Michelle was wonderful in helping us get set up with our storage unit. After spending the entire day visiting other facilities, nothing compared to the ease and pricing at A1. Many places had high base rates, misleading "free month" promotions, price increases, and extra insurance or admin fees. We also checked Trojan and Extra Space--Trojan, in particular, advertised two free months online but only honored it if you moved in exactly on the 1st of the month, which is unrealistic. In contrast, A1 honored a free month even though we moved in mid-month and ultimately gave us a much better deal. Michelle made the whole experience smooth--highly recommend! read more

Warning ‼ Moved in 4 months ago, and just received a letter saying they're increasing my storage rent $100 due to periodic market adjustments. Now I have to rent a U-Haul again to move out. $330 + $14 insurance $344 for a 5x5 is insane. No wonder I see people move in and out of this facility frequently. I have been at this location for years, I never have any issues with the location it's at, the spaces itself (always clean), they have a restroom next to the office (your code will open it), the convenience of their hours is amazing !! 6:00am-10:00pm ; that being said you must be out the gate before 10pm or alarms will sound. East portal access, easy auto pay, military discount available and if you have renters insurance you don't need to pay for additional insurance on unit. Been a customer for more than 10 years in a large unit. Prices have increased, but service has not had improvements. Security has been good so I won't give this place 1 star. But request for services like insect extermination and simple unit repairs have been like pulling teeth to get done. On site folks are available, sympathetic but really don't have much power to get things done. I chose Storage because I want a secure, quality place to store my belongings, have access to it. I give it 5 stars because the people, the service, the place are all nearly perfect. I used this storage for 4 months for my clothes and books. It is very clean, dry, and save. There are no dusts, bugs, spiders, whatsoever. The air is fresh inside the building and there is no bad smells. There are carts for you to use and the elevator is convenient. You can easily access your room during day time and night. It is well lighted in the night. The gate is secured, and the street is save. They response to your question very fast through phone and emails. The only one thing I would like to suggest to improve is about the metal lock. Everyone need to buy the door lock when move in, which is of a special type, and you need to bring it with you when move out. I do not think the lock can be used for anything else, therefore it is a wast of the natural resources. Is it possible to be recycled and used by another person? Thank you very much. read more

A-1 on Oakland Rd is a well-lit, secure and clean facility. They have drive-up access to the building beyond the security gate. Most of the units are accessed through the interior of the building, with 3 elevators to reach the floors above ground level, so it's very convenient. My unit was clean. I noticed rodent bait positioned in various locations, but I think that's common for storage facilities. No rats to be seen! I like that they have music playing inside the building. Several times I have seen security guards and employees around the building, so it seems relatively safe for a storage facility. A-1's customer service is top notch. I was always helped quickly and efficiently on each of the 4 occasions when I called. Their kiosk in the front is connected to their customer service person. You can easily just go to the facility, rent a space, buy an obtain a lock, and talk to a rep, all front the machine. Very easy! As far as billing, it's easy to pay online. They did raise the rent by $10 at the end of the year, which I wasn't too happy about. Even though they are not the cheapest storage place, I feel that I did get what I paid for, and all of the positive things about this place are worth the few extra bucks per month. read more

The place is clean, but beware of price increase. If you rent for 1-2 months, it may be OK. If you are thinking of renting for long term, please beware that the manager will raise your rent every few months. Even when the listed price on their website is much lower than your rent, the manager (Chris) will refuse any price reduction. I offered him to sign 1 year contract with the new price on website, but he refused. He said I can pay for 1 year in advance but he will use the same higher old price with no discount at all. I finally moved to Brokaw self storage (445 E Brokaw rd, San Jose). They are equally clean, secure and they have a very nice manager. Brokaw self storage has very competitive pricing and if you are willing to sign 1 year contract they give 13th month free, 6 months contract 2 weeks free. read more

Recently moved some items into this facility temporarily before moving them into a house. Everything went great! Got 50% off of a large 10x30 unit that was easily accessible from the road you drive in on. 18 wheeler accessible even. The gentleman who helped me through the whole process is named Chris. He was great to work with from start to finish. As a matter of fact, I just moved everything out of storage yesterday and Chris called me today to see how everything went and if I still needed the space or not.
