A few friends and I decided to check out La Madre on a Friday afternoon for happy hour. We got there around 3:30PM and there was already an hour long wait. We had some time so we waited. First impression, it's a gorgeous space. It's clean, I love the decor, and the staff were friendly. The let down for me was the food. It really lacked authenticity, flavor, and left me feeling quite disappointed. The best thing I ate -- this is still a stretch -- was the esquites. The tres leches was below mediocre. The churros were inedible. Tacos flavorless. Margaritas were good, but the food was not a great experience. I don't think I'd go back but glad I got to try them out!

I really wanted to love La Madre. After a botched attempt to dine elsewhere we chose here since it was close and convenient. The wings and dessert were great. The bowl entree was incredibly dry. The beef felt pre cooked and tasted like it had been sitting out forever. I will definitely try them again because it may have been an off night. Ambiance was great. I was able to find street parking easily.

La Madre is definitely a vibe. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is top tier.. warm lighting, intentional design, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. It's a beautiful space for date night, girls' night, or even a networking meetup. You can actually connect here without yelling over the music, which I appreciate. The staff? Super friendly and welcoming. Attentive without hovering, and they kept the energy light and fun. I ordered a house margarita with birria tacos and esquites. The margarita was solid, and the presentation across the board was nice. The birria tacos and esquites weren't bad at all... but something felt slightly off flavor-wise. I can't quite put my finger on it maybe seasoning balance or depth, but it didn't quite land in my "craving this again tomorrow" category. Overall, La Madre is more about the experience and ambiance for me. It's a great networking and connecting spot with beautiful energy. Not currently in my top food favorites, but I'd absolutely come back for the vibe and to try other menu items. Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Food (what I ordered): 3/5 Overall experience: Worth checking out.

Super yummy for Taco Tuesday! Deals were $1 off tacos and $3 off margaritas. Taco options were unique and had many proteins. It was taco only, with ability to purchase beans and rice on the side. The menu had other entrees like burritos, and plenty of appetizers. Our favorite part of the meal was the dessert! We had the churros, which were served super warm and were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, alongside ice cream. Service was very nice and accommodating. Super fun spot right near the stone arch bridge in downtown Minneapolis!

I was so impressed by this place! Authentic flavors down to the salsas. I walked in after driving around and they were able to seat me at a table immediately. The server was so kind and helpful. The vibe is really hip (something I've been dying to find in the twin cities). All in all I was super pleased with my meal. I ordered the carne asada burrito without cheese or crema. The one suggestion I'd made is to order without the green pepper. The green pepper, and raw onion created quite an acidic taste.

Came here for a birthday brunch with friends, and it was such a great choice. We sat outside on the patio (so I didn't get the full indoor vibe, though it looked really cute from what I could see). The menu is full of tempting options and so I had the good kind of problem where you want to try everything and have a hard time deciding. Our server/bartender, Brandon was fantastic. He was super personable and gave great recommendations based on his own favorites. We started with chips and a few different salsas plus the Besos Latinos, which were all really tasty. The Besos Latinos (cream cheese stuffed jalapeños) had a nice bite without being overwhelming. For my main, I went with the chilaquiles and added al pastor. It was delicious and something I'd definitely order again. My only thought is that I wish the protein was mixed in rather than served on the side. The brunch drinks were another highlight. Im starting to prefer the option of getting a bottle of bubbles with a selection of juices so you can mix up your own mimosas rather than a bottomless situation. Lastly, the staff offered me an unexpected bday drink, and a warm churro dessert with ice cream that I was still thinking about that night. So good! :D Truthfully, La Madre wasn't my first choice for brunch, but I'm so glad we ended up there, and I'm already looking forward to coming back!

La Madre comes with friendly service and very tasty Mexican food. Since it's so close by I've been fortunate to try a handful of their dishes now. Each time I always have to order their chips, which are freshly made, with their salsa and queso blanco dip. It's surprising to me though that each dip you want is separate and paid a la carte from the chips. Besides that, my favorite dishes are the mussels soaked in an al pastor red broth and steak quesadilla. The tacos are a bit pricey in my opinion and I'd stick to ordering those at a more authentic taco stand. Otherwise, I'm happy to have this new addition with such a nice atmosphere to the neighborhood!

Visited 8/14/25. Got a drink at the bar before our reservation and the bartender was awesome with a great sense of humor. The paloma was perfection. Sadly we missed their happy hour but would love to come back for that specifically. The place is cute and spacious, which was nice. I will say that chips and salsa were on the steeper side of things in relation to the price point, which they are homemade but still higher than average. Other than those all of the prices felt reasonable. I got the flautas and these had good flavor overall. Would come back for drinks/HH!

Food: tasted great and portion size was great! Was great to get birria here especially coming from LA and not having many options in Rochester. I appreciated that the consume wasn't too salty! The esquite is amazing highly recommend that and the chips are made from scratch and also taste great :) Service: quick overall, friendly staff Ambiance: such a nice and green and warm inviting place! The sunlight was a bit bright to come here for a lunner but it was a beautiful space.

We decided to stop in La Madre after church since we were already close by. Our server's name started with a Y and for the life of me I can't recall it exactly, but she was the only Hispanic young lady working when we stopped in Sunday at 2pm. I really want to thank her because she was outstanding, helpful, friendly, kind, and very attentive the entire time. I've eaten here before, and while the service was okay, it wasn't anything to write home to mom about. This time, though, she really set the bar high and completely changed my impression. There's also a greeter who had been there both times I've stopped in she's consistently warm, greets everyone with a smile, and makes you feel welcome right away. The food we ordered was excellent, and the overall experience was much better than what I've had in the past. Seeing that kind of improvement in service makes me want to come back again, and I definitely will, especially since there are a few other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying.

Great restaurant close to the Guthrie, Stone Arch, and Mill City. I appreciate that they take reservations and have a nice happy hour. We came on a Tuesday and they have Taco Tuesday and Marg specials. We ordered the oysters, mussels, and aguachile for apps. All really good, especially the mussels. Had the Al Pastor tacos (2 in an order), and tres leches for dessert. Food is really good! Service and drinks were also great. Would definitely come again the next time we're in the area.

We were visiting Minneapolis, and really wanted a refreshing drink and came across this gem. The interior is nicely decorated, and service was also good. For food we ordered the mussels & the papas taquitos (has mashed potatoes inside) The taquitos were good, but the mussels could've used a spicy kick, and some had a very fishy taste! I'd we visit again, we'd definitely try the tacos.

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! I initially worried it might be one of those places that relies on a great location and beautiful decor but falls short on food, but that wasn't the case at all. They nailed every aspect. The interior is stunning and super spacious, making it a perfect setting for happy hour with friends. The drinks were excellent, and the menu was just the right size, offering all the classic Mexican favorites without being overwhelming. My personal favorites were the margaritas and the nachos. I'm giving it four stars instead of five only because the birria quesadilla lacked the bold flavor I was hoping for. Also, parking in this area can be a hassle, which is always a downside for me. I enjoyed my server, as she was nice and very attentive. Also, everything came from the kitchen promptly, so there were no concerns in that area. However, I did come at an off time so I can't verify if quick service is the standard or an anomaly. That said, it's still a fantastic place, especially with its proximity to the Guthrie Theater and Gold Medal Park.

We went at night, so the space was not as cute as in the day. Florescent lighting and was very cold because of all the windows everywhere, but I really liked the art on the wall of "make tacos, not walls." I was a little worried when I looked at the menu because there weren't many written vegetarian options (was gonna just get rice and beans), but was able to get a vegetarian quesadilla, so I assume that many of their options can be made veggie, if you ask. Food came out relatively quickly and they brought lots of salsa too, which was perfect because I almost always have to ask for more salsa at most places. The quesadilla was so good. The cheese they used was divine and so melty! Good combo of veggies in it too (peppers and onions and more that I can't remember right now oops). I also got the oreo cheesecake, which was DIVINE. I always forget how much I like cheesecake and this one was tastier than most. I loved the crunchy oreos too to add a little texture. Will definitely be coming again to try different things. Want to try their juices when it's a little warmer!

The decor is okay, plant-inspired. Not much to look at and the lighting is quite dim. There is zero service here. No one even greets you when you walk in. It's basically operating like a fast food place. More importantly, the pictures on the menu are way different from the items you actually get. The food is fine but it is not delicious, and I don't see myself coming back here. I ordered steak quesadillas and it's like they barely toasted a tortilla, threw some tasteless meat and mozzarella cheese on it and called it a day. I had to eat sauce with every bite otherwise it would be essentially tasteless. There was nothing else on it, no onion, no peppers, nothing. I could've made better at home. This isn't even a proper restaurant. You don't get drinks, even water unless you order it. No free chips and salsa or anything like that.

Nah. Pizza? Two maybes - plus the asker. Mexican? Again, two maybes. We start scouring possibilities. And come across a pizzaria + taqueria. Ratings at a very respectable 4.5. Curiosities at full peak. Plus it's close. We've got a winner. No guests inside when we arrive. Parking right out front. Before we even decide on an order, however, people start coming in. Several tables fill up within 10 minutes. Amusingly, the first next group grabbed the one curved booth with my full drink bottle still sitting on the table in the middle of them. They migrated to the semi-booth across the dining area. Clearly, the two most desired seating areas in the house. We ordered birria pizza and horchata - we have a tradition of testing the horchata at every next Mexican restaurant we try. This one was mid - not horrible, not great. Just was. We'd ordered a birria pizza recently, elsewhere. It came out as... a birria taco in pizza layout. Tortilla circle, birria middle, tortilla top. Meh. To be fair, that birria pizza was the only pizza item on that menu, so it made sense that their pizza just wasn't pizza-ing. We were hopeful for a very different experience this time. Especially given the very clear emphasis on pizza on this menu. Then the pizza came. Not only did it look glorious, a bowl of birria dip sat in the middle of the pizza, completing the birria experience. And it was absolutely fantastic. The birria, the ratio, the crust - everything was delicious. Except, as my friend pointed out, the horchata. It can't all be perfect, unfortunately. The pizza was so good that when we wrapped up the leftovers, a strip of end crust went in with the rest of the pie. Speaking of, I'm definitely ready to reheat all of that now - update: Awesome reheated. :) Next visit: Chorizo pineapple jalepeño pizza!

Marsu Pizzeria: The Battle for the Last Slice…read more I walked into Marsu Pizzeria already knowing two things: 1) I was about to have the best pizza of my life. 2) I was going to order way too much food and have no regrets. The place smelled like heaven--garlic, melted cheese, fresh dough. I took a seat, ready to devour a feast. A cheerful employee--let's call him Tony (because let's be real, every good pizzeria has a Tony)--walks up with a confident smile. Tony: "You ready for the best pizza of your life?" Me: "Tony, I've been training for this moment my whole life." I ordered the house special pizza (because if a pizza place has a signature pizza, you ORDER IT), plus some garlic knots, because I respect myself. The food came out fast, hot, fresh, and smelling like a dream. As I'm one slice away from food coma territory, I see it. The last slice. The holy grail. The perfect combination of cheese, sauce, and crispy crust, staring at me like it knows it's about to be devoured. Just as I'm reaching for it, Tony slides by the table, nodding at my plate. Tony: "You gonna finish that?" Me: "...I was planning on it, Tony." Tony: "You sure? I mean, we could put it up for auction. Bidding starts at one garlic knot." Me: "Not happening." Tony: "Alright, but just know... if you don't eat it in the next 30 seconds, I legally get to claim it." Now, I don't know what kind of pizzeria law Tony is operating under, but I wasn't about to test it. I stared him dead in the eyes as I picked up the last slice and took the biggest bite possible. Tony (nodding approvingly): "Good choice. That's the kind of hunger we respect around here." Long story short, Marsu Pizzeria has the best pizza, the best vibes, and employees who will absolutely test your commitment to finishing your food. Final score? 10/10 pizza. 10/10 service. 10/10 threats on my last slice.
