Absolutely LOVED La Madre!!! It was an incredibly easy location to get to, especially since I went there with an entire group for an event. The service was fast and friendly and could accommodate our large group very easily!! The food was top tier and it was so hard to choose something because everything looked so delicious!! From the drinks, to the apps, and the main course, I can't wait to go back!!
Can't express my gratitude for La Madre enough. I had a large party reservation that I changed three time (one of which was as we were checking in ) and they were so accommodating. They even had custom menus for us! We ended up having some people no show and I was never made to feel bad about it. For a large party our server was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive and never rushed us (even though we were there for nearly three hours). She also provided great recommendations! Now onto the food - we started with chips, guacamole and queso. The queso was good, but not a standout item. The guacamole on the other hand was 10/10. Not to mention the chips are probably made with flower tortillas instead of corn and so crispy. With the chips you get the world's tiniest container of salsa. We weren't fans of the roja/medium salsa, but the verde wasn't bad. I ordered (multiple - oops) spicy margaritas; which were the perfect level of spice. I also had a steak taco street style and the fish taco. I wouldn't change a thing about either. To finish the meal we passed around churros. They were the delightfully soft with a crunch and served with a hardy scoop of ice cream. Overall we'll be back for another round as I now feel the need to eat my way through the menu.
La Madre is definitely a vibe. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is top tier.. warm lighting, intentional design, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. It's a beautiful space for date night, girls' night, or even a networking meetup. You can actually connect here without yelling over the music, which I appreciate. The staff? Super friendly and welcoming. Attentive without hovering, and they kept the energy light and fun. I ordered a house margarita with birria tacos and esquites. The margarita was solid, and the presentation across the board was nice. The birria tacos and esquites weren't bad at all... but something felt slightly off flavor-wise. I can't quite put my finger on it maybe seasoning balance or depth, but it didn't quite land in my "craving this again tomorrow" category. Overall, La Madre is more about the experience and ambiance for me. It's a great networking and connecting spot with beautiful energy. Not currently in my top food favorites, but I'd absolutely come back for the vibe and to try other menu items. Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Food (what I ordered): 3/5 Overall experience: Worth checking out.
I really wanted to love La Madre. After a botched attempt to dine elsewhere we chose here since it was close and convenient. The wings and dessert were great. The bowl entree was incredibly dry. The beef felt pre cooked and tasted like it had been sitting out forever. I will definitely try them again because it may have been an off night. Ambiance was great. I was able to find street parking easily.
A few friends and I decided to check out La Madre on a Friday afternoon for happy hour. We got there around 3:30PM and there was already an hour long wait. We had some time so we waited. First impression, it's a gorgeous space. It's clean, I love the decor, and the staff were friendly. The let down for me was the food. It really lacked authenticity, flavor, and left me feeling quite disappointed. The best thing I ate -- this is still a stretch -- was the esquites. The tres leches was below mediocre. The churros were inedible. Tacos flavorless. Margaritas were good, but the food was not a great experience. I don't think I'd go back but glad I got to try them out!
I was so impressed by this place! Authentic flavors down to the salsas. I walked in after driving around and they were able to seat me at a table immediately. The server was so kind and helpful. The vibe is really hip (something I've been dying to find in the twin cities). All in all I was super pleased with my meal. I ordered the carne asada burrito without cheese or crema. The one suggestion I'd made is to order without the green pepper. The green pepper, and raw onion created quite an acidic taste.
The food was amazing! I had a fish taco, a shrimp taco (kind of spicy), my husband ate a carnitas and shrimp burrito. We were pleased with the quick service on a semi busy Sunday night.
Super yummy for Taco Tuesday! Deals were $1 off tacos and $3 off margaritas. Taco options were unique and had many proteins. It was taco only, with ability to purchase beans and rice on the side. The menu had other entrees like burritos, and plenty of appetizers. Our favorite part of the meal was the dessert! We had the churros, which were served super warm and were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, alongside ice cream. Service was very nice and accommodating. Super fun spot right near the stone arch bridge in downtown Minneapolis!
Came here for a birthday brunch with friends, and it was such a great choice. We sat outside on the patio (so I didn't get the full indoor vibe, though it looked really cute from what I could see). The menu is full of tempting options and so I had the good kind of problem where you want to try everything and have a hard time deciding. Our server/bartender, Brandon was fantastic. He was super personable and gave great recommendations based on his own favorites. We started with chips and a few different salsas plus the Besos Latinos, which were all really tasty. The Besos Latinos (cream cheese stuffed jalapeños) had a nice bite without being overwhelming. For my main, I went with the chilaquiles and added al pastor. It was delicious and something I'd definitely order again. My only thought is that I wish the protein was mixed in rather than served on the side. The brunch drinks were another highlight. Im starting to prefer the option of getting a bottle of bubbles with a selection of juices so you can mix up your own mimosas rather than a bottomless situation. Lastly, the staff offered me an unexpected bday drink, and a warm churro dessert with ice cream that I was still thinking about that night. So good! :D Truthfully, La Madre wasn't my first choice for brunch, but I'm so glad we ended up there, and I'm already looking forward to coming back!
Visited 8/14/25. Got a drink at the bar before our reservation and the bartender was awesome with a great sense of humor. The paloma was perfection. Sadly we missed their happy hour but would love to come back for that specifically. The place is cute and spacious, which was nice. I will say that chips and salsa were on the steeper side of things in relation to the price point, which they are homemade but still higher than average. Other than those all of the prices felt reasonable. I got the flautas and these had good flavor overall. Would come back for drinks/HH!
Food: tasted great and portion size was great! Was great to get birria here especially coming from LA and not having many options in Rochester. I appreciated that the consume wasn't too salty! The esquite is amazing highly recommend that and the chips are made from scratch and also taste great :) Service: quick overall, friendly staff Ambiance: such a nice and green and warm inviting place! The sunlight was a bit bright to come here for a lunner but it was a beautiful space.
La Madre comes with friendly service and very tasty Mexican food. Since it's so close by I've been fortunate to try a handful of their dishes now. Each time I always have to order their chips, which are freshly made, with their salsa and queso blanco dip. It's surprising to me though that each dip you want is separate and paid a la carte from the chips. Besides that, my favorite dishes are the mussels soaked in an al pastor red broth and steak quesadilla. The tacos are a bit pricey in my opinion and I'd stick to ordering those at a more authentic taco stand. Otherwise, I'm happy to have this new addition with such a nice atmosphere to the neighborhood!
We decided to stop in La Madre after church since we were already close by. Our server's name started with a Y and for the life of me I can't recall it exactly, but she was the only Hispanic young lady working when we stopped in Sunday at 2pm. I really want to thank her because she was outstanding, helpful, friendly, kind, and very attentive the entire time. I've eaten here before, and while the service was okay, it wasn't anything to write home to mom about. This time, though, she really set the bar high and completely changed my impression. There's also a greeter who had been there both times I've stopped in she's consistently warm, greets everyone with a smile, and makes you feel welcome right away. The food we ordered was excellent, and the overall experience was much better than what I've had in the past. Seeing that kind of improvement in service makes me want to come back again, and I definitely will, especially since there are a few other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying.
I ordered the quesadilla with Carne Asada and the Verde green sauce. Their Carne Asada is absolutely so good. It's not chewy and you can really taste the freshness of the beef. I would say carne Asada is better here than at Purlima down the street. I wish they still had the jalapeños wrapped with bacon. read more
La Madre Restaurant was a great place to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant offers plenty of seating, with both indoor and outdoor options. The bar area was inviting and had a nice ambiance. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we were provided personalized birthday menus, which was a nice touch. The food and drinks were good. The pineapple margarita was flavorful and nicely balanced. We started with the guacamole, which was delicious and tasted fresh. The loaded nachos were good too, generous in portion with great flavor. The ceviche was limey and sweet. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked on us regularly. Overall, La Madre was a nice dining experience with good food. read more

Great restaurant close to the Guthrie, Stone Arch, and Mill City. I appreciate that they take reservations and have a nice happy hour. We came on a Tuesday and they have Taco Tuesday and Marg specials. We ordered the oysters, mussels, and aguachile for apps. All really good, especially the mussels. Had the Al Pastor tacos (2 in an order), and tres leches for dessert. Food is really good! Service and drinks were also great. Would definitely come again the next time we're in the area. read more

We were visiting Minneapolis, and really wanted a refreshing drink and came across this gem. The interior is nicely decorated, and service was also good. For food we ordered the mussels & the papas taquitos (has mashed potatoes inside) The taquitos were good, but the mussels could've used a spicy kick, and some had a very fishy taste! I'd we visit again, we'd definitely try the tacos. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! I initially worried it might be one of those places that relies on a great location and beautiful decor but falls short on food, but that wasn't the case at all. They nailed every aspect. The interior is stunning and super spacious, making it a perfect setting for happy hour with friends. The drinks were excellent, and the menu was just the right size, offering all the classic Mexican favorites without being overwhelming. My personal favorites were the margaritas and the nachos. I'm giving it four stars instead of five only because the birria quesadilla lacked the bold flavor I was hoping for. Also, parking in this area can be a hassle, which is always a downside for me. I enjoyed my server, as she was nice and very attentive. Also, everything came from the kitchen promptly, so there were no concerns in that area. However, I did come at an off time so I can't verify if quick service is the standard or an anomaly. That said, it's still a fantastic place, especially with its proximity to the Guthrie Theater and Gold Medal Park. read more

First, lovely service. Knowledgeable and fun. Second, terrific food. All three visits. Big shout out for the ceviche. Damn! Third, energetic atmosphere. Big windows right on zoomy Washington. South Loop/Mill District all the way. Soooo glad to see a new, reasonably priced, chill restaurant arrive in my neighborhood! read more
Awesome happy hour menu! Even better on Thursdays when it's half off ALL tequila (and they have a ton of tequilas). I like that they had a lot of things on the happy hour menu. Unlike some places that have like two things. We tried the nachos and wings and margaritas. Nachos were decent, I like that you can pick the meat. It's a smaller size than the regular but more than enough for two people and for ten dollars. I'm not a fan of jalapeños but these were pickled and not spicy at all, almost sweet. The wings were just wings. Really nothing special about them. They come with two sauces for dipping. Inside is super cute and insta-worthy. Service was wonderful! I appreciate when servers make recommendations. Without happy hour, prices seemed pretty high for Americanized Mexican food. You can easily find cheaper and better Mexican food elsewhere. read more
La Madre was amazing! The atmosphere is fun with great lighting and plenty of seating. We started with the house margarita--strong but really tasty--and the esquite, which came in a huge portion and was full of flavor. I had the carnitas tacos and really enjoyed them. The chips and queso are definitely a must-order! Service was friendly and quick, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, I'd absolutely come back again. read more
La Madre had only been on my list for a week before I caved and made an appearance for brunch. I simply could not ignore how good everything looked! We ordered Birria Tacos, a Burrito, and a bottle of champagne for mimosas. They don't have Saturday specials, so if you want the mimosa flight make sure you stop in on a Sunday! Luckily, they were still able to provide us with a similar situation. The glasses made it a little difficult to pour, but the mimosas hit the spot. Pros: Ambiance was great. I loved the interior and the lighting. This is definitely ideal for a large brunch or other group outing. Service was friendly, fast, and accommodating. Drinks were tasty. Cons: Waited awhile at the front without being noticed, glasses had dishwasher stains, and we thought the food was mid tier. I'd probably say a 6.5/10 food wise although the presentation was divine. I'm not screaming this recommendation to everyone who will listen, but I can definitely see the potential La Madre has and could see myself back here in the right situation! read more

Went on a random Wed night and it was a full house! Was feeling the burrito and it was very clean and not overly seasoned. Like spicy with flavor? The Picante salsa is definitely a must with whatever you decide to order. read more

Tastes like potato! I suspect our waiter was new, so I will give him some grace. The food actually looked appetizing. See the attached photos. But where's the flavor? How do you make bland Mexican Food?! Not sure what was going on with the theme of the restaurant. read more
We stopped in on a Saturday at 1:30. Initial pros: good location, plenty of street parking, quick seating, cozy vibe, just-right menu (not too big, not too small). Initial cons: took forever to get our drinks & apps, waitress forgot the second salsa we ordered and disappeared (had to ask hostess for it while she was clearing, washing, and setting tables, bringing people refills of water, running food), waitress took forever to come back and take our food order, water hose/dispenser that glasses are filled from is next to cleanser spray bottles & garbage and would fall off holder and hit the garbage & then dangle close to the floor (gross). My husband really enjoyed his chicken burrito and I tried a bite and it was really flavorful. My Puerco en Adobo was yummy, but rich; they need to serve it with rice and/or tortilla chips. Chips are expensive. $9 an order and we ate the initial basket before our entrees were even ordered and ordered a second basket so I'd have something to go with my entree (at the waitress's suggestion), so $18 just for chips!!!!! Why am I giving a 4 when I have so many "cons"? Because this place is new and they are still working out the kinks, maybe servers called in sick, etc., but the food, location and hostess made it worth it. read more

Chips and guacamole were delicious! We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. I had a chicken quesadilla as my entree and was disappointed, it was way too cheesy. I would still go back for the chips and guac and maybe try their tacos instead of the quesadilla! read more
Pretty amazing food, there many things I wanted to try, but the ol' stomach can only fit so much. I do plan on coming back to try different options. The Asada and Carnitas didn't have the most flavor but overall was very good. The Nachos definitely looked good for next time. Prices are a bit high. read more

I went for lunch on a Tuesday! I was happy to see there were a few tables full at this new place. They have a huge dining room and a great bar. The whole place was photo worthy haha, and a great vibe! I had the esquites/street corn appetizer (100/10) and the carntias tacos American style. Everything was so flavorful, fresh, and filling. Service was super friendly and insanely quick. I definitely want to come back and try their cocktails. Prices were standard for a downtown restaurant and could always be better, but I felt like I got the band for my buck. Overall a great experience, will be back. read more
