    Side of pickles

I ordered a side of pickles with my meal and when the waitress noticed I ate them all she asked if I wanted more.

This chain is starting to become the Applebee's of the New England region. As in, this place isn't what it once was: a noble and grand casual dining experience which revolutionized American pub eateries the region over. Hyperbole aside, let's just say they went from pretty damn good....to 'meh'. Now, because we were just eating here for lunch after taking stuff to where we shall soon permanently reside, I figured I'd keep things simple with a regular old fashioned cheeseburger with Vermont cheddar cheese. Well, folks....I got some good news and some bad news. The good news is they nailed the temp and presentation. The bad news is it was under seasoned. Overall, I'd give the burger a 6 out of 10. The fries weren't much better. I mean, I definitely don't remember eating any hollowed-out, overcooked fries the last time I got the fish n' chips here. Those were like a 4, btw. If we're being real though, the food was still honestly the best part of the whole deal. The service, on the other hand, was dismal. We saw the guy like 3 times total. That is, until it was time to pick up the check, of course. I considered ordering another wine, but I was already finished eating by the time the waiter bothered to check on us. Ridiculous! And just another caveat: the entrance to getting into the parking lot is almost as bizarre as their front entrance to the restaurant itself. You can only get there from behind the building (don't ask). As for the front entrance, well....it's a fricking stairway. Going down. Like....into a basement type down. Who designed this monstrosity of an entrance?! People could hurt themselves. So, that's it. Average lunch with below average service. And ya know where that leaves us? 3 gorgeously under seasoned burgers with Vermont cheddar out of 5.

Listen, let's be clear, this is a 99 Restaurant. We're not giving it Michelin stars but I have to say, this 99 surprised us. First off, the place is surprisingly gigantic. The bare is equally huge and, I must say, a little disconcerting as it wanders through the room making conversation with anyone but those you are seated with difficult. Beer was incredibly cold (great start), good selection and great pub-styled food. Its a good, solid 3 star place, I added a star for the staff who were incredibly attentive and fun to be with. When you're tired of your gourmet fine dining super expensive restaurants, give the 99 in Nashua a try. You'll leave full and be glad you stopped by.

    Baked Haddock

Went on a Thursday during lunch, and the restaurant wasn't very busy. We had a very friendly server, and quick service. My husband had country friend chicken and enjoyed it. I had the baked haddock and found it pretty flavorless. But the mashed potatoes and corn sides were good.

I'm sorry, but this is the saddest Reuben I have ever seen. The bread is dry (possibly stale), and the Reuben is made out of pastrami, not corned beef - but that isn't necessarily the bad part. I didn't see the sandwich being prepared, but I bet I can tell you their process: toast some bread, no butter, just dry. Now take some pastrami out of the cooler and put it on the bread. Now run that through a toaster oven/salamander oven to heat it (this dries the meat and curls it up), then add some sauerkraut (which had zero flavor) and top it with some form of Thousand Island dressing (again, no flavor). Now, toss that top piece of bread on the sandwich, put it on a plate, and send it out to the customer. If you are expecting a NY Deli-style Reuben sandwich, you are in for a letdown. The Ruben should be served with bread that has been liberally buttered and then cooked in a frying pan (preferably cast iron), which gives the bread a nice crunch. That hot, crunchy bread is now a delicious outer layer to the juicy, tasty corned beef with tangy sauerkraut and fresh Russian or Thousand Island dressing. That's not what you'll get at this place - so move on to something else on the menu. And, almost forgot: no cheese! A Reuben should have Swiss cheese. If you are going to deviate so much from what a Reuben should be, don't call it "Ped's Reuben," call it "Ped's Dry Meat Sandwich on Dry Toasted Bread" - because it ain't a Reuben. Hey Peddler's: you're better than this - try harder, because your Reuben kinda sucks. My wife always gets the fish and chips. She is particular when we go out to eat, but she always likes your fish and chips. So overall: I like this place... but the Reuben... don't order it if you really know what a Reuben can/should be - you will be disappointed. It's a throwback, but the best Reuben sandwich I've had outside of NYC was back in the 1990's at a place called the Dili Dali Deli on Rt 38 in Tewksbury, MA (just about in Lowell). That place was great! Wherever those people who ran that place are today, you should know that I judge all Reubens based on your version of this classic sandwich. So far, no one has come close to the quality you prepared at that little deli, which typically had a counter 3-4 people deep at lunchtime - and you cranked out SO MUCH DELICIOUS FOOD, all with smiles on your faces! You guys were the best!

Definitely a surprise to the regular clientele. Look for the roadside sign into their large parking lot. The building is set way back. Signs every where instruct patrons. A large over head sign lets you know to "order here." No waitress service. Belly up to the bar and place food and drink orders with the bartender. A sign at the bar instructs "order, pay, move outta the way!" I just love this. Signs on the tables instruct "Do not drag tables". however, you can pick them up and move them. Just don't drag them. For our crowd, we did have to move a couple tables and chairs. There is a jukebox on one wall and I must say the clientele have excellent musical taste. This is absolutely my kind of bar. We had some fun conversations with locals. The bartender was friendly and efficient. All together an enjoyable visit. Besides soft drinks, bottled beers and a full bar, the food menu is pretty extensive. Apps, sandwiches, salad, entrees. With live music, pool table and darts this is a good neighborhood bar.

Walking in 7 minutes after opening, this place was already packed. Full of Patriots fans hooping and hollering to the end of the fourth quarter. Every appeared in a merry mood, and everyone knew each other it seems. Service here was great. Our waitress whipped around the room with finesse and speed, working the bar and tables all by herself. She was to the point but pleasant. The beers are ok, but they aren't anything spectacular. An average selection of nearby beers of all varieties. Going to other breweries in New Hampshire, I know that this state can produce good beers. Perhaps they just had a mediocre selection the week I was there. We ordered a medley of items and most of it was hit and miss. In the sampler, the pork cracklings were decent, although dinner pieces were hard to chew since they turned into a dense fried bit. The fries were ok, but standard. The tator tot was actual pretty good, but there's this sweetness and texture that makes me think of pumpkin? That could be upsetting to some. The chicken tenders are ok, but the breading isn't seasoned or exciting in texture. It felt like how I would fry chicken at home with only one coat of breading. The pickle chips were good, even though they were not spicy at all. If they called these paprika coated chips, then I would agree. But texture wise, they were actually crisp and not super watery. The pulled pork tacos are ok, but they rely more on sweet barbeque sauce more than anything else. The tortillas are subpar in flavor, but sturdy enough to hold everything together. The veggies slaw did add some nice acidity though. The wedge salad here is terrible. I should have looked up what others posted before I ordered it. It was a literal wedge of plain iceberg, with all the other ingredients and fixings dumped in the middle. The stuff in the middle was ok, but nothing felt harmonious. Just a bunch of salad ingredients added to a giant paper tray. It felt like a waste of 9 dollars for what was lazy preparation.
