Went tonight for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. The chips and salsa they start you off with were excellent - seemed to be a fresh salsa. We also got a small cheese dip and guacamole to go along with it. For dinner I had the Tequi-changa and my husband had the chicken spinach burrito. Both were excellent and very large portions. Sadly we're doing a dry January so we weren't able to try the Margs but certainly plan to be back soon to try them out. read more

Place is legit. I live in Texas, this place would easily hold its own there. Staff were super cool too.

We got takeout from here today, got the taco salad, chips and salsa, and the chicken steak bowls. The service was friendly, speedy, and food was great! Very well priced, great portions, and very fresh! Will definitely be going back to dine in. read more

This place was recommended by 3 people. It was really good. We had the seafood bowl with shrimp, chicken and steak with peppers cilantro spices, rice beans mixed in for $20. We split it and it was big. Staff was great and they cooked my food in lard by request. This will be a staple place. read more

Just had my first lunch at El Tequila and I am very impressed with the quality of the food. Loved my Special Burrito - the chicken was delicious, sauce had lots of good kick to it. Nice little salad. Even better was the price -- very reasonable. My friend had beef fajitas which she loved. Very nice dining room with Mexican furniture and motif. Before going I checked a number of different ratings sites and all were very good. Try it, you'll like it!!! read more

Went with a group of adults & kids on a Tuesday night and were seated promptly. I had the Soft steak tacos which was perfect for me, however my sister ordered a combo of 3 different items & she mentioned that her food wasn't as hot as it should be & said it wasn't the best. My brother had a combo plate of different items and had no complaints with his. My 2 young kids loved the fact they had chicken tenders & fries. I quite enjoyed this restaurant, however last week I finish up my meal and paid my bill after a subpar experience. Then left a 20% tip in cash on the table which I alerted our waitress of. Two days later I see I was charged more than authorized. (50% tip) I figured it was a simply mistake however when I called and explained the situation the hostess paused trying to find words and hung up the phone. I have called back 3 times and have yet to reach anyone. I would strongly advise everyone to check your statements if you plan to eat here. The place is huge and the decor is cute and fun! We weren't super impressed with the margaritas but they tasted pretty good, and it was a busy Friday night so they can be forgiven for any flaws. The chips and salsa were standard but it seems like they might make their own chips, and they weren't too salty so I was a fan. Queso sauce hit the spot. My husband loved his El Jefe Burrito and my Enchiladas Verdes were yummy but very salty. My daughter ordered the Mac and Cheese which was clearly just Kraft, and while not necessarily worth the $8.50, she ate half of it which is more than I can say for some meals she chooses. Her virgin Strawberry Daiquiri was a hit, too. I would definitely return. read more

I had the California Burrito, and my wife had a GF Chicken Fajita. We both enjoyed our meals. Very generous portions of shrimp and steak in my burrito. Served quickly and piping hot. Had Dos Equis draft, and my wife had a margarita. Both were served by a very friendly and knowledgeable bar tender. She showed us several new tequilas and let me sample one. See photo. One drawback was I ordered wings, but they were more like frozen wing dings. Would recommend using fresh, real chicken wings with Mexican seasoning. All in all, a pleasant experience. It's so hard to find good Mexican in Maine, IMO. This was a disappointment. The house margarita is a cheap mix, not good. I ordered the chicken quesadilla it was very greasy but pretty good. They were very stingy with the sour cream so I ordered a side of guacamole at $6.50 for a small portion. My dinner date got a chicken & steak fajita. She sent it back, it was inedible. They did take it off the bill so that was good. Atmosphere is cheeky & cheesy but fun at the same time. I love the large bar. Service was slow but we were not in a rush so it was no problem. Food is good and drinks are good. Service was sub par. Upon requesting a drink on their menu. We requested it be made a special way. The server walked away and came back moments later with a co worker (female). The coworker was very arrogant about the request and was very unkind and cocky. Chips and Salsa were pretty good. Could have been homemade chips. Salsa most likely made in house. Drinks were ok. Blueberry margarita had muddled blueberries and the house margarita tasted like it was a cheap mix. My meal came out first. After a half an hour we asked for my wife's meal. They thought we wanted the check. We should have taken it. By the time we got the second meal it was not really worth the wait. read more

Placed two chicken fajita meals at 6:38 with a pick up of 6:58-7:08 I pulled in at 7 not mad if I'd have to wait. It wasn't until 7:40 I received my order. When I arrived home the order was incorrect one chicken and one steak fajita meal. The rice and beans were cold as if they were refrigerated, and only received 2-3 TABLESPOONS OF EACH. The bag of tortilla chips were all stale! 'd rather drive 15 minutes to Margaritas in Portland for some fresh warm rice and beans and a meal worth $20. First and last time here. read more

This was second visit to this restaurant. On my first visit my friend and I enjoyed our meals. On this second visit, myself and my companion were disappointed with our meals. I ordered the veggie chimichanga. I as expecting roasted veggies inside a fried tortilla. The tortilla was nicely roasted and tasted good but the veggies inside were bagged frozen veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and mushrooms). The veggies were flavorless. They had no seasoning so were very bland. It came with rice and was supposed to come with beans but no beans were given. I had to ask for my beans after my meal was delivered. My companion ordered a meal with 2 burritos, one beef and one chicken. The beef burrito was excellent with tender beef and lots of flavor. The chicken was overcooked, dry and stringy in the other burrito so she cut it up and ate some but did not enjoy the chicken burrito. We went because we wanted to support a local business, which we did but this disappointing meal will have us considering other options next time. read more

We were there on Friday 8/23/24. There were 4 of us. We placed a drink order. Then we sat and watched others who were seated at the same time a us receive drinks and then meals. Finally, 25 minutes later, two drinks arrived. We waited. Another 5 minutes and 2 more drinks. I will mention that 3 of the drinks were the same. My drink was hands down the worst I've had anywhere. It tasted like what is left in the glass the morning after a party. Now we place a food order. Again time goes by. Finally the runners come out with 3 meals. They don't say anything about my missing meal. My friends all offered to share their large portions. Finally our waiter comes back, with a menu and asks me what I ordered. At this point, we want to eat and get out of there so I nicely said just give me a plate we will share. He disappeared again. Finally he brought the plate. The food was decent. He brought the check and guess what? My meal was on the tab but one of the others was not. The manager did not come speak to us and no amends were made. Also, the AC did not appear to be functioning.
