I didn't push it because she (the owner) was obviously annoyed I didn't like the awkward looking round square shape she had given me. I arrived 30 minutes later and was the only customer there. They took me right away and were very nice, as well as offered a drink. They also had tons of dip powder colors to chose from, which I loved! The technician who did my nails was very thorough and detail-oriented. He recommended tips for my ugly chubby sausage-fingers, but being a nurse, I sadly could not oblige. Nonetheless, he did a splendid job with what he had to work with! They had me soak my entire hand in acetone the whole time I was getting my pedicure (around 30 minutes) in order to remove my previous dipping powder. The entrapped heat of my hands in the hot acetone with a plastic bag wrapped around them sealed in the heat and gave me chemical burns on my hands. I will not be going back. read more

My toe nails were cut as short as humanly possible, and then she didn't even file them so I was sent away with completely crooked, short toenails that weren't even painted to the base. I was coming here for regular sets & pedicures. I usually would show up on a Saturday within 15-20 minutes of opening. The gentleman who would do my pedicures was extremely thorough and detail oriented - I was always super happy with the outcome. The first time I came in, I had a set on from another salon and when I told them my concerns, we decided on a new set. Instead of the typical cut/lift off method - they did a soak off without me having to ask which I appreciated. My nails were lasting 3-4 weeks without lifting or cracking. I was in San Antonio one afternoon with my boyfriend and we ran into so much traffic trying to leave the city going north so we decided we would get him his first pedicure to pass some time. Naturally, I came to Yelp to search for a quality nail salon. Not sure if it's just me, but it seemed like all the nail salons in San Marcos and New Braunfels were pretty hit or miss. I figured it would be better to hop off the road sooner rather than later, so when I came across 5th Avenue Spa & Nails and saw that it was on our way leaving the city I decided that it wouldn't hurt to try it out. Without an appointment, we were seated and served quickly. One thing I don't like about nail salons is when they don't post their base prices online, and I liked how I was able to get a good idea of how much the bill would be off 5th Avenue's website. My boyfriend got the premium pedicure and I asked for long gel nails but got shellac on acrylic nails instead. There seemed to be an attempt to upsell their services but I think that's somewhat to be expected in the service industry nowadays. Initially, I got a bit alarmed when I was getting acrylic tips put on and in my head I was thinking uh oh this is going to be way more than the price I calculated off the website. After I finished I had mentally prepared myself for a disagreement over the bill, but to my pleasant surprise, my boyfriend's pedicure came out to $45, my nails came out to $55, and less a 20% off all services promotion came out to a total due of $80. This is the part where I mention that I'm used to paying just about $80 for my acrylics with gel alone, so to me getting shellac with acrylics for $45 was a total treat. We left in good spirits, but overall I'll say this: I'm not a native Texan and I come from a place where the cost of living is greater, so I expected the nail salons here to be slightly less expensive than at home because of that. However, I found that most salons were at about the same price point. Outside of the big cities (Austin, San Antonio), reviews for nail salons are far and few in between (compared to nail salons in my hometown, many with full Instagram pages, collages of Yelp photos displaying their finest work, and websites that have clearly been blessed by professional web designer creativity). To be charging the same prices without as big of a portfolio of work, a solid backing of happy clients, or as accessible of a website makes me personally feel that getting nails done in Texas isn't worth it. However, if you are in need of a nail salon in Texas, I'd say 5th Avenue is a great place to start. read more

I received a gift certificate from my friends during Covid for this salon. I do not live near here but used them one time on my way to San Antonio and they did a nice job (previous owner). Unfortunately, the timing never worked out to use the gift certificate until I tried yesterday. The man told me that it was too old (there was no expiration date on it!) then he tried to say they have a new policy and they only honor it for one year. So I told him it was a gift, they paid them money and there no expiration date! Then the guy said that there was a change of owners so the old owners have that money and he couldn't do anything. This man did not even try to give me any customer service and offer a discount or try to earn my business!!! It was super slow and not very friendly. I do not recommend this place!!! read more

They answered the phones immediately when I called and helped me find the place because yelp dropped me off on the other side of the highway. I went during the early afternoon midweek and got in immediately. Very nice staff and the shop seemed clean. (First time visiting from Chicago btw) It was my moms first time in 15 years getting a no-chip and she was very happy. The young female tech (I apologize I didn't catch her name) was very gentle with her brittle nails and overall she was please. My technician I asked if she was going to soak off my gel (no-chip) manicure or file and she both said just file the polish. She filed my nails a bit much my usual salon can peel them off without filing if you want (it takes a while but I prefer it). It left the polish uneven in places; which leads me to the too thin application of polish that chipped after one hair washing. They are located next to sleep numbers which helps wi gps. I'd go to them in an emergency but not on the regular. Nice people I had great customer service. update: my no-chip is chipping on every nail. All the techs were busy and very focused on their work, I liked that. I signed in and was seated immediately and offered something cold to drink which was nice with how hot it was outside. I came in for a full set and they asked me what I wanted. I show a picture to the tech and asked him if it was something he felt comfortable doing. I LOVED that he was honest, said no but he'll get me to a tech that can. He started with the drilling and gluing of the nail and then passed me over to Mee Mee. I asked her if the other tech showed her what I wanted and she said yes. She even went over the colors with me to make sure it's what was in the picture. She gave me exactly what I wanted- if not more that what I was expecting. Mind you, I'm the super picky type too. From the colors to the shape to the length. I definitely found my new go to spot and nail tech. I couldn't be happier with my results! If you're on the fence about trying this place, give it a shot. I got a gel pedicure on 03/07 at 4 pm by "King" David. I originally was going in there to receive a regular polish pedicure. I had asked "King" David what the price difference was. He told me that "the price didn't matter", so I viewed their website to view the price. He swore up and down he was the BEST and so were his products. So, I decided to go with the gel polish. Less than a week later, the polish started to peel. A week later, the polish was completely off. I called and "King" David answered. He refused a refund but offered to repolish. I told him that I am not getting my toes repolished because it's apparent that the quality sucks. He still refused to refund, so the manager came on the phone and stated to come in to discuss it further. I walked in today around 2:17 pm, introduced myself, and the two managers as well as "King" David huddled in a circle around me and told me to take my socks and shoes off, one foot at a time. They asked me specific questions about my pedicure as I put my socks and shoes back on. For example, "What polish color did you pick?" "Did he use hot stones?", "Did he scrub your feet?", and I told them he did none of those items listed on the menu. They appeared to be doubtful, so I told them to view their camera footage if they didn't believe me. The female manager told me to take my shoes and socks off again and she examined them once more. They offered to refund me $20 (money for gel polish). I paid $76.50 including tip, which is by far the most basic pedicure I have ever received, and was not about to accept not even 50% of my service cost. I told them absolutely not. They all started to yell at each other. After minutes of them arguing, the male manager asked to see my bank statement to view the amount I paid. I showed him the statement and he tried to take a photo of it and I told him to get his camera out of my phone. He kept insisting to take a photo of my account and I kept telling him no, I would not give my personal information out. I proceeded to say "We can do this the easy way or the hard way. The easy way would be you give me my money back and we are finished OR I go through my bank and write you a nasty review on Google. Which would you prefer?" He then tried to pay me using Zelle and I said "I do not trust you, you will pay me through your card machine." He offered to write me a check because he didn't know how to initiate a refund on there. I told him that was fine, but I'd be back if he tried to pull any janky shit on me with the check. The female manager kept offering me coupon cards and swore I'd have the best service when I came back. Why did I not get the best service when I was there? I told her I was not coming back because the quality was not up to par. The female manager disappeared out the front door mid-argument while the male manager kept talking my ear off. He stated how they are new managers and they have received complaints about "King" David before. Fifteen minutes later, I cashed my check at the counter and walked out towards my car. Turns out the female manager was waiting for me on the sidewalk BY MY CAR. I told her to back the hell away from my car. She continued to swiftly approach my car while I was getting inside and I yelled "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY CAR RIGHT NOW". Her attitude and aggressiveness in the entire situation was beyond. They will be very lucky if I choose to not take further action against them. It was a very nasty argument and it is the first and worst experience I have ever had with a business. I was not going to give them a review since they chose to refund me right there, but they gave me so much hell to get it, so I am. The whole pedicure "King" David was pleading me to write a review and tell everyone I knew about him, so I did, but not in the way he wanted. This place should be shut down. read more

My fiancé was in there to get her nails done on 8/9/2021. She was super excited to treat herself and try a new place. YELPERS BEWARE!!! The guy doing my fiancé's nails didn't even ask her what shape or what she wanted on her nails he just started working ( guy was probably half asleep) and he made a pretty nasty cut on her and continues to put his dirty finger on top of the cut to try to stop the bleeding. Does this guy have no common sense? Also to mention he was on the phone the entire time obviously distracted ( this seems to be a common trend after reviewing older reviews) If you care about your safety do not go to this place.
