Pluses and Minuses. Atmosphere great! Nice view of the lake and boats on Tonka. Starting with the Appetizers. Crab and Lobster Cakes are not worth the money! They're description is very deceiving. They state they're made with Alaskan King Crab and Lobster. That may be true, but good luck finding any of the seafood. They were full of multiple fillers, very thin and somewhat greasy from being so thin and the fillers soaking up the oil. Not at all worth the $17. I won't proclaim to be a chef, but I will proclaim to travel a lot and try a lot of nice food. Little changes here could make big difference starting with larger clumps of crab and lobster and less fillers. Waitress was great when we provided her feedback and removed them from the check with no issues. That I very much appreciated. Chicken Wings were one of the best apps. Yeah, Chicken Wings. The breading was salty, but very, very good. Loved the dry rub seasoning. Double Dip Fries were very good. Lukewarm when they arrived. Sauce was outstanding! As for the main course, we tried a few things. Starting with the Seared Jumbo Scallops. The flavor was great from the nice sear on top of the scallop, however, I was very disappointed with the size. They state on the menu that they're, "Jumbo". I suspect they cut them in half. I've had a lot of fresh scallops, but these were very thin. Again, another menu item not worth the money. I don't mind spending $35 on a dish if I feel they're not cutting corners. There were four total scallops, but in reality, there were only two jumbo scallops. This dish they cut corners in lieu of profits. We also ordered the marinated flank steak. Good flavors here, but lacked the grill flavor I like in a flank steak. They also had a Filet Mignon special which was a reserve cut and 12 oz.. The waitress explained it as a cut with more marbling. The Filet was certainly one of the highlights of the meal. Good flavor, definitely had the marbling melt into the meat, but my only negative, similar to the flank steak, is that it lacked that grill flavor. It was more of a seared flavor that even lacked the broiling. I've had nice steaks in steakhouses before that had that grill flavor from the char. This steak lacked that, but overall, great cut of meat as described. At $70 though, I think you're better off spending that $70 on two other main courses on the menu and you'll be just as happy or happier. Lastly were the Wedge Salads. I know it's like I'm finding something wrong in each dish and for the most part, we all did. With the Wedge, the blue cheese dressing which really makes the Wedge a Wedge was okay. The waitress claimed the dressing was homemade, I'd say probably not, but maybe the sous had an off night. Who knows. It was very loose so to speak. It wasn't creamy, but more watery. And last, but certainly not least, the drinks. I was very impressed at their cork fee which is only $15 per bottle. I commend restaurants that are open to having you bring your own bottle. The wine menu is nice, but with a $15 cork fee, it's worth bringing a nice bottle or two of wine if you're a wine snob like me. After we finished our second bottle we brought, we ordered a 2013 MacPhail Pinot Noir. At $80 I can't complain. It was reasonable for a wine menu that lacked single vineyard options. Overall, this probably will not be our first stop for dinner again. Too many other options in the area, but certainly for a drink or two before dinner with those chicken wings! read more
