My friend and I visited 56 Kitchen for a quick lunch stop on a Saturday afternoon. Located in a strip mall plaza, the space is on the small side but it doesn't feel too crowded. I ordered the Banh Mi Bird which has brined crispy chicken, pickled vegetables, cilantro, Japanese mayo, sriracha agave, all on a baguette. It also came with fries. My friend ordered the vegan banh mi. Everything was good- but the only thing I would adjust was the sriracha agave. It was way too sweet and it was very sticky. I wish I had known because I would have ordered it on the side instead of on my sandwich. My friend felt the same way. Other than that, we had a good overall experience here. Was traveling through Ohio and stopped for dinner at 56 Kitchen restaurant with an open kitchen concept where you can watch the chef prepare your food. I liked the concept that they use locally sourced ingredients, and their recipes are made from scratch. We were greeted and seated in the dining area quickly upon arrival. The restaurant has a modern mechanical vibe with very interesting light fixtures. The staff was very kind and attentive. I ordered the grilled rainbow trout with spinach-rice sauté, roasted brussels sprouts and citrus brown butter and walnut brittle. I had high hopes for this entree but was a bit disappointed for the price point. The fish was bland with very little flavor and I did not taste the brown butter or see any walnut brittle on my dish. The portion size was substantial with 2 fish fillets but the flavor was not there. The salmon avocado hand held with grilled salmon, cherry tomato, mixed greens, sweet lime aioli, avocado spread served open faced on house focaccia with a side of house fresh cut fries. The Harvest salad with mixed greens, seasonal vegetables, goat cheese, and candied walnuts, all tossed in a house vinaigrette. This was the favorite of the dishes. Overall a fun modern restaurant with a great farm to market concept, but could use a bit more flavor. read more

We had a fantastic dinner here last week! Upscale, yet relaxed vibe with contemporary American cuisines and a pizza lineup. Our server was absolutely awesome -- super quick to grab refills at every turn, helpful with menu items, and extremely kind! Our food was spectacular, especially for the price. I had the chicken schnitzel with Brussels and onion rings. The highlight? The lemon sauce on the schnitzel brought everything perfectly together. Would absolutely recommend this combination! My wife ordered a veggie burger with fries for an early dinner and a French Kiss salad to go. All were phenomenal. Price-wise, this is an incredible spot. Service was good. Our waitress was very nice. The 3 stars are dedicated leaning towards the service, however, the food.... The wings weren't completely done and they took them off the bill, once something isn't fully cooked, I don't want to try again. Crazy thing is the cook legit argued with the waitress, who agreed that they were not done. I appreciate her being accommodating. The spinach and artichoke dip gave Alfredo more than dip. We were also rushed to order because they had a big party coming in and we would have a long wait if our order wasn't in before theirs. We arrived at 3:04 just in time for happy hour. The hummus was $8 and perfect. A good sized serving came with veggies and pita. The veggies were not tiny little slivers either. Then came the $10 house burger that is normally $16.75. Cooked as ordered to medium rare and couldn't have been better. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. So this was our first visit to the 56. The lighting is bright and the decor is somewhat industrial if you will. The service was not the best but I attribute this to the management. When the staff is not set up for success it's due to management not providing enough support. Something that has always bothered me when dining out is having salads or appetizers come out with dinner it makes for a cold entrees and a crowded table. My burger had a good flavor but the patties were somewhat rubbery. The fries were crispy, hot, and not too greasy. All in all not a bad experience but nothing to make want to rush back. read more

It was my first time here. We came as a party of five. We were welcomed immediately upon entering and were 15 minutes early for our appointment time. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit at the high back chairs and we declined a d we were sat immediately at a better seating option. The good: My salmon handheld was flavorful. The burger was also tasty as were the potatoes. The pasta dish was pretty good. The house fries was hot and fresh and kinda reminded me of penn station fries. The bad: We were not attended to for long periods of time and had to wait 20 minutes for the check after we were done eating. The location had a decent crowd, but not too busy. The ugly: the pizza. It was terrible. Too much cheese, not much sauce and the sausage was poor quality. The pizza was for the child in our party and it's really bad if the child doesnt want the pizza. $18 for a small pizza with poor ingredients is a waste of money and time. I went here for dinner the other night with family. The restaurant is smaller and cute. I do like the concept of an open kitchen where one can see the chefs cooking, but since it's small, the smell of whatever is the next order takes over the entire restaurant which can be nauseating at times. Our server was very nice and attentive. The food & drinks were a little lackluster. The Diet Coke was flat, we told our server who said fixed it, and it was still flat. They were out of a lot of what we wanted to order so we had to pivot last minute. I ended up with the open face salmon which was just ok. Fries were nice and crisp but certainly on the saltier side. The restaurant was small but nice . Our waiter was kind and very knowledgeable about what's on the menu . We did ask for his suggestions. We did let him know that my wife didn't eat meat. He presented some nice vegan options, but my wife settled on the salmon burger. I got the double smash burger ( waiter suggested). We started off with an appetizer ( cauliflower bites) which was very tasty. You can have the cauliflower bites tossed in a variety of flavors. We landed on the sweet Thai sauce . Both of our sandwiches, were good! Very flavorful, but a bit messy. We had to ask for extra napkins because soon as you bite into the sandwich your hands will get soiled for the flavor and juices. The sweet Thai chicken had the perfect balance of flavor, the wings were on point, and the steak tacos were packed with flavor. There were 4 of us for dinner on a Sunday. Including ours, there were perhaps 5 tables being served. Two of us shared a pizza and dinner salad. The pizza was ok, nothing special. The salad was too large for the plate, and although the waitress knew it was being shared, she only brought one plate. The pretzel bagel with the salad was greatly underbaked. The vegan sandwich was OK. There was no portobello mushroom on the sandwich which was very dry. The redskin potatoes were burnt and bitter. The house burger was decent but not really hot, and the fries were warm at best. The service was awful. The servers were congregated in a corner of the restaurant not paying attention to the customers. Food placed on the heat lamp area sat and sat for nearly 15 minutes. Soft drink refills were not offered. An appetizer ordered before the entrees came out at the same time as the main coarse. The server was absent and disengaged. If you're looking for classic but trendy American food in an upscale atmosphere, I highly recommend giving "56 Kitchen" a try. This is one of two locations in the greater Cleveland area. Their newer location is on Aurora Rd. in Solon and the one that I am reviewing is their original location roughly 10 miles north of there on the corner of Som Center Rd. and Mayfield Rd. in the Mayfield Heights neighborhood of Cleveland. It is located in a busy strip mall that neighbors a "Five Below", "Old Navy", and "Ulta Beauty". I arrived during the evening of Thursday 9/14/2023 at around 5:30pm and was looking for a filling meal to get me through the rest of the evening. The parking lot can get quite packed mainly due to the high amount of retail establishments and eateries in this area. After parking, I proceeded to enter and was immediately greeted and seated in less than 2 minutes. The interior layout had a rustic, industrial look to it complete with an interesting hanging chandelier ceiling display that resembles a globe figure. There was ample seating throughout, a dedicated bar, and even outdoor seating for the more comfortable days. Their menu had a modern yet extensive variety of options including quite a bit of appetizers including hummus, chicken wings, fried mozzarella, spinach artichoke dip, and much more. They also have about a dozen different salads , a dozen different sandwiches, and even 8 different pizzas to choose from. Their drink menu also offered quite a few choices including red/white wines by the glass or bottle, craft beers, and non-alcoholic options. I ended up going with one of their most popular options, the "Pick Your Plate" (priced in between $18-27). I chose the "Balsamic BBQ Grilled Chicken" with "Field Green Salad" and two sides of my choice; "Garlic Mashed Potatoes" and "Roasted Brussels Sprouts". Even though it was dinner and a packed house (for a Thursday evening), my plate arrived in roughly 10 minutes. My waitress, Shannon was also very accommodating by making sure my iced water was filled up. As far as the taste of the chicken, it was just okay for me; I really couldn't taste any balsamic flavor as the BBQ sauce overpowered everything else. However, the mashed potatoes were made perfect with the right amount of garlic. And my Brussels sprouts has a delicate roasted flavor with hints of garlic; very similar to the way my mom made them. All in all, "56 Kitchen" in Mayfield Heights is a decent above average restaurant that focuses more on healthy options. They have a very respectable vegan and gluten free alternatives to their pizzas. When you factor in the ambiance (which is lively and upscale), decent prices, above average service, and food that can be hit or miss depending on what to order, I am giving 56 Kitchen a respectable four-star rating. read more

The employees are so friendly and always making good conversations! The atmosphere makes you feel like a fun family reunion! The food is great! I often try the new specials each week. Thats where the chefs bring their best to the table! But above all that is our bartender, Julia! She is very personable and polite! In a relaxed setting, we've experienced her laughing with her customers while being attentive to their needs! And when its get busy, I enjoy watching her speed under pressure! It's quite impressive! We ordered food from the Mayfield store had it delivered by Uber and the order was completely wrong. When I called the store the manager and the receptionist already knew that we had received the wrong order. The manager's only solution was I could send somebody out to pick up the correct order or I could basically f off. I have eaten at the Solon store many times and found it lovely the staff amazing at ensuring that a person with severe allergies does not get cross-contamination etc. However, I will not be ordering anything again from the Mayfield store or even probably eating at it due to the lack of customer service and care they show in fulfilling their orders. Took my family out for a pre-Easter lunch at the Eastgate location. One of my friends has a serious dietary restriction and clearly requested no onions on his burger. Unfortunately, the double-stack burger he received was covered in smothered onions. He ended up discarding one of the patties entirely and tried to salvage what he could of the other. When the server noticed that he had only eaten part of his meal, she jokingly said, "You should've just ordered the single patty." Only then did she realize the kitchen had ignored the no-onion request--but instead of apologizing or offering to fix the order, she just laughed and walked away. The sweet chili sauce on top was more sweet than spicy, but still had a great flavor. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip which was very rich. Definitely could have ordered an additional side of pita with how much dip there was. For the sandwich we ordered the short rib grilled cheese. For being called a grilled cheese, it wasn't as cheesy as I would have liked, but was tasty nonetheless! They also have pizzas and quite an extensive salad menu which we didn't try.
