This restaurant is right by the lake. Prime location near the other restaurants we've dine at. Looks like they had a beach theme, with wood and pictures of the ocean. We chose the restaurant week option. Their guacamole was good and steak was delicious. It had some spicy sauce on top. We couldn't even eat the dessert but took them home. Service was great, our waitress checked in on us often.

We had heard about how great this place was and as a lover of Mexican it was game on. The decor and layout are very cool. The food, both temp and taste were disappointing. Flavorful meats and hot food were not a part of our journey that night and for Wayzata and a meal for 5 that is 125 for burritos and tacos we expect better. I would rank it lower but other yelp friends swear by it ....

I had been wanting to go here forever & finally made the visit! What a cute and bright spot in Wayzata! The inside was actually a lot bigger than I imagined. We sat at the bar & actually had the owner as a bartender. He was super nice & informative. We got the Tequila Miso Wings first which were really yummy! They are baked & then fried & so delish!!! I wouldn't mind a little more meat, but they were super juicy! Sweet corn- this was tasty - it's made with Grilled corn, cotija cheese, mayo, traditional seasoning. It was nicely seasoned and I'd get it again. Brussel sprouts- Buffalo style, with cotija cheese, xoxo sauce & tortilla chips. These were unique and fun! Tacos- I got the Chicken Tinga & the bf got the Grilled fish. The chicken was nice, but I'd like if the tortilla was grilled. It was cold which gave a dry effect. They came with sides of rice & beans which were both good! Tres Leches- omg this was soft and moist. So delish!

Baja house is the perfect place for good Mexican food and a good vibe. It knocks any typical Mexican restaurant out of the water in terms of food, service, and ambiance. I'd definitely try to be there for happy hour to get the yuca fries and cheese curds. Our server was also great but I didn't catch his name otherwise I'd definitely give him a shoutout.

    Chicken Mole Enchiladas
    Matt H.

I've been wanting to come here since they opened. Loved the vibes and cocktails (margarita and matador both good), chips and queso/guac/salsa were ok. (Queso and salsa both very mild. Guac light on lime.) Biggest disappointment was the mole enchiladas. I'm a HUGE mole fan and had high hopes, but the mole was the wrong consistency (a thick paste instead of a sauce), didn't have much flavor and there wasn't enough of it to keep the chicken from being dry. Artfully presented but needs some more attention to the basics. I would come back and try some other dishes.

    Niman Ranch Ribeye

Went here for Restaurant Week Feb 2022. My sister raves about their Niman Ranch Ribeye that she can't get off her mind. We decided with a condensed menu we can try all the favorites. My husband had the Niman Ranch Ribeye and I had the Divers Scallops. I got to taste a little from everyone's dishes as well. It came as a 3 course meal, I had the Caesar Salad which had the perfect amount of dressing, and not overpowering. My husband had the ceviche which was sour and sweet. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked and it melted in my mouth. I'd recommend eating and dipping it with all the sauces on your plate. The scallops were sweet and savory. My type of seafood. I can't wait to go back

Phone never eats first here. My first experience was incredible, my second was a bit off but understandably since you never get that good of a thing twice. The corn as always met up to expectations, however the service lacked. For your top experience, I highly recommend sitting inside where a waiter will regularly check in. We had a long wait even though it wasn't a busy night, but otherwise the food was pretty dang good and I'd still return out of respect for that. Tacos are always the way to go and don't forget a marg.

The staff was also really helpful when it came to navigating gluten and dairy preferences, which I always appreciate. Good cocktail options and great presentation in nice glassware. The Parker House rolls were the clear table favorite, served with three different spreads that were all worth trying. The Brussels sprouts were divine and the beef tenderloin was good, though the portion felt a little small for the price. The short rib special was amazing, but they weren't able to substitute the potatoes for a gluten free option, which meant the dish came out incomplete at full cost. Our waitress was apologetic and lovely about it, but it's not a great touch for a restaurant that otherwise does a nice job acknowledging dietary needs. The Eloise sundae is an absolute must. Done tableside and completely phenomenal.

I've eaten here once before for a special event year prior and the food options were better in my opinion. The small plates got even smaller and more expensive. Not sure if the quality was better on things either. I was with 3 others and we all shared plates. chicken karaage was alright. I liked the crispiness was the sauce was nothing extravagant. Truffle Edamame - best thing I had! The only thing craveworthy that I had. Shrimp taco - smelled fishy but tasted better. I was able to split it into 2 since the shells are so small and the filling worked well in the 2 provided. Crispy rice with spicy tuna - this was fun to do but not as good as we were hoping. It was missing something. Shishito peppers- these were large and many had the seeds. Spicier due to this. Wagyu sushi tacos $24 for the tiny things and it looked like ground wagyu... felt like a cash grab. I didn't eat them but my crew ate 2 and didn't want to eat the last one. Chicken fried rice - good size and really gingery. Not my favorite but it was edible. Better value than other items. The sushi felt like Crave and they were teeny tiny. I didn't enjoy the fishiness so I was one and done. (I normally love seafood) Dessert- we split 2.. the churros and the tres leches. The churros needed some sweetness in the mixture as they were bland. I was hoping for a really good churro and these were just ok. The tres leches wasn't traditional and they should change the name to avoid confusion. They have a better happy hour if you sit at the bar. Our server was able to order us some fries. Despite not being in the bar area. Overall, I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here. The drinks and happy hour, maybe. The cocktail menu was very nice and I tried a few of my friends drinks.

I guess I wouldn't complain if the dishes were done well but they weren't. Every protein dish was bland, bland, bland. From the prime rib, to the scrambled eggs, to the salmon...they all had absolutely no flavor. Oh, and you have to ask your server for salt & pepper for your table. This restaurant opened in January 2025 and glad I came across it online! Fiore - 8.7/10 3 of us ordered this drink and it was very good, simple gin-based drink. The drops of herb-infused EVOO on the top was a nice touch and a refreshing cocktail. Lablabi - 8.1/10 None of us had tried a dish like this before. Fun combo of burrata, chick peas, harissa paste, and croutons. It really worked well together and is apparently a staple dish in Tunisia. Caesar salad - 7/10 Very light, good parmesan, lemony, I would have liked more toppings but given how creamy many of the other dishes were, perhaps a lighter start to the meal was good. :) Banh mi pizza - 9.2/10 This was their pizza of the day. It was so tasty with slow roasted pork, cucumber, and a delicious curst. Excited to come back another time and try their hot honey pepperoni. Pappardelle alla lisa - 8/10 Having ordered pappardelle a few times recently, I'm finding it's not my favorite noodle because it's more floppy and less chewy because of how wide and thin it is. Regardless, still a good dish, the meat sauce was a little more muted in flavor than I expected, maybe the nuttiness of the grana padano contributed to a different flavor profile. Cavatelli - 9.5/10 This was the best dish of the night and surprised us all! How could butternut squash be so good. However, this was like the best, creamiest mac and cheese. Such a satisfying texture, the boursin sauce was incredible. This is one of those rare special dishes I will remember and come back for some day. Lasagna - 9/10 Really good white lasagna, creamy sauce, with a mushroom-forward flavor. It's nice having a thinner two-layer lasagna. Chicken Parm - 8.9/10 So different than everything else on the menu! Incredibly crispy deep fried chicken with some good spices from chili crisp. Felt like eating ribs because they were served on a skewer. Spaghetti - 7.9/10 Savory olive oil and butter sauce, well prepared dish with zucchini, lighter than the other pasta dishes. Budino/Lemon meringue - 8.4/10 Excellent custard/pudding and mix of flavors Cannolis French silk - 8.2/10 I don't typically go for cannolis because of the ricotta filling but these were very good. Also great crispy texture. Nice atmosphere and service. Walking up to the exterior of the restaurant you wouldn't expect such a high quality dining experience. Recommend checking it out!

It was not great. The problem? I think it was because owner/chef Rene Ruiz Olivar was acting as waiter, not chef. We gave Sr. Ruiz the freedom to choose our tapas, with one exception, the black ink pasta with scallops and shrimp (Tinta Negra) that reviewers have raved about. He said, no problema--he would serve it. Then he must have forgotten because we never got it. The first tapa served, almond-crusted manchego (Almendrado), was plated prettily and was delicious but oh-so-sweet. It was an odd choice for a starter, would have been better as the finale in case nobody ordered dessert. Soon came a lamb tapa (Cordero). The lamb chops' quality was uncertain as the meat was severely overcooked. El Bodegon's langoustines (Gambas al Ajillo) had given every bit of their sea flavor to the sauce, which was magnificent, we all agreed. But where were the dish's promised mussels, the rice? One shared plate, a beef tenderloin tapa (Carne Brava), had apparently lingered too long in the kitchen--the meat was nearly cold. I adore papas bravas (Patatas Bravas). I must have had the dish a dozen times or more during my last trip to Spain, in 2017, when I visited friends who live in Ronda. During my six-week stay, we toured Andalucia, staying at hotels in large cities and visiting small towns. I also spent time sola in Madrid and Barcelona. Unlike in Spain, El Bodegon's potatoes were diced to death. Never in Spain have I ever had patatas bravas that were not substantial in size. All in all, I found the vegetables accompanying the tapas unrecognizable except for the tiny Brussels sprouts. The rest seemed chopped up or stirred to pieces in the pan. Some of my friends had churros for their dessert. They deemed them appropriately hot and tasty. My dessert was cheesecake torte, decked out with a candle as it was my 90th birthday. The torte was a gold-star winner. It was absolutely delicious, its plating the most successful of the evening. It was so perfect it almost made up for the sub-par tapas that preceded it. One of us had a view of the kitchen from his seat at the table. He saw a man other than the chef/owner doing the cooking. Was he a trainee? Did Sr. Ruiz help with the plating? God knows he didn't have a lot patrons to contend with in his role as waiter. It was a slow weeknight, and there were never more than four tables occupied. I sincerely regret that our time at El Bodegon differs from so many reviewers. Like them, I want to see Sr. Ruiz's little restaurant succeed. He has a hard row to hoe, and I hope a disappointing dinner like ours does not befall anyone else going forward.
