Here's what went down they came sat themselves down after ignoring the please wait to be seated sign and being told where to sit. They were approached and told where to sit because the bar was full and it's only 3 or less per party at the bar. The staff who were working did not yell nor scream or were rude in anyway. Low price for Sushi is generally a formula for disaster when it comes to Sushi. Generally you can't have your cake and eat it when it comes to getting the best sushi at a low price so relatively speaking if you do compare this sushi place I would compare it to other restaurants that are based on low pricing. Full transparency, I am a sushi snob and particular when it comes to details of presentation, quality and taste. To those who love this place, more power to you. That being said, my daughters boyfriend and I were craving sushi that evening and we wanted to give this a shot since our normal Sushi place was not doing dine in and my favorite place was a bit far and was close to closing time. The sushi pricing was basically $2.50 a plate off the moving turnstile for you to grab from. The first thing I noticed was limited choices. The second thing I couldn't determine what each plate was. I would look at the menu but it wasn't very clear so we would just choose based on how it looked. My friend pulled the first plate and it did look like normal sushi but it was vegetarian which was a bummer for him so again you may experience this when going there. It is a bit hard to scream out to sushi maker what item is when it is moving away from you, lol. I did order my normal item that I get when going to sushi restaurants and this was seared salmon nigiri. This was good, can't complain or justify it being the best but it did the job. Long story long, presentation and how the sushi is rolled was ok. It was a bit loose and would fall apart on some of our choices. I saw him pulling the rice and making the sushi from start to finish and my conclusion was the rice was causing this to happen because of how it was cooked. The quality of the fish itself, well it didn't get us sick but again it was ok. My friend totally didn't like his rainbow roll which he didn't tell me until we were in the car. He said he kept on eating because he thought I liked it and didn't want to ruin our time. The fact was I didn't want to be rude since I thought he liked it also so I also kept my mouth closed to not ruin his time, lol. The bottom line, this is either equal or a little better than grocery made sushi I.E. Market of Choice or Whole Foods. My friend said that the grocery store sushi was better than what he had which I disagree. I gave a 3 star not 2, because the service was definitely a 5 star and the sushi wasn't disgusting it was just ok compared to other places I have ate. Sorry no photos. I wasn't to excited about the meal so my enthusiasm to take photos were not done. Will I come back? Maybe. I just won't be returning soon. My friend said never again. Really really good sushi. It may not be the best I've ever had, but it is really good quality and tasty. We visited UofO to move our daughter in and passed by the restaurant, which isn't far from the campus. Decided to give it a try based on the ad in the window. So glad we went! Every single plate is $2. Even orders, not just items on the conveyor belt. Everything was fresh and tasty. My husband and I can't leave a sushi restaurant without paying at least $45 or more. We spent a total of $20 and were really full. The staff is great. Very attentive and helpful. Great atmosphere. Definitely caters to the college crowd, but we saw and made friends with many other parents there that night. This is a must for sushi lovers. read more

I actually really love "conveyer belt sushi" places. Mainly because I like to have a bunch of different rolls instead of paying $12 for just one roll. For the price, the sushi here is actually quite good! I hate to give low stars for such cheap food, but as others have said there was kind of a dirty feel. And the cooked rolls are way better than some that have sat out. I mean I really don't have many complaints. I spent $10 and got to eat 5 different rolls! I'll probably be back when I'm in the mood for a quick sushi lunch but I wouldn't come here on a sushi date. First off, SHOUT OUT TO MY WAITRESS ZOEY! She was super nice and helpful. Checked in on us multiple times and made sure everything was good. We ended up at 541 Sushi as our third choice, as our first two sushi picks were closed. The restaurant was moderately busy for early evening on a Saturday, with most patrons sitting around the sushi train/bar. We wanted to sit at a table but when the hostess/waitress did acknowledge us from across the room, she sat us at the bar. It's possible that with their limited staff, that arrangement was easier for them and it seemed that other than the two sushi chefs, there were only 2 servers. The bar stools we sat on were very well used and cracked which doesn't seem very nice. The menu, while it has pictures of the sushi options, wasn't clear with what was being presented. I.e. there were 3 different colored plates but that apparently didn't mean anything for price or what type of item was on it. I couldn't connect most of what was passing us to the items on the menu. Also it didn't seem like we could order individual items, even though they are on the menu, but again I could connect that to the staff being too busy. Anyway, the food: We tried 7 plates, and with the exception of the gyoza, they all tasted the same and were rather bland. One or two might have been on the train a bit too long. The gyoza was better but I think that was only because it was deep fried. We decided not to get our full meal here, it was just too disappointing. I haven't had so much fun binge eating in a long while. While the idea of $2 sushi is somewhat frightening, there seemed to be a full restaurant every time I walked by Sushi 541, and no reports of death. So when the decision between burgers and sushi came up, I decided to take a chance. with my life. Sushi 541's belt was always varied and full, and if I wanted something that I didn't see out, all I had to do was ask the chefs, who would immediately prepare the item, and put extras out on the belt. Seeing tuna and salmon poke with grated white radish on the belt was particularly exciting to me, but I also enjoyed the spicy salmon rolls, and the abundance of fresh avocado in much of the sushi. I was impressed by the variety of plates- there were mackerel, albacore, unagi, tako, ebi, squid, scallops, fried calamari, seaweed, hamachi, tamagoyaki, tobiko, salmon roe, edamame, baked mussels, fried sweet sesame balls, moon pies (teehee), and about four million other items that fail to come to mind. The fish varied in freshness and quality (for example, the salmon was much more fresh than the mackerel), but the overall quality of the meal was pleasing. The sushi isn't, say, Mame-quality, but it's easily Market of Choice takeout quality. At $2/plate, your meal will be affordable, varied, and simple to calculate. On top of that, you'll be able to experience the rare and cherished feeling of leaving a restaurant so full of sashimi you can barely move. :) So Eugene has too many sushi restaurants (so people say). Well, not nearly enough of them are cheap, and located downtown (!) Sushi 541 occupies both a wonderful space downtown and in my heart. read more

Mostly bar seating with 3 booths attached to the belt and tables surrounding the exterior. Waiters are awesome, always refilling drinks and asking if you would like any specific rolls made for you. Sushi chefs always seem to be your typical Hispanic sushi experts. Wasabi from powder and light/regular soy sauce at the bars/tables. First time I went I thought "kick ass, a new sushi belt in town that caters to my shitty caucasian palate." My expectations lived up after gorging on California and tempura rolls. Nom nom! Second visit I thought, must have been some good shit so let's give it a real whirl. I had some poke, surf clam, rolls with raw salmon and of course the goddess of sushi -- tempura fried california goodness. Avocado rolls that passed by this visit were nearly all brown. Could you do me a 75% discount and I'll eat all of that browncado for you? That's where I'm contemplating on my return. On one hand this stuff is like the nectar of the gods and cheap. Downhill slide. I was a regular here from when they opened. I had some sporadic old rice and stinky fish experiences, but never enough to turn me off. I recently went in with 2 buddies on a Wednesday night and that all changed. It was a slow night and the selection was sparse. We all watched as the same plates went round and round. There were several that looked old and very sad--like the avocado had turned black sad. That's when one of the sushi makers started pulling them off of the belt, removing the covers, and simply squired sauce all over it to cover up the nasty old food. The covers were replaced and the plates sent back out on the belt. I said to the guy "that's disgusting " and he just shrugged and replied "I don't know what to tell you, that's just what we do." Cheap sushi but not worth it. I walked in on a Friday evening solo as the rest of my family had separate plans. I was excited to finally be able to eat all the sushi my heart desired for cheap. Of course I went at prime dinner hour so the place was pretty packed. I was seated at the conveyor belt area smack dab in the middle of two separate parties of people who made it very clear that I was invading their space. I told the waitress/hostess that I would be happy to wait until more space opened up since I did not want to deal with the death stares from the patrons on either side of me. She told me that there is a specific spot and it was mine. I sat down and both parties were hogging the ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce tins which was irritating and it became a race to see who would grab special rolls off the conveyor belt first. The party to my left was a group of loud U of O college students who were slightly inebriated and hadn't showered in a day or so. Now onto the food. I hope you like CA rolls because that was the majority that was offered. The plates and their lids looked like they all needed to be put through multiple cycles of the dishwasher. The sushi itself was ok but like I said, not a lot of options. The patron next to me did request special rolls a few times and the sushi chef happily made them for him. That same sushi chef also took great joy in making fun of the hostess and other staff that would pop into the sushi making area. Pay the extra money and go to a real sushi restaurant that takes pride in the quality of their food versus the quantity of food. 541 Sushi Bar did seem the prime spot for college students trying to eat cheap before a long night of partying. read more

Literally the most I've ever paid for different versions of a California roll with plain mayo topping (or mayo mixed with sriracha). I would even say grocery store sushi is better. We ordered one cucumber roll that on the menu is listed as 12 pcs but in the box there was only six.
