This place is a typical American restaurant with large offerings. We ordered the Spinach Dip, Balsamic Chicken & Simply seasoned Salmon. Ambiance is dark with a large bar in the center. There was a bit of a wait on a Saturday evening. Got there at 6pm but was able to sit at the bar since it's first come first served. Bartender was nice and friendly. We didn't order any drink since we hardly drink. Was given butter popcorn at the bar. It's butter flavored but a tad salty. The spinach dip as appetizer came piping hot with nice melted cheese but we couldn't taste any artichoke at all. It was a bit bland so we had to put tons of salt on chips and dip. It made it taste better. The Balsamic Chicken was good with tender chicken and sweet and sour vibe with balsamic. Reminded us of Hawaiian chicken from a buffet back in the day. The salmon was lightly seasoned but lacking some salt. It was however nicely cooked. It was expensive for a small 2x4 inch piece of meat. For the sides we had broccoli, rice pilaf, fries and up charged of $2.99 for asparagus. They were all fine but the fries were soggy and not salted. It has potential if they had fried it again the 2nd time. I bet the outer will get crunchier with tender middle and toss in salt would have made it much more appetizing. Only ate a few pieces of the fries. Asparagus was a little over cooked and so thin. I would have expected more for the up-charge. Overall was a decent meal. Will we go back again? As a last resort maybe but most likely not since there are other better restaurants in the area for less or the same price. read more

I had not been to a 99 Restaurant in a long time but it was great! We went to the Biddeford location. We had a party of 4. Our server ended up being a family friend which was so nice. He was super attentive and knowledgable about the menu. We were sat right away. We brought our gram who needs handicap accessibility and the entrance and bathrooms met her needs. The food was all delicious and came out very quickly after ordering. The prices are also very good for the portion sizes. There is also a ton of seating - tables, booths, bar seating. I recently tried the Seafood stuffy with a cup of chowder special for a late lunch. It was one of the worst things I have ever eaten! It w2as all stuffing, no visible scallops or shrimp. The taste was very sour! I thought it was spoiled. I was told it was not a popular item when it was on the menu before. I know why! Terrible. Please do not waste your money. We are from Maine. At the Biddeford Maine 99 we had the tiniest $30 lobster rool, Advertised in big letters as COLOSSAL in the state. One of our worst dining experiences in many years. We are summer residents and have always enjoyed eating here. We had one prior bad experience with service, but not food-- a server who was argumentative and hyper, almost bouncing off the walls. We've always avoided seating in her section, that's how bad it was! Once again we found ourselves with her and decided to try again. Maybe her bad day was just a one off. Nope, same behavior. She had us repeat our orders several times and seemed confused. She plunked down a salad in front of me, but I hadn't ordered salad. Seafood trio was so overcooked it appeared dry and black. When mentioned to this server, she went into a jumbled explanation of how the dish sat on the conveyor belt too long. Broccoli cheese soup, which I always order, looked unlike I'd never seen it and had Mexican seasoning. Dessert, described as served warm, was stone cold. To the server's credit, the dessert was taken off the bill. I'm willing to give it one more chance, to see if the food prep is back to normal. Stopped in on a Sunday for a burger and a beer. Beer was ice cold ( best part of the meal) ordered the All Star burger with fries and slaw. The menu says the burger comes with bacon, cheese,sautéed onions,LTP and special sauce. Ordered medium rare, it came out well done, no bacon, no cheese and no sautéed onions. First time in any 99 came about only because we needed a place to eat pronto and it was just across the parking lot. Success: Welcomed and seated in a minute, served well, and satisfied with meals. So why just 3 stars? Just enough slips and downsides, like delivering the wrong meal to one diner, letting crackers do the job of bread (or a roll) as a soup side, playing not-great rock-n-roll a little too loud, and not revealing beer prices on the list. On the up side, every meal was tasty and satisfying, portions were fair, our waitress cared, and cleanliness was not an issue. This seems like a reliable, family-friendly, more-than-a-sports-bar eatery with only slightly high prices. Having a standby like this nearby, rather than some similar average options, could prove useful again. read more

After reaching out to them by phone (no answer) email (no response) fb page (no response) fb messenger...response on Tuesday asked if i had tried calling....Thursday I responded that obviously nobody from 99 give a shyt, Friday someone asked me (fb messenger) if id accept a call from management which I agreed to. After apologizing for the lousy dinner they offered to give me a egift card for the amount we paid so we could give them another chance. I was told that it would be emailed within 24-48 hours. Its now Monday evening (730pm) and ive had no email from them, definitely no egift card. It really feels like 99 doesn't care about there customers. They will basically say whatever to get you off their backs and then they drop the ball again. This is my mil's favorite restaurant when they come to visit (4-5x yr) and thats a party of 5 with a bill that runs between $85-110 if we don't have dessert and we tip really well (typically 1/3 bill) Guess we will take our business someplace that actually cares, handles their issues immediately and doesn't ignore the issues. Everyone has a bad day occasionally, i wasn't expecting perfection. I expected my $24 steak tips to be as i ordered (medium rare) and when they were well done i expected a response within 24 hours and when it took a week i should've just washed my hands of it and found someplace else that deals with steak. Live and learn. If you want your meal how you enjoy it eat in, cause at 99 its outta sight outta mind. They definitely don't care about the customer or the food they put out Updated on father's day. Finally received the egift card to try again. This time we went in and again i ordered the king size steak tips med rare and AGAIN got over cooked tips. I asked for some steak sauce (to add moisture) and the waiter apologized saying they were having issues with their delivery and only had a spicy sauce for chicken. In the end we told the waiter to take all $50 off the egift card and after the $26 bill he got the rest as his tip. Its not the waiters fault the cook can't get meat temps and can't cook a medium rare piece of meat. Don't waste your time or money if you're wanting a good steak, this restaurant can't produce one. We have been to this 99 numerous times with mixed experiences from the service, and tonight was no different. We decided to do take out at 99 and we ordered two wings and skins and a wedge salad with a side of tips. The wings and skins are always amazing and well packed, whether you get them at the restaurant or for take out. My husband enjoys getting a mix of the buffalo and the honey bbq! However, my mom's wedge salad left much to be desired. It literally was a small piece of iceburg lettuce with very little topings that included just tomatoes and bacon bits. They didn't even put blue cheese crumbles which is a staple to a wedge salad. The service was horrible when we went to get our order. The host cashed us out and was a pleasant man, however, our interactions with the other staff was less than stellar. The woman who brought us our food was rude and when we asked if they had included extra blue cheese dressing, which we asked for, she just rolled her eyes and responded with a simple "yup." As we were putting our wallets away, she just stood there looking as if we were an inconvenience. Again, not all experiences are like this with the staff, as there are a couple of great staff members. However, it seems to happen more and more frequently. This 99 has an opportunity to have a great clientele, but they need to take the time to train their staff in customer service. read more

I really feel bad about about writing this review. I met the founder, Charlie Doe years ago. Great guy. The family had since sold. We went to the 99 in Biddeford earlier this week. The staff tried their hardest but, through no fault of theirs, they just do not have enough help. Our dinner was a complete disaster. With the exception of Pearl in Kennebunk, it was the worst dinner I have ever had. The apps were wrong and cold. My dinner was cold and burnt. The AC was blasting so cold I think I became hypothermic. They should just close for the summer. Maybe when the governments bonus pay to not work ends this fall they can reopen and give it another shot. Until then you would be better off eating TV dinners at home. It is a disaster. read more

I can't figure out who goes to a 99 or why they go. We got a gift card and thought we'd check it out but while the food was reasonable, it's a depressing place. There weren't many cars outside, just a guy lurking in the shadows and repeatedly spitting on the ground. We went in and the inside is as depressing as the outside. The furniture is due for replacement. The lighting manages to be dingy without being subdued in a way that would provide ambiance. A server pushed past us like we were in the way. At our table, there was a big dark shadow where my food went, how is that even possible when there was a light hanging over our booth? I even took a picture of the ridiculous shadow in front of me before the food came and not only can you see the shadow, you can see the reflection of the light that was hanging directly over the table. We got the big confusing menus that we've come to expect from chain restaurants, picked things, ordered, and waited. And waited. When the food showed up, I wasn't disappointed. My steak wasn't chewy and the fries weren't bad, but really, who goes to a place like this? Based on a quick look around, I'd say the answer is "almost nobody." I understand wanting to eat someplace cheap and casual but for where we were, we would have done better at Mulligan's, Run of the Mill, or at any of the locally owned ethnic restaurants. We were sat very quickly and greeted with the most happy and pleasant server, she was more then attentive and she even recommended drinks for my boyfriend that he never would have tried and he loved them! She was outstanding and treated us like family, I truly admire that about this server, she laughed/ cracked jokes and talked to us more then just her customers. If I'm correct her name was Holly. We stopped by the 99 in Biddeford for a late Sunday afternoon lunch. The food was good; my husband had the prime rib, and I had a salad with chicken tenders. We enjoyed both meals. I had the house Margarita, which was delicious. Service was great. There was not a lot of guests, because of this terrible health scare. I know that in this time of Coronavirus, we will soon need to practice self isolation...we are only in the Portland area to pick up a loved one and get her back to Canada. After a great meal, we went back to our hotel. The next day, I realized I must have left my credit card at the restaurant. These people always serve the most stale ass popcorn you can find at any restaurant. You better hope the popcorn you get ain't stale because it is more than 50% of the time. Our first experience with this place in Biddeford ME during early evening (5:30 to about 6:30pm)The place went from quiet to quite busy, Our waitress was happy-slappy friendly, but seemed impatient. For instance, she asked that I cut my steak to make sure it was cooked properly, but when I cut it she said 'It's fine"and just walked off. The steak was overcooked and dry. The baked potato was tiny and the broccoli consisted of about five scrawny sad little pieces. My wife liked her Caesar Salad, 'very fresh,' but said the waitress was obnoxious.
