Can't express my gratitude for La Madre enough. I had a large party reservation that I changed three time (one of which was as we were checking in ) and they were so accommodating. They even had custom menus for us! We ended up having some people no show and I was never made to feel bad about it. For a large party our server was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive and never rushed us (even though we were there for nearly three hours). She also provided great recommendations! Now onto the food - we started with chips, guacamole and queso. The queso was good, but not a standout item. The guacamole on the other hand was 10/10. Not to mention the chips are probably made with flower tortillas instead of corn and so crispy. With the chips you get the world's tiniest container of salsa. We weren't fans of the roja/medium salsa, but the verde wasn't bad. I ordered (multiple - oops) spicy margaritas; which were the perfect level of spice. I also had a steak taco street style and the fish taco. I wouldn't change a thing about either. To finish the meal we passed around churros. They were the delightfully soft with a crunch and served with a hardy scoop of ice cream. Overall we'll be back for another round as I now feel the need to eat my way through the menu. read more

La Madre is definitely a vibe. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is top tier.. warm lighting, intentional design, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. It's a beautiful space for date night, girls' night, or even a networking meetup. You can actually connect here without yelling over the music, which I appreciate. The staff? Super friendly and welcoming. Attentive without hovering, and they kept the energy light and fun. I ordered a house margarita with birria tacos and esquites. The margarita was solid, and the presentation across the board was nice. The birria tacos and esquites weren't bad at all... but something felt slightly off flavor-wise. I can't quite put my finger on it maybe seasoning balance or depth, but it didn't quite land in my "craving this again tomorrow" category. Overall, La Madre is more about the experience and ambiance for me. It's a great networking and connecting spot with beautiful energy. Not currently in my top food favorites, but I'd absolutely come back for the vibe and to try other menu items. I was so impressed by this place! Authentic flavors down to the salsas. I walked in after driving around and they were able to seat me at a table immediately. The server was so kind and helpful. The vibe is really hip (something I've been dying to find in the twin cities). All in all I was super pleased with my meal. I ordered the carne asada burrito without cheese or crema. Super yummy for Taco Tuesday! Deals were $1 off tacos and $3 off margaritas. Taco options were unique and had many proteins. It was taco only, with ability to purchase beans and rice on the side. The menu had other entrees like burritos, and plenty of appetizers. Our favorite part of the meal was the dessert! We had the churros, which were served super warm and were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, alongside ice cream. Service was very nice and accommodating. La Madre comes with friendly service and very tasty Mexican food. Since it's so close by I've been fortunate to try a handful of their dishes now. Each time I always have to order their chips, which are freshly made, with their salsa and queso blanco dip. It's surprising to me though that each dip you want is separate and paid a la carte from the chips. Besides that, my favorite dishes are the mussels soaked in an al pastor red broth and steak quesadilla. The tacos are a bit pricey in my opinion and I'd stick to ordering those at a more authentic taco stand. Great first experience here. We had a reservation prior to seeing a show at the Guthrie. Sat down at 5:30 and we had plenty of time for our 7:30 show. I had the streak burrito and the only hiccup of the night was there was no steak in it. They were apologetic, brought some steak out, and took some off the bill, so excellent service recovery. The burrito was delicious even without the steak. We also had nachos for an appetizer and the three of us destroyed them. Kiddo had tacos and wife had quesadillas and they both loved them. Came here for a birthday brunch with friends, and it was such a great choice. We sat outside on the patio (so I didn't get the full indoor vibe, though it looked really cute from what I could see). The menu is full of tempting options and so I had the good kind of problem where you want to try everything and have a hard time deciding. Our server/bartender, Brandon was fantastic. He was super personable and gave great recommendations based on his own favorites. We started with chips and a few different salsas plus the Besos Latinos, which were all really tasty. The Besos Latinos (cream cheese stuffed jalapeños) had a nice bite without being overwhelming. For my main, I went with the chilaquiles and added al pastor. It was delicious and something I'd definitely order again. My only thought is that I wish the protein was mixed in rather than served on the side. The brunch drinks were another highlight. Im starting to prefer the option of getting a bottle of bubbles with a selection of juices so you can mix up your own mimosas rather than a bottomless situation. Lastly, the staff offered me an unexpected bday drink, and a warm churro dessert with ice cream that I was still thinking about that night. Visited 8/14/25. Got a drink at the bar before our reservation and the bartender was awesome with a great sense of humor. The paloma was perfection. Sadly we missed their happy hour but would love to come back for that specifically. The place is cute and spacious, which was nice. I will say that chips and salsa were on the steeper side of things in relation to the price point, which they are homemade but still higher than average. We decided to stop in La Madre after church since we were already close by. Our server's name started with a Y and for the life of me I can't recall it exactly, but she was the only Hispanic young lady working when we stopped in Sunday at 2pm. I really want to thank her because she was outstanding, helpful, friendly, kind, and very attentive the entire time. I've eaten here before, and while the service was okay, it wasn't anything to write home to mom about. This time, though, she really set the bar high and completely changed my impression. There's also a greeter who had been there both times I've stopped in she's consistently warm, greets everyone with a smile, and makes you feel welcome right away. The food we ordered was excellent, and the overall experience was much better than what I've had in the past. Seeing that kind of improvement in service makes me want to come back again, and I definitely will, especially since there are a few other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying. read more

Great restaurant close to the Guthrie, Stone Arch, and Mill City. I appreciate that they take reservations and have a nice happy hour. We came on a Tuesday and they have Taco Tuesday and Marg specials. We ordered the oysters, mussels, and aguachile for apps. All really good, especially the mussels. I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! I initially worried it might be one of those places that relies on a great location and beautiful decor but falls short on food, but that wasn't the case at all. They nailed every aspect. The interior is stunning and super spacious, making it a perfect setting for happy hour with friends. The drinks were excellent, and the menu was just the right size, offering all the classic Mexican favorites without being overwhelming. My personal favorites were the margaritas and the nachos. I'm giving it four stars instead of five only because the birria quesadilla lacked the bold flavor I was hoping for. Also, parking in this area can be a hassle, which is always a downside for me. I enjoyed my server, as she was nice and very attentive. Also, everything came from the kitchen promptly, so there were no concerns in that area. However, I did come at an off time so I can't verify if quick service is the standard or an anomaly. Awesome happy hour menu! Even better on Thursdays when it's half off ALL tequila (and they have a ton of tequilas). I like that they had a lot of things on the happy hour menu. Unlike some places that have like two things. We tried the nachos and wings and margaritas. Nachos were decent, I like that you can pick the meat. It's a smaller size than the regular but more than enough for two people and for ten dollars. I'm not a fan of jalapeños but these were pickled and not spicy at all, almost sweet. The wings were just wings. Really nothing special about them. They come with two sauces for dipping. Inside is super cute and insta-worthy. Service was wonderful! I appreciate when servers make recommendations. Without happy hour, prices seemed pretty high for Americanized Mexican food. You can easily find cheaper and better Mexican food elsewhere. read more

We ordered Birria Tacos, a Burrito, and a bottle of champagne for mimosas. They don't have Saturday specials, so if you want the mimosa flight make sure you stop in on a Sunday! Luckily, they were still able to provide us with a similar situation. The glasses made it a little difficult to pour, but the mimosas hit the spot. Pros: Ambiance was great. I loved the interior and the lighting. This is definitely ideal for a large brunch or other group outing. Service was friendly, fast, and accommodating. Drinks were tasty. Cons: Waited awhile at the front without being noticed, glasses had dishwasher stains, and we thought the food was mid tier. I'd probably say a 6.5/10 food wise although the presentation was divine. We stopped in on a Saturday at 1:30. Initial pros: good location, plenty of street parking, quick seating, cozy vibe, just-right menu (not too big, not too small). Initial cons: took forever to get our drinks & apps, waitress forgot the second salsa we ordered and disappeared (had to ask hostess for it while she was clearing, washing, and setting tables, bringing people refills of water, running food), waitress took forever to come back and take our food order, water hose/dispenser that glasses are filled from is next to cleanser spray bottles & garbage and would fall off holder and hit the garbage & then dangle close to the floor (gross). My husband really enjoyed his chicken burrito and I tried a bite and it was really flavorful. My Puerco en Adobo was yummy, but rich; they need to serve it with rice and/or tortilla chips. Chips are expensive. $9 an order and we ate the initial basket before our entrees were even ordered and ordered a second basket so I'd have something to go with my entree (at the waitress's suggestion), so $18 just for chips!!!!! Why am I giving a 4 when I have so many "cons"? Because this place is new and they are still working out the kinks, maybe servers called in sick, etc., but the food, location and hostess made it worth it. read more

this place is DELICIOUS!! And that's coming from someone who doesn't like Mexican food. I had one of their chef specials, the lettuce wraps (shrimp) and for $16 it was phenomenal. I wish they gave me a bigger portion because I was NOT full afterwards but the flavors were amazing! I highly recommend trying their staff favorite salsa (its the second one from the bottom - so second spiciest) its absolutely delicious. The tacos were typical street tacos, the only twist to them was that they were nine dollars each. What a ridiculous price! Everything at this taco stand is way overpriced. On taco Tuesday, Where I received $10 off of my bill, I paid over $50 for four tacos and a bowl of queso. They were typical street tacos on a 5 inch tortilla. Nothing special, not too big. When I did mention something about pricing, the bartender replied "well it is downtown". Can't stand it when a restaurant sets. Their price is based on geographic location rather than cost of food and labor "we can get nine dollars a taco so we will." Had to wait 30 minutes for my bill, and overall there was nothing special about La Madre. read more

What a hidden gem! Beautiful space tucked away on Park Ave. We were early to our reservation and they seated us anyway. Service was difficult - only one server for the entire afternoon rush and the hostess was helping to bus tables, fill waters, and seat people. We had to wait longer than I expected to not only get a drink but to order. It was WORTH it. Taquitios were amazing with this cream/verde sauce. Happy hour starts at 2 btw... which is kinda nice. So I started with a margarita.. margarita was good. Wasn't exactly mind blowing, but it was pretty tasty. Started with the the loaded French fries... can't remember the name of them... but wow! We absokutely devoured and them. Total 10. Then I had the half dozen oysters . I'll be honest, they was a bit skeptical of ordering them, but they were fantastic and fresh tasting. Not sure what type of oyster, as it was never offered. My meal was 2 Carnita tacos and my dinning companion got a Mexican rice bowl. The tacos were not bad. But nothing spectacular. It was happy hour tacos, but here nor there... shouldn't t matter. I sometimes judge a place by their taco preparation. My friend liked his taco bowl. I was pleased... I'll probably give it another try. Maybe dinner, and dig deeper.
