given bread and asked about water and wine shortly after being seated. The red house wine was very good. The bread was also a good Italian loaf. The Primi or first course of grilled octopus and a creamy polenta in sauce were delicious. The secondi dishes of ravioli in truffle sauce, pasta with guniciale and seafood with pasta were also delicious. The grilled veg were firm and a nice addition to the pastas. We came here on a Friday night around 8:30pm with a reservation. It was freezing outside but they had it nice and toasty inside. The restaurant was packed so if you plan to eat here it would be best if you had a reservation. It was about a 25 minute walk from the boat that dropped us off. The food and wine were excellent. We started with the calamari. It was different because it was cooked in a pan with a sauce instead of being fried so that was a new experience but it was good. I had the spaghetti as my entree and I wanted it because I believe it's one of the most simple pasta dishes and I hadn't had it yet and this was day 6 in Italy. Hostaria did not disappoint. The food was amazing. I ordered the truffle ricotta ravioli and it was amazing. My mom ordered the seafood pasta and she said it was the best seafood pasta she ever had. My dad had the carbonara pasta and he really liked it. We then ordered two desserts; the tiramisu and the passionfruit mousse. We've been in Italy for eight days and this was my family's favorite restaurant. My mom kept saying this is her favorite restaurant in Venice lol. The service was great! Even though it was busy, our waitress was attentive. I'd recommend to get a reservation so you can get a seat right away. This lovely restaurant is in the heart of Venice with a view of one of the many canals. The interior is tasteful and the food is well presented. From the selections of wines and food-- everything was a "wow". Had the spinach and cheese ravioli in a mascarpone and truffle sauce which had an essence of the truffle and was not overwhelming. The beef cheeks were amazingly flavorful and fork tender. The carpaccio was wonderful with a blend of sweetness from the balsamic glaze and pumpkin and saltiness from the shaved cheese. The calamari with the cream sauce was excellent with just a hint of heat. The finale of this fantastic dinner was the passion fruit mousse-- not too sweet and just enough of the tartness to cleanse the palate. Pls visit this restaurant. This is the definition of a tourist trap. The food was very overpriced, portions extremely tiny, and unfortunately, didn't taste good at all. I tried the Duck Ragu, and as a duck lover, I was disappointed with the taste of the pasta and the duck in it. I thought Italy would have good pasta, but this place didn't. As far as price, one ravioli dish cost 25 euros, and only had 3 small ravioli pieces. Insanely underwhelming food for the price. I would recommend going farther away from the tourist area in Venice if you want to find better and more reasonably priced food. read more

Great find! We stumbled here at 7:30pm on a Wednesday night and they had only 1 table available but we had to be out by 9:15.... so you knows it's crazy busy! Probably one of my favorite meals in Italy. Before coming to Venice, we had stayed in traverste rome for 6 days, their trendy food neighborhood but honestly it's become touristy and the food is just ok. This place was a 15 minute walk from touristy areas in venice and I think it being a little far off from major attraction makes reviews here more believable. We had the capaccio, which I think I just don't like how they prepare it in Italy in general so no comment there, but the duck wagu and the ravioli was really good. This is one of the best restaurant in Venice. My friend and I went there for lunch while we were in Venice last July 2021. Loved the food and the service there. Friendly staffs and flavorful food. While I was in Milan and Venice, there were couple of places I was actually able to finish all my food because I enjoyed it; this restaurant was one of them. Menu isn't too extensive, so makes it easy to pick what you want to eat. Also good wine menu, with lots of affordable bottles- we went with a Chianti. Overall trendy vibes, very nice space. We started with the mussels which were served in marinara. The sauce was delish, so good stopped up with bread. The bread could've used some improvement. Honestly didn't have a bad mussel in the pot either, all very fresh. We also had some burrata which was nice and creamy. For entrees we each had a pasta, or primi. These are definitely good size portions, you won't leave hungry. I had the rabbit and mike had the spicy mini lobster. The pasta was so fresh, nice and snappy. Great hospitality paired with amazing food left me in awe. We were seated upstairs, as downstairs was filled with prior reservations. I recommend you make a reservation as it is a smaller restaurant. Skipping appetizers, my boyfriend wanted risotto, but wasn't a fan of the pumpkin risotto they offered on the menu. Our waiter offered a squid ink risotto that he could make instead. It was unbelievable; full of flavor, a unique taste you really can't get anywhere else. Beware: it does stain your teeth and lips black momentarily! I opted for the maccheroni, also a great option. The pasta was cooked perfectly and I finished the plate! If you're a wine lover, the Valpolicella was a great option. Full body with not so much of an aftertaste, which I love. Coming from New York, it always blows me away the price of a full dinner. Probably my favorite dinner in Venice for under 100 euros! read more

This was the worst meal and experience we had during our two week stay in Italy. The staff was BEYOND aloof. I understand that Italian service is much less intrusive than in America but we felt purposely ignored and as the staff was generally near the bar area, it was extremely difficult to get their attention. Twice I saw one of the servers flexing his arm in the mirror! Which is actually really funny, but also a waste of my time. Food-wise, I was extremely unimpressed. My husband got the truffle ravioli and I guess it was good, or maybe just had a lot of creamy sauce? I got a paccheri with meat sauce (I think?) and it was SO BLAND. Like just entirely unseasoned. After that really bad meal, I just wanted to leave but felt held captive while we tried to get someone's attention for our bill. This place sucks! read more

Lovely dinner spot. Our hotel called in advance to see if they had soup on the menu, which they didn't, but they said they would make a special seafood soup if we wanted. We got the carpaccio, artichoke and goat cheese and the beef cheeks. And the special seafood soup. To be honest, I only tried the soup because I wasn't feeling well, and it was excellent. I was so sad I couldn't finish it. My husband liked everything else that he ordered. Overall, excellent service and tasty food. I'd love to go back when I can actually eat! I am so happy to report that this lovely, small restaurant provided fantastic service, in English, as my Italian is not so good. Food was awesome, with traditional Venetian plates and all at very respectable prices. We started with a nice bottle of Venetian white wine. Appetizers were mussels, which were perfect and had the most amazing sauce as well, and a lovey caprase salad with arugula, also great. Beautiful food - the ravioli is to die for. Perfectly balanced where the truffle cream infuses flavour but doesnt overwhelm. The staff are also wonderful, friendly and informative. The only criticism i could possibly levy is that the portions were a little small but then we did have the primi plates rather than the secondi ones. Also their google map address isn't 100% percise so you may have to do a little hunting but it all adds to the wonderful ambiance. Trust me, it is a place worth hunting out. read more

I'm titling this review "OUR LEAST FAVORITE aka WORST MEAL IN ALL THE GLORIOUS LAND THAT IS ITALY". I just left and I feel inclined to review to let my peeps know the deal ASAP. Sooo sad to have been let down!! Trip Advisor, Yelp, and the Fork led me here, and I should've trusted my gut when noticing lots of 5 star reviews from people who have only written 1 review. First off, there's pretentiousness- uck. Tartar was fishy and undressed, second course (seafood pasta), was the most over cooked, under seasoned pasta I've had in Italy. It tastes like they made a giant batch that sat, and sat, and sat and was reheated. I asked for some cheese on the side, which was scoffed at, and never received... which the pasta needed, or salt. Water is smaller than waters at other restaurants we've been to. The server tried to up-sell us on wine, after we've been allll over Italy knowing what things cost...for goodness sakes, we just arrived from Tuscany. Salmon was over cooked and dry, and the beef "cheek" sat on a bed of watery potatoes. Insult to injury- we had to ask for the check multiple times, and when we went down to pay, they had given us the wrong bill! Plus the restroom (which is unisex) had no toilet seat(yes, seat), soap, or paper towels to dry hands. How is that sanitary for workers? I hope there's a sink in the back for hand washing with soap. This was our WORST meal in all of Italy in two weeks. I hate to write a review in this state, but I just don't want you to feel as disappointed and unsatisfied as me. Unfortunately, I wasn't there when asked about "how the meal was" because I would have been honest. It stunk. I was too busy trying to MacGyver the restroom situation-lol! This is a small restaurant with prompt and professional service. Although the menu is small the dishes are well prepared and the portion sizes are generous. We booked a few months in advance. Although the dishes are not in the fine dining category, they show some flair above the standard simplistic Ostaria fare. We started with the beef carpaccio and the vegetarian option, artichoke with goat cheese. The beef was plentiful but not overly flavoursome.The pumpkin on the dish was however very tasty. The description of the artichoke starter on the menu could be better as it sounds rather uninspiring but is in fact very tasty. It is actually similar to a vegetarian fishcake with artichoke and feta inside sitting on a slice of eggplant and carrot puree. It was very nice. The main courses of prawns with chutney and seabass with ratatouille were fine but lacked a little bit in inspiration and were not as good as the starters. The wait staff recommended the passionfruit mousse so we ordered that. Although it wasn't actually a mousse (rather more like a panna cotta) it was very tangy and refreshing and we enjoyed it. The service was swift and professional and the wine options were good for the size of the restaurant.
