    Scallops!

Went to celebrate my father's birthday at Baja Haus last night! It's a Mexican restaurant with ocean style. The staff were so nice and professional, with great recommendations and phenomenal food! My dad loved, and so did the rest of the family! I had the scallops, which were delicious with pork belly and mushroom/Mexican corn roulade. Delish!

This restaurant is right by the lake. Prime location near the other restaurants we've dine at. Looks like they had a beach theme, with wood and pictures of the ocean. We chose the restaurant week option. Their guacamole was good and steak was delicious. It had some spicy sauce on top. We couldn't even eat the dessert but took them home. Service was great, our waitress checked in on us often.

We had heard about how great this place was and as a lover of Mexican it was game on. The decor and layout are very cool. The food, both temp and taste were disappointing. Flavorful meats and hot food were not a part of our journey that night and for Wayzata and a meal for 5 that is 125 for burritos and tacos we expect better. I would rank it lower but other yelp friends swear by it ....

I had been wanting to go here forever & finally made the visit! What a cute and bright spot in Wayzata! The inside was actually a lot bigger than I imagined. We sat at the bar & actually had the owner as a bartender. He was super nice & informative. We got the Tequila Miso Wings first which were really yummy! They are baked & then fried & so delish!!! I wouldn't mind a little more meat, but they were super juicy! Sweet corn- this was tasty - it's made with Grilled corn, cotija cheese, mayo, traditional seasoning. It was nicely seasoned and I'd get it again. Brussel sprouts- Buffalo style, with cotija cheese, xoxo sauce & tortilla chips. These were unique and fun! Tacos- I got the Chicken Tinga & the bf got the Grilled fish. The chicken was nice, but I'd like if the tortilla was grilled. It was cold which gave a dry effect. They came with sides of rice & beans which were both good! Tres Leches- omg this was soft and moist. So delish!

    Chicken Mole Enchiladas

I've been wanting to come here since they opened. Loved the vibes and cocktails (margarita and matador both good), chips and queso/guac/salsa were ok. (Queso and salsa both very mild. Guac light on lime.) Biggest disappointment was the mole enchiladas. I'm a HUGE mole fan and had high hopes, but the mole was the wrong consistency (a thick paste instead of a sauce), didn't have much flavor and there wasn't enough of it to keep the chicken from being dry. Artfully presented but needs some more attention to the basics. I would come back and try some other dishes.

Baja house is the perfect place for good Mexican food and a good vibe. It knocks any typical Mexican restaurant out of the water in terms of food, service, and ambiance. I'd definitely try to be there for happy hour to get the yuca fries and cheese curds. Our server was also great but I didn't catch his name otherwise I'd definitely give him a shoutout.

    Niman Ranch Ribeye
    Kayer V.

Went here for Restaurant Week Feb 2022. My sister raves about their Niman Ranch Ribeye that she can't get off her mind. We decided with a condensed menu we can try all the favorites. My husband had the Niman Ranch Ribeye and I had the Divers Scallops. I got to taste a little from everyone's dishes as well. It came as a 3 course meal, I had the Caesar Salad which had the perfect amount of dressing, and not overpowering. My husband had the ceviche which was sour and sweet. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked and it melted in my mouth. I'd recommend eating and dipping it with all the sauces on your plate. The scallops were sweet and savory. My type of seafood. I can't wait to go back

Phone never eats first here. My first experience was incredible, my second was a bit off but understandably since you never get that good of a thing twice. The corn as always met up to expectations, however the service lacked. For your top experience, I highly recommend sitting inside where a waiter will regularly check in. We had a long wait even though it wasn't a busy night, but otherwise the food was pretty dang good and I'd still return out of respect for that. Tacos are always the way to go and don't forget a marg.

We also shared the Caesar salad. For our entrées, we had the roast chicken and the beef tenderloin, both of which were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert, but the Bananas Foster our neighboring table was enjoying looked spectacular. Perhaps next time I'll save room. The only downside is that it does get quite loud as the restaurant gets busy. On my next trip to the Minneapolis area, I'll certainly be back.

We were seated promptly, and our server was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable when offering menu recommendations. Throughout the meal, service remained efficient and attentive despite the restaurant being quite busy. We started with the lobster guacamole, which was outstanding and packed with flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the lobster roll, and it did not disappoint. The lobster was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned, while the toasted roll complemented it perfectly. It's easily one of the better lobster rolls I've had and was a highlight of the meal. Other dishes at our table included wings, flatbread, and the cauliflower dip, all of which were excellent. Portions were generous across the board, especially the apple crisp, which was large enough to share and a great way to finish the meal. What truly sets this place apart is the atmosphere. The restaurant buzzes with activity, creating a vibrant setting where friends and families can gather, socialize, and unwind. Between the lake views, beautiful décor, and lively crowd, it has an energy that makes you want to linger and enjoy the experience. The pricing felt reasonable for the quality of the food, service, and overall setting. With delicious food, attentive service, and one of the most inviting atmospheres around, this is a place I would gladly return to and highly recommend for lunch, dinner, or special occasions.

It's extremely noisy, and the tables are very close together. We had to listen to a little boy watching cartoons on his phone the entire evening, which was NOT what I was planning for our 25th anniversary dinner. Touching on our anniversary, I called and made a reservation 3 weeks prior and begged the host on the phone to put us in a quiet corner, not in the middle of the room. I had very special plans and was going to present my wife with a beautiful new diamond ring to replace the one she got 15 years ago on our 10th. When we arrived, we were placed at a very small table right smack in the middle of the room!!! I asked the host when she tried to seat us if she could please put us in the corner table, which was vacant, and was told no, this is the best table we can give you. I was NOT HAPPY!!! Completely ruined every plan I had. We worked through the table location and made the best of what we were given. The waiter was very polite and professional and took very good care of us. The food was delicious and despite the table location, it was an awesome evening. I will say this to anybody reading... do NOT go here if you're looking for a quiet romantic evening. It's not the place. Otherwise... 100% recommended!!!!

The most uncomfortable thing is finding a place to park. If you can't find a spot in the lot, tracking down a street spot that isn't only 1 hour can be a challenge or a bit of a walk. We started with cocktails and Bread is Life appetizer (5/5). Bread is indeed life. We needed two baguettes to eat the three butters/sauces. The whipped ricotta and honey was my favorite, but the chimichurri was a close second. For entrees we split the Beet and Watermelon King Salmon Salad (3/5), A Fat Burger (5/5), Chilled Lobster Roll (4/5), and the Spicy Lobster Mac and Cheese (5/5). The salad was good, but the salmon didn't have enough seasoning for me. It's also more of a traditional watermelon salad vs lettuce salad. The lobster roll was good, but of course mostly bread. It was a hardy sandwich and filled more than other restaurants. The burger was in fact fat, cheesy and juicy. The sandwiches come with hand cut fries (5/5) and an aioli. While the Mac and cheese says it's spicy, it's more of a Minnesota spice. It's a shareable portion, but no more than 3 people if they have other food. For dessert we ordered the Mud Moon Pie (4/5). When they say it's served with a knife they mean it. The portion size is huge! Like 6-12 people could eat on it. We ended up sharing with the table next to us. We were warned it was shareable, but I wish there would have been a smaller portion option to select. We felt so wasteful not being able to eat even half of it. We loved our server. We never felt rushed, our water glasses were never empty and she split the bill with our individual dishes and then split the shared items (I love when they do this vs giving us one bill). While the prices are a little high, the portion sizes and quality of food make it worth it.

Very close to the lake(walking distance) There is a free parking ramp right behind the building. The decor of this place is cute! The details seem like they were well thought out! It feels upscale and cozy! I saw a video of this place and that was what originally drew me in! The seating here is also comfortable and not over crowded. Our server was ok. I saw so many raves about the "amazing service." She did refill our water glasses, which was good because I needed it with the salty steak! Obviously the most important piece is the food. We started with the popovers. The taste was fine but the texture was almost over done. The honey butter was lacking honey flavor. Cinnamon would have really elevated the butter! I got the steak frites and my sister got the spaghetti. My fries were average. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium all the way through! I was impressed. However, it was drowning in a VERY salty sauce! I had push a lot of it off. This should be served on the side, not covering the whole steak. My sister got the spaghetti, which our waitress explained was not a regular spaghetti. I feel she has probably had to do that multiple times and honestly, it should just be renamed. It's confusing for the customer. My sister did say she enjoyed the dish and that the shrimp was ere done well. For dessert I got "Aunties iced latte" which is their version of like an espresso martini. It was just ok. Would not get again. We got the carrot cake which was good!! But then they ruined it by putting fake whipped cream.... This is supposed to be a higher end restaurant and that made the dessert feel so cheap. We also got the creme brûlée. DO NOT ORDER THAT! It is an absolute waste of money! The sugar top was so thick we couldn't eat it! The dessert had the consistency of scrambled eggs, not a smooth custard. The taste seemed ok, but whoever made this does not know what they are doing! Overall, the food was not memorable and a lot of it was done poorly. There are definitely better restaurants in the area.

It was not great. The problem? I think it was because owner/chef Rene Ruiz Olivar was acting as waiter, not chef. We gave Sr. Ruiz the freedom to choose our tapas, with one exception, the black ink pasta with scallops and shrimp (Tinta Negra) that reviewers have raved about. He said, no problema--he would serve it. Then he must have forgotten because we never got it. The first tapa served, almond-crusted manchego (Almendrado), was plated prettily and was delicious but oh-so-sweet. It was an odd choice for a starter, would have been better as the finale in case nobody ordered dessert. Soon came a lamb tapa (Cordero). The lamb chops' quality was uncertain as the meat was severely overcooked. El Bodegon's langoustines (Gambas al Ajillo) had given every bit of their sea flavor to the sauce, which was magnificent, we all agreed. But where were the dish's promised mussels, the rice? One shared plate, a beef tenderloin tapa (Carne Brava), had apparently lingered too long in the kitchen--the meat was nearly cold. I adore papas bravas (Patatas Bravas). I must have had the dish a dozen times or more during my last trip to Spain, in 2017, when I visited friends who live in Ronda. During my six-week stay, we toured Andalucia, staying at hotels in large cities and visiting small towns. I also spent time sola in Madrid and Barcelona. Unlike in Spain, El Bodegon's potatoes were diced to death. Never in Spain have I ever had patatas bravas that were not substantial in size. All in all, I found the vegetables accompanying the tapas unrecognizable except for the tiny Brussels sprouts. The rest seemed chopped up or stirred to pieces in the pan. Some of my friends had churros for their dessert. They deemed them appropriately hot and tasty. My dessert was cheesecake torte, decked out with a candle as it was my 90th birthday. The torte was a gold-star winner. It was absolutely delicious, its plating the most successful of the evening. It was so perfect it almost made up for the sub-par tapas that preceded it. One of us had a view of the kitchen from his seat at the table. He saw a man other than the chef/owner doing the cooking. Was he a trainee? Did Sr. Ruiz help with the plating? God knows he didn't have a lot patrons to contend with in his role as waiter. It was a slow weeknight, and there were never more than four tables occupied. I sincerely regret that our time at El Bodegon differs from so many reviewers. Like them, I want to see Sr. Ruiz's little restaurant succeed. He has a hard row to hoe, and I hope a disappointing dinner like ours does not befall anyone else going forward.
