I want to start by saying that we have been dealing with 518 Auto for years, and it has always been our go-to place since they first opened. We have typically worked directly with Kyle, the owner, especially because our children drive these vehicles and he truly values safety. This time, however, we worked with Mark. Things started off well. I made it clear that the vehicle was for my son, and initially, Mark seemed attentive. He even asked for a Yelp review while I was signing the paperwork, but I prefer to wait until the entire process is completed before leaving a review. Unfortunately, after the paperwork was signed, the experience went downhill. The vehicle needed servicing because the battery would not start. Mark informed my son that a part had to be ordered and that the car would be ready on Monday or Tuesday. Monday passed, and on Tuesday (1/13/26), Mark texted my son stating the vehicle would be ready at 1:00 PM. When my son and husband arrived on Tuesday, things became frustrating. They were told that the temporary tags Ms. Hall had prepared were misplaced. My husband also noticed that Mark seemed more focused on selling cars to other customers rather than assisting the customer who was standing right in front of him. It felt as though my son and his vehicle were no longer a priority since the paperwork was signed. When the car was finally started, it became clear that there was no gas in the vehicle. Mark continued running the car despite this and stated he was too busy to get gas, yet the car could not be moved off the lot. The car eventually ran out of gas right there. Mark then said he would send someone to get gas. After waiting for some time, someone arrived with a gas can, filled the vehicle, and Mark said everything was fine. However, once my husband got into the car to finally leave, he realized that the windows and radio were not working. Because of this, we were unable to even check the heating and cooling to see how it worked. My husband went back inside to inform Mark, but instead of addressing the issue, Mark told him hold on, made a phone call, spoke briefly to others, stated he was leaving, and walked out leaving my husband standing in the parking lot without any explanation. Before my husband could become more upset, AJ stepped in thankfully. I want to sincerely thank AJ, Alex, Ms. Hall, and Scott for stepping up and helping us through this situation. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. They worked together as a team to help resolve the issue. While we are still waiting for the vehicle to be fully serviced, AJ and Scott went above and beyond by providing us with a loaner car in the meantime. I purchased a 2005 Prius a week ago do $4,000 + $1,000 in fees (including a $999 processing fee) and after driving it for a few days: - I had to oil the car - The check engine light and Prius triangle light (Master Warning Light) came on, which indicates a serious issue needing immediate attention I took it to a mechanic to read the codes, and he said the dealer probably wiped the warning lights before selling it (codes: p0a1b and p0420). Then I took it to the Toyota dealership for diagnostics ($208), and the initial repairs will total $4,500 -- and then they need to check out the hybrid system after! BUYER BEWARE - 518 Auto Sales (Norfolk, VA) On October 29th, I purchased a used vehicle from 518 Auto Sales in Norfolk. I made it clear that I was buying this car so our youth football team could safely travel to games and events. Even knowing this, the dealership showed no compassion or concern for what they were selling. The same day I drove it off the lot, I didn't even make it past the gas station before the car started having serious issues. The dealership agreed to take the vehicle back and make repairs. After 50 days, I finally received the car back on December 18th. The very next day (December 19th), I had it inspected by an independent mechanic -- and the results were shocking. The vehicle has: * A disabled/removed check engine light * 8 active engine fault codes * Multiple serious mechanical issues * A car that should never have passed inspection When the mechanic attempted to manually trigger the check engine light, it would not come on, confirming that it had been intentionally disabled. Even worse, the Carfax shows repairs that were supposedly performed by the dealership -- but they were never actually completed. Despite all of this, the dealership is now hiding behind "sold as-is" and claiming I must "prove" they knew about the problems -- even though the car was in their possession for 50 days and the warning system was clearly tampered with. I am also active-duty military, and I will be reporting this dealership so they can be blacklisted from military sales programs and so other service members do not lose their hard-earned money to this kind of business. This has been an absolute nightmare. PLEASE do not spend your hard-earned money at this dealership. They wouldn't give him his money back and tried to give another POS of less value. I've heard recently from peers they are still the same guys pulling the same crap. So I went undercover pretending to want to purchase a truck in 2025. I asked if I could take it and pay Priority Ford (which a mile further down the road) for used car pre-purchase inspection and they wouldn't let me. Update: My car has now resulted in repair costs of thousands of dollars and more to come. The transmission gave out and needed to be replaced. That alone was over $3k to replace. Now the ignition isn't working properly; The key gets stuck and I have to pop open the board under the shift to manually make the car park. The belt by the engine now screeches and the engine light is lit up on the dash board. I love my car and I'm taking care of her. I'm just grateful to be in the military so the marine relief society is able to help me cover the heavy costs. But for those who aren't as fortunate, do not buy a car from this business. As my daughter and I were on the hunt for a used vehicle for her, we stopped by 518 Auto Sales and was quickly greeted by one of their associates. He sat us down at a computer and asked us what we were looking for in a vehicle and our budget so we can view their inventory. He was very attentive and even told us which vehicles to stay away from which I thoroughly appreciated. After he wrote down a few cars for us to view from their inventory, we were escorted out by the sales associate who was very friendly and helpful. We were able to freely test drive the cars which I liked. My daughter was fascinated in a Jeep that was on the lot but after test driving it, we noticed a weird jerking feeling in how it drove and it seemed to have some mechanical issues. The sales associate did point out some other cars for us to look at that were within our price range but unfortunately, she didn't see any that caught her eye. I did like that they had a large variety of used cars for sale and the associates were very knowledgeable but from the issue with the Jeep and the other reviews of this business, I probably won't return back to this place or recommend it. read more

Regret not reading reviews first, been in talks of a car for over a week, I don't live locally but have a friend who does, after setting up a meeting hours prior, he drove half an hour to go look at the car just to be told he's not allowed to because a "deposit was JUST made on it" (been on the lot 3 years, zero warning or notice of this deposit) at an undisclosed time today, when he tried to leave, the rep stopped him and tried to get me (on the phone) to outbid the "Deposit" of an undisclosed amount on the car I already said I was willing to put 85% down on same day after inspection. If the deposit was even real, simply a disingenuous slimy dealer, if it's fake, straight up illegal. After reading the reviews, if they decide to change their mind and actually honor their word, It's going under the condition he can use an OBD scanner. Owner seems to simply apologize for the rampant issues at his lot rather than actually try and solve any issues. read more

I bought my first car here and I took my stepdad who knows a lot about cars. He got underneath the car in the cold wet rain, and he took his flashlight look in the engine, undercarriage, spare tie, everywhere and said it was the cleanest used car he'd seen on the lot that we looked. The day after I bought the car he noticed a leak coming from the oil pan. They said they won't fix it since we bought as is, but the cleaned it so well that they hid the oil leak. Also they never mentioned that the windshield was replaced and repaired. So when somehow it got a little crack in it, and I called to get it repaired the technician said it's been repaired before and so it needs to be replaced. I bought this car and the $1000 warranty that is level 1 and it doesn't cover the windshield. 10/10 don't recommend buying a car from here. People that sold me the car were friendly but I won't be recommending this place to anyone. If there was a zero star option I would choose it. read more

I am currently shopping for a car for my daughter as she will be turning 16 very soon. I don't have a lot of money but I found a vehicle online which looked like it was within my price range. I emailed the dealer, 518 Auto Sales, chatted with the "bot" & received a text message verifying my interest. With all 3 of those (chat, email, text), I stated I would like to test drive the vehicle & asked if the vehicle would be on site & ready for a test drive when I got there. I never got an answer, even though the appointment was already booked. So, about an hour before my appointment, I called 518 Auto Sales because it's about a half hour away from my home. I didn't want to make the trip if I couldn't test drive it, as I had already stated several times. I spoke with someone, I know his name but I'm not going to blast him, but he informed me that the vehicle was there & I would be able to test drive it but said he had to locate it. Now, as I said, 518 Auto Sales is a half hour from my house so I drove out there, expecting to test drive the vehicle. I was greeted & treated pleasantly by another employee. When I told him who I had spoken with & that he would help me, the man who greeted me said that the employee was busy with another customer & that HE could help me. After a few minutes, they located the vehicle, it was in the back but apparently was just recently traded in & has transmission issues so it was not driveable!!! Are you serious? I made an appointment several days ahead of time, the appointment was for a test drive & even spoke with an employee who told me it was there & ready to go, drove a half hour after work only to be told, "We have lots of other vehicles available." Uhh, no! I'm here to test drive the vehicle I inquired about several days ago! I didn't raise my voice or lose my cool. I purchased the warranty along with the vehicle. Did a test drive, everything seems fine. However, a week later, the engine dies, luckily I got the warranty (or some kind of fake service guarantee BS). They would not honor that warranty or document, they would not even check if the vehicle was within its contractual obligation (This is just as bad as those telemarketers selling warranty). I even sent the vehicle to have a mechanic look at it but I would not get any help from 518 Auto or the warranty service personnel to follow through. 2017 Dodge Durango Was sold a Dodge Durango that came with financial hardship and no one to turn to. TJ successfully scammed me out of thousands of dollars for his selfish gain. We looked at many cars as TJ puffed his THC vape and complained about the amount of cars we looked at. Many of the cars have cosmetic damage and some didn't start. The Mazda 6 that we were interested in initially didn't even start! Tj brought out a battery charger then made false claims that the battery was disconnected. Since when do we "disconnect" batteries on lots where cars are on show case to be sold. Tj ensured we would miss any defects with the car by limiting where we drove for test drive. The issue with the 2017 Dodge Durango is that when you approach speeds around 40 miles per hour, the vehicle shakes violently and the check engine light flashes as you drive down the highway. TJ was aware of this issue as he manipulated where we drove stop light to stop light to avoid those issues to show themselves. I recommend 518 be invested for fraud They bring no value to the Hampton's roads area. This is the nightmare dealership of the community. read more

I have owned many Lincolns and Cadillacs in my lifetime and for me they're pretty easy to work on as far as 98 to 2012 series. They had a 98 Lincoln town car there and they wanted top dollar for it so I went to go check it out. And I went underneath the chassis took a bunch of photos and approach three different reps. At first I play dumb and tried to lowball them, then I busted out the facts... bad brakes, bald tires, rusted, oxygen sensors, crusty fuel lines, and the shittiest airbag conversion for the rear lift assembly I've ever seen. I mean, they literally put a spring in there without the proper boots, no shock absorber like literally if somebody hits a bump that spring can fly out and someone's getting into a car accident. Bought a truck one year ago. It was not inspected and it took several weeks to finally get the truck from them fully inspected. Then it took another several weeks to get the title. Drove the truck for a year and now it's time for inspection and it won't pass. It needs $7000 worth of work to pass. Frame is rusted out. We only paid $7000 for it to begin with and it's a 20 year old truck. We're going to trade it for about $2500 and put the money into a better car. I bought a 2015 Kia optima from here and the staff was very helpful. All the cars here have a carfax report so you can see when a vehicle your about to purchase is well maintained and if your getting a good deal. The Kia optima was a few thousand less than what the carfax report marked it valued at. The car has a few scratches but that was address before hand and I'm okay with it. Love the way it drives and would definitely recommend this place. Usually I do not trust any dealership but I trust this place now. read more
