    Carnitas Mac N Cheese
    April M.

Everyone was super friendly. Lots of regulars. I had the Carnitas Mac and Cheese and it was perfect. Carnitas had great flavor, cheesy, and the macaroni wasn't mushy. Instead of table bread, they serve buttered popcorn. Very fun. Even my husband munched on the popcorn while we waited for our food.

Beginning of a new journey. Thank you

It's always a great spot for lunch and dinner. The staff is great and bartender is my best friend for life. Thank you for welcoming me to 99.

5 stars for professional server Beth and friendly hostess Sue. 0 stars for the kitchen = 2 stars overall. The ribs here are the cheapest and fattiest that are available for human consumption. BBQ sauce is cheap and too sweet as well, no smoke. . Not nearly enough cheese on the Nachos and the fresh guacamole the menu claims is frozen not to mention there is no fresh cilantro....also listed on the menu. A sprinkle of tomatoes and jalapeños was a joke as well. Worst Nachos ever. There was once upon a time when low quality and low cost chains had a niche customer, but are fading fast with this one leading the way. The Nacho photo is from the Portsmouth Brewery, NOT the 99 and recommend the GM visit there to see how Nachos are made properly.

I love the 99 I go here frequently but I went yesterday for lunch, the waiter was very cold and not welcoming at all. I also got a chipped glass, luckily I saw that it was so I didn't hurt myself. But maybe be more attentive so no one gets injured.

Upping my review for the awesome care I received after I made my raw steak review. Jesse(?) The GM gave me a call and we talked and he will be compensating me for my poor experience with a gift card. Second chances are in order I think.

We visited on Friday night and sat at a table as the bar seating was pretty packed. Crowd was pretty chill - a mixture of people in their 20's having drinks & apps, and then older couples/families enjoying dinner. We were happy to see Smithwicks on the draft menu, and we also got a Downeast cider with a caramel/cinnamon rim. We ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, which were ginormous, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and all around delicious. We all opted with different types of burgers - sliders, fried chicken, and a pub burger. All were served with fries and were perfectly cooked. The coating on my fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. Service was awesome - our glasses were never left empty! Best of all, Dwyers has a free jukebox packed with favorites. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Portsmouth - we'll definitely be trying the deviled eggs, wings, and fried oreos!

It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.

This quaint gastropub doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside, this seems like a place where locals are regulars and tourists are happy to get a table at this "no reservations" joint. It's dark inside (no photos) and a little cramped. The bartenders are serving double duty mixing and pouring drinks while also playing DJ and spinning vinyl records. And it felt like everyone inside was exactly where they wanted to be at the moment...enjoying each other's company and sharing drinks and food. The menu is about the size you would expect from a small kitchen - a fair number of appetizer dishes meant for sharing, and a handful of entrees, ranging from casual to a bit more refined. The grilled cheese and tomato soup ($19) was made with a hearty artisan bread that hit the spot on a chilly evening. Similarly, the coq au vin ($26) was classic comfort food, with perfectly cooked smashed fingerling potatoes surrounded by a rich, decadent reduction sauce smothering meaty mushrooms and soft pearl onions. Note, the coq au vin did take a long time to prepare, so not the dish to order if you're in a hurry. They just don't compare to back home. The clam linguine was seasoned perfectly. It was quite filling. We ended with the Apple Olive Oil cake with maple ice cream. The cake itself was quite dense and dry. The ice cream helped. I would not order this dessert again. Service was quite SLOWWWW, and for no reason as they weren't very busy while we were there. There were long gaps between courses and then once we were finished we kind of just sat there for a while. The food was worth it but something is not running efficiently and could be improved.
