Service was great, and the wings were excellent as always, with a nice range of sauces to choose from depending on heat and flavor. We also ordered the margarita pizza. While the crust was good, the overall balance wasn't quite what I personally look for in a classic margarita. It leaned heavier on the cheese, and I tend to prefer a version where the sauce plays a more prominent role, with lighter amounts of fresh mozzarella and basil added just before serving. That said, this is still a solid spot for grabbing a beer, and the bar food is generally very consistent. I'll definitely be back, especially for the wings. read more

A good friend and I decided to have lunch today at the Moose. Our waitress was very friendly and served us very quickly (admittedly they were not very busy). Our window seat gave us a great view of the lower square in Downtown Dover and we had plenty of tv screens if we wanted to watch! Nice pub atmosphere. Pete's fish tacos looked great and my Caesar salad with Cajun shrimp was nice. My one complaint about the taste of the salad was that it came across as too salty. Our waitress was kind enough to bring me a different dressing which helped tone it down. Kudos for the shrimp not having their tails! All in all a decent meal. Overall, this place was fine. It's your standard taphouse/sports bar vibe. They have over 100 beers on tap, which was awesome. You can build your own flight if you have a tough time choosing. The food was delicious. I had the Nashua Sliders (a NH take on Nashville hot chicken) and idk what they make their breading out of, but it is light and crispy and delicious. We also had the spinach dip and that could easily be its own meal. The staff was young and relatively inattentive. My friend accidentally spilled her beer and it took us over five minutes to catch anyone's attention to help clean it up, even though it wasn't busy and most of them were gathered at the host stand. read more

The chicken was delicious and the Reuben was too. The waffles were a bit disappointing. I was expecting homemade ones but they seemed like Eggo. This was a Fourth of July visit. Although my wife's experience was great all around my was less then stellar. First tap beer choice was out but not listed. Second choice came almost warm. Appetizer seemed to take quite a long time for how busy it was. My dinner was not prepared as requested and most of the sauce that was supposed to be in the sandwich was actually on the plate. The fries I ordered well cooked and crispy were warm and limp. Although our server did a decent job, my wife(experienced server) felt like she was not having a good day and could have given much better service. We were lucky to get a table here, without too long a wait, during a recent weekend visit, ESPECIALLY in the middle of a busy street festival!! Big, but somehow cozy, we snagged a great window seat and were greeted pretty quickly by a friendly, patient (in spite of being SUPER busy...) server. Plenty of options for just about every preference on the beer list; sticking with the season, I ordered a pumpkin ale that was so-so, but not too bad. Lazy Sunday brought us here. I have been here before but it may have been a different restaurant. Space is nice with huge windows that bring the inside out. Salads were fresh as was the hummus plate. I could've used more veggies and less feta and pepperocinis btw. The prime rib sliders were yummy with a nice horseradish kick. Coke products! Staff was really friendly and attentive. When the pizza came out they had messed up the order making it a half plain and sausage pie which i wasn't upset about. Our server noticed and seemed arguably more dissatisfied than us and offered us a free round of beers on the house. Free? Beer? Free beer? Say less. The wings here also also worth to note, despite being a full wing that you had to break in half (which I didn't know was a thing prior) they offered a Smokey flavor, with just the right about of heat. 8/10 experience all around, another solid night in Dover! read more

We (the family) were in Somersworth and asked for a recommendation for a casual dinner (Thank you Kevin at Cricket Wireless) and he suggested The Thirsty Moose. We checked the Yelp reviews and pics and decided to make the 2.8 mile journey to The Thirsty Moose. When we arrived the place was full and all of the outdoor seating was taken. No problem, we were told it was only a 20-25 min wait. They took my name and phone number, saying they would text when our table was ready. We are ok a still around town while we waited. My phone pinged just 20 mins later and we were seated. Our server, Amy, was personable and efficient and offered some great suggestions since this was our first time there. What we got: Smoked Chicken Wings with a side of jerk sauce. The wings were awesome. Jerk sauce was fantastic with just a touch of heat. A+ would get again and make a meal of this! Garlic Knots: pretty basic garlic knots but super soft dough with good flavor. The marinara sauce was delish. Huge portion. My daughter loves these. Fish Tacos: Daughter says she really like these. Fish was cooked nicely, with a crisp coating but not too breaded. Generous portion with a spicy kick. She described these as "pretty good" Cobb Salad: Outstanding! This is one of my favorites and they did an excellent job with this. Super huge salad with grilled chicken, bacon, avocado etc. Very fresh and I could eat this every day. The blue cheese dressing is obviously house made and it was sooo good. I could drink it. Of noteñ their ranch dressing was also excellent. Huge salad and this could easily be 3 portions. Of note, I loved the bowl so much I want to order some for home. French Onion Soup: I got a cup and the portion was quite small compared to most crocks of french onion soup. The broth was flavorful but had a sweetness to it. The soup was topped with large salad croutons and melted cheese. It was ok, definitely not a stand out. Rockey Burger: hubba really liked it. It was cooked to his asking (med well) and it was not dry. Huge burger that really held together we'll. He got onion rings and he loves them. Overall, the service was great. Not only from our server, Amy, but also the runners who brought out our food with a smile. We did not have to ask for refills on our drinks since Amy was on too of that before we even asked. We will definitely be back when in the area. Definitely get the smoked chicken wings and make a meal of it with a Cobb salad. read more

I as been craving chicken tenders. Found this place on DD or UE. Figured I'd try them. Yum. Glad I tried this place. They were delivered and still hot. There were a bunch. And I was a happy bloke. Probably better if I ate at restaurant. I also got waffle fries. You get a nice sized portion, but they were not exciting and were not crispy. I used the air fryer to finish cooking them. Wouldn't get them again for takeout. Overall good value and good taste. read more

literally still scratching our heads at the whole situation I usually don't write negative reviews, but my experience at The Thirsty Moose Tap House in Portsmouth was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. My girlfriends and I visited on a Saturday night, and while the food was fine, it was nothing special--everything was bland and lacked flavor. We ordered cocktails, and although they were fine, they took an incredibly long time to arrive. Our waitress even suggested we order our second round before we had finished the first, which should've been a red flag. We decided to check out the basement, where the band was great, and the bartender was friendly--no issues there. However, the nightmare started when we went to use the bathroom. As out-of-towners, we weren't informed about the strict bathroom "rules." The attendant forced us to leave our drinks outside, which made us uncomfortable, especially given the risk of something being slipped into our drinks (as any woman from Boston--or anywhere--would be cautious about). We drank our drinks quickly to avoid that risk before heading into the bathroom, which the attendant allowed. Less than three minutes later, she barged into the bathroom, screaming at us, slamming stalls, and aggressively telling my friends and I to leave. We had done nothing wrong, and the lack of signs explaining the rules made the whole experience worse. She then accused us of vaping and doing things in the stall--neither of which we did. I didn't even enter a stall! This behavior was completely uncalled for, and it was shocking that the staff allowed such aggression toward paying customers. We left immediately and were done with the place. I've never had such a negative experience going out, and this was one of the worst dining and bar experiences I've ever had. I would highly recommend avoiding this place, especially given the treatment we received and the lack of clear communication or respect for customers. read more

A little while ago, a friend and myself went down to eat at this location and we had one of my worst eating experiences of all time. We both ordered ice tea - and what they brought us had this unpleasant, chemically flavor while also being rather weak. I was personally concerned that whatever container the tea was being kept it had not been properly rinsed after its last wash, and we sent the teas back. My friend had ordered one plate, and I had ordered a cheeseburger. Firstly, the delay from when my friend's plate came out and my own arriving was so great, my friend was half finished their food. They were unimpressed with the quality. When my cheeseburger came out... it was so overcooked that there was a crunch to the blackened, charred exterior of the hamburger. (I had ordered my burger medium-well.) I tried a second bite because it was already so long from this first hamburger coming out that I was concerned how long a second would take... but I simply couldn't stomach it. It was THAT bad. Regretfully, I had to catch the server's attention and asked for my burger to be remade, explaining the issues. The second burger was flavorless and dry, though at least it didn't feel like biting into a chunk of charcoal. Also, the noise level inside was quite excessive. I understand they're a sports bar, but the televisions were cranked up so loud in volume that the other customers were yelling to hear one another. A room full of excitable people is one matter, but a crowded space full of people yelling is something out of Dante's Inferno. Needless to say, I will never be frequenting this place again, which is a shame because I've had good experiences with other locations of The Thirsty Moose. read more

The bartender was incredibly rude. I was paying the bill and he started berating me in front of other customers. He apparently thought the tip i was leaving was not enough. As a regular customer i was taken back by the fact i was yelled at, and singled out because the bartender felt entitled to more money. I usually tip 25% but the attitude towards me definitely changed that percentage. It was not a pleasant experience and the bartender should probably not be in a customer facing environment, if this is how he thinks customers should be treated. read more

My friend and I stopped in for lunch on our way home from a weekend in Maine. We split the Buffalo Chicken Dip and the Burganzola. Both dishes were AMAZING! Terrific (multi page) beer selection, so if you want pub grub and beer while you watch a game, this is a good choice. We were there to talk and as it was Trivia Night (Tuesday), it was packed and pretty loud! I enjoyed my Burganzola. My dining companion's salad was served upside down, which was puzzling, but fine, once she discovered all the goodies on the bottom of the bowl. The chicken wings were not what we had expected. They were served whole, not disjointed, and although they were cooked, they were not fall-off-the-bone tender, which we did mention to our waitress. I'll come back for beer and burger. read more

The Moose Mac pizza was barely edible. It was over cooked and barley had any toppings on it. The tenders were okay but seemed sloppily put together (like the pizza). We visited a year ago and it was adequate at best. We wanted to give this place another try but unfortunately it was still the same. For $50, you can get a lot better elsewhere for a sad pizza and wings. We only finished the pizza because of how much it was. read more

This place used to be my jam. Food was awesome, beer was cold. The food has gotten a little lacking, my gluten free bacon pepperoni pizza barely had bacon, and was underdone. It was tepid when I bit into the first slice, and had it sent back for another spin in the pizza oven. All the beers are still excellent, but they've all gone up in price by a couple bucks. Well, that was an experience. I had read the reviews about poor service and decided to hit this place mid day and sit at the bar to avoid any issues with poor service. Now I understand why the service is so poor. The bartender and Alex (I am guessing an off duty staff member who was drinking at the bar) were spending most of their time trash talking the patrons. One couple walked and sat themselves after blowing by the "please wait to be seated" sign and the both joked about how its going to take an hour before anyone notices them. They didn't lift a finger to help them. They also ridiculed another bar patron for being creepy. Had my friends from my hometown up to visit and got denied service because we all had Massachusetts ids. Server decided they were fake without scanning or calling to confirm. We offered to provide second forms of identification, one of my friends even having a passport card, and they still refused. I've never had a problem with this in my life and have been served at every other place on the street. Don't go here if you're not from NH I guess. There's much better places to eat in Dover anyway. read more
