Few tables line the walls, but if you're lucky enough, you can claim one right before the lunch rush, when PNC employees raid the place and the soup sells out. If you stop by frequently enough, Charlie, Matt, or another employee might learn your name. The baristas are kind, personable, and have always made any mistake right. Forget the decadent desserts, hot coffee, or savory sandwiches; I keep coming back because I feel respected here. LaGourmandine is tasty, no question. But at this location? It's particularly loving and feels like home. There is free Wi-Fi, and no better place to get work done while enjoying lunch Downtown. My only complaint: be sure to say whether it's for here or to go when checking out. According to an employee, a small paper cup holds more coffee than a small ceramic cup. But coffee tastes much better in ceramic; I hate when it's mistakenly poured into paper.

Sigh. I saw that they had ceramic cups, including espresso sized cups. I ordered an espresso for…read morehere. And then they handed me a paper cup with a plastic lid. So disappointing! I try so hard not to waste materials with single use cups. I carry a travel cup. If they had only had paper cups, I would have given the barista my travel cup. I explained this, and she poured it into a (cappuccino sized!) ceramic cup for me. The espresso is good, but I prefer the espresso at Yinz, so probably won't come here again. That said, the quiches look really good here...

I can't say I've had many donuts from donut shops across my life, but these were the best I've had yet. I got lucky on a Friday morning before Fourth of July and had some luck that they weren't completely sold out. I went in and only wanted a glazed doughnut to see if they were as good as everyone says, but I left with a good variety of donuts, all of which were incredible. Each staff member was incredibly helpful, and helped me pick based on stuff that I like. They could definitely charge a lot more. This place is super cheap. You Will be seeing me in that morning line very soon to try some more

6/14/2026 Dozen…read moreAssorted - 5.2 It's not worth it. The early wake up, getting in line an hour before opening, them being sold out within a few hours. Showing up this early only for people ahead of you walk out with 3-5 boxes at a time. The hurdles aren't worth it. Now, if someone else brought them to an event and had them available - I would not scoff don't get me wrong, I'd have one (maybe two). I just can't get on board with this place philosophically. The mystique and purposeful scarcity of both selection and what leads to closing quite early is at this point trivial. But it appears the scarcity is the appeal. This is (currently) the NFTs of donuts. We got an assorted dozen and my wife and I were both of the mind "these are all average." Though we were aligned and agreed their Old Fashioned donut is the standout. That one is extremely cravable. Frankly, our experience left so much to be desired that we're content not to go back. I'd recommend not wasting your time either.

Just brought home a Burnt Almond Torte that I requested some Raspberry drizzle and whether he could tell I love raspberry drizzle or its a common request- he LOADED the top... and OMG... was it delicious. My wife loves Cannoli's and they have some of the best in Pgh. Be sure to stop in here while strolling Mt Washington, you won't be disappointed.

It's kind of a cross between a whipped cream and buttercream. They have a great assortment of pastries, cookies, cakes and more. Today I bought a Memorial Day cake but seriously considered adding the babka bread, which looks like a long danish. I inquired about the chocolate one and was told it was filled with chocolate and hazelnut. Next time for sure. I can often find an easy parking space around the bakery but if not there is a lot across the street, make sure to still pay via the Go Mobile PGH app. The individual cupcakes are piled high with frosting and so decadent. I also find prices here very fair. They have also recently added a little section to the store with Pittsburgh souvenirs for anyone on Mount Washington visiting the city. The interior is a little dim and dated and could use a refresh imo but the treats are first rate. Pro tip, if you are on the Too Good 2 Go app, they frequently offer a surprise box of leftover pastries from the day. Look them up and sign up for notifications because you will need to be on any drop from them right away or it's gone.

I saw display cases that contained cupcakes, scones, rolls, cheesecakes, brownies, blondies, etcetera. I purchased four baked goods: one cinnamon roll, two cookies, and one muffin. After I paid several dollars for my four baked goods, I noticed several slips on the wall. The employee said that the slips were prepaid and that customers could use the slips to receive free foods. How nice! I appreciate whoever paid for those slips. I ate my four baked goods at home. The snickerdoodle cookie (5 stars) was one of my favorite snickerdoodles that I have ever eaten in my life. The cinnamon roll (4.5 stars) was a large size and had a sweet maple flavor that I liked. The banana-caramel muffin (4.5 stars) was nicely sweet and was topped with a banana chip. The oatmeal-raisin cookie (4.5 stars) was medium-sized and had the right ratio of ingredients. Overall, Sugar Butter Bakery's selection of baked goods was not large, especially in the late afternoon when I went, but their quality was high. I recommend stopping in Sugar Butter Bakery if you are in the area.
