This review is overdue by a year but since the storms are back, I want people to know how wonderful Erik and team at 7x7 are if you're in trouble -- they will fix it! I had severe internal flooding in my NEW TO ME house during the January 2023 storms. I could not figure out what was wrong but I knew I didn't want water pouring through my light fixtures on multiple floors when it rained! After being stood up by more than a few "top recommends" from Google, I landed on 7x7 by accident and sent a middle of the night, Hail Mary email--and had a response when I woke up. Every now and then you run across a business that provides truly spectacular service. Erik, and his team at 7x7, is one of those businesses. 7x7 replaced my steeply sloped front roof shingles. But, they advised me that I needed a new membrane underneath. Then they inspected the flat part of the roof, which was just redone with bitumen three years ago, and recommended silicon sealing that portion. Plus, Erik arrranged to fix an ugly rottted out vent fan fixture. While the scaffolding was up, I decided to repaint the front of the house. Erik and crew accomodated the painters. AND, Erik voluntarily inspected their work upon completion, pointing out improvements/fixes they needed to make. He even pointed out that I should call PG&E re the connection to my house, which is looking a bit dated. Now, fair warning. Get your wallet out. Excellence is not cheap. We called 7x7 when all roofers were super busy, got on a waiting list for their $585 inspection; most of the other "roofers" we called were either unlicensed (scammers) or did not know what they were talking about, it was sad and entertaining at the same time. We got a call from Erik earlier than expected, there was a space for an inspection and we moved forward, two inspectors came (Adam and Steve), they quickly browsed through our building and recorded valuable information. It was very pleasant and surprising to get some time with them after the inspection. We all sat down and spent about 15 minutes talking about every piece of information they have collected. This is the only roofing company we found from online research that we were completely satisfied with their roofing work from beginning to completion. We had water leaking into the back bedroom closet off and on for several years. Our ceiling and walls had eventually turned into a light brown color and we just had to finally address our leaking problem. We hired another local family-owned roofing company about 5 years ago to try and remedy the on-going leaking problem, but their work did not remedy it. We asked that same roofing company 3 separate times to come back, check their work, and figure out our leaking problem, but they only claimed that they did their work right and asked for us to stop calling them. We were frustrated because even our general contractor didn't know where the leaking was coming from either. Enter 7x7 Roofing (which also does business as EcoSmart/7x7 Roofing). After emailing them to request an appointment I learned that I had to wait 2 months before they could come out to inspect and do a thorough analysis of our leaking problem. It was hard to wait those 2 months, but it was worth it. Armand showed up with his scanning equipment and inspected our property thoroughly, inside and outside. He spent approximately 2 hours on site climbing up on the roof, inspecting every nook and cranny, and took pictures. Armand then took the time to sit with me afterwards to explain all of his findings and go through each picture he took. Needless to say I was shocked to learn about the extent of water damage our property had. We had a 30 year old roof that was just 'bandaged' over the years and we had to replace it. It's not news you really want to hear, but it was reality and some hard decisions had to be made. I was charged a fee of $585 for the analysis, but that same fee was applied towards our roof work with them. We had 2 other roofers come to inspect our property before this appointment and they did not provide nearly the same information that Armand did with me that day. After scaffolding went up work began 2 days later with a large crew. After removing the old materials on our roof they discovered extensive dry rot throughout. They also found that the 3 satellite dishes that were installed on our roof years ago had caused some damage as well. Water had been leaking into our property from a number of areas in our roof. They replaced all of the dry rot wood with new wood, re-did the water drains, replaced our sky light, and completely sealed our roof. They took pictures of the work in progress and provided video. My advice is to take your time to review their website, learn why they operate the way they do, and schedule an inspection. We got excellent follow through and service from beginning to end. We recently purchased a home and initial inspection identified issues with the roof, we knew that the roof is older and we have to change it at some point in near future, we were also considering solar option and weren't sure about where to start. Most other roofers are difficult to contact, make you feel like they're doing you a favor to even call you back, show up late (or not at all) for inspections/meetings, etc. Living in the past, these guys. Efrat and his team are the future--from their use of drone technology in their detailed initial inspection process, to their incredibly responsive communications and efficiency in managing the construction process (no delays waiting for subcontractors/materials!), they are on top of everything. And they stand by their work. We had them replace our ancient, leaky, super-steep roof a couple years ago. Half of the other companies I managed to get out to look at it laughed, said they didn't have the ladders to handle it and were gone in 5 minutes. Efrat and his team said no problem, used the drone to inspect, presented us with a detailed bid, and started work 3 weeks later. Showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently, kept a very clean job site, were friendly and easy to deal with. A little pricier than the 2 other bids but absolutely worth it in the end. During the heavy rains this winter we started to get some leaking in the siding of our lightwell/back stairs. Had an impossible time getting contractors to assess it, most wouldn't even return calls. Desperate, we called Efrat for advice. And he was absolutely incredible: came out a few days later, used his drone again, identified clogged roof drains as the problem, recommended a plumber able to work on steep roofs (a rare commodity apparently). THEN--and this is what sets 7x7/Eco Smart apart--he proceeded to walk me around the rest of the house and point out several other issues created by the clogged drains/steep roof: cracking in the back vertical trim, dry rot in back stairs due to cheap flashing, a potential leak into our garage, etc. Recommended a detailed plan to fix all of it, which elements needed to be tackled first, when to get the scaffolding company out, the type of contractors we needed, what each piece should cost, how to manage the whole process. 7x7 is a really excellent team to work with. We received 3 quotes for our flat roofing job plus lightwell. 7x7 was the best of the three to work with by far. Here are my highlights: Their inspection is well worth the money and I highly recommend it. I was also skeptical of paying for an inspection but you get what you pay for - a detailed outline of the wet parts of your house and an honest assessment of what needs to be fixed. They move VERY quickly and deliver a very high level of service. They even helped me work with a neighbor whom I totally forgot to tell ahead of time. Communication is top notch. We had a group text going during the project and they responded to texts and emails all the time. The best part about working with 7x7 is they accepted our desire to beautify our lightwell with plants even though it's not ideal from a roof integrity perspective. Extremely positive experience dealing with this contractor as they are part of Eco Smart network (I used inspection service through Eco Smart and my friend replaced a roof with them). They were not the first ones I called and I saw some unprofessional individuals and unethical folks coming to my house. I believe this is the time when roofers are in high demand and there are already scammy structures in place copying websites of known roofing contractors and presenting themselves as general contractors. I learned that checking licenses helps in choosing contractor who is right for me. I used Contractors State License Board website, make sure they are insured, bonded and the person pretending to be the contractor. I did my due diligence and out of 4 contractors who presented me with quotes by checking licenses and names of the folks I filtered out 3 quotes. Turns out 3 out of 4 people you call are fakes! Very happy with this contractor as they were straight forward and logical. They respect the client, property and neighborhood, as one of the superintendents once said - we build as if we were building for our family. We had a leak at our home and as time passed and many contractors stopped by - it was still a mystery. 7x7 was a blast to work with, once paid inspection was scheduled, they showed up as promised, very punctual and very respectful. These are terrific people working in an outstanding firm! Called them because we had a leak and weren't sure what to do. Many contractors stopped by and didn't have much to say, our roof is very high and none of the contractors wanted to climb it. We had one contractor show up with a long ladder and as he was setting it up he broke our window, he promised to come back with a window guy to fix it but we never heard of him again, we checked his yelp page and tried to find his license but with no luck. We were very skeptical about paying for an estimate with 7x7 but when we were done dealing with amateurs presenting them as contractors we called 7x7 back and set up our paid inspection. Crew of two arrived exactly at the time promised on inspection day, they moisture mapped our building and inspected the exterior, on 15th minims of the inspection Erast told us that our roof drains were clogged and asked us if we want the plumber to come out to clean them right away, we were surprised and gave the green light for needed service, plumber was there within 20 minutes and our drains were cleaned, interestingly enough that was the only service we needed, inspection wrapped up quickly (our house is new, built in 2016), our inspection rate was discounted and we already passed through rains with no leaks. These folks are honest, fast and efficient, we were ready for costly repairs when called 7x7 but ended up with a quality report and maintenance that we actually needed. We had someone else come out and inspect our 10 year old roof, they said that we are experiencing the leak because of the need for replacement, we were already in contract when I decided to get a second opinion from 7x7. Got the recommendation to go with this roofing contractor from my inspection agency. 7x7 is part of eco smart, this whole branding issue was a little confusing to me at first but later as I talked to owners I realized that 7x7 has been acquired by eco smart about a year ago. In general we got the best service possible and 7x7 did a fabulous job inspecting our property as a first step to evaluation - we felt weird paying $600 for an inspection?? Just wanted to get a free bid but dealing with other free estimates proved that there are no free estimates, everyone tried selling us something we did not need and the initial inspection by 7x7 made all the difference, everything was clear and fused with real facts, not guesses. Our proposal was super detailed and included amount of damage with no hidden costs. We went with 7x7 for our roof repair, it's been two years and the roof stood up perfectly fine. 7x7 Roofing is a great company, I'm sure they were great before but after joining forces with Eco Smart few years back they got even better. We originally contacted 7x7 Roofing two years ago and got a bid for a repair from them, back then it was much simpler to get a free estimate and our estimate took only 8 minutes, we originally got a repair quote to install another layer over existing asphalt shingle roof and few patches on flat section of our roofing system, we unfortunately did not choose 7x7 Roofing back then, what we did instead is hired the lowest bidder which was a critical mistake, we spent thousands of dollars on a patch that simply did not last, one and a half years later it leaked again, we started tracking down the contractor and slowly discovered that it was some guy using his buddy's license and the license was expired and the permits were never pulled, later after a long conversation with a building department inspector we found out that our house has ann active complaint for unpermitted work filed around two years ago. We now have to pay hundreds of dollars just to get rid of the violation. Now we were upset and we decided to start the search for the contractor worth it's salt, 7x7 Roofing quickly showed up along with Eco Smart Roofing, we called both of them and left an email, in two days we get the reply from 7x7 saying that they are now part of the Eco Smart group and because we already contacted them few years back they will be the ones working with us on this project. We spoke with Erik who was a pleasure to talk to, response rate was fabulous (better than 2 years ago for sure), we basically had all of our questions answered the same day or the next. We shortly realized that Eco Smart Group charges for the inspections and were not too happy about that given that we just spent thousands on an unnecessary work and violations caused by the previous "contractor", 7x7 were very understanding and they did wave the $585 inspection fee due to our struggles and the fact that we did contact them two years ago. Inspection was scheduled and we patiently waited for 4 weeks, it's definitely a busy time for these guys, with storms coming in fast people in SF are anxious to get the waterproofing done fast. On the day of the inspection we were home, i saw guys pull up 25 minutes before inspection and reserve a spot close to our building, I wasn't sure if it was 7x7 but watched them from the window as I had nothing better to do that day. A minute before the scheduled appointment two guys show up at our door, they were dressed appropriately with their sleeves up - I roll my sleeves up all the time and I know it's a sign of someone organized and hard working, inspection started, Dima (mapper) was moisture mapping the interior of our building while the air moisture meter was set up in the kitchen, every foot of my house, all around the windows and door openings, everything got checked while the Erik (senior inspector) started documenting the condition of our exterior, starting from the front and continuing all around the building, this process took more than an hour in our case, once exterior and interior condition was documented the roofing inspection started, guys were on the roof for about 20 minutes, we saw them use other measuring systems that we were not aware of, was a pleasure to watch and as I compare it to 7x7's inspection free two years ago I understand that it's like comparing a used Honda S-2000 to the latest Audi R8. Night and day! Even if we did pay the $585 for this inspection, it would be worth every penny. Report came in few days later, we were fascinated at the amount of information and picture quality of the report, it was technical and simple to understand at the same time, report had 8 different sections and everything was illustrated in HD, these guys were pros, this was evident and half way through reading we already knew that these guys are our roofers even though they don't know it yet. Installation of roof and solar stantions was supposed to take 5 days at the most but 7x7 shined here too, since Lumimalt and Eco Smart work closely together, they were able to sync in a way that each company knew the progress of the other every hour of the day, Monday demolition started and by Tuesday morning we already had structural plywood and Simpson hangers installed, the side that needs to have solar stantions installed was intentionally covered by underlayment first so Luminalt could work on it on Tuesday morning while 7x7 is working on another side, it was like watching an orchestra play, it was all synched by a superintendent on site who did not do anything physical but documented every step of the project, guided delivery trucks in and out and made sure pedestrians are safe and the site is cleaned, I could talk about 7x7 and Eco Smart for hours but we are very, very pleased with them. read more

I was looking for a contractor that would be able to identify a leak in our building and successfully repair it, the search started online as I searched the web for someone reputable, stumbled upon few folks that were available for a free estimate but something just didn't sound right in the process of communication and final issue resolution, they were pushing me towards a full replacement of the roof where I was confident that there is still some time left on it as it's only 14 years old. I decided to pay for the inspection with 7x7 Roofing (they are part of Eco Smart SF), now I was scriptural at first about paying this much for an estimate but I'm glad I did. Inspection report came complete with detailed evaluation, high end marked photos and inspector recommendations. Proposal was for a roof repair and some exterior siding work (expected). I checked Contractors State License Board's website and 7x7 / Eco Smart is licensed in B General Contractor and C39 Roofing trades, I checked their insurance, liability and workmen compensation insurance and it all checked out. These guys are legit and insured. Contracted with this firm and had the replacement start and finish on days promised, they stayed within budget and there were no hidden fees. We got some pleasant surprises from this deal and communication was easy and effortless. Highly recommend this firm. read more
