Most of the cds are found in a box on the floor that are thrifted, you really have to sit down if you're trying to get something. There's also posters downstairs along with band shirts

We've visited this record store twice, and it's always fun to browse. The store is pretty big when you count in the second floor in the basement. This is a record store where there's something for everyone. I also love whoever chooses which records face the front of the bins - they definitely have a sense of humor. There is never anything like finding something you are excited about when digging through a bin. And don't miss the poster collection in the back in the basement!

Who knew Marilyn Monroe had an entire album. I always thought she had that one song out Mr President happy birthday.

Great space loved the flow and vibe. The selection of records posters and vintage items was a pleasant mix, the sale crates had some gems I enjoyed searching through the crates. Overall I loved the bargains. The gentleman upstairs was not warm or welcoming. I asked him a question about some vinyl I was searching for. His response was very nonchalant and almost as if he felt bothered. I wasn't sure if it was because I was a black man or he treats all customers this way. I would hope he is not the owner are part owner with that dark unpleasant attitude towards customers. The guy behind the register downstairs had greater customer service skills. Wish made the shopping experience a bit more pleasant.

Spent the day in the city and wanted to do some record shopping in this area. So glad to have found this shop. They have a huge selection of new and used across many many genres, including a huge punk section, which I was after. Prices seemed to be fair - not necessarily high or low. I only bought two records but totally could have bought a dozen of them or more. Prices seemed to be fair - not necessarily high or low. Next time for sure!

Very cool store, one of the best vinyl and clothing shops in NYC

At first we stopped at Bleeker St. Records. When I asked about the Punk record selection, they said we have a huge selection of Punk at our "other" record store. Well then, we're waiting... Where is this other store? Its called "Generation Records"on Thompson st. Hurray! Walking into the store, there is a really fun vibe. Somehow we're directed to the basement where all of the Punk, Rock and Jazz records are located. We walk downstairs and immediately see some classic punk rock posters. My teenager looks at me and says, ooh yeah. We spent a solid hour looking thru the bins and found a few punk rock 45s, a Robin Towers album (who the HELL is this yahoo? I just wiki'd him, holy smokes) Like any record store, they play their own records. This guys are cranking Sonic Youth?! Very very cool. I highly recommend Generation Records. They have great tee shirts, posters and of course lotsa cool vinyl records.

Rude staff here. Not recommended. Tried to purchase a record and they wouldn't allow it.

Out of all the record stores I went to this one was the best. Affordable. Good selection. Nice staff.

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.

I…read moreordered a Delius piano solo that took eight weeks to arrive, and communication with the store was painfully intermittent with me having to follow up constantly. In the end, it would have been faster to order it myself online. More recently, I tried to exchange a gift I received, a biography (not a musical score), that I already owned. I simply wanted to exchange the biography, which was clearly unread, for a different one that was actually more expensive. I was happy to pay the difference. I even had the physical receipt. Both were full-price books, not discounted items. The exchange was declined under their umbrella policy. I understand having a policy in place to protect publishers, but it would be clearer to simply state "All Sales Final on Printed Materials." Instead, the language references "copyrighted materials," which suggests there may be exceptions, when in practice there are not. I want to support a neighborhood brick and mortar music shop. But when selection is limited, flexibility is minimal, and communication is inconsistent, it becomes difficult to justify staying loyal. I am disappointed to say, that I will likely purchase my scores and books elsewhere going forward. At times, the store feels oriented more toward internal or institutional purchases than toward the musicians and readers who live in the neighborhood.

Great amount and variety of books in good editions. Some merchandise can be of higher quality…read morethough (seriously).
