Second time in two weeks and perfect service and food burgers our amazing wanted mine mud well and was perfect

Last night my two daughters, husband and I went to the 99 Restaurant in Dover NH. My girls & I had Steak tips with Chicken tenders. All three of us ordered the steak tips cooked differently. My husband had the steak tips with peppers & onions and mashed potatoes. When we received our meal all of our steak tips were cooked the same Overdone. Decent food. Decent prices. I enjoy lunch or dinner in the bar. Steak tips, Caesar salad and cold beer with good service. I never go away hungry and have never been disappointed with the quality or service. read more

Stopped for a quick bite after the movies. Selected from the $9.99 menu, pork and seafood. Overcooked pork and a baked potato - sad looking and mediocre. Seafood was no better. Drinks were fine - the service excellent. Quality just wasn't there, regardless of what you select - it should be. Live and learn. read more

America is littered with sad attempts like this. The only thing i gave them credit on was having a mix of ingridients in their house salad and that the bar was big with comfortable looking chairs. Somehow they're apble to put a party of nine in a booth, a shared booth that is. Everyones food looked like premade pedestrian trash. My salmon was as simple as it gets, the rice was cold, and the broccoli was something a child with basic instructions could have out performed. The rest of the food looked blah...even the pictures from the menu were unappetizing. How does that even happen?!?! Applebees is across the street. I'm not a fan of them, but at least they've made a name sake at providing sub-par food and have made it farther than the East Coast. Skip this place by any means necessary. Maybe eat your belt or shoe laces. read more

If you are here to get drunk on a budget, this place is not for you. The menu options do seem inviting and so far, most of the dishes are tasty but beware of the vegetables! The asparagus can be very disappointing. On a week day, the bar is mostly occupied with old people (mid 40s and older). If you are into cougars, you might get lucky here. If not, it is an ok place to get a bite to eat, then leave. Before I go, I should mention that the salads are great! Coming from a man that says a lot. read more

i was hoping to leave a better review for this establishment, like I always do. but my honest reaction: mehhhhhhhhh. bartenders: chatty amongst themselves, gossiping about management (the whole time) almost like fake, computerized nice, not genuinely open for conversation. just got me what i needed and continued talking to one another. food: it was okay. in my opinion i had a better meal the night before at Applebee's across the street. I can not say enough how PHENOMENAL the 99 is. It truly is a great deal and am incredible meal. I have been going to the 9's my whole life and I love it. To speak to this particular restaurant it was charming. I got the seafood chowder and the three fish lunch and it was incredible. For a once since my wife left me I felt alive. I came here a few times while staying at the Hampton Inn across the street. The food is reasonably priced and the scene is similar to TGIFridays or Chili's. The staff was always really friendly and they have good happy hour deals on drinks. Before you order appetizers, know that they give you free popcorn. :) There is also cheese and crackers available that are not on the menu (if you want a cheap snack). I got the salmon on the first visit and fish & chips on the second visit. The salmon was well seasoned and not buttery or greasy. The fish and chips were also very good; the fish was not too greasy and the fries were delicious. If you're looking for something fancy, this might not be the place for you. But it is perfect for a friendly, quick, and chill meal. read more

I had one bad experience here about 2 years ago but ever since this place has been consistently good. That incident involved being seated and no one coming over for aprox 15 min, I got up and left and then contacted management with my issue. I recieved a letter from a Bigwig with a gift certificate! Nice touch and unexpected. Lets face it this place isn't fancy and a lot of the options are standard pub grub but good pub grub. Last meal I had here was balsamic chicken breasts with baked pot. and was very good. They have those really cold, frosty mugs for beer that I love. read more

What can I say. It's a chain restaurant. The food is decent, really well fried fish. The menus are huge. The atmosphere is nice enough. The service is meh... never got a refill on my drink and felt that we were kind of neglected one the did came out. Was it the best experience? No. Will it swear me off 99s forever? Had lobster roll and scallops a few weeks ago that were WONDERFUL. Went back last night for prime rib and I have never had anything served to me before that was so horrible. The meat looked prepackaged and tasted terrible. I was nauseous with the one and only bite. My sister's was the same. We sent them back and were given a free dessert. The squash tasted off too. The dinner salad had old lettuce that had been frozen. One of the tomatoes even had a bad spot. The server was good and that is all I can say nice about this visit. Went back last night and had seafood. Wonderful. This time the squash even tasted right. Service was awesome. I will probably never eat beef there again but will go back for seafood. read more

I just moved here from CA and I'm trying to figure out why the "best" places are absolutely the worst of all. I can still smell the "never changed" grease on my fingers from ordering the supposedly fresh breaded chicken strips. From poor, slow service to frozen food that claims to be fresh, this place deserves nothing more than negative stars. Whatever the founding Fathers of this lame establishment had in mind for starting a business should be considered a criminal offense. Absolutely gross and disgusting to claim that something is fresh when it's clearly frozen. Obviously this is just a local pub for drinks only. read more

Go for lunch and sit at the bar the food is good but AnnMarie is the best. She makes the bar if she isn't there come back another time.

My wife and I usually sit at the bar. The bartenders are really good in spliting up the time between talking to customers and serving. Good food, good atmosphere! Try the Baked stuffed clams. pretty good! read more

I am up here traveling for work and have never been to a 99. The place is super convenient to where I am staying but when I saw the 3 star rating I almost passed. Well, I am glad I came and I am giving 5 stars not necessarily because it is a 5 star restaurant, but because the people that work here are so attentive, friendly, and professional. The food is on par with a place like Applebee's with fewer healthy options. I definitely recommend and hope that other fans chime in to bump the star rating close to a 4 where it belongs! read more

Ok, so not the best experience. This was today (9-7-19) and I don't know what the hell was wrong. They must have been short staffed or had a new cook. My husband ordered the prime rib and it looked like a thick cut of overcooked ham. It was mostly grey and very leathery even though he ordered it rare. That being said, our waitress was really trying to accommodate even though she seemed swamped. We asked to see the manager and he was super apologetic and comped my husband a new meal and our whole party got free desserts...we even got to keep the crappy prime rib for our dog haha! They were amazingly nice and super upset about us not having a good experience. This is why they still get a 5 star, as even though we had an awful time this time, they tried to make it right. The staff here is great, the food this time was not so great. Most of the time though, the food is on the ball. Everyone has an off day, at least they tried. read more

Have eaten here several times in the past few months and always had good food and service. Not too hard to score a free appetizer coupon (boneless wings and potato skins, yum!). I have had steak, chicken, and seafood and it is always cooked right and served timely. My favorites include the Chicken Macadamia and the meatloaf(though this was recently replaced on the $9.99 menu by chopped sirloin, OK but not as good as the meatloaf). Service has always been good even when very busy. The one place where 99 falls down is vegetables. Tried the broccoli and the squash. Broccoli was obviously frozen and bland. Squash was a funny brownish color and just did not taste like good squash should taste. But don't that dissuade you. Just get cole slaw! read more

Went here on a Friday night with my hubby and we were seated right away. Well we did get there early about 4:30. Service was excellent. Food was hot and very large portions. I had chicken with broccoli and mac and cheese. My husband had steak tips and chicken fingers. He thought it was good but he says he probably wouldn't get it again, he was still hungry (unusual for a 99 restaurant). Menu has many choices so everyone can get what they want. Usually have specials, soup of the day, and drink specials. If you get there later and you don't want to wait, you can usually sit at the bar and order from the regular menu. Service is just as good. The service was fine and the food was just okay. Too many ingredients in everything. I have never been to a 99 before and most like won't again. I wanted something simple and well it isn't easy on their menu. It makes me think the cooks are cooks not chefs as everything is covered in some sauce or glaze. Atmosphere is nothing to remember. Pleasantly surprised especially considering prior reviews and first appearance. Our waiter Tyler was very attentive and friendly. We were a party of 5 - burgers and wings were a hit and my fish tacos were actually quite good! Great place for families with kids too- nice kids menu and kids eat free if the Sox win the day prior. We are diehard Yankees fans but for once, we're glad the Sox won since our kids ate for free! read more

Food has always been good. Servers seem a bit overwhelmed at times but never a problem here. Portions can be a bit small but tasty.

The fried mozzarella moons are great, not too filling though. Apple BBQ chicken sandwich is one of their best sandwiches, highly recommend that rig. read more

I went to this reataurant on my birthday, Oct.4, looking forward to the chicken marsala or another one of their delicious chicken plates, only to find out that they made a major menu change, and there were no good chicken plates offered any longer. I then ordered their sirloin tips and chicken fingers, only to find the fingers over cooked and dry. I guess we won't be frequenting this restaurant any longer. read more

I was pretty high on the 9's as I was a big fan of their Golden Wings and French Onion soup but lately their service, portion size and friendly atmosphere has been in decline. For some reason they ditched their happy hour. Then the food portions have become less and less. Recently my brother was visiting from out of state and so we stopped by to get a few drinks and enjoy some appetizers but ended up having a horrible time. We sat at the bar and it started off with us having to get the bartenders attention. It was about 2pm and the place was almost empty. What drove it home was after placing our order and having to ask for popcorn a group of guys showed up and she was all smiles, cheerful with them and brought them not only popcorn but also cheese and crackers unasked? When we called her over a second time to ask for food she seemed bothered and put out. Sort of killed it for me over all. Not sure I'd be returning unless my desire for French Onion soup gets the best of me. read more

Maybe the food here is okay, wouldn't know since I never sat down. The customer service at this location is terrible. I've been to other 99 locations and have been very happy with everything overall. I am a regular here at the Bar and lately the,service has gone down hill fast. I use to sit down and be greated instantly. These days you,can sit down and if the bartender is too busy in casual conversation with someone they just ignore you. They sometimes ask if you would like popcorn and sometimes you have to ask. They use to ask every tike you sat down. These days if they take your empty bowl of popcorn they won't return with a full one. They use to ask if you wanted more. Don't get me wrong not all the bartenders are like this but about half are. Take today for exhample....it took about 5 minutes after I sat down to be asked what I would like to drink. I was givin a bowl of popcorn and when the second bartender took the empty bowl I got none brought back. The bartender who took my drink order didn't even listen. I told her Sam Octoberfest tall in a Mug......she brought it in a glass.....I told her ....I asked for a mug. She was like oh yea thats right. This woman should not be tending bar. If you come in to watch any Boston sports games ......don't expect to get game audio. They won't play it even though they advertise for you to come in and watch a game. So in short you have a 50/50 chance to get good or bad service when you come into the Dover NH 99. As soon as i find a better place that plays game audio for,Bruins games.... they wont see my money anymore. read more

Went for dinner with 2 adults and 2 small grandchildren. Waited 25 minutes for a table, waited 15 minutes for waitress to take drink order. I ordered ice tea and asked her to bring sugar. She delivered the drinks, and no sugar. I reminded her again. Another wait.... finally got sugar and she took order. Food was slow, another 20 minutes, and kids were getting antsy. Food was thrown on the table and waitress practically ran away as we were trying to tell her there were no utensils or napkins on the table. Waited again. Finally asked for utensils and napkins and there was another wait, way too long for such a simple and noticeable request! Waitress brought utensils and TWO napkins and ran. 4 year old wanted a spoon. Waitress finally came back and we told her we wanted a spoon and more napkins, more than just TWO for the whole table. She disappeared again. I asked the girl at the front desk for a manager. He came over and I told him what had happened, and he said I shouldn't be "attacking" his employee!! Needless to say, this place SUCKS and I will never set foot in there again. This manager was out of line and doesn't care about customers! For goodness sake, at least provide napkins and utensils to eat the food! Horrid experience. NO TIP for this one!! read more

Food was fine, but management dropped the ball with screaming toddlers/babies! The one behind us was crying from the time we were seated. Fortunately, they left after about 10 minutes. The absolute worst was a toddler screeching at the top of their lungs for the entire time. We could not finish our half eaten meal and had it packed up to go. The mother was drinking beer with a friend and did little to even try to stop the racket. The people seated next to them just got up and left without ordering. I asked if anything can be done to quell the screaming level so we could have some semblance of a nice meal, but was told there was nothing they could do. Management dropped the ball on this one. They should have asked this person to take the child (around 2 years old) outside to calm down or comp their meal and get them the heck out of there so as not to ruin everyone else's meal. This was not a little crying or whimpering or for a short time. This was an obviously cranky/tired/out of control kid that the mother felt no remorse in letting scream at the top of their lungs while she downed her alcohol! It went on for at least 25 minutes straight (no breaks) until we could not take it and had to leave. That was an expensive meal to not enjoy. Very disappointed in the way this situation was NOT handled. I feel like I wasted our money because the management would not intervene. Service and food were ok, but could not eat it in that atmosphere. read more

In town for the week and was trying to find a decent restaurant (not to many around) well this place is pretty good! Got the chicken parm with pasta. Sauce was tasty and chicken was a good size. I give one star because there's one waitress there with a mind of customer service. Otherwise the place has diminished its "family" atmosphere. We've had 3 incidents with them, first two involving raw burger meat for our children, that came back with the bite mark still in it and the plate hot, meaning they microwaved it and offered no apologies. This last encounter was the tip of the ice burg and we will never step foot there again. My husband and I took our two daughters out for lunch, one being 8 and the other being 2. We were the only ones in the restaurant aside from a couple at the bar with their backs to us. My toddler got hot soup on her shirt so we quickly took it off to clean her up, the waitress was great about it, she was in the corner hidden by our older daughter, as soon as our meals came the manager also came to our table and was not friendly about it at all, he said it was grossly inappropriate for our daughter not to have a shirt on (2 mins tops) and that she had to put it back on. Okay, we tried to explain about the soup but he wasn't listening, so we put her shirt on backwards so it wouldn't bug her as much. His tone and posture was very combative and we felt uncomfortable, we wanted to leave. When we told the waitress we wanted the check that we were going to leave he came back over got in my husband's face asking for his full name and address because he was "throwing away" $70 worth of food. We were going to pay for it, we just wanted to leave, the experience was ruined. We refused the information, how weird to ask in such a hostile tone. The waitress bagged up the food and we said we are paying for it because we weren't there for a free meal and the poor girl just said he already did. Meaning the manager. He made us feel that by us wanting to leave he was coming after us for something, that's no way to run a family oriented business. We did contact the corporation and their solution was to give us a ton of certificates, we didn't want them. I hope they've gotten better, but we will not go again. read more

Ate here tonight. Sam the girl that greeted us at the door was also our waitress. She seemed a bit befuddled when I asked for a table instead of a booth. She struggled at the door to find us a table. She did seat us at a booth./table. She brought a dish of popcorn to the table while we looked at the menu. Sam never mentioned to us of any specials they were having. I heard another waitress informing her guests of what the soups were and the specials. I had only eaten at a 99's once before about 10 years ago so I wasn't familiar with the menu so it took awhile to decide what to eat. We started with the Three Cheese Nacho's with chili. That was a very large plate and she brought extra sour cream which was a welcomed treat. It was hot and very tasty. For my main meal I had the Bruschetta Chicken which was lemon marinated grilled chicken topped with seasoned tomatoes, fresh basil , fresh mozzarella and with a balsamic glaze and grilled asparagus (very thin asparagus). This was served over rice. It was very good and has a nice flavor. Sam did check on us at least two times to see if everything was alright. When we were finished it was awhile before we got our check. We got there early around 5 pm so it was getting busy when we were ready to leave. She was waiting on other tables.I liked the food very much. I have had been service in other establishments..but maybe Sam was having an off night. read more
