I had the most amazing car service experience ever with A&J Towing. While driving my Tesla to San Francisco, we drove over a screw. We heard the rhythmic thumping and pulled over. I was despondent - no other word for it. The following day was the first day of a sales event I had been planning for months. I had no idea how I was going to manage getting to the event and dealing with my tire with Tesla. I can't begin to describe the anxiety I was feeling. After 35 exhausting minutes texting with Tesla service, the solution they came up with was to tow me 20 miles in the opposite direction of my home, leave the car there for service the following day, and have no solution for getting me back to my house. I told them forget it, I'm calling AAA. I submitted the service request on line and was crestfallen when I saw it was going to take another hour and a half before someone got to me. I struggled to get a live AAA person on the phone to see if they could help. When I did get someone on the phone, she said, my service tech, Khalil, will be there in 17 minutes. WHAT?! I didn't see the app had updated. I started texting with the person at A&J Towing in San Francisco. She kept me updated as 17 minutes had passed and no Khalil. He was stuck in traffic. When he showed up (okay 5 minutes felt like an eternity), I told him I had a bolt in the tire and could drive the car on to the flat bed. He then said, oh, I can have you out of hear in 10 minutes. WHAT?! Khalil looked at the screw and said, it's positioned perfectly and could fix it. He repaired the hole in less than 10 minutes, and we were ready to go. I was concerned about driving on a slightly deflated tire, and he assured me it would be okay to drive on the freeway. He offered to follow us to the gas station, but at this point Khalil had earned my trust. We came home, and my hubby looked at the repair. He took it to the gas station to even out the air pressure. I had a great experience with A&J Towing Company, after a pretty stressful situation. I was driving north on Highway 101, leaving San Francisco and heading home to Guerneville, when a panel from a vehicle being towed by one of their trucks suddenly flew off and hit my windshield dead center. Accidents happen, and I really appreciated how A&J Towing immediately took responsibility and made everything right. They acted quickly, stayed in communication, and worked hard to make sure I wasn't left inconvenienced. The driver who helped me was incredibly professional, kind, and knowledgeable. He made the long trip from San Francisco to Santa Rosa, carefully loaded my car, brought it back to San Francisco for the windshield replacement (which looks great and, from what I can tell, all the electronics are working fine too) and returned it to me right on time in Santa Rosa. When my car broke down at Ocean Beach in San Francisco last night, I needed to have it towed back to my home in Oakland. Khalil showed up within about 15 minutes of my call and loaded my car up onto his flatbed. I sat in the passenger seat of his cab, and as he drove us back across the Bay we shared life stories -- Khalil was one of those rare folks born-and-raised-in-San-Francisco, while I grew up near Washington DC. We also swapped tow truck driver stories (his) and cab driving stories (mine) -- I was a San Francisco cabdriver for 28 years before Uber and Lyft came along. Khalil (and I hope I'm spelling his name correctly) and I had each been mugged at gun point a time or three. When we hit bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway Khalil expertly weaved his way across four lanes of traffic to an exit ramp and drove empty surface streets to the last entrance to the Bay Bridge, shaving ten minutes off our ride. It was a nice clear evening in October, with lights twinkling all around the Bay Area, and by the time Khalil rolled my car off his truck in front of my house, I was almost sad to see our ride end. It would have been fine with me to keep going all the way back to, oh, maybe Washington, DC. What had seemed to be a bit of a disaster a couple of hours earlier had turned out to be an entirely delightful experience for me. Thank you, Khalil... (Well, would you look at that! Unreliable AAA partner. Sent them the exact description of the truck, and they sent a tow truck that's too small to do the job. Won't even attempt to tow and will abandon you and tell you that AAA dispatch will send someone else. He went above and beyond and reconnected the hose by stopping by O'Reilly's to pick up a clamp glue and some tape and I was able me to drive my car three days later to my mechanic to have it fixed, I give him 10 stars for his help when I called AAA. He said he was assigned a truck that was too big for the job since I'm on a narrow SF street so he called in for a smaller truck.
