So last night at 2am I discovered our long time central air had kicked the bucket....no problem since every day this week it been near or at 100 degrees. So I called an A/C service who said they would be there in the morning. They never showed but they finally called at 12:40 saying maybe tomorrow. Nope! Bubye...I called a local company...not a chain but a family business...with a receptionist who asked me to describe the problem. After hearing the issue she said it's probably a capacitor that costs about 32 bucks at Ace Hardware but if we come put it on there'd be a $450 charge. So I Googled and You Tubed...how do you fix a capacitor on a Trane A/C? After watching a couple...I went to Ace and bought a new capacitor...yanked the old one off and put the new one on...with a little bit of Jerry-rigging as it was skinnier than the old one and didn't fit the bracket...and voila! Air conditioner is humming along nicely!!! Saved a lot of money! Thanks Dorothy at Davey Heating and Cooling! It's nice to have great customer service even though I never used your service. After my AC unit went dead I began calling multiple venders. If they called back it was weeks - until I called Davey Heating and Air. Dorothy offered to schedule a tech that afternoon and then started running through the most common causes. With her on the line I found a blown fuse on the units motherboard and was able to replace it (props to Home Depot for having them in stock). AC stopped working without warning on the hottest day of the year thus far, so put in a request for service. Within ~10 minutes, got a call from this company who asked some basic questions and troubleshooted some things over the phone, without even talking amount payment or price. When that didn't work after an hour, I messaged back and they got me on the schedule for the next day (it was already 5pm by this time. They came promptly during the window and gave me heads up, figured out the issue in less than 15 minutes, and gave me a range of options and prices. He actually taught me several things about the AC and showed me how to do some repairs myself and where to get parts, and lo and behold it worked like a charm! Couldn't be happier with the quality, speed, and friendliness of the service. Got my AC pumping ice cold air in time to get the house cool for my kids' naps. Davey will absolutely be my go-to from now on and I would recommend them to anyone and everything. read more

It's been a little over a year and after speaking with two other HVAC companies, and making calls to some of my friends in the business, and with a ton of home remodeling experience under my belt, we discussed this at the house and I was prompted to write this review. We had a water leak in my twelve year old 96% efficient Amana furnace and I placed a call to Davey. Dorothy was very courteous sent out her son Junior to look at what was going on. He told me he was going to condemn my furnace though there was no signs of aerial contamination. I told him I'll go out and buy two expensive meters and they both showed ZERO contamination! Ok, Junior then said the furnace would be covered under replacement warranty as the heat exchanger was cracked. He talked to the local dispatcher and they had a unit in stock. I was then told by Junior that it would cost me THIRTY FIVE HUNDRED to get the job done. I was flabbergasted at the price! This was for labor! Unbelievable! Ok it was winter and cold temps needed to be handled so I told him let's do it. Junior returned and started installing all the while informing me that it would cost me another EIGHT HUNDRED! I told him no way! Mind you, my old unit was removed and brought downtown. He called his office and they backed off on the additional eight hundred. I left Junior alone and he put together the new furnace and installed it! It was not straight, not plumbed and he left after the furnace was running. I called Dorothy and COMPLAINED! She sent Senior out and he straightened things out. The inspector came by and failed the inspection. Senior came out again and touched up all the work. Senior had to come by a third time to rewire the condensate pump... to code! That final time he came, I could tell he was PO'ed at returning and never said a darn word to me. No respect at all! Bottom line, I was ripped off to high heaven. Thirty five hundred... for the work done? Maybe they get this from other uneducated customers but the unit was under warranty, the whole installation with labor should have cost me $2000 at MOST! I found an unbelievably reputable HVAC and they have so far treated me with respect and professionalism especially when it comes to pricing and top notch customer service. Called up Davey to get a quote. They were the only company that was able to give a estimate range over the phone and be transparent. I absolutely hate when companies won't answer basic questions like "what is your typical install cost, give me an estimate between best case and worst case". They always want to get into your home to snoop around as if it's so different between jobs that the costs would really vary that much, but alas if they pull up to a nice house in a nice neighborhood that's the opportunity to jack up their prices. Talking with Dorothy on the phone was a pleasure, she was able to answer my questions and give me a price over the phone that low and behold was exactly what it ended up costing. Overall got a new combi boiler unit installed. They did it all in a day and even hauled away and disposed of the 69 year old boiler and 27 year old hot water tank. I'd been putting off replacing my 1993 model a/c for a few years, but it was finished. With crippling tariffs looming, it was time. Yelp is a great place to start. I reached out to a handful of the highest rated companies for a quote. Davey won the day for multiple reasons: It's small and family-owned. Dorothy called me right away on a Saturday. She was helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with my questions. Try that with a call center! The installer was not a random tech with no stake--he's an owner with skin in the game and decades of experience. Service from big companies can be impersonal and inflexible. This was the opposite, as it should be. We had four quotes/companies come by. Each person had different things to say about my needs and some strong disagreements with each other. One was cheaper, but unconvincing. Another refused to sell anything but Lennox despite stocking other brands. Manny offered the best combo of knowledge, planning, and quality equipment. Most important: I felt most comfortable with his credibility and integrity. I ask a lot of questions and proceed with some trepidation on big purchases. Dorothy and Manny went above and beyond here, including two calls totaling about 75 minutes. Thanks also for rolling with the clogged drain issue and delay during the install. Dorothy to the rescue! We got home from work and found our heat totally off and our house at 63 and getting colder. We were so worried about how our toddler would do overnight. After calling around and not finding anyone to come out, we were sure we were in for a night of crying and squirmy co-sleeping to keep our son warm. After getting a missed call from us, Dorothy called us back and walked us through the whole thing over the phone. We are pretty useless in the homeowner/home repair department (don't know the age of the furnace, the brand, how to open the panel...) and Dorothy was so nice and explained everything. We sent her a picture of what we were looking at, she walked us through checking the fuse, and ultimately solved the problem by helping us clear out the error code and find the source of the problem (low batteries in the thermostat, which still looked like it was working, but wasn't). We're so relieved, feel a little silly, but mostly are so thankful that Dorothy cared enough to call us back and walk us through this while she was driving home from the mountains. Great company!!! My furnace stopped working on the first really cold day the year. I called Davey about 4:00 PM that day, knowing how late in the day it was and spoke with Dorothy. I asked to have a repairmen sent out, thinking it would be the next day. She asked a few questions about the HVAC system, age, etc. and said, "We can't get anyone out there today but we can probably fix the problem over the phone." After assuring me that if we couldn't, she would send someone the next morning, she spent over half an hour walking me through a few checks and procedures and we got the system up and running. Last year I went through Davey's in order to replace our furnace, and they did such a kickass job that they were my first choice for who should help us replace our air conditioning (which we've been needing to get replaced for quite awhile at this point)! As I mentioned in my previous review, my boyfriend and I bought our house just a year and a half ago, and were first time home owners, so when it comes to dealing with anything in the house beyond decorating the rooms () we're both completely lost. So we've both been dealing with our lack of AC as best we can ever since we purchased this house, with plug in fans in basically every room, however after doing the math on our electricity bill we realized not only were we probably spending more money running the plug in fans 24/7, and in the end those fans weren't making much of a difference anyways in how comfortable we were temperature-wise in the house (aka spending every night tossing and turning because our bedroom was always a tad too hot). So I couldn't be more happy that we finallyyy called Davey's and had our hvac replaced, and my only complaint is that I seriously didn't called them sooner, because now our house finally feels actually comfortable to be in, no matter how hot it is outside! I know that may sound "cheesy," but to go from constantly sweating through your bedsheets, to being able to sleep through the night because of the cool temperature in your bedroom, is beyond amazing! Plus I'd also like to mention that as a woman, I totally recommend the employees here. There have been times when we've hired people to come over to work on something during the day, and my boyfriend is gone at work all day, while I personally work from home, so usually I'm alone in the house all day, and there have been times some people we've hired have made me a tad uncomfortable.
