While the salads here are great, I do not recommend coming here during lunch. The marketing team in my office ordered lunch from here and were disappointed by the order mixup. I went to pick up the food that we ordered via phone and was directed to the back of the line behind the customers that have not yet ordered. Gone are the good old days in which you could get a delicious lunchtime salad for less than $10. Sure, the space was in dire need of renovation, but the menu did not need the same make over. No more Drew Carey, see ya later Buffalo Chicken salad. Salads with any kind of protein are $13 or more, just like any other sit down restaurant in the area. It may be beautiful inside but it's no longer a go to spot for a healthy, inexpensive lunch. Please bring back some of the classic salad menu for take out lunch! read more

I have attended 56 Kitchen multiple times since its opening and have very much enjoyed all of my dining experiences so far. The food has been very good, and the service provided has been even better. During each of my experiences at the restaurant, I received incredible table service and experienced above and beyond effort from staff. While waiting for the meal and after receiving it, our server consistently checked in on our table to ensure that everything was perfect and to let him know if there was anything that he could do to make it better. His commitment to providing the best experience possible for guests was impressive and displayed how much the staff truly cares about providing an incredible dining experience for guests. Additionally, our server, Eric, continually went above and beyond in ways that further displayed his commitment to creating an enjoyable experience for guests. The initial reason that I tried this restaurant was due to the fact that Eric was outside when I attempted to go to a usual restaurant I dine at. This restaurant was closed, and he recommended that I try 56 Kitchen. In the multiple times I have gone back, I have had Eric as a server twice, and he even remembered our initial interaction where he recommended the restaurant. He was very enthusiastic that his recommendation had led to us returning and was glad that we had enjoyed the restaurant. His recollection of these interactions again displayed how invested he is in his job and the above and beyond work he puts in to ensure that guests feel welcomed and enjoy their whole experience. Overall, I would highly recommend 56 Kitchen to anyone who is looking for a great meal with exceptional service. What an amazing lunch. We were out wandering around the east side and stopped for gas, and decided lunch was in order. Yelp led us to 56 Kitchen! Wow! We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by Chelsea. Her warmth and contagious smile set the tone. Her recommendations were spot on. The Chicken sandwich was AMAZING! The Chicken schnitzel sandwich was ok, a bit bland but edible. What I really liked was that I was able to watch the staff at work in the kitchen and see the multitude of delicious looking meals coming onto the floor. This place used to be great when I lived in the area. I recently started a new job which put me back in close proximity to the restaurant and it's really gone downhill. It starts with simple stuff, like pick up orders not even been started when I arrive 30 minutes after ordering. Chips are always burnt. Salads are lettuce fields barren of meat. Once in a while you get lucky and get the old food quality that I was used to, but it seems like the glory days of old are gone. read more

Took my partner for a weekend lunch as I had been to their other location previously and had an amazing burger. It was not especially crowded during our visit but the bartender who was responsible for serving us seemed completely put off by our presence. If not for the host noticing we had been seated for almost 10 minutes without being attended to, we would have left. Took our order with the "what do you want" attitude, and I think maybe returned to our table maybe once for half a second to check on us. Again the host is who refilled our beverages and attended to us. I ordered the special "hot chicken sandwich" which was substandard in both flavor and texture. Overcooked, dry and flavorless. Reminded me of a shake n bake pork chop, but with less flavor. Her burger was cooked to the specified temperature and she enjoyed it especially; the saving grace as I had suggested us eating there. My advice to the bearded dude who was working behind the bar that Saturday: If you're having a bad day, call off. Don't take your attitude to work with you. It's a service-oriented industry and you failed at your main duty. read more

For us "Insurance People" working in Mayfield, Cafe 56 is our go-to spot for a healthy lunch. Seriously, not a week goes by without a Cafe 56 stop! I was there today and ordered the Millionaire salad. Mixed greens, artichoke hearts, strawberries, dried cranberries, crumbled blue cheese and chicken...Yum! Their taco salad is also one of my favorites (and also the daily special on Thursdays) but I had to pass it up for a lower-calorie choice today. Damn diets! I have come here several times over the last week and the salads are delicious. Buffalo chicken Salad Yum! There are so many different choices and they cook the food to order(10 minutes tops). I would have given it 5 stars; however after 20 minutes I still didn't have my food today. When I asked about the status(because my coworker got his before mine and he ordered after me) they said they couldn't find a ticket for my salad. Great place to grab a quick salad. Came here and got the longhorn salad, which I would recommend. Not sure how healthy the majority of the items are on the menu. The inside was very nice. Good lighting. Not to dark. The service was very slow. Took over 5 minutes to get our drinks ( water and soda). The food was not good. It had no flavor which was a surprise because we use to love the Cafe 56 food. Our kids asked for cheese burgers and they did not put the cheese on the burgers. I asked for this to be corrected. The MANAGER bought out something that looked like cheese but not 100 % sure. Looked like melted nacho cheese. The server never cleared our dishes when we were done. The refills never happened. Now if the restaurant was busy I would over look this. But there were only 6 tables seated when we came in. I would not recommend this location to anyone. Food is good just expensive and they charge you for every add on which seems silly because it's in most items. Simple things like enough dressing for your salad would be nice when paying $10 for a salad. Staff although busy doesn't have to seem so rude they rang up my order in correctly and when I ask them to correct it on the bill they charged me for an extra salad I was at first argued with and told 3 times its correct until she actually looked at it and then corrected it. You have to wait waaaay to long for what type of restaurant this is and what kind of food they make. They make made to order salads that aren't very complicated at all yet my coworker and I had to stand and wait for about 30 minutes today on our lunch break for a salad that consists of lettuce, chicken and cheese. Not to mention out of the three people working minus the girl ringing people out only one person was moving at a pace that seemed acceptable for a lunch rush. The other girl stood at the grill and watched the chicken cook while she ate pieces of food out of the bags without gloves on. Another thing that was pretty gross was her not wearing gloves to put the food onto the grill and handing the guy prepping the salads cooked chicken (that went directly onto people's salads) with the same hand she just grabbed the raw chicken with. Kinda nasty I probably won't go back which is unfortunate bc the salads are actually good but I'm not trying to get sick or waste my entire lunch break waiting for a salad. read more

I really hope the Owner Jay reads this. This is a salad place, they make salads. Shouldn't be that hard. Our office has been coming here for 4 years, and finally decided to say something. First, the staff..they have 1 good employee, the rest are lazy and just don't care. No pride in doing their job. The house dressing is different each and every time I order it. Somet times it is thin, sometimes gelatinous, and some times just oily with no flavor. Brown lettuce? Why can't the lettuce be fresh and crisp. Good salads but the place has its shortcomings and gets a little worse every year. For starters, the place looks very dirty and the tables are never clean. The furnishings are in bad shape. Many of the tables are held together with duct/electrical tape (yes, I'm serious). They have switched from steel utensils to plastic even if you eat in. The walls have chipping paint, etc. etc. I used to love this place, but when the front half of a restaurant looks like this, you really have to wonder about the parts the customers don't see. read more

Take out an item you've created #19, add different dressing to #3 there you have it! I only get to Café 56 once every couple of months for lunch. I was needless to say taken aback when the cashier remembered my name. This place does really appreciate their customers. They may not have instant service but my salads have been tasty. The salads have a unique flavor much different than the chains (such as Panera). ROASTED CAULIFLOWER is roasted to just tender. You can taste the flavor of each ingredient. Toasted almonds, brown butter and golden raisins and they all marry beautifully. Same can be said of the MARGARITA PIZZA. Rich taste of roasted tomatoes and delicate flavor of Buffalo Mozzarella and fragrant basil flavor. Kicks Crostata's (another local eatery) butt! Crust a little tough but enjoyed the pizza flavors just the same. I'm new to Margaritas and thoroughly enjoyed the KITCHEN MARGARITA. Perfect balance of sweet & tart with kick of the jalapeno & brightness of the cucumber. I had 2! comfortable casual atmousphere with tables, high tops and bar seating. Comfortable level of lighting. Very comfortable noise level considering all the hard surfaces. Server attentive and knowledgeable on menu item prep & ingredients. Drinks took too long to get - 14 minutes for 2 Margaritas and a bottle beer. This is review of Mayfield location but have also enjoyed Solon spot. read more
