I'd like to start with the ambiance. I think that Mamma Maria is nestled in the best, most quaint spot of North End. The food in the service were also incredible. I would say our highlight dish was the lamb three ways. We just wish they gave us more food as the portions were very small at times. They really made us feel special on our first wedding anniversary. A great spot to visit for a special occasion.

My issue was not the policy, but how it was handled. We walked in carrying a Mike's Pastry box in plain sight, placed it on the table, and ordered two amaros and a Coke. The waiter greeted us, saw the box, and never mentioned the policy. We then opened it and began sharing a cannoli with our 3 year old son while staff could clearly see us. A few minutes later, a large group walked in. I heard the person who appeared to be the manager or owner comment to the staff that we were "three people for two tables and only two amaros." Shortly afterward, our waiter was instructed to tell us we could not eat the cannoli. Had someone simply told us when we arrived that outside food was not allowed, we would have gladly put it away or gone somewhere else. Instead, nothing was said until after we had ordered and our son had already started eating. The staff later explained that this happens frequently because Mike's is directly across the street. If that is the case, communicating the policy when customers arrive carrying outside food seems like a simple solution. The policy is completely reasonable. The communication and customer service were disappointing.

Did you ever see the episode of Seinfield with the Soup Nazi? Well, if you go to the 8/10 and sit at the bar, you may get waited on by him. Customer beware. Sit in the dining room to be safe and depending on who is in the kitchen you MIGHT get what you ordered. The food is very good but it comes out wrong a lot. We enjoy the food but its almost not worth the wait if its wrong. We wont be back, between dealing with wrong orders and the rudeness, poor service, there are so many good places to eat around here. Oh my, both were cooked perfectly tender and topped with their delicious sauce. I opted for the homemade fusilli pasta option with my veal entree. The pasta was cooked al dente, perfect. I could go into much more detail regarding how tender my veal was or how Plus 1's bolognese was one of the best I ever experienced, but to summarize everything on the menu is 5-star old-school Italian.

I understand given the location the prices are to scale but not to this extent where our drinks were only a few small sips. I had such high expectations of this new waterfront eatery. And I still do. Hoping they make the necessary changes and execute better in the future. I'm certainly rooting for them.
