929 Lounge has such a sexy vibe and is absolutely perfect for a date night. Maybe not a first date since it's definitely on the cramped side... unless you're already sure there's going to be a second one. The cocktail menu being printed on CDs is such a fun, nostalgic touch, and every drink we tried was genuinely good. I'm already planning my next visit just to work my way through more of the menu. Cool atmosphere, great drinks, and a spot you'll want to linger in. Can't wait to go back.

Good lounge bar. A bit too warm and it was filled with people. Really appreciated the canto pop music. Found dj ing with cd really cool! Def don't see this often. Drinks are more creative than that of downstairs in travelers. Really appreciated the ambience and music

Located on the 2nd floor of Hue House, a multicultural Asian American building, this is a nice sit down bar that features Canto and Mando pop culture influences. I love the tea infused cocktails and their craft is high up there. We made reservations a few days in advance which is mandatory in the weekends. Even if you want to only try the tea vending machine, you may not have luck just trying it since they mandated reservations or waitlist to get tokens, since a lot of people are waiting for tables for the 929 bar and there's extremely limited space on the first floor My friends and I were able to get seated 30 min before our reservation, noting we would only have 90 min which is basically the same rule enforced for a reservation at the original time. We tried the following drinks - Shanghai Summer Fling - their most popular drink. I really liked this one - fruity, tea, with a bit of tropical and foam - Heirloom + Folklore - clarified cocktail, smooth - Eyes, Smoke, Magic - an acquired taste - you either love it or hate it. I enjoyed it - smoky tea flavor profile that can be a bit medicinal in smell, and spirit forward - Years and Years - fruity and slightly herbal, has a nice fruit roll up like garnish to enjoy Drinks were delivered fairly quickly and we were able to easily catch up with one another as the place was not too loud while we are able to sit in close proximity without being too tight of a space. Water refills were abundant which I appreciate. While cocktail prices are above average ($21-28 each before tax and tip), you'll be rest assured you will be well taken care of!

Definitely need a reservation for this place. They're all very inventive drinks that use Chinese ingredients. Highly recommend!

Delicious drinks, a stunning interior, and incredible service. Just a tad bit expensive for drinks, but I understand what the 929 team is doing, and they're absolutely killing it. Their new location is tucked upstairs in Midtown East right bt Grand Centeal; moody, great jams, Taiwanese inspired everywhere you look. Bites and drinks were phenomenal, but as i mentioned just a little pricy. Excited to come back and try the rest of their menu.

Great ambiance, super fun vibes, great music, and creative drinks! The cocktail that I ordered, shanghai summer fling, was very tasty. It's a good lounge/cocktail bar to sip drinks with friends. The drinks and food is a bit pricey, and I would definitely stick with drinks because food was just okay and not worth the price. Of note, there's also a 90 minute seating limit, which was not an issue for us but may be for others.

The decor was very thoughtful and aesthetic. I loved the red seats and Mando-pop and Canto-pop theme. The menu was unique, it was a CD case with each drink on a CD, and I liked that the drinks were in order from least to most strong for your picking. I got the Shanghai Summer Fling and my partner got a Very Tipsy Poet. Both drinks were tasty with a fresh tea flavor. I also loved the foam on top of our drinks, I especially enjoyed the salted soy milk foam on the top of my Shanghai Summer Fling. We got Pineapple Shrimp Youtiao and were surprised by the presentation. It had the sprinkles and white sauce, we didn't realize it would look like a dessert! But it was tasty, it kind of reminded me of honey walnut shrimp and the sprinkles surprisingly went well with it. Would definitely come back to try more of their food items and drinks!

Service: 4.7/5 Drinks: 4/5 Price: $$ ($20-30) For those unfamiliar, 929 is a Canto/Mando-pop themed bar just re-opened in Midtown, so they'll be playing nostalgic tunes all night. Sometimes there's a live DJ you can make requests to. Decoration-wise, it's very similar to their old location, just more elevated. Mostly booth seating (on plush red couches) suitable for smaller groups, or bar seating for solo/paired drinkers. The bathroom is kept very clean + smells good, albeit snug. A little bit like your walk back there passing the bar. The staff is very attentive (maybe a little too much), checking in multiple times to refill waters + take additional orders. I think they have a time limit, though not sure how long. I imagine it's around the 1.5-2 hour mark. What I Ordered (in order of preference): - Shanghai Summer Fling: tastes like my chinese gma's pickled fruit candy - Spring of Life: truffle-y + creamy, can't tell if I like, only shaken drink on the menu - Very Tipsy Poet: fragrant barley foam, kinda strong drink, grew on me - Years + Years: strong-ish - Memoir in a Tea House: strong, kinda 1 note - (off menu) Gin Fizz: very tart

What a fun bar! Love the immersive theme, attention to detail throughout the space, and of course, the delicious cocktails. 929 is nestled in the backroom of a Taiwanese bento box / street food restaurant. As soon as you enter, you're transported into a lively but intimate space! I downed my drink in probably under 10 minutes, which was a first for me because I'm usually a sip-and-savor drinker, but the HKD was so addicting it was quickly gone...

Cocktails were delicious. I got the Shanghai Summer Fling and it was very refreshing and aromatic. I like the mando-canto pop theme. The CD menu was so cute and unique. One star off because the seating arrangement was a bit odd for a group of 5. We weren't able to sit around one table-- just one straight row along the couch.

Although I haven't been to their prior LIC location, as a kid who grew up listening to 80s and 90s Canto/Mando pop, I'm glad I got a chance to check out their new location and new drinks at Hue House on 41st. I love the concept of naming cocktails after certain songs and see how the specific ingredients play into the inspiration. Flipping through CDs to see their drinks was also very cute and fitting. --Shanghai Summer Flight: delicious with the prominent jasmine green tea and subtle lychee flavors. The soy milk foam paired well with the green tea. Loved how it wasn't too alcohol-forward and not too sweet either! --Spring of Life: super interesting!! The flavors that hit me were: truffle, brown butter, pu'er milk tea, then whisky. The truffle taste was prominent but not overpowering because the other flavors started coming in. It almost tasted like brown sugar milk tea because of the milk and tea combo but I'm glad the pu'er specific aroma came through. --Eyes, Smoke, Magic: I never knew that smoked plum and roselle tea meshed well together! The fruity and bright flavors from both were prominent and then the alcohol hits towards the end. Loved the tea cup it is served in. --Memoir in a Team House: the shaoxing and vermouth were a little too strong for me but I liked the osmathus fragrant amongst the black tea flavors. --For food: The popcorn chicken was solid with tender pieces and a light batter. The basil cream grew on me towards the end. The sanbei octopus was executed pretty well. The sanbei sauce had enough ginger and basil. Marinated octopus is not easy to work with; while I wish it was more tender, I think it was able to successfully serve as a vehicle for the sanbei flavors/sauce. I love the showcase of the vinyls, CDs, and VCR tapes, as well as the red velvet couches with the dim lighting. I enjoyed how they played certain less popular songs from popular artists like Jolin Tsai and Eva Hsiao, so it felt familiar yet new. Apparently you could request certain songs with the DJ? Overall, I liked the fusion concept and enjoyed my time there. I look forward to trying other drinks and snacks next time!

The cocktails and food are so wonderful here, but the main reason we come back is Chae! She's the best woman in the entire world.

Walking thru the unmarked door from Gulp into this speakeasy, you feel transported to a totally different vibe--dim, intimate with a retro 80s feel--wide wood-paneled walls, 80s and 90s Asian music album covers and media framed and hanging as decor. A sleek bar setup, with rectangular lighting haloing the bar shelves. A stash of 80s and 90s music - vinyl, cassette tapes, LPs hanging out in the back corner with an in-house DJ curating throwback hits mixed in with some of today's grooves. The menu is accessible via QR code printed on a cassette tape. There are about two dozen signature drinks, a handful of snacks, and a 1.5 hour time limit for each table listed. They are quite strict with the turnover time though also polite about it. We ordered the following, inspired by Mando and Canto-pop songs, $18 each. We enjoyed them all! 1) BKK HKG 曼谷瑪利亞 (secondary translation: Bangkok Maria) Light Rum Infused Thai Tea, Canerock Jamaican Rum, Dry Curacao, Pistachio Orgeat, Lemon, Orange Blossom - citrusy, refreshing, lightly sweet, like a breezy spring afternoon. 2) Cat's Eye 貓眼 Guilder's Red Oolong Gin, Coffee Vermouth, Cocchi Americano Rosa, Italicus - a Negroni with herbally tea and coffee notes, well-balanced. 3) The Most Familiar Stranger 最熟悉的陌生人 Basil-Infused Gin, Scotch Whisky, Ginger Honey, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice, Lime Juice, Soy Milk + Soy Sauce Maple Foam, Sesame Oil - smooth foam on top, subtly savory, dry and creamy at the same time. 4) Not the Melon You Know 幻聽 (secondary translation: Auditory Hallucination/Imagined Sound) Four Season Green Tea-Infused Vodka, Winter Melon + Osmanthus Syrup, Lime Juice - fragrantly floral, sweet, very lightly grassy and bright. 5) Sweet Guilty Pleasure 甜秘密 (secondary translation: Sweet Secret) Earl Grey-Infused Brandy, Passionfruit Juice, Orange Juice, Lime Juice, Honey - tangy and citrusy, the evening version of a morning smoothie. For finger foods we got two orders of sweet potato fries with plum seasoning, I'm a fan of plum seasoning in general and thought it was a creative use; flavor-wise it added an unexpected sweet and tart punch to the sweet potato. Though the fries themselves were pretty standard. It's hard to maintain a crisp on these given the water content. Would definitely come back and try some of the other drinks! Staff was friendly. The bartender put on a show pouring drinks from impressive heights. Until next time! Side note: YAAYY Yelp milestone - review number 1000!

It's not what I expected to find here, and if I worked or lived in this area I'm sure I'd want to pop in often to browse or shop. Having said that... the shop is a bit cramped, which makes comfortable browsing a challenge--understood it is the city and real estate is a challenge, but the layout does make for a less than comfortable experience. Perhaps it is the hybrid portion record shop/portion club that means there isn't a ton of room for the shop portion. As for the browsing, it was a bit frustrating -- I was looking for a holiday gift and was having issues and wound up asking for help - "Do you have anything by Tori Amos?" "i dunno" (not super helpful) "...but you can look under T. Yep... they alphabetize by artist first name. I found Weird Al Yankovic under "A". I don't even know where to start there...I would personally expect to find this under Y...if you want to try to make a case to have it under W and treat "Weird" like a band or entity name I won't agree but I'll listen... but under A? For Al? We're alphabetizing by first name? Come on!! Mock outrage aside, it just felt too hard to find anything, not a fun place to browse and not a lot of assistance available to do so. Decent amount of records though, prices seemed a bit all over the map to me--some reasonable, some a bit outlandish--perhaps more careless than trying to rip people off--but I'd wager you can make some finds here. Might not have been my favorite record shop, but it's a record shop nonetheless--I'm sure I'll be back.

Folks running the shop are friendly and knowledgeable, and there's a great selection, so all good there. But it's not my favorite place.

His communication skills (or lack there of) ruin my experiences here every time. This time he scoffed at me saying "I'll pass on this one" to a record with a 8" scuff. Even after I apologized and led with "I am admittedly picky with my vinyl". Customer is always wrong in this establishment. It's unlikely i'll be returning in the future, and if I do it'll be for the selection of CDs only as I find the used selection is rather out of style. Very little GOOD used stuff. The reissues are plentiful, well curated, and priced at MSRP. The CD selection is admittedly incredible, but the pricing reminds me of FYE prices circa 2003; height of CD era prices. If you decide to come here I'd suggest only coming for the great selection of CDs and reissues, despite the prices of the former. I am happy with the CDs I did buy, as well as the reissue, but am very let down by the condition of the used record I brought home. The lighting is plentiful, so I'll take full responsibility for picking out a subpar album. I will never take responsibility for being treated like I am a nuisance by the owner; time and time again despite always spending a good chunk of money every time I visit. I'd much rather spend my hard earned money where it is appreciated.

I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.
