Entering the restaurant there was a pleasant greeting, was seated away from everyone else don't know if it was do to my child being present or just the nature of being a minority aside from all of that, salad was fresh and came out fast. Presentation of the main dish was nice but unfortunately it was cold all the way around had to send back it's a bit unfortunate due to this restaurant being in my home town. 5 stars to our fabulous server Jen!!! We were there for lunch on May 21st, it is a good (somewhat) in the middle meeting spot between Boston and Manchester CT. Jen is very nice, and I noticed on her nametag it said that she was a trainer (circuit trainer, maybe?) - I can see why because she has the natural personality for making sure everyone feels welcome and has what they need! I had the Vermont Cheddar Burger, I love Cabot cheese and there was also something on it that was amazing.... I wish I paid more attention but was too busy eating. We sat at the bar last night around 6 PM or 7 PM and that vicinity. We ordered a glass of wine each. I ordered a steak tip salad and a cup of onion soup My Husband ordered ribs and chicken fingers. We sat there enjoying our wine notice that all these people came and got their food. We sat there for an hour. I had to hunt down two people to get it and it was extremely annoying me says I know we did not leave a tip on $121 bill so I guarantee you when you see my review you know who I am. Food: Ordered a Burger and a Country style chicken. Burger was asked to be cooked medium and came well done. The Country style chicken was asked to have no gravy and came drowed in a pool of gravy, almost unedible. The Chicken was poor quality and even the potatoes werent really edible. Service: Service was at best mediocre, all requests made while ordering where ignored and nothing came as asked for even for a simple requests such as no lemon waters. Waitress also tried to charge $7 more on the bill for soda we didnt order and than said its just a habit they do implying they do that to people frequently when they order water. There aren't many options in Auburn whilst you're driving enroute to Boston to see BANE. But 99 Restaurants is one of them. Upon walking in, you are greeted with the chance to win a grill. No mention of the grill, just that's it there, as you walk in, and you can somehow win it. Spoiler we did not win the grill, just stomach aches. We were shown to our table, my friend and I, and I should say our waitress was great. But that's where the greatness ends and the story begins... I don't know, I looked my buddy in the eye, and he looked at me and our faces both said this isn't the place for us, we should leave so I said do you want to go sit at the bar or leave and he said I don't want to be that guy who gets up and leaves so we sat there. Johnny Burgers across from us across from us apparently ordered his burger medium rare but it came well done and I could see from my vantage point that the burger was charred and that he was touch and go about whether he was going to cry. The waitress asked if he wanted another one and he said he couldn't wait another 20 minutes for a burger, mind you he was telling her this through a mouth full of fries. His wife(?) sat across from him nodding her head and telling Burger John he should get a new one but alas that story was not to be told. The waitress came back, took our orders, chicken fingers and fries for me, a chicken finger wrap for said sidekick. We thought we'd be safe, but the question of whether or not chicken fingers were able to be a wrong choice was about to be answered. Meanwhile, Chili Plate Pete, the gentleman to my 3 o'clock got his plate of chili and I think it was chili but perhaps there was something underneath, one could not tell as the entire plate was covered in chili. I'm not sure how much this cost the guy other than a night on the porcelain, but if he enjoyed it, it was a deal to be had. He ate this thing for 45 minutes and made exactly zero progress. When we left, he was still eating it. His family had finished probably 30 minutes prior, and I'm sure were looking forward to windows being up on the drive home, as it was raining. Our food arrived, the chicken fingers were plentiful, the fries as well. No sauces. I saw the wrap across from me and the terror in my comrade's face, but we were starving so we dug in. He said I'm starving what have we done. I had around 9 glasses of water to help with what can only be described as dry chicken. I said to my pal that I believe the chicken fingers were seasoned with bleached flour and they said, should we add pepper, anything, and they said nah, the flour will take this recipe home. My associate, having finished his lettuce and chicken wrap, sampled one chicken finger for purely scientific reasons, and could not understand how I was able to finish the meal. I think the water helped and upon my last bite I said we should have driven to Boston and ate to which my colleague said, we were too hungry, this was a decision out of desperation and we paid the price. Check paid, grill lost, we walked out of the door dazed as a woman in Korn hoodie blew the last of her cigarette into our faces, solidifying an experience that will surely be remembered forever. A few hours later, we made it Boston where my friend informed me that the 99 Restaurants adventure continued and he ran to the bathroom. I at least, made it back to the hotel. Yes this is a chain restaurant but they have doing things right down right! We are always very happy with what we order - we don't have expectations that don't match PUB fare. Some of our go to favorites are the smothered steak tips, all-star burger, fish and chips and our kids love the ranchero kids steak. This past weekend I had their 3-course meal deal with prime rib - the prime rib was cooked perfect to medium rare and was very tender and flavorful - it came with a soup/salad, two sides and a mini dessert. My husband had a burger that was cooked perfectly to medium well without being overdone and had tons of toppings on it. You can't beat their prices and curbside pickup service. read more

My son's $17 buffalo mac and cheese was an embarrassingly small portion. Basically one layer of mac and cheese with chicken on top in a tiny skillet. And to top it off the dining room is freezing. Came here and the person helping us Jen went above and beyond she was so amazing. She refilled the drinks so fast without us asking, constantly checked in on us and was so friendly. For my first impression it was really nice to see that. I really liked the seafood chowder, they had this strawberry refresher drink that was really good but I added an extra lime to it. Well, I have managed to avoid this place since we moved to the area almost 4 years ago. I had to try the 99 just so I can tell people why I don't eat at too many chain restaurants, I guess. The servers and the host are friendly. And it appears that the bar does quite a business with regulars. I would meet someone at the bar for a drink. My husband and I came in for a late dinner and they feature a lobster roll on the summer menu. Let me just say, there's nothing like lobster that is fresh. And then, there is nothing like lobster that is NOT fresh. Really. It's a horrible flavor. And that was my very sad lobster roll. Overcooked and rubbery, but smelled fishy and tasted bitter. Service was great. The mango bubble green tea was amazing! I would go back just for that. Got the mushroom sirloin, asked for it to be cooked medium and it was more like medium rare in the middle. Couldn't eat that part it was so chewy. Unfortunately I had already started eating it by the time I realized this so they couldn't take it back. My kids shared the fish and chips and they liked it. My husband got the sirloin tips and his were also under cooked. Got the hot fudge sundae for dessert and it was served in a martini glass which kept threatening to tip over everytime one of us took a spoon to it so I had to hold the glass the whole time we ate it. I would not ever get steak there again for the undercooked reasons. Flavor of it was also just meh. Good place for drinks appetizers and dessert tho. read more

The service and food is always great, I have been coming here for years.. the only issue I have is that they allow children at the bar. My girlfriend and I had to wait for a seat at the bar for 20 minutes while there were 5 children under the age of 10 at bar seats. They should review and change this practice. read more

Another lunch time visit for us today. Food was OK. I had the lunch size steak tips with french fries. There were only 4 pieces o beef on the plate. Next time I'll just stick with the regular size portion for $3 more. Our server was excellent. She checked with us first before bringing popcorn because we had Baby B with us. She checked on us several times during our visit. The only blemish, She was nice enough to offer to wrap up Mrs B's sandwich that she couldn't finish, but never brought it back to us. My companion and I had eaten in a 99 elsewhere in Mass., so we decided to try this one. Modern interior. We sat at a high top booth. Waitress was very friendly and efficient. My companion ordered one of the lunch specials, a prime rib wrap. She didn't care for it and said it had very little prime rib, I had the smokehouse burger which was very tasty. I had the chicken taco salad with guac and was pleased, the desert with a cookie in patn and ice cream, had delicious ice cream but the cookie was a little thin. There are so many different selections on the menu, it doesn't get old or boring and everything has always been delicious. To start off, they offer free popcorn or pub cheese and crackers for a nominal charge which are addicting so don't fill up on them. They have the usual appetizers which are all very good. For ours meals, we have tried the fish and chips (yum), steak tips, broiled fish, seafood casserole, lobster roll ( yumm-o ), turkey tips, and there burgers which are to die for. If you can handle it, they have mouth-watering desserts which change from time to time. They have chocolate cake, apple crisp, ice cream sundaes --- and, have added sugar free Blueberry Pie which is my absolute favorite dessert in the world. It is like You died and went to heaven, I know I'm Making fun but it really Is very good. Blueberry Pie is my very favorite dessert, you would never know it is sugar free, it tastes better than regular blueberry pie. Bet I got your mouthwatering now, huh? Mine came hot ,but Broccoli was butterless, Didn't see our waiter for the next 10 minutes and when I asked for butter it came five minutes later by this time the broccoli was half eaten and cold. Wow! I am blown away by my experience at 99 today. When my friend offered to take me out there, I was extremely hesitant... almost even declined! My last experience was years ago, and I recall it being nothing special. However, today was the one of the best meals I've had in ages! And some of the best service! I was surprised by the wait on a Saturday, but it was a rainy Saturday afternoon and I guess no one had anything better to do. But the MOMENT we were seated, Mary was there - with her kind, gentle smile and her exuberance and her helpful attitude. MARY made our afternoon there an extreme pleasure and joy! I don't know who she is, but one time as she was walking away, I looked at my friend and said "I love Mary. I'm going to find her outside of this place and make her my friend." Yes, I know that's strange, but it was because she brought such true, authentic smiles to my face! I ordered the Chicken Kabob salad, which I had to stop eating multiple times just to rave about how good it was! We added the soup/salad and mini dessert option for only a few extra dollars, which was extremely worth the price! The Seafood chowder was delicious, and just the right amount. I went to the 99 in Somerville, near Boston every weekend and had great food and service. Man, I miss that one near Assembly Square. Auburn: You wait forever to get seated, you need to ASK for complimentary popcorn. You need to ask for water, and beverage. Dinner? Your food comes with rice and vegetable. Vegetable = 3 tiny stalks of asparagus. They get one star for the hard working staff. Service is always friendly and consistent at every location. They need to offer more than one vegetarian option. I've always had good luck with Ninety-Nines. The menu is comparable to an Applebees or Uno and the prices are better. We have a full dinner, with two margaritas, a large wedge salad that we split and a kids meal, for $42 before tip. A comparable dinner would be at least $10 more anywhere else. Our twin 15-month-old girls usually draw a lot of attention, but the wait staff at this Ninety Nine was particularly impressive. They fawned over the girls for the entire meal and we got excellent service as a bonus. Whatever we asked for was there in a minute. The entire staff was unceasingly friendly. They split our $4 wedge salad and our girls' desert without prompting. The only negative was that the entrees arrived just a couple of minutes after the salads, but our server even apologized for that. Go Ninety Nine! read more

Beware of upsell charges. Ordered a wrap and the waitress goes would you like soup or salad? (In a tone that implied it was included) this 99 has specials and others do not so I thought ok maybe it's included. Well it wasn't. Ordered a Caesar salad and it came out massive, was literally the entree version. I made a comment it's huge and she goes "oh he made it big". Well now this got me thinking ok how much is this going to be, it clearly wasn't included but they do have $4.99 4 course meal add ons so it can't be too bad if I'm charged. We get the bill and I'm charged $6 for the salad. My friend questions the waitress and she goes "oh I always ask if people would like a soup or salad" my friend told her that was misleading and she shrugged and walked away. Needless to say I won't be back. My friend then told me how at this same 99 if you pay with cash the waitresses will not give you back your coin change. She complained to the manager about this because her friend had told her they never give coin change when she pays with cash there and the manager didn't seem to care. Place likes to upsell and scam. There are few vegetarian selections. The salads are anemic and I was not given a choice of dressing. Instead the mixture of iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, and two cherry tomatoes was doused in a vinegar-heavy sauce. There was more iceberg lettuce in the bean burger, which only came in spicy.
