Food (4/5): Got the salmon and prosciutto chicettas and cannoli. Both were pretty good although the cannoli was a bit hard. Service (4/5): Food was quickly served and we had no issues. You can conveniently take the food to eat around the area. Ambiance (4/5): Nice storefront near the square with a back with a decent amount of seating. The cathedral square is also conveniently nearby.

The food that I ordered, truly disturbing.

When I entered I could already tell that the staff were angry and paranoid. First of all, I had to pay to use the bathroom, and the food was burnt. Another problem was that they weren't ok with me being transgender and assumed my gender based off of my looks. This was the worst restaurant that I have ever been to and I 110% recommend you to not go to it. I also had to pay extra just to sit down and eat my "food". The place reeked of filthy clothes and all employees were males. (For those of you who don't know that is extremely sexist!) Overall the restaurant was a 0/10. I strongly do not recommend.

We stayed right next door and on our first night in Venice we stopped by after dinner for an espresso martini. Daniel made an excellent espresso martini (10/10) with tik tac toe on top. We loved it. We came back the following two nights (the whole time we were there) for end of the night drinks. He is the best mixologist we've ever seen. You may order a drink but he'll ask if you like certain things and create you something amazing and totally different. Most interesting and memorable (other than the espresso martini) was his homemade chocolate margarita and White Russian (handmade cream).

(You would've thought USA vs Italy would've attracted more local attention.) SL was a tiny place, but thankfully mostly empty; we plopped ourselves down and ordered some cold beers (pilsner for me, it being a hot afternoon). They had a decent beer list here - several standard styles from the British isles. I noted they also had some locally made brews (I didn't try them) plus Guinness (a necessity for such a place). The vibe wasn't very Irish beyond the decor and dark interior. The bartender was playing some euro pop on the sound system. Snacks were offered - mostly bread rolls, small sandwiches, and cuts off some oblong pizzas. We sampled a few of the latter to go with our beers. (They were OK.) As for the volleyball, the USA got spanked. Thankfully no celebration from the other side; most of the other patrons were either Americans or Brits. And the Italian bartender didn't seem to care. It's not clear why so many previous patrons have awarded a full 5 stars for SL. (Vacation glee?) For us it met a basic need but was priced high for tourists. I'll give them three stars, plus one extra for offering the game.

Played nothing but American music while we were here. Mostly 90s grunge and classic rock. Right up my alley! They have a full bar and can make pretty much anything you want. The taps are flowing with authentic Italian beers! Overall, I had fun and would recommend it.

Plenty of table outside to watch the world go by - mostly pretty full, but there are always some guests coming and going. A quick wait does the trick. Got a good table and ordered our Cicchetti inside. They do table service here, so you won't carry your Cicchetti out on your own. A nice little service, not even coperto is charged. Despite being a very busy place, the waiting staff does a great job. Got some cicchetti with sardines, radicchio, bacalau/cream, bacalau with sour onions and raisins and also shrimp with sour onions and raisins. The latter two sound adventerous, but were excellent. A fantastic combination of flavors. Sweet and sour. All cicchetti were really tasty, nice combinations, very creative. Ingredients of high quality. The white wine went well with them. Had also some meatballs with. Decent, but not great. But the cicchetti definitely were. Prices are fair as well. Surely must-visit if you're into cicchetti (and wine). Nice place, nice setting. Surely we'll be back.

I got the codfish, octopus, squid, and ham cicchettis - all of which were delicious! The codfish was a classic, and a classic done so well. It was so creamy and smooth but flavorful without being too fishy either - loved it! The octopus was served on top of some hummus and was interesting, while the ham one was a classic. The squid was really good too, as it was warm and cooked in a tomato sauce - so flavorful! We really enjoyed sampling a variety of them and I can definitely see the appeal of these in Venice!

This is actually a historical Venetian cafe' from 1870's called "Caffe' dei Frari o Toppo"[1], and I remember coming here regularly when I was in college to "study", i.e. to hang out with my friends who would also come here during the day. In fact, this is still a cafe' during the day, but it transforms itself in a cocktail bar at night. The vibe is mellow, relaxed and romantic and this bar prides itself on being one of the few in Venice to serve truly inventive contemporary cocktails. The menu is actually divided by techniques: fermentation, distillation, liquid kitchen, and fat wash. We tried the Cucumber and Fake Rose (fermentation: Fermented cucumber, Andaliman pepper, Lillet, verjus and bubbles) and The Amaz-on Fire (fat wash: Yaguara cachaca, coconut oil, Cynar, dill, house sherry mix and Porcini mushroom; peat perfume). Both were excellent, and were presented in an artful way that doesn't feel pretentious. And if you are hungry, the bar serve their own cichetti (bar snacks). I look forward to coming back next year, and perhaps try one of the food-inspired, liquid kitchen cocktails. ------------------------------- [1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/caffe-dei-frari-o-toppo-venezia

It brings delight and minimizes food waste if guests don't like it. * Le Corsaire: A gorgeous soft green drink. Sweet but not sugary, with a lil bit of spice at the end. It was paired with a blue cheese mousse and honey caviar - I don't know how they did it, but it was delicious. The blue cheese taste makes the mousse pop. * Steven had a cocktail that came with a side of yogurt covered with a soft shell (that acted like a water balloon). * Hispaniola: The drink was smoky and something about it tasted like temptation. Paired with a beautifully done meringue (nice and airy!) and a keyboard-smashingly gorgeous caviar.
