Good food, decent prices and a very chipper waitress named Erin. The only downside of our lunch excursion was the french onion soup. Really, it was more like a french onion STEW, hardly any broth, so I wanted to send it back but hubbie didn't want to stop eating so I just let him finish it off. He had their meatloaf, which, unfortunately came with bbq sauce on it. Will try to remember to ask for NONE of that, thank you very much. It was juicy but the bbq sauce overwhelmed it. If yu read my previous review from today you can guess this is where we went after leaving the previous place disgusted. Exact opposite experience. We settled into the Bar area in a booth and were quickly approached and placed our drink and appetizer order. After delivering our drinks (two Frosty cold Beers) we placed our food orders. The appetizer was buffalo Chicken Flatbread served with lettuce crumbles of Blu Cheese and two sauces- delicious. Next came our main entrees, Sirloin Tips and Chicken Tenders. ( I substituted smashed potato's for fries) The tips were seasoned and cooked to perfection as were the tenders. Great food Friendly fast service. Great dining experience. We enjoyed our meal here until the waitress at the table next to ours made a snide comment about my daughter's crying. One, she was actually smiling and laughing at the neighboring tables. Whether the bar is full or not service takes forever there. I think the staff could be more efficient if asking if the customers would like to order when drinks are put down on the table. I keep coming back for the food, friendly atmosphere, and quality service. I cannot stress enough how important this restaurant has been in these formative years of my life, and just how good and reasonably priced the food is. I feel passionately about very few things in life, but I can say with confidence that the 99 Restaurant and Pub is one of these things. I've visited this location many times and now with the new makeover it's better than ever. My visits have usually been at lunchtime midweek when it isn't overly crowded. Food is consistently delicious and always reasonably priced. They have a good selection of gluten-free choices of which the balsamic chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli is my favorite. I left astonished one night after being ignored at the bar with my boyfriend while every other patron was served, not only drinks but all their meals as well. Other patrons were arriving at the bar after us but being served while we were blatantly ignored. After we finished our first round of drinks we tried every attempt to show that we were ready to order(ie.putting down our menus, putting our menus away, attempting to make eye contact, asking kindly, etc.) but we were continuously ignored and others were helped ahead of us. Finally everyone at the bar had finished their meals (the very same meals that they didn't even have yet during this whole waiting period). I had already commented to my boyfriend that I thought the bartender seemed either drunk or high. He was acting very loud, rambunctious and out of character. After being ignored for this amount of time we began questioning what exactly was going on. Because everyone else was being served during this time we felt we were possibly being blatently ignored, which confused us. To make one final attempt to get their attention my boyfriend asked in a more direct way if we could please get some service. Everything in the universe came to a halt. The bartender stopped spun around, stared my boyfriend down in a way that exuded intimidation. He then responded that he would get to us "as soon as he could". That was BS. He then told us how busy it was. That was BS as well. We were sitting at the tiny bar in Stoneham, and there were empty seats when we arrived. While we waited everyone finished their dinner, had their leftovers wrapped up, waited for and then paid their bills. There were no patrons waiting for seats at the bar. That's how "busy" it was. So Mike from that point, took everything up about 15 notches. It was quite clear(not only to us) that he was intentionally slamming things around. He also extremely loudly and repeatedly thanked all the guests that were paying their bills "FOR THEIR PATIENCE ON SUCH A BUSY NIGHT"!! He's staring my boyfriend in the face while "thanking" the others. This was just too much for me. We just wanted to come out for a nice low key dinner. But I could see that wasn't going to happen with Mike. We decided that we were not going to order food from him. I'm not quite sure what happened that night. I was a regular customer of the Ninety Nine Restaurants since my Nana would take us as kids. I've worked in the restaurant service industry and understand how tough it can be. I always tip 20% and usually tipped more like 23-25% because it's important for me to take care of the people that take care of me. I was practically in tears leaving that night. I stopped and discussed my experience with the bar manager. He was kind, but all he did was ask me to do him a "favor" and "come back again". Needless to say we left starving. Next day I am still so upset so I reach out to human resources. The manager called me and listened to experience was. He was kind enough to apologize and offered to send a gift card along to try to mend the situation. That was nice and all, but he sent a gift card for $25. Honestly, $25 will get my boyfriend and I one drink each plus a tip. Is that a joke? For us, that felt a like a smack in the face. I really like the 9's...a lot. Nice place to take your mom to lunch. Decent portions, reasonable prices, and efficient service. Whenever I've been to the 9's, I've always left satisfied. The food isn't the ABSOLUTE best...a bit run-of-the-mill, but I've never had a bad experience dining here, and I've been a patron for over 25 years. (Referring to other locations, as well.) And you can't beat 'Kids Eat Free After a Sox Win' days. Only reason I didn't give them more stars is because the 9's experience doesn't exactly blow me away...I just know I can expect a decent meal for a decent price and receive decent service here. This has always been my go-to spot to eat close by, sit down dining is a far better experience than take out. It should be standard that utensils and napkins be included in each take out order without needing to be requested that's just good etiquette and service, and if I'm parked in the "to go" area and doing "to go" take out and when I call and my vehicle info is given, it is understood you will be bringing my order out to me, service in this aspect is below average and disappointing. read more

Favorite: Seasoned salmon with asparagus (additional charge but worth it). Food is consistent and they do a really good job hiring nice servers. I can't stand their parking lot... Cars take a right into their parking lot fast off of 28 North. Always be on the lookout after you have dinner and are crossing the the parking lot to your car for that fast driver coming in. read more

My husband and I use to be regulars but since they changed ownership we have been dissapointed in almost everything. I just ordered and payed for a very dryed out piece of chicken and linguini that was swimming in broth that they call Marsala sauce; terrible! My husband got the prime rib which he enjoyed once before; but not tonight....no consistancy! And atmosphere? Who in the world wants to read 100 reasons to be sittling where they are sitting? Very stupid idea. The new owners are a big dissapointment; they shouldn't have tried to fix what was NOT broken! This is a last resort restaurant now. :( read more

I'm not a big fan of "chain restaurants" but I had to write in about this particular 99. My husband and I randomly ended up in Stoneham a few weekends back and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The host was friendly and funny. He made a comment "sorry about the long walk" when he seated us at the first/closest table. I like funny people and especially sarcastic so I was already in a good mood. Our waitress, I think her name was Brianne was GREAT. She was so genuine and professional. We were a party of 6 with one member having food allergies. Let me say that you should avoid this restaurant if you have a soy allergy or just want to avoid soy. We ordered our food and 4 out of 6 had a great meal. My daughter ordered a wrap with no cheese...she got cheese. My grandson (with the allergies) was told he could have his chicken tenders and fries. As we waited a manager came out and told us the only things on the menu without soy was steak, broccoli and applesauce. That is quite disappointing to a child who is expecting chicken tenders. We were almost finished eating when his steak came out. As I cut it, the manager came back out and said, I'm sorry, can I have that back? It wasn't made right. So now we had to wait for another one to be cooked. Did I mention that he is only 3 and had to watch everyone else eat French fries. I certainly would have never ordered French fries had I known he couldn't have them. If you have or know a 3 year old try eating fries in front of them and tell them they can't have any. We went here for a late dinner. We ordered the sirloin steak dinner with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli and one of their appetizer salads. The service was prompt and the food was good. The salad was written up as consisting of mixed green and it appeared to be mostly made of iceberg lettuce, so that's why I gave them 4 stars. Otherwise everything else was pretty good. 99 has great food and good prices. the atmosphere is so so, a little bright, and the decor is a smidge unthemed and lacking -- before renovations, a lot of these locations were better. my only other complaint is that it isn't so great for drinking and doesn't have a lively or well placed bar. mostly older people, and not too many specials for alcohol. 2 dollar bud select draughts are nice, though. read more

Well I never had a problem with dining in here. Note to self if you ever order food to go prepare to be disappointed. I live right down the road 5minutes tops. By the time I go home the burger was destroyed by greese; needless to say it had to be eatin without the buns. The boneless wings were cold and god awful. Worst part was the french fries my girlfriend had legit SIX fries to go with her soggy burger. Needless to say if you want take out food id recommend Burger King up the road a little. I've been here many times over the years, with the most recent visit being last night. Our group got the buffalo wings and potato skins app...classic bar food, but good. They accommodated the special request to put the buffalo sauce on the side (for the spicy food hater in our group), which was good. My meal was delish - I had the baked salmon with spices only - no glaze. It came with grilled tomatoes, asparagus, and broccoli. The salmon came out perfectly; the way I can never get it at home!! I appreciated this healthy low-cal option after having had those fried apps and some popcorn. All of my dining companions were equally happy with their meals. The last time I was here my drinking partner and I got frozen margaritas, which weren't the best of the best, but they were really really good for a cheap, random, mid-week lunchtime buzz!!
