I have been using the A-1 self-storage at 1501 Frazee Road for more than 15 years. Recently, after more than 10 years in a unit I decided to get a larger unit. I went to the office and Lulu helped me find exactly what I needed for a desirable price. I have been in the office multiple time and the staff have always maintained professionalism in handling my requests and/or issues. I have also had storage at nearby locations with other businesses and A-1 has been the best by far. That is why I will likely continue using this centralized, easy to access, secure location for another decade or more. read more

The facility is clean but the front entry gate is always broken. There are alot of homeless people who hang outside both entry gates at night, so I would be careful visiting at night. read more

I rented a storage unit at this location in January. It has not even been 4 months. My rate was $59 per month. I was shocked to learn they raised my rental fee 39%!!!!! This is OUTRAGEOUS. The condition of these storage units are subpar. Any company that pulls this kind of a greedy stunt does not deserve anyone's business. This can't' be legal. DO NOT rent from these people. read more

Fraud! This place will charge you more than you agreed to and won't send you "proof" that you signed. They charge you more and more with no evidence to back it up. Lulu at the office and Robert the area manager are no help. STEER CLEAR FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! Check in to get a free lock for your unit. Ugh, storage. We're in the middle of a move, temporarily downsizing to get out of our condo to get it ready to sell. We've lost more than half of our square footage in doing so, which means that we don't have room for most of our stuff. It's a necessary evil, but at least the people we've encountered here have been friendly and helpful. Let me tell you a story. We'd gone in to view a unit and see the area. We were taken to an available unit in the size we wanted, and chatted with one of the guys working that day. He told me I could check in on Yelp to get a free unit lock, which I did. Back at the office, he had us review and sign the contracts for the unit rental, and we were on our way. Fast-forward to the day of our move. We had the movers go from our condo to the storage facility, and asked that they take a peek at the unit to make sure all our stuff would fit. They suggested we get a bigger unit. *sigh* Into the office we went, asking if there was a way we could upgrade the unit we'd just locked in for something slightly bigger. Of course they were able to get us a bigger unit, also on the second floor, that same day. It's a good thing they were able to accommodate us, because our junk would never have made it into the original one. So far, so good here. We do need to go back to undo some of the storage mistakes made by the movers, but that'll come another day. Later. I'm taking off one star because they do add on a $12/month fee for insurance, which you cannot opt out of, and which is not advertised in their online pricing. This facility is super clean , safe and the staff are fantastic n very very helpful! I keep my things here and I feel very good knowing there's surveillance cameras as well as a 3 point security system once you enter definitely worth the extra money! Worst experience ever with this A-1 site, no reliable customer service, they expect you to follow up with them instead of them following up with you. Like we don't have nothing to do! NORMAL PEOPLE WORKS AND HAVE BUSY LIFE !!! I have had storage on other locations with A-1 and other provider, they have always being on the lookout and ready to help. NOT HERE! Water got into my almost $300 unit through the ceiling even though the unit has a 2nd unit above. I reported the issue to the office, they look at it, they took pictures and nothing has being done until now. They were not ready for the rain or the damage after the rain. You better have renters insurance ready to call them because the girls in the office do not know what the crap to do and would not follow up with you. If they follow up with you will be so you can follow up with them. Yeah, now let's play on the phone! Not that it rains often in San Diego. But, following with you AFTER A MONTH OF RAINS just so they can offer something to cover your stuff, is ridiculous. On top of everything, they would not have answers but, will be full of questions. In conclusion; WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. EXTRA SPACE STORAGE IS ACROSS THE STREET , GO CHECK IT OUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH A SIMILAR SITUATION!! Great customer service and very convenient location. We were able to get the first month free because of a promotion however I wish the regular monthly prices were lower. For the size though , an 8X10 and $202.00 a month including insurance , that's not too bad compared to other companies. read more

I was very worried about cost and she advised me to go up the street & check prices there, she cared that much that I had the most cost-effective storage space! Super patient, really truly cares what's best for you. The storage units here are super clean, it's not super hot inside either, so you can go in and put your things away without getting too sweaty and gross, and your fragile stuff and batteries, etc. aren't in danger of melting and getting messed up. We got a storage Saturday and ended up needing another storage...sooo we got another one Sunday. IT'S super easy and fast to get a storage here all they ask for is ID that's it, no deposit, no down payment just simple and straightforward. They do require you to have renters insurance but hey this is an extra fee to secure your belongings. They also take the time to show you to the unit! The units are clean with well ventilated areas for the inside units and great lighting too. For upper level they have an elevator with a cart, very convenient.
