Decided to check out Kitchen and Rail in Golden Valley, and overall, it has a stylish, upscale-casual vibe. They recently opened this second location in February, and we were excited to try some of their new seasonal spring menu items. The creamy asparagus pesto pasta was a standout--absolutely delicious. The bucatini was cooked perfectly and the sauce tasted fresh and flavorful. My only note is that I wish it had been served a bit warmer. We also tried the taco flight, which included hot honey ginger chicken with mango pico, lamb with cucumber verde salsa, and beef barbacoa with rojas and cilantro. Unfortunately, this was underwhelming. The tacos lacked flavor and didn't quite live up to expectations. For dessert, I was really looking forward to the "better than sex" cake, but it missed the mark for me. The cream topping had a strong espresso flavor, and since I'm not a fan of coffee, it wasn't enjoyable. For drinks, I had the "Toes in the Sand" mocktail (aperol, almond orgeat, pineapple, and lime). It was fresh and light, but I wish it had a bit more sweetness. The "Pink Buffalo" (ginger syrup, grenadine, lemon) was better--nicely balanced between tart and sweet. It was pretty busy when we arrived, so we ended up sitting at the bar, which we didn't mind. However, the service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender seemed a little frazzled and wasn't very attentive to us, yet was noticeably more engaged and friendly to the couple seated next to us. It wasn't a huge issue, but more consistency in service would have made the experience better. Overall, a mixed experience--great pasta, but some dishes and service could use improvement.

This place is always so busy when we drive by. You smell how delicious everything is when you're outside . Finally stopped by and it wasn't busy for lunch. The service is A plus, people are so nice and our drinks were never empty. The decor is so cute! You can keep looking around and theres so much to see. The food was what it smelled like and I can't wait to come back. At least for lunch prices it's worth it. I would say that if you want to get dinner call and make reservations. I overheard the hostess telling someone that they could not fit their large party that night.

We were very pleased to see the old Mort's Deli spot under construction at last. I was not familiar with Kitchen & Rail but did some online sleuthing and found this was a second location for them! High hopes. We stopped in for dinner the other night and overall liked it. It's a nice addition to the neighborhood, and we are just dying for more restaurants. We will definitely be back. Those who were familiar with Mort's may find it a bit disorienting when walking into Kitchen & Rail. They really did a full overhaul of the inside, building a beautiful curved bar, lining the shelves above the bar with about 30 kinds of whisky (yay!). The inside design features dark wood and floral patterns. It's the type of design I've seen at other restaurants (Pink Ivy in Hopkins comes to mind) but it is very classy and well done at Kitchen & Rail. A cool, chill relaxed vibe. It would be a great spot for a happy hour, a date or just a drink and a bite at the bar. We honestly had trouble deciding what to order. We loved that they have a pastrami sandwich called the Mort. I'm big on honoring history so that was a big tick for me. We ordered the grilled asparagus with hollandaise (on the seasonal menu), the cauliflower "burnt ends," I got the chicken picatta and he got the butter chicken. -The asparagus was beautuflly cooked - positively perfect. The hollandaise was good, but it wasn't really hot. It was kind of just gloopy in a ramekin. More the consistency of mayo than a sauce. But tasty. -The burnt ends were good and barbecue-y. -My chicken picatta was pretty tasty. I was kind of surprised that you only got one small piece of chicken and a big bowl of pastsa. But it was lemony and pretty tasty. I did notice that all of the capers in the dish had all like exploded and were mushy and spilling out of their shell or whatever it's called. I guessed that they added them early in the dish preparation and they just popped with all the heat. My only complaint about the dish. -Hubby said the butter chicken was good but he wanted an additional piece of naan. -My cocktail was fine. I was somewhat surprised to see they charged $5 for an arnold palmer, but whatever. Service was ... OK. A little slow and stilted sometimes but overall got the job done fairly proficiently. We'll be back.

The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the aesthetic of the place is a total 10/10. I could sit in this bar forever feeling like it's the cutest place on earth. Their dish ware is adorable and none of it matches and the vibe is so chic. I had the burger and the grease level was on point. Definitely a filling portion meal. Think smash burger vibes but a thicker waygu double patty on a fresh bun. It was delicious! My husband had the chicken sliders and the spice level was too much for me but right up his alley. I love that you can order multiple sliders to taste different ones and get a variety. We shared the fried pickles which were very good and crispy. I always hesitate ordering fried pickles at places bc nothing compares to the state fair IFYKYK but these were worth it. Aperol spritz - healthy pour Espresso martini - surprisingly good, so different from any I've tried so I was a little hesitant but it was very good and I'll definitely have it again. We went right around 11 for lunch on a Friday and as we were leaving it was starting to fill up pretty fast. Hoping this place performs well, it's a perfect date night for us, close by with good vibes. Only complaints are the prices, example: $10 for a draft Kona is a little steep IMO.

The mort- smoky and FILLED with meat!

The hype on this place has been really awesome and I knew I needed to give them a try! So for date night I made reservations. I would highly recommend making the reservation! This is not an overly large establishment. There is plenty of free parking! Walk right up to the red door and be transported into a beautiful and unique decor set! The hostess was so lovely! We were seated right away and the waitress came fairly quickly with waters to start. My boyfriend got a beer on tap and I got a cosmo. Light, refreshing and the perfect way to start! We then got the truffle fries! Holy moly, these are some of the best ones in the twin cities for sure!! For dinner I got the famous filet mignon sandwich. I ordered it medium and it was mostly medium with some parts being well done. With that being said, it was tender. I would love to have had a little more flavor from the meat. My boyfriend got the Mort and it was stacked high with Smokey meat! He was a big fan!! We couldn't settle on just one dessert so we got the better than sex cake and the cherry kissed chocolate decadence. Both of them were phenomenal! I also got the espresso martini, which was very vodka forward. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me and I would not order it again. Overall this place was absolutely amazing and I would recommend it!

Checked out Kitchen and Rail for happy hour and it was a solid choice. The prices were actually really good for the quality of food you get. The lemon and dill in the chip dip was so good, and the sliders were actually juicy and not dry at all. My favorite was definitely that olive oil cheese dip thing, I'm not sure what it's called but it was amazing. Fried pickles were also pretty good. The vibe inside is cool and our server Lily was very sweet and made the experience even better. Definitely recommend.

I am so excited to have a new restaurant in this otherwise vacant space! I stupidly made a reservation for the Eagan location, but they were nice enough to accommodate us anyways. We came for lunch on a Saturday, and I was surprised to hear that their happy hour is honored on weekends as well! For drinks, we tried the Pink Buffalo and the Sherley's naught cousin. Both were actually similar, but one was made with tequila and one with vodka. The decor is very moody (in a good way) and very cozy. For food we tried the happy hour cheeseburger, wings, cauliflower and the Joe's burger. All but the wings were good, and would order again. The wings were hard to eat because there wasn't much meat on them. The lunch menu is fairly limited to burgers, sandwiches, and soup. I look forward to coming back for dinner to try more of their offerings.

What a great addition to Golden Valley Stopped by the bar on opening week, was mid busy, the bar has a great view of the kitchen and the cooks preparing food I was excited to try their espresso martini as I've heard it's pretty good but unfortunately they ran out of cold foam and tried to substitute it with heavy cream- which was not good at all but the bartender was awesome and switched the drink out for a really tasty Cosmopolitan The truffle fries were 10/10 they come with a bernaise sauce perfect appetizer The happy hour menu looks great- all the staff we encountered were super friendly and I can't wait to come back and try more items As it was opening week they had run out of a few menu items but I'm sure in a month things will run better ! The service here was great and that's why I'll be back

    Sliders
    Chelly G.

Staff was friendly and the decor was cute. The fried pickles were good. The pork sliders had plenty of meat but lacked flavor. The wings were huge and tasty. The Aperol spritz was just okay, but the margarita was good. The tacos in the taco flight were generously sized, though overall just average.

Better than sex cake (sex still better)

Awesome new spot in golden valley! Have done both lunch and dinner so pictures are across both as it is different menus. For lunch the ahi tuna bowl was good (light and fresh), however the filet sandwich was amazing! Dinner I loved the salmon and the pasta with meatballs. We tried the better than sex cake but wasn't my favorite. Super cute spot and can make reservations online which is nice. Service great and food comes out quick which is really nice. Got greeted by the owner Victor at dinner which was a thoughtful personal touch as the restaurant is still new! Will definitely be back

    Pork Belly

Market & Rail was a mixed bag, but there's a lot to like. The onion rings were exceptional--perfectly fried with great fried chicken flavor. The mix-and-match sliders were a hit, especially the pork belly and chicken option. The Vietnamese pork belly with jasmine rice was excellent and well portioned. On the flip side, the "Whole Damn Chicken Wings" felt like a bad industry joke--just two mediocre wings served on a large pan. Overpriced and underwhelming. There are also some odd menu notes, like charging for ketchup, which adds to a bit of a disconnect--similar to the wings situation. The bar is a strong point, with great craft beers, creative cocktails, and even cask wine options. The space has cool decor and an eclectic, fun menu, but the noise level can get intense with the concrete and high ceilings. Overall: good food in spots, some misses, and a lively atmosphere--just a few tweaks away from being great.

    Finer sliders with root veggies

Just tried the new location of Kitchen and Rail! Everything we had was super yummy! We started with the smoked salmon dip that came with ritz crackers. This was good, but small. We tried their Joe Mac Burger, two patties on a sesame bun with a yummy truffle butter sauce! This was a pretty good burger. We also had the filet sliders! These were awesome! They did come with a lot of béarnaise sauce. If you're not a sauce person get it on the side. Our sides were fries, broccolini, and root vegetables, all pretty solid. Broccolini did need some salt and pepper. For dessert with had the better than sex cake, this was so delicious. Very moist cake with Carmel and chocolate and had a coffee whipped cream on top. Parking was challenging as it is in a populated area, but it was not too terrible. The inside is surprisingly small but had a huge charm to it! Bar is in the middle with an open kitchen view behind it. The service was great! I definitely will be going back!
