I called them and they said it would take about an hour. 25 minutes later a very helpful guy came and picked up my car, and got me to the tire shop with no problem or fuss. I was hit with a flying object ruined the front of my car on my way to San Francisco on May 31, 2023. I called my insurance and they provided me with towing. The first two towing company refused to tow me because I was like two hours away from where I was toward the city. Come to the rescue, Nelson the owner himself came to tow my car, I came along with him to the city. It was after midnight when he got to me. Nelson was very nice and understanding to what I was going through. He has empathy and very friendly. One of the worst experiences I had in a long time after giving screenshot locations, dropping a pin from my cell phone, giving them the location. The tow truck driver threatened to leave me because he said he couldn't find me. I told him the exact direction I was headed when I popped my tire and extremely detailed directions to get to me, understand that is still frustrating sometimes to find someone on the side of the road so I benefit of the doubt, but once the tow truck driver arrived, he is very rude. He parked his tow Truck may be a football field away from where my car was requiring me to drive my car on two flat tires, which will mess up my rims. I refuse to do it and he got irate. I told him that he can do it. I'm not messing up my rim and his company can pay for my rim which made him even matter and became more rude understanding that I'm in a situation where I've been sitting on the side of a road for 2 1/2 hours. I didn't wanna not get my car towed so I didn't give attitude, but I did not move my car. I backed my car up so he can fit his tow truck in the section where I was at. He drove my car up onto the truck and took my car to the service center once we got to the service center you still be rude with an attitude it made me drive my car into the service center on two blown out tires instead of parking a tow truck near or the car needed to be parked Nelson towing will be my last resort for any type of towing and should be yours. Top notch service. Unfortunately, my car has had way too many flat tires. These guys have been very responsive and professional. One night, they were short an employee because a tow truck driver called in sick. The owner of the company got into a van and served his customers. It was rainy and miserable out. Had he not done that, we would have been stranded for quite some time. You never want to have to need a tow truck, but if you do, these guys are the ones to work with. And they don't upcharge you for Teslas, like so many other services do. They know what they're doing. read more

This was the best service I have ever received and other than being on time and knowing what to do the man Ishmael was now 0of the nicest individuals I've ever met. My profession was traveling the world to help soldiers and their families, I say this to say that I do know people. First he was patient, stayed until I arrived because I live in a retirement community and was not any the front desk when he arrived. Not sure why there is any negative review, They weren't on your schedule timing, they were rude? For one when you call a tow they come as fast as they can through whatever traffic (and in the city traffic is Fucking Horrible) and rude? I doubt anyone from Nelson's towing were ever rude! Was on my way to the hospital when my car started to billow white smoke. I knew that I had to stop driving asap when the check engine light came on but needed to get to my appointment. Luckily, I was able to stop in a safe place and called my insurance. I was told the person assisting me was going to be at my location within an hour to 90 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to have Walter, from Nelson's Towing, get to me well before the ETA. Not only professional and nice but also a very caring person. I could tell he really wanted to help me and he got me to an auto shop just before they closed. Given my predicament, I was genuinely relieved by the help I received from Walter. I wish I had caught his name, but my tow truck driver was super professional and kind. He definitely knew how to tow motorcycles to ensure they get there safely and without further damage. I called them through AAA, and they got to my place within an hour. Sometimes tows take a long time, so no big deal when that happens, but it was a nice surprise how quickly they arrived. This is the worst towing company I've ever used. There is a transmission problem with my car so I requested towing service through chase roadside assistance this morning. They told me the estimated time of arrival was 1 hour later. After 1 hour and half wait, no one arrived. I called in to check where the driver was and they said they will find out and call me back. However, they never called back. I had to call again to see where the driver was and they told me they were 30 mins away. Ok, so I waited for another 30 mins. Still, no one arrived. I had to call them again and they said they did not have an answer and told me to call insurance. The customer service rep was extremely rude and impatient. I had to call chase again to cancel the service and request a new towing company. It looks like I'm not the only one with such a bad experience and I was seriously wondering why such a business still existed. Chase - please stop working with this company. read more

These guys are lifesavers, I came up the SF form Santa Cruz to pick up my bike but the air quality was too poor and I didn't feel comfortable riding 1.5 hrs straight in unsafe air conditions. I was worried though, because it was a last minute call and I couldn't meet them at my house. Luckuly these guys are awesome and showed up within the hour and dropped it off in my driveway AND EVEN PUT THE COVER ON IT! Herman from Nelson's Towing was a god-send, I highly recommend! Read on if you want to know the details. My car was parked in a parking garage, 2nd floor, and wouldn't start. I called my insurance company, State Farm (they were impossible, but that's another review) who sent out someone to give me a jump start. I waited an hour, the guy comes, can't get it started, tries a couple of different things, tells me there's something wrong with my security system, then drives off. After another round of calls to State Farm to request a tow truck, I'm given another 70 minute window, but much sooner than that, Herman from Nelson's calls me to say he has arrived. He carefully guides his tow truck into the garage and tries to start my car unsuccessfully. Then he does something under the hood, tells me to try to start it, and it started immediately. He carefully showed me what he had done (tapped the starter with a wrench) and I was able to drive home on my own. He also filled out my tag with "battery check" only, so if I need a tow before arriving at my mechanic, I still have that option with my insurance company. Bottom of the barrel is an insult to the barrel. I was in an accident that totaled my car. The tow guy shows up and starts driving. As he's driving he mentions taking it to his body shop (we deliberate but I say No because I do not know all of the details). So he gets off the wrong exit to the shop anyways. We deliberate further and I tell him No and we go home. Then on the way home he quotes me $475 for the 8 mile tow! I call my insurance company and they confirm they will cover the tow just as I expected. After 10 minutes of my insurance company speaking to them and repeating themselves over and over, the driver finally gets the message that I am covered. I then get quoted $90 Dollars by the driver for 3 miles of extra tow. I waste another 1/2 hour with my insurance as they have to explain once more to the driver I should not be charged $90 dollars, in fact, my insurance will cover it all. He insists on the $90 dollars until my insurance (this is midnight now) sets him straight and calls his manager to set the record straight. The driver then re-engages the tow truck to my car (the car was already disengaged) and starts rocking the front end back and forth further displacing the front side of the car and making the wreckage worse. The whole ordeal took 3 hours and ended at 1:00 AM. I am hoping the people in the company are better than the driver. The driver deserves negative stars! read more

Yelp really needs an update to allow for at least ZERO STARS, if not the option for NEGATIVE STARS! I've only ever written a couple of reviews on Yelp, however, after my experience with Nelson's Tow the other day , I felt compelled to add my story to the overwhelming amount of negative reviews already present. While on my way to work in San Francisco, my car started overheating and was not fit to drive. I was barely off of the bay bridge when I called my insurance and requested a tow to a friend's shop 12 miles away in Oakland. I was told that a truck from Nelsons would be there within the hour. I gave them the full hour before contacting dispatch to see where the tow truck was. In all my years of dealing with customers, what came out of this man's mouth still amazes me. "There was too much traffic on the bridge so we cancelled the tow." I replied, "Did you not think it necessary to inform me or my insurance that you had cancelled?" "I figured someone would call eventually." And then HE hung up on ME! I was dumbfounded. I don't know how this company is still in business with all of the other reviews/stories like mine throughout their page. I hope they are closed down soon. read more

Mike is my savior. My car just died a second after I started it. That night I called triple A to replace the battery. The guy said my battery levels were acceptable, and even tried to jump it. He said that he's never seen anything like it before . I called Geico the next day to have my car towed to Stewart's Dodge, and that's when I met Nelson's towing (cue in the choir). Mike wanted to check under the hood first, and went straight to my fuse box. Turned out the fuse to the direct battery was loose. We did a jump/high five celebration in the middle of the street. I was having the worst day ever trying to get my car back (that was stolen and recovered) from the police impound and Nelson's Towing made it SO much better. Between talking to Auto Recovery and my insurance, Roberto and another gentleman (I did not catch his name) from Nelson's towing showed up within 30 minutes from when my insurance called them. I am 7 months pregnant and they gave me a ride to the impound, and then to the dealership to have my car worked on. They were sweet, kind and patient as I dealt with insurance/impound yard. Never rushed anything and always asked how I was doing. I was overwhelmed and in tears when they showed up due to the chase to get my car back, and they assured me that everything would work out. Wow. One of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called my Chase Reserve to complete a booking for my car since it's not starting. The estimated time for this towing was for 8:00AM-8: 30 AM, however, the tower did not arrive until 9:30 AM which was fine. I calculated for that. When the tower arrived, he notifies me that there is a $75 minimum. Unaware of this, I told him that I can call the auto shop or my credit card and get back to him. Instead of allowing me to do this, this employee said "You know this is not worth my time, I'm just going to cancel" and hung up. Baffled, I tried to call Nelson's towing owner to inform him of my interaction. Instead of hearing me out, the owner continued to interrupt me, said he should never have picked up this order and also hung up on me. When I tried to call back, he said he was "driving" and couldn't talk. I understand that you're driving and don't want a ticket, but perhaps as an owner, you need to find a better way to communicate with your customers. The way this owner demonstrated his customer service skills is appalling and I am not shocked where his employee learn his communication skills from. This towing company is all about greed, money, and minimum. They don't care about the customers or care about helping someone who is in need. If I could give them no stars I would, if you have a choice, I would avoid this towing company at all cost!! When i called them to bring my car to american tire the next day they refused to do it. So i called my car insurance and have my car towed to the designated place i want. The auto body shop that is affiliated with the towing service is a little known gem. After having my car demolished by the legally blind that somehow are allowed to drive around the streets of SF, I brought my auto to Nelson's. The invoice lacked specific detail (Here is the bill in all of its glory: "Repairs, $x."), and a gentleman with tattoos around his neck encouraged me to pay it and ask no questions. Nelson is generally unavailable via telephone when the repairs are not on time and budget. All the same, the finished repairs are splendid. The car drives and looks the same as prior. read more

Worse towing company ever. Customer service is slow and rude. I had a double tire blow out and needed roadside assistance. Called my insurance company and they dispatched nelson's towing. Was promised arrival within 45 minutes and over 2 hours later they arrive. Had to call my insurer 3 times, wasn't able to get in contact with them and upon arrival additional wait time for approval. Once I got to talking with my insurer, they decided to cancel the tow leaving me stranded. I wanted them to tow from sf to alameda, they wanted to tow my car to their lot instead. Seems very shady. For starters, they wasted 2.5 hours of my time and their time. Their driver wad rude, their customer service was rude, there was no follow-up communications to show that they care about staying in business. Everyone needs to stay in business and every customer is precious. If they don't understand that then they cannot earn the trust of any customer. Much less stay in business. I hope that don't go and leave people who depend on their services hanging like this. If anything, word of advice, don't trust or utilize this company. They'll leave you high and dry. read more

They were incredibly helpful, kind, and understanding during the whole ordeal. Answered any questions I had and reassured me. Very pleased with the service Nelson's Tow provided this morning. My goal was to take the car into the shop for repair (including replacing the battery), only to find the car battery dead. And on top of this, the street cleaning was due to begin in 30 minutes. My insurance's dispatch connected me with Nelson's Tow, who promised to be there within 30 minutes. When I called the phone number for the towing company, the man who answered was very polite and even confirmed where I was located. My car got jumped and made it just fine to the repair shop. Bottom line is that the tow company rep was there before 30 minutes, in the midst of rush hour, and even recommended that I replace the battery - good advice! Whenever I think of towing, I think of those red trucks, kept in great condition, rolling around the City and servicing tow needs. I have State Farm insurance, and after two of my tires were slashed overnight, I called them for roadside assistance. I was happy to find out that they were dispatching Nelson's. And lucky me - my driver was Nelson, himself. It was a very short transaction, really. A quick giddy-up on the flatbed, and around the corner to the tire store. But, in that twenty minutes, I received excellent customer service, and I wouldn't expect anything less from an owner, really. Though, I'm sure we've all had instances where we've experienced an owner who DOESN'T know the meaning of customer service. In those instances, we usually vow never to give them business again. Nelson has certainly won a loyalist. Additionally, the woman who I spoke to on the phone, was equally pleasant. Though getting to me was delayed due to street closures from the Nike Womens Marathon, these two made what started off as a crap day finding my tires slashed, to me being upbeat and happy to have moved on from initial frustration. read more

Juan is amazing! Our car broke down in SF on a Friday night and Juan showed up to our rescue. He was so kind and have us advice on where we should park it safely to get it looked at in the morning.
