The space is beautiful and has a scenic view of the water. In the summer, you will probably need to get a reservation. I've eaten here once before for a special event year prior and the food options were better in my opinion. The small plates got even smaller and more expensive. Not sure if the quality was better on things either. I was with 3 others and we all shared plates. chicken karaage was alright. I liked the crispiness was the sauce was nothing extravagant. Truffle Edamame - best thing I had! The only thing craveworthy that I had. Shrimp taco - smelled fishy but tasted better. I was able to split it into 2 since the shells are so small and the filling worked well in the 2 provided. Crispy rice with spicy tuna - this was fun to do but not as good as we were hoping. It was missing something. Shishito peppers- these were large and many had the seeds. Spicier due to this. Wagyu sushi tacos $24 for the tiny things and it looked like ground wagyu... felt like a cash grab. I didn't eat them but my crew ate 2 and didn't want to eat the last one. Chicken fried rice - good size and really gingery. Not my favorite but it was edible. Better value than other items. The sushi felt like Crave and they were teeny tiny. I didn't enjoy the fishiness so I was one and done. (I normally love seafood) Dessert- we split 2.. the churros and the tres leches. The churros needed some sweetness in the mixture as they were bland. I was hoping for a really good churro and these were just ok. The tres leches wasn't traditional and they should change the name to avoid confusion. They have a better happy hour if you sit at the bar. Our server was able to order us some fries. Despite not being in the bar area. Overall, I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here. The drinks and happy hour, maybe. Easy reservations, parking, and check in to the space. All seating options are great in the winter, especially with the heated patio and the dining room with their fireplaces. Appreciates that plates and utensils are refreshed for appetizers, mains, and desserts. Presentation of the food is beautiful, especially fun to sear your own New York strip. Macanda continues to raise the bar with their new menu additions. We started with the corn esquites (10/10), not new but always a staple for us -- truly the best we've had. Creamy, zesty, and perfectly balanced with cotija, lime, and chili, and better than several other versions we've tried in the area. The Tuna Tostadas (9/10) were a highlight for us. Unique flavor of tuna with lemongrass chimichurri and a touch of truffle, bringing brightness, umami, and richness together in a perfect bite. The Wagyu Sushi Tacos (10/10) were the standout -- melt-in-your-mouth wagyu topped with caviar in a unique bite size presentation. The Kinoko Old Fashioned (9/10) was an excellent cocktail made with Japanese whiskey and mushroom butter, delivering a very smooth, earthy, and complex flavor profile. We tried both the Mexican Roll (8/10) fresh and well-executed but more avocado than I'd care for on a roll -- and the Tuna Pico Roll (10/10) which was easily the favorite of the night thanks to its vibrant layers of citrus, spice, and texture. We also tried the Spicy Tuna Maki Roll (7/10). The spicy tuna itself was excellent, but the roll leaned heavy on vegetables, distracting from the quality of the fish. Unfortunately, they were out of the crispy rice we had hoped to try, so we'll definitely be back for that. We finished with the churros (7/10), which were warm and crisp with cinnamon sugar and sauces, but could have used gelato or whipped cream to really elevate the dessert. Overall, a 9/10 experience -- bold flavors, creative combinations, and a menu that keeps getting better. We'll be returning soon to explore more of the Mexican-focused dishes and see how those have been revamped. Service is always phenomenal and pleasant. Been here once before and enjoyed it. Heard they had a new chef and wanted to circle back for another visit. Didn't have a reservation, it was a Sunday night and not terribly busy luckily. Was able to be seated on the patio and it was a stormy night but it's indoor and heated. I wanted the same frozen drink from before but they got rid of it so I tried a new one. Got some calamari and a few tacos. Food and drinks were very tasty. Also got some churros for dessert. Staff was very friendly but the service was a little slow when it came to ordering the food. Bigggg change! Having visited four times prior to their makeover, Macanda was a spot that had moved to the bottom of my list. I really really tried to get on board with them but just couldn't - it felt expensive, with underwhelming food and a simple interior. What a shift! Their revamp has made a world of difference. I also think catering more to the Wayzata crowd, adding sushi rolls, small and sharable plates, all while keeping some of their classics. Their views of the lake are really unmatched and they boast a waterfront 4 seasons porch that now keeps up with the new food caliber. I went with a group of gals on a Monday night and the patio was packed. It was within their first few weeks of changing the menu, but still. We split two small plates and then each ordered our own roll. I would skip the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The rice was a thin (maybe one grain thick I kid you not) fried rice patty with a small dollop of tuna and barely any sauce. The corn dish (elote) on the other had was full of flavor - spicy and plentiful for four people with each of us gladly taking two servings. I would order the 294 roll without question. The other girls were less impressed with their rolls, but the 294 roll, although coming in at over $30, arrives with 10 instead of eight pieces and is flavorful, holds up to chopsticks and is definitely filling if you like shrimp tempura. Only thing I would say is service was quite slow, but again, they are early on in this renovation so understandably working out the kinks. f you were turned off by old Macanda, check them out again, very different experience! read more

They also claim to have a better price point, but the portion to price ratio doesn't match up. Still one of the best restaurants in the twin cities. Their patio is my all time favorite spot for a nice dinner. The service is always nice, drinks spectacular and food is SO flavorful. We LOVED everything here! Our server had great conversations with us, filled us in on the menu, and gave amazing recommendations! My table shared four apps which was plenty to start our night. We ordered the shrimp empanadas impulsively at the last minute and they were my favorite app. The pork chop probably wouldn't have been my first choice, but we heard so many positive reviews that we ordered it and I am very thankful we did. This pork chop was perfectly cooked -- tender with phenomenal flavor. The enchiladas were a small portion, so I would plan for an app or a side. My friends and I came here for a bachelorette at dinner. It was a really fun environment. It turned into a club with music and a live DJ after dark. The food was delicious. I wish we would've been seated in the enclosed patio area, but the area we were seated in was fine. It's just nothing special, and the inclosed patio would have been a way better experience since that is what really makes them unique and special. Parking was free, easy to find and plentiful. Came for a birthday dinner (10 people) The person I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and accommodating with scheduling the reservation. He suggested dining on the patio which was heated. And advised me they can't do separate checks which I completely understand with a somewhat larger party. We showed up and were told we couldn't sit till the whole party was here 4 weren't there yet, waited till they arrived to sit. The table was not on the patio like we requested, but the inside was very beautiful. Our waitress was amazing and very kind. 4 peoples cocktails were extremely watered down, they go heavy with the ice here. I ordered the Lychee martini which didn't have any ice and was great. You know that old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...yeah, that very much applies here. When they announced they were going to remodel and revamp the menu, I was so confused. As someone who lives about five minutes away and regularly ate here, it just didn't make sense. The food and drinks were wonderful, the atmosphere was great, and the prices were reasonable. Loving both fresh fish and Mexican food, the tostadas had a special place in my heart, as did the cosmic hippo cocktail. The decor is virtually unchanged, mostly just the layout, so that's great, but the food, portion sizes, and prices are wildly disappointing. We had the crispy rice with tuna, scallop tostada, king crab tacos, broccolini, karaage, and one of the sashimi offerings, but nothing stood out, besides the wildly small portion sizes. Yes, I know the new tostadas are around $20 where the old ones were around $30, but where the prices are now 2/3 what they used to be, the portions sizes are 1/3 what they used to be, at best. The sushi offerings don't make any sense either because quite frankly, why would you come to Macanda for sushi with so many other options for sushi close by. Sushi Fix, which is arguably one of the best sushi restaurants is within walking distance, as is Sakana, and Cov has sushi as well. I just get the impression that Macanda wants to be Nobu when they grow up but if things remain how they are, I see them sinking before they swim. read more

I am honestly heartbroken and extremely disappointed. I booked a reservation last night for a very special day, and I did not cancel it. Yet today I was told that my reservation was canceled by your side. Because of this, my entire day and plans were completely ruined. A moment that was supposed to be happy and memorable turned into stress, frustration, and embarrassment. When you plan something important, you trust the place you book with -- and that trust was broken. So many places stick to their same old menu for years but they boldly re-did their menu and made it into something really fun and we already can't wait to go back. Not only is their menu full of interesting things to try but their selection of drinks is also improved. We had a couple of amazing bottles of wine for a good price as well as fun cocktails. Service was also great, our waitress really helped describe the foods and made great suggestions. The whole re-do made Macanda into something we will try more than just once a year. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Macanda was one of our absolute favorite restaurants since moving here in 2023. It is where we took visitors and house guests because we knew the ambiance, service, food and drinks would be perfect as always! If a restaurant isn't consistent with their experience, it's a risky suggestion. When I heard they were closing for a week or so to redo their menu I was so confused. Why fix something that isn't broken? Nevertheless, I was still looking forward to going for our anniversary. My husband made a reservation for last night nearly a month ago and I was quite surprised to see we were shoved in a corner against the wall and server station. I asked if it was possible for us to wait for a table on the 4 seasons patio and he said they're "fully booked". Really? I found it interesting that the patio was full of people who made reservations more than a month out like we did...But whatever. The menu doesn't really explain what anything is so our server gave us the run through for nearly 10 minutes. I don't think we got our cocktails for at least 20 minutes. (His old fashion was fine but a bit watery. My honeydew cocktail was pretty lame). We ordered an app, tuna tostadas bc even though I didn't want sushi, I did like the tuna tostada on their old menu. I will say, they were very good! Price point is not it though. Server claimed prices are less now bc we're doing "small plates". WELL dear reader, the portions are absolutely SLASHED as well. My husband ordered the pork chop for dinner and I, craving the Mexican fusion I expected, ordered the chicken enchilada because they took my BELOVED carnitas burrito off the menu (I literally don't even like burritos and that burrito was THE best burrito I've ever had in my life. HOW did that dish not make the cut??) Anyway, the chicken enchiladas were nothing to write home about. Not bad! But I could have made them at home. The flavor wasn't impressive. I asked for some salsa to spice it up a bit. Server said they don't have salsas anymore. Okay...then why bother having any Mexican food on your menu. I asked if she had any hot sauce. 10 minutes later, maybe 15, sriracha arrived. Well, I'm nearly finished with half my meal already and sriracha is for Asian food, not Mexican. My husband's pork chop was delicious but he said he could have eaten a bit more. It certainly is a brand new menu but I wasn't expecting an entirely different cuisine. I love sushi and Japanese fusion food but we just had sushi 2 nights ago so I wasn't super interested in seafood. That limited my options. When I want sushi, I will go back. (Although I did see $30-$40 rolls and I'm sorry but I moved here from Seattle where we have Shiro's and I highly doubt the quality will match what you can get on the coast so that price point is INTERESTING.) Lastly, we had to flag our server down after waiting to pay our bill for 15 min. I'm just bummed because it was a special occasion and my husband was so kind to book my favorite restaurant, and it was a 98 minute average experience on what was supposed to be an unforgettable evening. read more

Loved visiting Macanda! Parking was relatively easy to find on a Thursday evening in the large parking lot. Signage helped guide us to the restaurant since it is in a building with other businesses. This place is gorgeous! I love the cactus decorations and the light and airy feel. We didn't have a reservation and were seated right away on their porch. Our server greeted us right away and did a VERY detailed overview of the menu, recommending like half of the items. It was a little overwhelming honestly. We started with a saffron margarita and mezcal margarita. Both equally delicious and well-balanced. We ordered the chips and salsa, mussels, shrimp tempura tacos, and carne asada tacos. Everything but the mussels had a great flavors! Their sauce was good, but the mussels themselves were a little gritty and didn't seem super fresh. The tacos were SO delicious! My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night around 8:10 PM. The posted closing time is 9 PM, so we assumed we'd still be okay to dine. When we walked in, no one was at the host stand. Someone behind the bar briefly looked up but didn't acknowledge us. When I asked whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated, the only response I got was a flat "no," without clarification. After waiting a few minutes, another staff member approached us and said she wasn't sure they were still seating tables and needed to check with her manager. Then a third person (the manager?) came over and told us, "the kitchen closes in about 15 minutes, but if you can make it quick, we can seat you." At that point, the message felt pretty clear. We were seated and given water, but the interaction had been so uncomfortable and unwelcoming that we decided to leave before ordering. I've enjoyed the live-music vibe here in the past, but after this experience, I'm not sure I'll be returning--especially with so many other great places to try in the Twin Cities. read more

This is our new favorite restaurant in Wayzata. Macanda revamped their menu this week. It's now a seafood-forward Japanese (nobu-like) restaurant. Macanda v2 isn't son of the mask -- its empire strikes back / judgment day / dark night rises. Better than the original in basically every way. We had the crispy rice spicy tuna, tuna tostada, salmon tacos, Mexican roll & miso black cod (like nobu). Everything was 5/5. Fresh, refreshing, exciting, ambitious/different. Pricing is similar to before, but it felt cheaper because everything we ordered was fresh seafood. Miso black cod was a standout -- esp. if you like mushrooms. it's plated on oyster mushrooms. Cocktail menu has been revamped with Japanese influence (think shochu, sake, Japanese whisky, lychee etc). All 4 cocktails we got were inventive yet balanced. The star for me was the Kingston to Milan -- almost savory, creamy sour & a little salty. Ingredients sound weird and different but it works. Service was attentive. Enchanting ambiance sitting on the patio looking over the lake. The food may be a little derivative of nobu and other modern Japanese, but who needs to re-invent the wheel. Macanda 2.0 brings a fresh and much needed addition to Minneapolis restaurant scene. read more

The restaurant itself is stunning at night. It's the dreamiest vibe with the fire place and all the ambient lighting. The food was where it fell short. We did the street corn and yuca apps. The street corn was good, but very average. The yuca was a bit dry and very spicy but still okay. The scallops were burned and the purée/hash they were served with had absolutely no flavor. I made our reservations during golden hour so we can have the sun set and requested for us to sit in the four seasons porch or sun room. PARKING You'll find a large parking lot you can park at. I was able to find available spots. You'll enter through doors of 6Smith and take a left. The restaurant is down the hall. FOOD (What we really want to know, right?) Let's just say we both liked all the flavors and taste. It was really quality food, at least the ones we tried! It is more small plates so plan accordingly. We went during Restaurant Week and I went for their restaurant deal. I would highly recommend the guac (YUM!) and scallops. My friend had the shrimp taco and she loved it. The corn tortilla did not break on her at all. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the pistachio cocktail. While I'm a fan of pistachio is was too strong for my liking. AESTHETICS Like most reviews, this restaurant gives Arizona vibes. Immediately you get blown away with the plants and boho style. While boho isn't my personal favorite, I enjoyed being in the space. My first time going to Macanada, I had high hopes. The restaurant is in a nice location with a cool vibe near the lake. The service was good, he was prompt and very friendly. The food was alright, but needs work. I tried the raw tuna, two tacos, salmon, and esquites, and honestly nothing stood out to me. The tacos fell apart! The salmon did not taste very good, kinda fishy, and was not accompanied by any rice or side other than an avocado sauce. The esquites weren't bad, and the raw tuna was good, but really not breathtaking. For the price per taco, and the fact this is a Daniel del Prado restaurant I had high hopes that were seriously let down. I don't see myself returning to Macanda even for the empanadas (same as Porzana I believe, which are great), but I do hope they can improve the salmon dish and offer a side with it. I was in town and super excited to try the restaurant. I had reservations but opted for the bar. As I got to the bar I asked the female bartender if the seat was open. She looked at me and said I don't know, and kept moving. Came across very rude as I just stood there, the other bartender, a male, then spoke to me as it seems he was use to her being rude. I probably stood for over 15 minutes waiting for someone to clean off an area. The food seems overpriced for what it is, and the cocktails left a lot to be desired. Macanda is quite a distance from the city, but it's definitely worth the drive. There's a parking lot, although it fills up quickly. If you prefer not to deal with parking, valet service is available. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, creating a vibe that feels like you're in Mexico, with plenty of plants and dim lighting. Macanda has immaculate vibes inside and on the patio overlooking the lake! The decor transports you from MN, to a tropical escape! The carne asada tacos were perfectly cooked and I may even get these every time I visit in the future because they were that good! Disclaimer that the salsa served with the tacos is SPICY but it's a great addition to the flavors in play. Also recommend the guacamole mixto with grilled avocados, cilantro, and pistachio macha. My favorite salsa was the tomatillo serrano, this was a mild salsa and was easy to snack on! If you're looking for a drink on the sweeter side the Ileana is there for you! We enjoyed our dinner at Macanda. The blue corn chips that come with the guacamole and the queso are so light and crisp, almost flaky. Best chips I've had in a long time. I liked the mushroom tacos with a generous squirt of lime. They weren't particularly remarkable, but generally all the food was tasty. The sides are a nice addition to the tacos. We got the rice, beans and esquite (elote corn off the cob). Sometimes I appreciate just a generally good meal. It doesn't always have to surprise you or be an explosion of flavors.
