I was craving a lox bagel and 5th avenue bagelry is probably my only local option that's not affiliated with a chain. I went with the recommendation of another yelper, Cindy O, and got their signature "fifth avenue bagel", which was a open-faced lox bagel sandwich with cream cheese, capers, and thinly sliced onion on a salt bagel. The sandwich isn't trendy like the insta-famous bagel spots. I respect that this is made to maximize flavor, rather than for maximizing social media clicks. All of the flavor components are tucked under the cover of a generous portion of lox. At the trendy bagel spots, all of the ingredients top the lox; however, at those places, the ingredients rain off the sandwich when you take your first bite. The salt bagel is a nice touch on this open-faced sandwich because it seasons each bite liberally. The bagel is freshly toasted and warm, which contrasts with the cold toppings. There is a jolt of mild lemony flavor, you get creaminess from the cream cheese, and you get a really nice amount of lox. I did ask for extra onions, which are thinly sliced with a mandolin. The only thing that could have made it better is if they added something herby like dill. Overall, I really like that I can get a good lox bagel here and I'll be back. read more

I have been getting bagels for years at this location. The bagels are fresh and delicious. My favorite is the jalapeno and cheese. One doz is $18 and you get 13 bagels. Friendly service. They do offer several small tables for dine in. Plenty of parking. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday morning looking for fresh, in-house baked bagels. Staff were cheerful, with K-pop playing in the background. I ordered a provolone pesto bagel with bacon & egg to eat there, plus a sun-dried tomato and asiago spinach to go. My food was hand-delivered, which was a nice touch. The eggs were fluffy, bacon crisp, and the bagel had a soft interior with a chewy crust. I couldn't really taste the pesto, but the overall flavor was still great. The bagels I brought home stayed fresh for a couple of days. They accidentally gave me another provolone pesto instead of asiago spinach, but it wasn't worth fussing over--they're so tasty I'll be back to try more bagels and pastries. read more

I can't get enough of the lox bagel and the other sandwiches from 5th Ave! The quality of their products have been consistent for as many years as I've been in and out of this place! The bagel options and the sandwich option are great! The staff has always been friendly despite being super busy most mornings! I've been wanting to try this place. It's nearby and gets great reviews. So last weekend my bestie and I agreed to do breakfast at her place and order takeout from here. When I got there they were VERY busy... good sign. I asked what the difference was between the ham and cheese sandwich (on bagel) and the ham and cheese omelette (on bagel. I was told the sandwich was cooked and assembled in stages (egg, then ham, then cheese) and the omelette was prepared all together and served on the bagel. Placed the order, was given a number, and a short time later the food was brought to my table, bagged up and ready to go. Nice. It was still warm when it was opened at my friend's dining table. Although it was obviously freshly prepared and very warm, it had no flavor. So that was a disappointment. I recently had midday rations at this establishment. I had a bagel and lox sandwich and I asked for it without onions and without tomatoes and only a few capers. Also no pickle. It was done as I requested. Good. I also had chips and a soft drink. The washroom was reasonably clean and had paper towels available... good. I have a bone to pick about the appearance of at least one of the employees. At least one of the employees wore his shirt untucked. I consider that to be unprofessional. This is something that I am OCD about so I am dinging this establishment one point. If I was going to assign a letter grade as is done in school, this establishment would get a solid B. read more

Great bagel spot! The bagels are soft inside. Service was very friendly and they have a nicely-timed system where we didn't wait too long for our food. You can also get 1 egg instead of 2 eggs for the breakfast sandwiches. Store is tucked in a small shopping mall and the people there were a mix of local regulars and people who just want a good bagel. I'd just say don't go with the rainbow bagel. I feel like all the food coloring messed with the integrity of what a good bagel it could've been and was very tough and dense. But overall - I will definitely return because even their Water bagels (which you rarely see) were delicious. And I need to try their Sourdough bagel because they were out when I went. read more

Whenever I am in the mood for a bagel, this is the spot. The closest I've come to a New York bagel in Orange County! I will always go for their "Works" bagel-toasted with a respectable schmear of cream cheese! The other bagel sandwich that is my favorite is their #7 Maple Honey Ham- toasted. Be careful since their breakfast and lunch menus are the same, so be sure to differentiate between the 2. What I love about their Works bagel is the small amount of salt that is on it. It is just so perfect and reminiscent of the bagels from H&H in New York! They are polite, and even when there is a rush, they are FAST! It is also fairly priced. This bagelry has a good location on Loa Alamitos Blvd. and an extensive selection of bagels. Unfortunately, those are the highlights. The service is efficient, but impersonal. The sourdough bagel sandwich I ordered was not very sourdough and not fully toasted. The cheese used is American, rather than cheddar, and wasn't melted. The egg and bacon were good. Overall, the sandwich was disappointing. My latte was more of a coffee with milk, than a latte. My friend's latte was cold! (As in, sat behind counter so long before being delivered, NOT ordered that way.) They have tables inside and outside. And they do have nice quality napkins. Was looking for a new bagel eatery, ended up giving this place a try. They had some interesting varieties like strawberry banana and Hawaiian (pineapple, coconut, carrot (?) and raisins (?) but ended up with the cinnamon sugar. Kid had a cheese bagel with cream cheese. Having a bagel with an egg is like $3.99, bagels are like $1.35, with basic spreads being $2.59 but if you want cream cheese it's $3.59. We found the bagels to be a bit bready, was hoping them to be more chewy with the understanding that they were freshly boiled. I did like my bagel with the egg which I found to be fluffy but just lacking something special or interesting to note. Overall, the place is decent but I think I will continue my search for a new bagel joint to spend some time and money at. read more

I rarely waste food, but my bagels went in the trash after one bite each. I walked into 5th Ave Bagelry full of hope. Their case featured an impressive variety of bagels, and they have like 6 flavors of cream cheese. My order was ready in minutes, and I hurried home to enjoy my bagels. Unfortunately, they were both inedible. The egg on my everything bagel tasted microwaved, and the cheese had no flavor. The bagel itself was dense, bland, and gritty, with burnt spices on top. The Rainbow Bagel tasted stale, and was spread with an offensively thin layer of cream cheese. I give two stars because the man working was polite. read more

Updating my review: I'm not sure if due to the time of the day, but I ordered a drip coffee a little past noon and it was watery and cool enough that no steam was coming out. I asked if it would be possible to make a fresh batch, and they offered to microwave my cup. I let them know that I didn't prefer that and so they offered to refill my cup, but they proceeded to give me the same lukewarm, watery coffee. It is a shame because they serve my favorite Hawaiian hazelnut coffee. I hope that they offer fresh, not watery coffee during their entire hours of operation for their customers. I appreciate them hearing me out at least but I wasn't satisfied with the coffee. read more

After moving from LA, I've been pretty disappointed with the bagel scene as I haven't been able to find a place with decent bagels. That's why I'm so glad I found this place today! The service was great and the employee who helped me was super friendly. I got the blueberry, spinach Parmesan, and pesto provolone bagels to try at home. I've only tried the pesto provolone so far but wow it was better than I expected! I love that the dough was light and fluffy (not too dense like many other bagels I've had), and there were poppy seeds mixed into it which really enhanced the taste and texture.
