We enjoyed our small plates and supper. The Schnitzel wasn't as good as the first time I had it there, it was dry and paper-thin, and it was smothered in a sauteed kale side. Service could be better, we were sitting with empty drinks between orders, and our server didn't seem to notice the empty glasses. I think for an upscale (read: pricey) place, the staff could use a little dress code leveling up. Young women in distressed cut-offs and crop top, one in sweatpant shorts and a T shirt, the male food runner in a Tshirt and board shorts, nothing cohesive to even identify who was staff. Awkward menu that we couldn't quite figure out. The mains and sides don't compliment each other at all. Service was good and it is a beautiful restaurant. We got the steak, salmon and the surf and turf and all were fine or below that measure. The surf was presented as lobster mashed potatoes which my son did not enjoy and was an example of the klunky menu. There are not a ton of options for upscale meals in Lawrence but I would recommend getting a cocktail here and then moving on. read more

we made a reservation weeks ago for our anniversary and were really looking forward to dinner promptly sat and greeted by our server. we ordered the goat cheese croquettes and they did not disappoint. the maple bourbon cocktail was so good. he ordered the fillet sliders and he said they were tough and flavorless. I ordered the chicken parm which was just ok. the real winner was the chai ice cream dessert. It made the best thing I've ever tasted. Wow! This restaurant has everything we asked for and then some!!! Emma was our server, she was friendly, knew about the menu, and accommodate me swapping out our wine bottle selection (which I truly appreciative). Food: the menu has many choices for almost everyone. We had the lamb lollipops, bone in filet, grilled octopus, meatballs, and crab ravioli. Every dish was equally delicious. It was a lot of food and the flavors was right on point! The cocktails were yummy as well. We got lucky with the weather and able to score a table outside. Honestly, it feels like we're in a different zip code, and not in Kansas! From the lighting to set the mood, to the heaters to keep us warm, I truly appreciate such a wonderful place. Service was fine. Ambience is good - its a nicely furnished, but cramped space. The ambient volume is upwards of 90dB (loud). However, the mediocre food is what drives my two star rating. The grilled lamb was okay, but the lasagna was 90% pasta noodles and severely lacking in flavor. If we wanted a lively place to drink and food was secondary, our review would likely be more favorable. But we were there for the food, and left disappointed. read more

I am SO happy my boyfriend took me here for brunch! It's been on my list for quite awhile, as I've heard glowing things about this place! I can't wait to go back for lunch and dinner, but was so excited to try brunch as part of their holiday special. The space is gorgeous. As a KU grad I'm a fan of Mass St. and downtown Lawrence. Had the weather been a little nicer, we'd have opted to sit out on the patio. Inside is well lit and beautifully decorated. I'm a fan of the open shelving and overall look of the bar. We arrived shortly after opening, so it wasn't busy. A man (possibly the manager?) was very quick to greet and seat us. I ordered the nutella french toast. It was amazing - I loved the corn flake 'crust' - it was a perfect touch. My boyfriend has the biscuits and gravy with a sunny side egg on top. I tasted the gravy (so delish) and he said the combination with the egg was perfect. I had a pomegranate ginger ale too, and it was delightful - a great compliment to my food. Overall service wasn't bad, just nothing memorable. The food was as incredible as everyone said it would be, just not something our wallet would agree with, seeing as we're both students. 715 is LOUD! This is not a peaceful place to dine! We texted to communicate. The table of 8 diners next to us were yelling to talk! Besides that, our waitress was wonderful and the food really good, especially my husband's Goat Cheese and Mushroom Ravioli. It melted in the mouth with an herb-infused creaminess. He only wished bread came with the meal instead of an additional $7 so that he could enjoy all the sauce left over in his bowl. My steak salad was topped with perfectly cooked beef and mild, white, tender blue cheese. However, it was heavy on the vinegar, and made me cough. It desperately needed olive oil to balance the tang. The ambiance is beautiful with tiny votive candles everywhere and a post-modern vibe. And the bathroom had Meyers lemon verbena candles and a fresh bouquet of lambs ears and hydranga. Beautiful! 715 was recommended as the best stake house downtown. I got the filet with cauliflower. Cauliflower was great, cooked with bacon and sun dried tomatoes (cook anything with bacon and it'll be pretty good). The steak was over cooked unfortunately so that kind of soured the experience. The service was friendly and a cool atmosphere. Was pretty busy for a Wednesday night. Overall I think it was a little overpriced but not too badly. I would try the place again for sure. read more

I've been Facebook stalking 715 for a year or more. Their posts are always interesting, often funny and sometimes I wasn't sure the place was for real. It is. We were there right when they opened. We both had soup: cauliflower and I'm forgetting the other. It had meat and a green puree of some sort. They were good, not great, but not bad. Mine had some big pieces of may star anise or clove that I accidentally bit into which kind of threw off the taste because of the strong flavor. Mom ordered a pizza and I ordered Chicken Parmesan sandwich. They were both edible, but again, not great. It's hard to be critical because we had such a nice server and the place is so attractive. The food is definitely homemade, but we just didn't love it. My chicken was very thin and kind of cooked to death. The sauce on the pizza was distracting somehow, maybe the spice choices. What's weird is that I would DEFINITELY go back or recommend the place to someone even though we didn't really fall in love with our entrees. Sometimes you have to maybe try a couple of different things to find your match. For dessert we had pot de crème and some beignets. We really loved our desserts the most. read more

Locally and regionally sourced, handmade, seasonal and organic foods and a chef-driven menu make 715 one of my mandatory stops anytime I'm in Lawrence. The staff are always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and happy to give suggestions, in case you just can't decide which delicious item to choose. The portions are always quite generous for the price, especially considering the quality. The pastas are house made, the mains and meats are superior in flavor and quality, and the cocktails are top notch. The best ribeye I've ever eaten was here, and I'm the granddaughter of a Kansas beef farmer, do I've had a few steaks in my day (and this steak is monstrous-- enough to share between two or three normal eaters). Dessert is a must, even if you only have a few square inches of volume left in your stomach and must share. The selections rotate, but the house made donuts and sweet cream sauce that accompany them melt in your mouth. The patio is small, but in the right weather and if it's not already full, is a lovely place to enjoy the happenings of Mass Street throughout your meal. They do take reservations as well, so if you want to ensure a spot on busy weekend night during the KU school year without a long wait, that's a good bet. read more

There wasn't any open seating so they set up an extra special table for me outside. I ordered the Roasted Broccoli and it was simply amazing! 715 is the kind of high-level farm-to-table restaurant that could be in any big city, but we are lucky to have it in little ol' Lawrence. There have been multiple iterations of 715 since it opened several years ago because of different chefs at the helm, but the current chef has really raised it to another level. If you haven't been to 715 since before summer of 2018, it is time for you to go back. If you're going for the first time, you are in for a treat. We have enjoyed many an evening at 715; the drinks never disappoint, and the food is probably the best in town. Some of the menu has an Italian bent, with pastas and pizza. I feel like the pizza is a relic of the restaurant's original intent and in my opinion you can do much better with other menu choices. The pastas are always bang-on, particularly if there is a pasta special, and the proteins and their accompaniments are reliably scrummy. I know this is a buzz word and maybe not taken as serciously anymore, but 715 locally sources just about everything, and they do it with such care! The vegetables have knocked my socks off so many times. Here are my true favorite things at 715, though. First of all, I love the candles and the energetic vibe. It's loud, but not too crazy, and many of the tables are surprisingly intimate once you're sitting at them. The cauliflower soup is possibly my favorite soup ever -- and I am a huge soup connoisseur, so that means something. I even order it in the summer! The trout crostini appetizer is completely perfect. Vegetable sides are done with care and flair. Add one to your meal and share if you have to; you'll be impressed what the chef can do with them. Cocktails are all freshly crafted, and there is something for everyone. Also, the wine list is carefully vetted, and I have yet to have a clunker. They even have wine specials -- wine specials! Life is grand! -- and those are worth your time to investigate. Service is mostly fantastic. It is a rare time (maybe when the boss is gone?) that things do not flow smoothly and that you don't feel well looked-after. Extremely impressed with this location and what they have done to accommodate to our new 2020 lifestyle. All dining is outdoors in their front or back patio. There was no wait on a Tuesday evening for dinner. We were sat on the back patio and I am not sure if this patio was here precovid but boy they really did a great job with it! There were plenty of heaters and fire pits to keep everyone warm. We even were offered an additional heater when the staff could tell we were still a bit chilly. Oh and did I mention BLANKETS. I was offered a blanket for my lap and it was a game changer. Now lets get to the drinks...spiked cider with local Louisburg Apple cider. It came out hot and it was just that perfect addition to keep my warm. The menu was labeled by the date which leads me to believe the menu rotates. We delighted ourselves with the chroizo stuffed dates (to die for), crab ravioli and chicken with squash/Brussels sprouts. All staff was appropriately wearing masks. Once you get to your table your masks can be removed unless conversing with staff. If you need to use the restroom, you just have to pop your mask on! Was browsing through facebook and saw a peach sundae, that this restaurant makes. I took a chance and went to try it out. I ordered and ate at the bar. My aunt and sister joined me for this dessert! I went at 6pm and the staff covering the front bar were very friendly and attentive!! The only reason I went was to try this peach sundae and it was very good!! Peaches are out of season, so they used a peach glaze, but it was still good!! I will have to return in the summer to get the dessert with real peaches in it!! I will have to return and try a dish. We came here to celebrate my daughter's 25th Birthday . It was the perfect setting . It had magical candle lights and flowers on tables . We were there for happy hour with yummy Rosemary Focaccia , and a perfect sized charcuterie with a olive tapenade and prosciutto to start the nite off on festive vibe . The Birthday girl got the crab ravioli and it was the best cream sauce I've tasted !! It was worth the drive from Texas .. I had Spaghetti and Meatballs and it was delicious- the tomato sauce they use does not disappoint . I had a delightful margarita . Wish I could recall name of server - she was awesome as well . Any time I'm in Lawrence, I make it a point to visit at least one of my favorite spots, and this is one of them. Last time I went was during the holiday season and I was fortunate to come during happy hour, where they have a variety of offerings in food and drinks for lower prices. I was able to make a meal from 3 appetizer-size dishes, including a cocktail, for around $20. The menu changes, but I honestly don't remember not liking whatever I've ordered. During COVID, they have outdoor seating and the tables are all near a heater (many have their own that the server will start up), so you're not terribly cold sitting outside. After the spaced out tables were left, the bussers would come by quickly and clean / sanitize the table for the next party. I'm sure their location helps, but out of all the outdoor seating arrangements I've been to, this was hands down the best. Grateful that they're back open! read more

A little before noon, we went to ladybird diner. It was but a short 15 minute wait. As we waited, we glanced down at 715 and saw no line. No wait. We were tempted. We ventured down and were greeted with immediate seating. How could we say no? It would only be this one time. No one will know. We placed our order. Me- the breakfast croissant sandwich thingamajig. Him- biscuits and gravy topped with an egg over easy. My sandwich was good. Crispy bacon. Well-cooked egg. But an overly tough and chewy croissant. That's ok. No big deal. Immediate seating, right? I day dreamed of breakfast at Lady Bird and blushed. He wasn't eating. He was picking at his food. He was unhappy and dissatisfied with his breakfast offering from 715. But how? He loves biscuits and gravy. He gets biscuits and gravy all the time at La... A painful twinge prodded my unfaithful heart. "Talk to me." I pleaded. "What's wrong? You love biscuits and gravy." He offered me a bite. Oh that we could rewind time! Damn you unfaithful heart! The taste? Regret. Plus the biscuit was hard, chewy, and required a sledge hammer to get through. Oh 715, you're the place I'm still holding out for. I love the ambiance, style, and general vibe. However, the food consistently underwhelms me. There are a few bright spots on the menu, but too many misses. I went with some work colleagues for restaurant week. We had already had martinis next door, so we skipped wine and cocktails and went right to food. They ordered from the traditional menu (both seemed pretty happy with their respective pizzas), and I decided to do the special restaurant week menu. I started off with olives, pickled veggies, and chips (too burnt for my liking). The pear and Brie salad had potential, but fell flat. The star of my meal was the entree - seared salmon, al dente beans, and smoked mushroom. Great aromatics, but the smokiness was overpowering. My salmon was crispy, moist, and perfectly portioned. I was pleased, as this is the first time I've had appropriately cooked seafood at 715 (e.g., the shrimp are always overdone, which is unacceptable for the price point). The downfall of the meal was dessert. It looked like a store bought ladyfinger drizzled in chocolate. The chocolate and specks of anise were nice, but the cake itself was flavorless. My colleagues tried it and agreed it was disappointing. Even the people at the table next to us were unimpressed. Honestly, I've never had a good dessert here, so pastries aren't their thing. Other people have said their pasta dishes and sausages are good. Maybe I'll try that... It's one of those places I'll keep trying and hoping for something more. read more

So this is a nice little restaurant out in the middle of flyover country. I agree with what most others are saying about the food and atmosphere. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. It was overall a positive experience. If I am in the area again and on business travel (expense account) I would certainly come again. Like a few others have said, I am not sure the location/geography warrant the prices. So overall a very nice place to eat and enjoy a good conversation. I do want to address a larger issue. First let me offer a "get off my lawn" warning. I am not sure that Food Network or any other source of the 3,000 cooking shows that are now available to us 24/7 are a good thing. Everyone thinks they are a foodie and every hipster cook with too many tats and ironic facial hair thinks they are the next great chef. The dish I had on this particular occasion tasted fine ( a little overly long in the warming bin)- it was the "special" something like Chicken Almentine...(I guess part of the hipster cook foodie craze is the license to make up words. It was described as chicken breast with sausage and cheese, with herbs...etc. What came out looked like a naked hotpocket cut into three parts and the rest of the plate was one short, thin line of cold vegetable "debris" [green bean, other pickles, some kind of smear of corn polenta?] It tasted fine ( a little stiff from waiting for me all afternoon), I am glad I got a side order of partially burnt...excuse me blackened Brussel sprouts (with prune/peanuts/bacon). I would have been hungry otherwise for $30, no alcohol. Eventually I think we will go into our local Popeye's and get a 3-peice "DE-constructed" meal. read more

My boyfriend took me here for the first time for a Valentine's date. I knew it was fancy but didn't know what to expect. The food was excellent! We got the caviar and steak tartare for an appetizer, which was the best choice. My boyfriend and I agree to come back just for those two dishes alone. My main was the prosciutto and burrata, which was very delicious too. It does come with olives on top so if you don't like that flavor I wouldn't recommend this dish. The only issue was it was very crowded in there, a smaller space than expected. We were sitting against a wall towards the back, so right next to the passing waiters to the kitchen. Holy gnocchi!! 715 is a small trendy bistro with a clean open space. The menu is innovative without being snobby or unapproachable. I dined there with a group and was able to sample a variety of dishes.
