Calamari
Anna T.

Cute spot! Came here Friday night around 8:30, it was pretty empty, was able to sit wherever! Staff were very nice, very friendly. Service was good! To start I had a pomegranate martini. This was ok. Tasted more like juice. We got the calamari for an app. This as good, but could have been fried a little longer. For my main I got the mixed grill. It had shrimp, calamari, and octopus. This was good, except everything was a little bit too charred leaving a strange after taste.

Did the trick. Was looking for Greek food in Greek town and it was a cute bar/casual vibe on a Sunday afternoon. The service was great, the food was not bad. The lemony avgolemono soup was creamy and warming on a chilly day. I liked that it came with bread.

Octopus and pork shoulder

Amazing wine deal - $25 for delicious Greek wine! So we naturally stopped in for dinner hoping to sit on the cute patio but the weather wasn't so great. The interior is more of a dive bar feel. We got some lamb skewers on special to start. The octopus and complementary bread was also a tasty start to the meal. We got the pork shoulder entree with Greek fries and salad. Everything was of great quality and flavorful!

Zuccini cakes and sautéed calamari

What a lovely find in Greek town! Quite different from our usual, and everything delicious. Zucchini cakes (like potato cakes) with tzatziki-delightful. Spicy calamari is INCREDIBLE!!! Pork belly gyro was delicious but could use more meat & tomatoes. And the DESSERTS!!!! Bougatsa was yummy; the custard was firm (not gooey & overwhelming like the stuff in a donut,) and it wasn't overly sweet. The baklava cheesecake is the stuff of dreams!!! Super creamy with lots of delectable baklava chunks on top. I would come back just for that. Incredible. Only complaint was the too-loud dance music in the dining room; distracting and more fit for a bar. Wrong vibe for the room, way too much base to enjoy delicious food by. Will definitely be back and they apparently do takeout really well also.

What a cool place and great food. We got there early and were greeted with a smile and friendly help from behind the bar. We were hoping for an authentic Greek experience and when we heard some of the men at the bar speaking Greek, we knew we found it. There is graffiti art all around the place that looks amazing. We ordered octopus and the three spreads for a starter and honestly it was enough but we wanted more. Chicken Schwarna with greek fries and an authentic Greek salad where yummy. We ordered Bougatsa for dessert a lovely Philo dough custard filled dessert enough for two or four. Great music, great service, great food, great experience.

Hillas And Grilled Vegetables Appetizer

Greektown of course has a lot of Greek restaurants, and this is one of the most enduring ones with a history of food and fun. It's a local family run business that even though it can get loud and crazy, it still has a quaintness to it. 9 Muses is more like a bar but still a restaurant. Always has some ethnic music blasting. The prices aren't bad for around here. A lot of choices for Greek are around here but this is not only among the best food, but also it's pretty affordable. I picked it for a date because it was cheaper then the other Greek places across the street. There's no valet parking here though. Good specials on drinks and food. It was $5 for a Hillas. This is one of the best Greek beers, and there's also imported wine if you're more into that. As for the food, vegetarian options are lacking but they have a few. We got the Grilled Vegetables Appetizer to share. It's $9 for quite a bit. This was a colorful plate of vegetables tossed in olive oil. Good flavors even though it was just vegetables, but it was better than it looked. There was eggplant, squash, yellow peppers, and zucchini. On the rest of the menu, there's meaty dishes like chicken kabobs and octopus. There were a few diners there who ordered these, which are delicacies in Greek restaurants. Basically it's a great place for authentic Greek. It can have more of a club atmosphere with the loud music. The atmosphere isn't for everyone, but it gives the place some personality since there's no TVs or anything to watch.

Ate here before a show at the uic pavilion, it was exactly what I wanted. A chill spot w good drinks and beer, v tasty Greek food. I got a gyro sandwich w rice and side of Greek fries w a Greek salad on the side. Service was good and the food was great too. Would def come back here or order from here! Parking over here is a hit or miss, not the easiest.

She stated she did not know why he refused as this was entirely possible. This led is to think that since the tip is included in the bill, he didn't need to worry about the quality of his service. He was not around very much at all and not personable in the least so, he was right to worry about that ‍ SECOND: The food was sort of edible () but not nearly as delicious as the other establishments in Greek Town. My husbands chicken was pink, my pork chops tough, the rice mushy. For the price point, disappointing . And no, we didn't send anything back, it wasn't a mistake, just not good. This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant. Ema, what happened to you?!

My friends and I started the evening with champagne and the Mezze Collection, which is an assortment of spreads and pita. I've had this before at brunch, and it is a REQUIREMENT at Andros. We then ordered a salad, mussels, lamb shoulder, and the whole fish (Andros style) to share. Several of the items were on their specials menu for the night, and they were all to die for. The fish was prepared and deboned at the table, which took out all the stress and work! I can't wait to come back for another dinner experience!

This place has been on my list for a very long time and we got in for a Valentine's Day…read morereservation. I was really excited about the limited menu because I wanted the shredded lamb shoulder. Our reservation was at 5:30... About as early as you can get for dinner and yet they were already sold out of the special so that was really disappointing that they would be so unprepared for one of the most popular dinner date holidays of the year... Alternatively, we went with a bunch of appetizers and split two entrées. Somewhere delicious somewhere very mid and somewhere a let down. Here's the breakdown: - Fried zucchini chips 5/5 - one of my favs in the city - Octopus 2/5 - one of my least favs in the city... it lacked flavor, was a small portion for the price and had a gooey string that grossed us both out - Fish spread that started with an M... haha 5/5 - I can't remember the name, but this was delicious! It was definitely pricey for the portion though especially because it didn't include pita... We had to pay an additional seven dollars for two pieces of pita, which was ridiculous - Oysters - 4/5 - husband enjoyed - Katifi cheese pie 4/5 - very tasty! Sweet and pricey but worth it - On special - fried fish- 2/5 - the waitress described these as small bite-size fish, but that is not how they came out and instead, it was really difficult to debone them and you hardly got any meat out of it. The flavor wasn't bad, but the experience was disappointing. I will say that they comped these after our feedback. - Gyros - 2.5/5 - it's not that these were bad per se... But I've had way better in the city to include fast, casual restaurants, and the price for the portion was pretty ridiculous again. Hardly any accoutrements. - Rockfish with pistachio brown butter - 5/5 - I believe this fish was on special and she described it as being a sweeter fish. They did come to the table and cut it for you so it was a lot easier to eat. The fish was cooked perfectly and had a sweet flavor. I also liked that you could choose your own dressing because the brown butter pistachio was delicious. - baklava froyo 3/5 - i'll bump this up to three because my husband liked it more than I did, but I was very disappointed by this dessert. The Greek yogurt was sour as to be expected, but instead of having actual baklava or pistachio flavor to balance it out, it basically just tasted like they dumped simple syrup on it and it was like a sour ice cream with just pure sugar drizzle... It really didn't come together for me. Overall, the service was really good and our waiter was very sweet. Also, our wine was delicious and the zucchini chips and fish spread were good, so maybe we would come for appetizers and drinks, but I definitely wouldn't return for a Greek dinner with the other options we have in the city.

It's pretty cool that although the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, staff from the adjacent bar came around every so often and took orders. For appetizers, we started with the feta and olive appetizers. They were good, but I'd probably order something a little more unique next time. I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken. When I asked to be seated at one of those tables, we were told they were reserved for bigger parties. (This has actually happened before, but typically one of the owners is there and quickly accommodates) This time, we waited for a manager and literally stood in the middle of the dining room for close to 5 min before a manager came and said they were cleaning a table. The table they sat us at was for 4 people; as were the ones supposedly being saved for a bigger party. I accepted the table because at that point was too frustrated to push back. When we finally got our check he informed me that 20% gratuity was included. At that point I was so flustered I did not push back. This gratuity was definitely not earned and explains why he was not inspired to take care of us.
