This is a company who truly cares for people. In a way, HVAC businesses are a type of "first responder": they get called when heating breaks in the coldest of cold-snaps or a/c breaks during the hottest days. For families who experience these kinds of incidents, it can truly be an emergency. This was the case for our family, and 888 was our hero -- not once, but twice.
I should have written a review after the first time they arrived as first responders -- when our furnace went out right after Thanksgiving during a cold snap. We needed our furnace replaced. We got a few quotes, with 888 being one of them that was very reasonable. Most other businesses couldn't fit us in for a furnace replacement for several days. 888 came to give bid and made it happen within the same day by moving things around on their schedule. I didn't realize until they came later that day that replacing a furnace takes a crew -- several guys and many hours. It must have taken 888 a lot of coordination to get the crew and parts together so quickly. The crew was so professional, and we have young children, so having a warm house was essential for us during those freezing cold days.
I had been meaning to write a review about that incident, but parent life got busy and a few weeks went by. Yet, it is the rest of this story that is the most important part. Many companies can be professional, many companies may even be able to shift things around to get a crew together fast (though we couldn't find one!), but not many companies care about people like 888 does.
Yesterday, I awoke like any other day. I got up early, drank my coffee, woke up my kids, got them ready for school. My husband was out of town for work. My five-year-old awoke telling me her room "smelled bad." I also thought I smelled something...was it the faint smell of gas? I wasn't quite sure. Just in case, I called 888 to see if they could send someone out to check the new furnace. They said they would get someone out within the half hour.
When I returned home after school drop off about 10 minutes later, I walked into my house to the strongest smell of gas. It was so strong that I nearly passed out. In a panic, I ran into the house and opened a few windows, then ran out again to get air. I did this a few times until had a 3 or 4 windows open. Moments later, 888 pulled up: it was Eljay and Michael -- my first responders and my heroes.
They entered the house, expressing alarm at the level of gas smell -- Eljay used his wand and confirmed that the gas was not coming from the furnace (of course, it was brand new and expertly installed), but by the fireplace (which we had recently gotten serviced by a fireplace company; that company will not receive a positive review). Eljay confirmed that the gas line inside the fireplace looked like it had been cut and gas was spewing out at such a rate that it was making a hissing noise. Eljay stopped the gas flow to the fireplace, Michael instructed me to quickly open all the windows in the house. They stayed until the gas level reached a safe level, they gave me a timeline for when I should close the windows (it was 11 degrees that day) and when it would be safe to turn on the furnace again. And when I asked how much it cost for their trouble to come out, Eljay said, "Don't worry about a charge. We are just happy to have helped and that you are safe." Then, in the thick of my gas-filled house, with windows open and frigid air pouring in, there in front of my Christmas tree with my kind first responders, I really did cry with gratitude.
This is not just a review. It is a story of kindness. It is a story of a company who really cares and of two wonderful employees who went the extra mile when they didn't have to. (The fireplace isn't even their job!)
This is the story I want you to think about when an HVAC emergency hits your family. Who are the first responders you want? Who is going to care about your family's wellbeing? 888 Heating and Air Conditioning is that company, Eljay and Michael and their whole crew are your team and your partners.
