I used to go to 99 cent store in LA alot and it's nice to see them here. The store is large with a nice selection. I bought a smartphone charging wire for only $1 and staff helped me find it when I asked. The location is very convenient at Northern and 12th st. shopping center. I have been to this particular '99 Cents Only Store' a few times. It is Saturday and it's very busy because of the weekend. When we approached the store, the first comment my better half made was, "it cost 25 cents to use their shopping carts". If you take a shopping trip here you will understand what I'm talking about. Nevertheless, when you walk into the store you will notice how big it is inside. There were employees working and stocking the shelves and no matter if their working they take time to help you. There is a lot to look at and the aisles are long. Like the sign says, "Everything 99 cents unless otherwise marked". If you take your time and not in a rush there are items you have not seen before. Since the holidays are coming, there are toys already stocked just for that purpose, toys of all kinds. I got a laugh out of some the items, because they are comical. Like I said this store has a lot of items in stock. There are grocery items on one side of the store and I really can't tell you if it's a cost savings on their groceries, you will have to make your own decision on that. On other the times that I was here, I witnessed an employee helping an elderly person shop for her groceries. Now, that's pretty nice of the store to do that. Help the elderly in that way. After checking out, we took the cart back to get our 25 cents back. You see, the cart goes back to where it should go back to. You push the cart back into the one in front and engage that carts key to slide your quarter out. You now have your 25 cents returned to you. I guess this is a good way from keeping shopping carts from running amuck all over the parking lot. I've been coming to this store for years. Unfortunately, tonight I was made to feel so uncomfortable I will never return. Cash register 6 was open with light on and a male clerk ready to help. I put all my groceries on the belt then the cashier next door needed a price check. I was told " I'm sorry she can help you on register 5" then he proceeded to turn off light. I moved over to the next check out where I was stuck for a while because she couldn't figure things out. Meanwhile, he reopened his cash register and helped three other families. I always love coming to these stores because you can find the most amazing things here, or everyday items that you really shouldn't pay more than a dollar for. It's how things work sometimes. Don't pay too much! This store smelled funny and part of my mission was to figure out what. I never did. One of my favorite things they have here are the school supplies and the paper-related games and activities for kids. When I was a teacher children would literally just destroy this stuff and eat it. Why spend a great deal of money on it? They also have learning games and activity books you could give your kid to work on their basic facts. It happens to actually help them so you might consider it. I've eaten food from here. I haven't died. Quit being stuck up and save money. read more

The sheer amount of product diversity is what wowed me when I first walked in. There is a broad spectrum of items ranging from produce to board games and just about every 99 cent item in between. I do like the lighting and organization that this location offers making it easy to find what you are looking for in an efficient manner. The Core organic drinks are like 2.50 at most stores, but I can pick one up here for $1. There are some gems to be found within all the mire, you just have to keep your eyes peeled for the deals. It's kind of clean in there, but I did notice some seedy foot traffic that additionally brings in dust & grime which ultimately lowers the aura of this store. I don't waste my pennies because I know each penny earned is a penny saved. That penny can contribute to the great savings the 99 cent only stores have. Since the stores have a well perceived reputation from vendors they are allowed to purchase items that are from overstock, closeout merchandise, and/or regular orders. The items here are not the bad brands or just simply generics. The 99 Cent Only stores provide hundreds of name brand items throughout there stores with all types of items. Lots of the big names from Dial, Coca Cola, Dole, Frito Lay, Nestle and many, many more. So what is the catch. Absolutely nothing. When I walked into this store each aisle was neatly organized loaded with merchandise. It's true, this store has lots of different options of everything, contrary to my experience in other 99c stores, and yes I love the illumination of the space, I can't be in a shopping mood if I don't have bright light :) but I'm giving 3 stars because even the employees are trying to tide up the aisles, there's so many empty packages or broken things or missing pieces on stuff, including food, it's very disappointing, specially after having a long drive to visit this store. I don't know if it's the area, or the store, but I found many homeless around the parking lot and inside the store, I know they are regular people who had bad luck probably. But I can't stop to feel insecure...I had my toddlers with me so I had to keep an eye on them all the time at the store...if I ever visit again i will ask my husband to join the trip. read more

Some really good deals to be had here. I went in looking for the Disney Make-Up bags and was lucky to find the Alice In Wonderland collection as well as the Tsum Tsum bags. After that, I went in periodically looking for the Villan Make up bags or other characters and no luck. Service is sporadic but store is clean and organized. read more

I could literally spend an entire day at this 99cents only store. It's clean. They play awesome music. They have pretty much everything and anything your heart desires. Even produce. Yes, I said produce!! Seriously, I have been to dollar stores a million times, even other 99 cents only, and I really think this is the best dollar store I have ever been to!! Party supplies, health and beauty items, spices, dry food, frozen food, produce, house cleaners, plates, cups, candles, books, pool toys, candy, cooking instruments, Tupperware, bottled water, diet pills, q-tips, painting supplies, school supplies, batteries... the list goes on and on, and nothing is more than 99 cents. I would highly recommend hitting the 99 cents only store up prior to Walmart or the grocery store because you can save yourself a ton of loot, and honestly, the products are the same quality because they come from overstock and are actually the same products (most of the time). I know the idea of produce from the dollar store sounds crazy, but its been really good and fresh!! It's also a cheap way to waste away an afternoon with free A/C!! read more

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure you will need that 99¢ pregnancy test to go along with your 99¢ condoms. I think the 99¢ Only Store is one of the best values in town. Unlike other dollar stores, this chain has fresh produce and refrigerated foods. And enough cheap junk food to get you ready for your next sumo match. They have potted plants, dishes, animal treats, car accessories and cleaning supplies. They have everything. Not everything is a super deal. During my last visit, I've noticed that some of the national brands are downsizing their products and you can get a better value at the grocery store. But I usually walk away happy knowing I've saved a couple bucks. read more

Uh, I didnt say items were not clearly marked over 99cents. But the name of your store is 99 cents "ONLY". Its not "ONLY" 99cents. Plus you have normal everyday items in some other language. For example, your bottles of Downy. They are in another language. And there are many more products like this you are carrying. They look like knockoffs. I bought Nivea bodywash there and after I got it home I realized it was in another language and it didnt smell normal. read more

This review is after my second visit to the store. First of all, when I pulled into my handicap parking place, I noticed someone driving an Apache taxi cab whip into the handicap spot across from me. She had no hanging handicap placard or license plate. Not the store's fault, but also not a good start. Worst 99 Cents Only store I have ever been to (and trust me, I've been to a few). The inventory was messy, disorganized, and lacking. Was looking for the bottom to the lid of a trash can, and the employee in that aisle had no idea where they were and suggested I look in "that other aisle with containers". After walking through the aisles with containers (which is a big deal because as I mentioned, I have a handicap), I found nothing. When I got to the cash register, I told the cashier I did not want the lid I had because I couldn't find the bottom. After explaining where I had looked for it, she told me the employee I asked for help was new. When I politely suggested she let him know to put the trash can lids and bottoms together, she said that's not her job, it's the manager's. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

It assumes ... (worst word in English) ... that shoppers today carry around coins ... they don't ... and then assumes that they have the exact coin handy. Also assumes that they walked from the parking lot with a coin in-hand and not have to return to find one. Once you unload your groceries in your car after shopping ... you HAVE to return your cart and jiggle with the mechanism, to retrieve your quarter coin. I always return my cart to the "cart coral," but I am NOT going to walk all the way back to the front door because 99c Store is too cheap to use other technologies such as wheel locking devises. Can you imagine if Wal-Mart did this? I emailed corporate and got a robotic, form letter response. We love going through this store, they always have new things in there! Plan on spending at least an hour in there! I get a lot of my fresh fruits & veggies from here, it's the cheapest, even cheaper than Fry's! The shredded carrots and cabbage is of course only .99cents! Also, black beans, etc, .79-.99cents! At Fry's their about $1.99. You have to dig for the goods, but their there! Lotions and soaps I find to be knock off's and I don't like them. Been there done that! Now, Party decorations, gift bags, cards, toilet paper, etc...Cheap & good! Some things you can get for 2 for .99cents, I love that! Other things may only be .79 cents or .89 cents, but never more than .99cents! FUNNY: My daughter told me this Christmas that she already chose everything she wanted at the .99cent store. I'm always interested in a bargain. This is a good place to start. They have most everything that I generally need to get by in a week starting with produce, energy drinks, cleaning supplies, books, plates and even Belkin carrying cases for my Nano ipod! They open at 8:00 a.m. on Sundays which is ideal for running errands with my son. They even have fun toys and puzzles that keep him occupied. I love this store! The prices are unbeatable. Sometimes they have items you wouldn't believe are for a dollar. It's big and spacious and the cashiers usually work hard to get you out of there. Sometimes you run into an occasional crack head that wants to talk to you. But that's not the stores fault. If you have children you will love the choices of food you will have. Myself I love getting pickles and prunes and I always check the refrigerated items for super good deals. like one time they had bags of Jack links jerky for a dollar. Another time they had Kraft string cheese for a dollar. They have cheap good quality beauty products, loreal sunscreen , lots of good sunscreen, axe body spray, cotton balls ,qtips, any toiletry products really. They have so much random stuff too. Like Velcro sticker strips , phone stands, some tools, shoe racks, grippers, sticky hooks. When you see something cool or a good deal I suggest buying as many as you can. Because the are constantly restocking and moving in New products and selling out old ones. One time I got 65 nature valley peanut butter bars for a dollar, 12 Twinkies for a dollar. Hot dog buns for a dollar, you just have to look and you'll find something new everytime. For people on a budget, I highly recommend. Yes you can't get eveything you need. I hate dollar stores. My ideal neighborhood world not include any (or title loan stores, or Goodwill, but I digress). I freely admit I like more upscale places to shop. I also have a feeling that the store's presence (along with the numerous ugly For Lease banners in the Palo Verde strip center) is preventing the neighborhood from gentrifying as fast as it should be. However, even if your product and clientele aren't upscale, you still NEVER have an excuse to be foul mouthed. The sketchy looking male cashier needs to work in the stock room away from customers if he's going to drop swear words constantly. Especially when the customers behind me includes young children! Yes, the two women he helped before me bought a disgusting amount of product (I've never seen someone blow $100 at a dollar store), but you need to at least use substitution words when you're venting. Why did I come here in the first place? Well, I've heard it was "very clean and nice" for a dollar store, and it wasn't too bad. They had a lot more merchandise than I expected, and had private label goods from Target and Kroger. I picked up a pack of tissue paper for $1 and change, because I just could not bring myself to spend $3 for TWO SHEETS of "artisan" tissue paper at Cost Plus World Market. It's not great quality (the colors are "muddy" and randomly assorted), but I managed to pull everything together nicely. Would I go back? If I needed something low quality and cheap, like party favors, sure. It's never going to be a go-to place for me though. read more

Cleaner with less riffraff than some 99s towards downtown, my 77 year old mom and I always pick up some bargains, like tiramisu or pre packaged, California grown produce ( eggplant, garlic, ginger,etc), before trudging across the melting blacktop towards Fresh & Easy. One thing I like about 99c stores is the shambolic displays kinda force you to encounter goods you wouldnt elsewhere - provided they dont first shift imperceptibly and crush you in North America's most steeply discounted avalanche. For example, this place had a section of, like, a thousand cans of a retro lemonade - iced tea combo called "Arnold Palmer". Each can featured a cool B&W photo of the famous golfer; plus the drink was delish. I plan to return someday to actually buy a can. Look for me, wont you? It's no AJ's, but if you can find whatever it is you're looking for at the 99 Cent Store, it's the place to get it. The title isn't just a clever name, everything that they carry is 99 cents. That includes anything from toothpaste, to laundry detergent, to dog food. If quality isn't an issue, I generally like to run through this store first and then pick up whatever I couldn't scratch off of the list at a traditional store. Even if you don't need anything in particular, it might be worth a swoop by to scope out their inventory. You might be surprised how convenient this place can be . . . read more

I stop the cashier and question the price thinking everything was 99 cents as the stores name implies. I am told that most of the items are 99 cents. The store itself is good, the customer service people Very good, the prices great. THE PROBLEMS #1 I am a senior and hate to pay in cash. I ALWAYS use a credit card just for the sake of not having to dig into my purse and have the hassle of dealing with cash. FIRST the store makes you get a cashier to get to the rest room. Not my favorite thing to do especially when they are busy you have to either wait for run else where but I dealt with it. #2 Now some rocket scientist decides they are going to make you put a quarter into a slot to get a shopping cart. GIVE ME A BREAK. This is discrimination against anyone using the 12th street/Northern store as it is a terrible neighborhood to begin with and a hassle to dig for change and especially a quarter. This is sad as this store in particular was very clean and well maintained. I am just totally turned off by the idea of having to get permission to use the rest room and now HAVING TO DIG FOR A QUARTER TO GET A CART.BAD BAD BAD. read more

If you're not shopping here for veggies and fruit, you're wasting a lot of money! I bought an entire head of cauliflower for 99 cents. It's over $2 a lb at any grocery store you shop at. And it was delicious! I've changed my entire shopping routine since I found this store. I shop here first for my bananas, asparagus, oranges, avocados, tomatoes, broccoli, onions, potatoes and all the other veggies they carry. Then I go to Bashas to do the rest of my shopping and pick up what I couldn't get at this store. If you're staying away because you think they only carry junk, think again. I get cookies of all kinds here and save a minimum 25-50 cents per bag over other stores. And when you have big cookie eaters, this type of savings adds up fast. They have boxes of cereal for 99 cents, popcorn and CrackerJack, potato chips, candy bars, you name, it's here! I buy hand cream, toothpaste, aluminum foil, baggies and even coloring books and crayons here. And if you're looking for holiday decorations, don't miss their deals. Where else can you get Easter baskets for 99 cents? And don't even get me started on Christmas or Halloween decorations. School teachers THIS should be your store for cheap supplies! I could go on and on about this place, but what you need to do is see it for yourself. I'm pretty sure anyone who goes in will have a hard time getting out without buying something. Oh, and if you think men won't be interested, think again. You can get car polish, nuts and bolts, duct tape and tons of other things that you pay big money for at your local hardware store. And it's all just 99 cents - really! So the next time you're looking for something to do, take the family to check this place out. I purchased 73 items on 12/9/14 for a party I was going to have last night . I have the reciept. Unfortunatly I became ill and had to cancel the party. I did not even take any of the items out of the 99 cents store bags and they have been in my trunk. Today after work I went back to the same store with my reciept and my items to return. After going to 3 registers, the shift manager, Sarah Hines finally helped me. I handed her the reciept and told her I wished to return the items. She said that she cannot do that. I said, I bought them 2 days ago, they are in unopened original packaging and even in the bags they packed. She said she can only take back 9 items. I asked her to show me on the reciept, in the store, or at the register where it says that. She said that it doesnt, its just a policy they have in the office in the back. I told her that if its not posted anywhere in the store or on reciept, how would customers know that? She said she didnt know. I asked her to return the 9 items then and give me store credit for the rest and I would use it another time. She began counting the items and then said, ok go get your 50 something items. I said, no I dont need it now - I would like a store credit to use at a later time. She said she couldnt do that. I asked her to call her manager, she would not. I asked her to call corporate, she would not. People in line behind me were shocked and 2 actually walked out of the store saying that they didnt want to buy items if they couldnt return them if they didnt work either. She was yelling across 2 registers asking someone else to help her. People in the store were all staring. She was absolutely rude, unprofessional and a horrible employee. Not the way that 99 cent only would want to be represented. I asked her if I could return 9 items a day then and she said no you cant. I asked her what my options were and she said you can leave with your items. I asked her for corporates phone number and her name. She wrote down a number, her name Sarah Hines, and then "manger". As a manager, she cant even spell her own title? I immediately called the number I was given and they said it was IT help desk for stores and not customer service. I was even more upset. They gave me the number for customer service which is closed. I have never been treated so rudely. There is no policy on my reciept that says that only 9 items can be returned. There is no sign in the store or on the registers. How can customers know of a policy if its not listed anywhere? Its not like I bought items 30 days ago and are just coming back now. It was 2 days! I received absolutely no customer service from her or anyone in the store whatsoever. I am livid right now. I shop in that store very often and have never experienced anything like this. If there is a return policy, it must be on the reciept or posted in the store. I would like someone at Corporate to contact me regarding this. There has to be a solution regarding my situation. The bags are still sitting in my car. I just want to return them. They are unopened, still wrapped in paper and in original bags. And I have my original reciept.
