I visited 6Smith for the first time last weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday, and it did not disappoint! Having enjoyed multiple visits to Baldamar, I was excited to see what 6Smith had to offer, and it lived up to the hype. The menu was overwhelming in the best way--so many enticing options that I knew I couldn't go wrong. The Bread is Life was an absolute must-have: warm, soft, and paired with incredible accoutrements. I nearly ordered a second one to take home! We also decided to share the dry rub wings, and I'm so glad we did. They were perfectly seasoned, juicy, and moist while still achieving a nice crisp on the outside; just how wings should be. For dinner, I ordered the short rib, and I had zero regrets. Between the two appetizers, I barely made a dent in it and had plenty of leftovers to take home. The tamarind in the tomato-based sauce added a subtle hint of sweetness that perfectly complemented the savory flavor of the meat. I'd absolutely order it again, though with so many other tempting options on the menu, it may take me a while to circle back! Since we dined in early February, it was too dark to see the waterfront location, but I'm already looking forward to a return visit for brunch and a summer patio experience. The only downside to my visit was a small but frustrating detail: When I ordered a dirty martini, the server asked if I preferred regular or blue cheese olives. Naturally, I chose blue cheese (because, obviously), only to later notice a $2 surcharge on the bill. I don't mind paying extra, but I do mind not being informed upfront. It's a poor practice that left a bit of a sour note on an otherwise excellent experience. That said, I'll absolutely be back--there's still so much on the menu I want to try! read more

We just made our first visit to 6Smith and really enjoyed it. We live in MPLS and have lots of great food options but were invited to Wayzata to check this spot out. The food was good, very good, but what stood out to me was the staff. We were welcomed multiple times by various staff as we walked in. They were all warm and cheerful. Our server Aeriana was amazing. Again, cheerful, welcoming and exceptionally competent in serving us. Truly, haven't felt this welcome in a higher end restaurant in a long time. The food standouts...the curry shrimp and the flank steak. My husband also enjoyed the salmon. We dined on their beautiful patio which added to the already wonderful experience. It was a great night! Love it here! Amazing food, especially the scallops with gnocchi and the lobster roll. Both are amazing and we have gotten them multiple times. The desserts are MASSIVE and phenomenal. The key lime and the 50 shades of chocolate are a must and plenty to share with the table. The outside seating is beautiful with the lake view. It is covered well with umbrellas so not too hot. Indoor seating as well. Definitely recommend a reservation on weekends especially in the summer. The staff are so friendly. Great food and service! And tastes much better than the pictures! Came for restaurant week and everything was great or very good. The plating wasn't always the most attractive so the pictures don't really do the food justice. Couldn't get a reservation so asked to sit at the bar, and was offered a booth in the bar area, which was perfect. Server gave us recos, and each dish was a hit. For tartare was amazing, and the roasted vegetable salad was very good. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the short rib was very tasty. I came in for happy hour and was completely blown away. The espresso martini was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced--not too sweet, just the kick I needed. But the real star? The lobster sliders. They were to die for--buttery, tender, packed with flavor, and honestly one of the best happy hour bites I've ever had. And the price? Surprisingly affordable for the quality and portion. Quality ingredients, prevail, which somewhat validate the higher prices. Service - Food service was above average, but not excellent. Service at the bars was much better, and more engaging. Had a large group go for restaurant week! As always the food was great! They did switch the tartare from steak to salmon, which was a bummer but we just ordered it off the main menu. I got the meatball and burrata app, the filet and mashed potatoes for my entree and flan for dessert. Really enjoyed them all. The meatball was new and delicious! I shared with a friend and they had the wedge salad which was great as well! We also ordered the oyster, and Bread is Life. It was delicious as always. They did change the dips for bread, now comes with a jalapeño butter, green chimichurri, and blackberry min butter. I liked them all. We had a nice old fashion and delicious red wine to drink. Our service was very nice but not attentive and we were there I would guess an hour longer than we needed to be which was a bummer. They use to have valet but didn't on this night it was a Tuesday. Have been here several times before and most certainly has served me the best steaks I've had compared to similar restaurants. Usually I think steak is overpriced but I'd say it's worth it here! Came for restaurant week with a reservation and waited like 15 minutes for a table as it was packed. A little disappointing but it didn't ruin our night. Fantastic service. The hostess even ran through the menu with us after seating us on the deck. There is not a happy hour on the deck, but the view and weather were perfect. It was quite a lively vibe outside with fun music and a busy crowd. Nate was a fabulous server. He told us about some of their best items on the menu, especially the wine, and even brought me a sample of a glass before I tried it. They offer Caymus by the glass which is always fun! It was midday so we ordered a few appetizers and drinks and they were all delicious and nicely plated. The tuna poke is amazing and they make their chips in house which were thick and crunchy and served with a nice smooth guacamole. Five stars for service. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and helpful with the menu. Five stars for the ambience, especially outside because the views were fabulous. Unfortunately the food missed the mark a bit. Both my husband and I ordered salads (a wedge for him, and the beet + watermelon) with tri tip. Both of our orders of the tri tip were over cooked and dry. It was really chewy and tough to eat even more so because of the delicate salads it was paired with. The salads themselves were good. The grilled octopus was a favorite for the whole table and was shareable. The miso glazed seabass was on the sweeter side and wasn't for our pallet. The scallops, and the chili rubbed chicken sandwich were also ok - nothing amazing about it. The fries were good though. We also got an order of king crab legs which were quite pricey but good. They cut it open for you so all you have to do is scoop it out and not struggle on getting it open. The desserts were both good - flan and fifty shades of chocolate. I think it's about time I update my review for 6Smith! Since my last review in 2020, I've been here a handful of times and each dining experience has been great! The staff is friendly, there's never a crazy-long wait, and the menu is great. The patio at 6Smith became one of my favorite spots last summer, and I cannot wait to spend another summer with friends on this patio. The overall ambiance on the inside is dark, cozy, and moody. It can be romantic, casual, and perfect for a business dinner. I've eaten my way through this menu and everything, so far, has been great. 6Smith always has wonderful ambiance and is a great restaurant to go to if you want a nice view of the bay while feeling like you are in a nice, upscale environment. They also have one of the best happy hour deals in the area and have a broad array of options on their menu. However, the food and service just wasn't at the same level as the price and ambiance of the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and gave us good recommendations, but she did not come back to check up on how the food was and it was hard to get her attention when we needed it. The food was just okay overall. The wings, oysters, and lobster sliders were the best thing we got and was very good, but the wallet bites and poke crisps were just okay. The short rib nachos were actually quite bad and came out soggy and cold. We did not finish them. Also, the water we were served was lukewarm with no ice and I did not get ice when I requested it which I did think was quite odd for a restaurant especially in the summer. I came in Saturday night for a dinner but not just any dinner, I was going to ask a very pretty lady to be my girlfriend. Let me just say the staff that night went above and beyond to make this night one she'd never forget . I told them what I was trying to do and they assured me that they'd make it happen, and boy... Did they. I had flowers dropped off and they arranged them in a nice vase, wrote a card to her, and surprised her with dessert and flowers at the end of our meal. She opened the card and they gave her a gift card. Couldn't of asked for a better surprise. Huge shout out to the staff that made this night special. I've been remiss in posting as we were here the last time on New Year's Eve. I've been here a number of times mostly during the summer months as the location is great for outside eating with a beautiful view of Lake Minnetonka. On New Year's, we had an early reservation with friends. Clearly the staff put in a ton of work to make the evening festive no matter the time of your reservation. Decor was classy in black and gold. Each time they turned the tables they restocked hats, Tiera's, leis, etc. Guests could dress the occasion! A very nice touch. We had cocktails, apps and dinner. A highlight was the steak tartare and miso sea bass. Our friends had the hanger and flank steaks. All enjoyed their meal! Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable. Only downside was she was a bit salesy and became less friendly when we didn't order the most expensive steak of the night. Definitely recommend and will be back this summer! read more

We haven't been back here in a minute! But we made reservations to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary and it was such a lovely treat. Dead of winter but I imagine it's beautiful to overlook the water in the warmer months. Nonetheless, the view of the frozen lake was also stunning! I ordered the prime New York strip and my husband got the filet mignon. We ordered the broccolini, French fries, and mashed potatoes for sides and it was way more than we could finish!! The mashed potatoes were so smooth and delicious, the fries were great and the broccolini was the best I've ever had. First time having dinner here. Overall, a very pleasant experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Came on a Saturday night at 6:30 and had to wait a while to get a seat at the bar where we had a cocktail before our 7:15 table reservation. While we were waiting for a seat at the bar, one of the hostesses went to the bar and got us a couple cocktails which was a lovely touch. Our server was very knowledgeable and had some excellent dinner suggestions. We started with the "bread is life" and the baguette was served with some of the best chimichurri I've had. Followed by the clam chowder which was quite tasty but a bit skimpy on clams. I had the aged filet which was cooked to perfection. Hubby had the ribeye which was good but not great. Not as tender as expected. And the mushrooms were some of the best I've eaten. It was a beautiful day at 3:45 pm on a Saturday. I assumed that I could easily get a drink outside with an appetizer. I was told this was not possible due to prom! After the fact, it appeared the prom guests were inside, so I am puzzled by that line of reasoning. You will probably spend more money than you really want to- but some of the food will inspire the dance of joy. Service was great- went there to celebrate a job promotion and they did a great job at making the evening special. We started with a selection of fresh oysters. They were served beautifully and all delicious. We had some oyster virgins with us- and they loved the oysters! The "Bread is Life" starter paired well with the oysters. The steak tartare as a starter was one of the few misses- it has a bit of a pet food consistency. The miso marinated seabass was a delicious entree as were the ribeyes a couple of our diners had. The pan seared Atlantic salmon flavor paled in comparison to the seabass. The Brussels sprouts were also a standout! Super flavorful and burnt to perfection. Everyone at the table kept stealing bites from the one order. The vibe is relaxed and the music playing in the background was enjoyable classic rock. Our desserts included a 50 Shades of Chocolate cake, key lime pie, and a daily offering- strawberry cake. These were all meh. We had a couple "Brandy Alexander the Great" for dessert- and they were not really worth the $15 each. We never have the chance to eat out on holidays as I usually cook. This year it was just the two of us so we decided to try Easter Brunch. 6Smith does a very nice brunch. There was a prime rib station, entree buffet, salad buffet with oysters and shrimp and a dessert buffet. The food was great and hot. Still full 5 hours later. The calamari is good, but over $20 for 10 pieces? You guys could totally add a little more. I'm happy to pay $45 for that amazing sea bass, but fried food, come on. Restaurant ambiance is amazing. Dined in for a business lunch and 6Smith was the perfect place! Beautiful location with an awesome view of Lake Minnetonka. The inside gave a modern yet rustic vibe. Full bar with plenty of both table and booth seating. The highlight of our visit was the service. Top notch! We encountered quite a few servers due to our large party. They were all so nice very nice and informative. Even the servers for other tables smiled at us all as they walked by. Such a great vibe! Our entire party shared beef cheek nachos and wings for appetizers. Both delicious. The nachos were a tad spicy for me, however the wings were so damn good and perfectly cooked. Star of the lunch. Bread before bros!! We waited almost an HOUR to be seated for our reservation. The only thing they told us was the table before us was over their reservation time. Initially this was a huge turn off since the point of making a reservation is to be seated by a certain time. HOWEVER, once I persisted that it was unacceptable, they got us seated and brought us complimentary champagne. The food??? Speaks for itself and honestly makes up for the shotty service at the start. It's really hard to find steak that is of prime grade and locally sourced in my neck of the woods. A good measure of the quality is a restaurant's ability to prepare the perfect New York steak. 6Smith knocked it out of the park. Absolutely one of the best NY steaks I've ever had at a restaurant. A very nice looking restaurant next to the largest lake in Minneapolis. Being a Californian, I was shocked to discover it offers not only parking space for boats but also valet parking as well. Staffs are well trained and friendly, and the sea bass I ordered was very delicious. One complaint I have is the tables were too close to each other inside. Came for fat pants Friday where you have to have a seat in the bar area only to be able to get. They post the day before on Instagram what they will be serving or the host stand will let you know as well. There are no options for taking certain items off the meal and no sharing or doggy bag with purchasing this as it is a flat $15 dollars currently and sure to leave you full. I arrived at 12:30 and was lucky they still had this option as it can sell out. The food is overwhelming with the amount and the value for everything that they put inside of these options is always worth it to me as the flavors are always well balanced. I'm not sure why they do not let you take home as it seems like such a waste of product but otherwise no other complaints. The bar area can get noisy so having quiet conversations can be challenging but also entertaining as the bartenders are always so friendly. read more
