Walked into the Lacey store carrying a big, black, useless brick. The tech diagnosed a dead power supply and replaced it then and there. MISQUOTED. Brought in my laptop because it wasn't powering on. I put a $175 deposit down. They said basic the diagnosis service was around $60 dollars and if they had to do a more in-depth search it would be more. They told me they'd be in contact we me by Monday. I dropped off my laptop on Thursday. I had to call them the following Thursday because I had not heard anything. Finally they told me my motherboard had crashed. They told me they had found a replacement and that my deposit would cover everything. When I came to pick up my laptop I was told I still had a balance of $151. When I asked about the remaining balance, they told my deposit only covered the service. I told them that when they called me, they told me my deposit covered everything and that they misquoted me. The guy in services, even though it wasn't his fault I'm sure, didn't seem to care about my concerns. I ended up paying $327 total instead of what I was quoted for. I get it. Computers are expensive to fix. However, I would've expected an updated balance. When I receive my computer back, I was not able to turn on the WiFi. I called back to speak with the manager. I told him about the whole situation. He told me he could take out the part and look into getting a refund for it. I brought it in thinking I was going to have the part taken out. When I arrived they told me that it was too late to get the part refunded and they would not refund me anything. Over all, terrible customer service and communication. I feel they are a dishonest and careless business. read more

These people fixed the PC I knew I had too much emotional attachment to. I built it and didn't get the cpu cooler seated correctly even though I knew better. I took it to them since I knew I hadn't made a rookie mistake (cough, cough) and I needed professional help. They hooked me up and got me working again. I cannot believe I made such a simple error but I also knew I needed impartial expertise to remove my ego from the repair. It ended up being a faster and surprisingly cheaper repair than anticipated. I ordered several computers from them over the past 15 years. Consulted with them for a short period of time and they configured and built what I needed for a reasonable and competitive price. I have also visited them several times for technical help or to buy peripheral accessories and parts. Always satisfied with their customer service and technical expertise. I made a mistake today with the bios in my Dell computer, which I use on a regular basis for my work. The result was a black screen, a computer that would not boot, and no way for me to fix it. I thought I might be without my computer for a while. I called tech at 4th Dimension Computers to see if it could be fixed. I had purchased a refurbished computer from them a couple of years ago (a different computer), which was still working, but my main computer was down. I have also purchased some computer parts over the years I have been in Olympia, so I know they are good at computers. I spoke to Nathan on the phone, and he told me to bring it in. I was cringing at the idea of the expense of this repair. When I got there, Nathan was pretty busy, but once he got free, he came over to the counter and started to look at the computer. I told him what I did to get into this predicament, and in a few seconds, the cover was off, and he said that he might have a quick fix that sometimes works. About 10 minutes later, I was walking out the door with a working computer, and a smile on my face. He could have said I need to leave it, and charged me a lot, but instead, it was fixed right away. If you want people who are knowledgeable about computers, and are honest, 4th Dimension Computers in Olympia is the place to go. 5 Stars from me! read more

Small jobs do not seem to be very important to them whatsoever, but making you a full-sized desktop for $$$ is a different matter. I have dealt with 4d for many years since moving to the Oly area over 16 years ago. They have always been very helpful and have given me lots of good advice over the years, many times not charging me for fixing little things. I was thrilled when they moved to Lacey, as I hate going downtown Oly. It is great to have a local company who has people who are very knowledgeable. I don't know about the bad reviews here. People need to remember that we are all human. Humans make mistakes sometimes. I went to pick up my LG laptop around 2:15 today. They lost my charger, looked all over the place for it, never found it. They gave me some other charger, but I'm sure it was not mine. I reviewed it and and told them that that wasn't my charger, so they said they don't get LG laptops often and; therefore, that was mine. I said this was the first time something got lost when I had taken a laptop to repair. The guy's answer was, "feel free to go another repair shop next time"... He never apologized or show any kind of concern about having a customer waiting for around 35 minutes or so. I don't know if their shop is good or not, but it didn't seem like to me. I just went there because I'm new to this area, and didn't do my search before hand. I regret it now! This was a BAD experience to me. read more

And he fixed my laptop that still have a couple of minor issues with, and he provided partial refund (for virus removal portion) to equal value to the amount they originally I was told for the service (malware portion). Really irritating! I brought my son's phone with a cracked screen in on Saturday and the Tech. In the back looked at it and said it would be 85 bucks and then he had me wait to confirm he had the part he needs says yes and so I come in today to drop it off and there is a different guy who says we Do not have the part and we could order it but it will take at least a week and charge extra and even then it might not work. I do not recommend this place at all, it has taken a month to get a screen replaced and a virus scan. I have had to call and follow up numerous times and they do not call back, not a small local business worth supporting, the technicians are unhelpful, difficult to communicate with and slow. read more

I bought my little used workhorse of a laptop from them at least three years ago, and have had one problem with it, and they fixed it all for me today for free, at the counter, with no wait time. After this laptop gets too old to go anymore, I will go right back down there and buy another used refurbished State of Washington laptop again. Terrible, terrible customer service. Maybe it's equated to the fact they hire staff members that have no social skills at all. dropped off my laptop for a power tap repair. Was told it would be about a week to get completed with the shipping time. I called 9 days later to check on the status. Once again was told laptop should be finished in a day. Called the next day to find out the wrong part to repair my laptop was ordered. I told them that is unacceptable and I am not paying for the shipping or the cost of the wrong part. Why pay for something that is not your fault? When you didn't do the right research for a generic laptop power tap. That pissed them off. I didn't call to check because they said it would be another week for the right one to come in. Now I get called, 8 days later, only to be told that the package my repair part showed up in had been ripped open and no product was inside. But yet i'm treated like it was my fault for asking why they have substandard parts outlets and shipping issues. So after I was hung up on 3 times by I believe Garnett, and once by someone named Eli, I decided in order to get my laptop fixed and back to me I had to sit and wait until they decided to fix it. I'm glad this is over and hope NO ONE ELSE DEALS WITH THE SAME CRAP I DID AT THIS BUSINESS i'd pay premium prices for good parts, service, accountability and integrity at another place before going here ever again. My mother purchased a new computer from this store. Ever since then it's been nothing but problems. I wish I'd been with her when she first bought the thing as I found out they build their own computers. It's been back for repairs twice and now, less than a month later, the sound isn't working. So I have been going to this place since 2009 and have seen a continual decline in attitude and out for only profit. You can see this out for only profit in how many people work there. One day I 8 people plus the manager. So yes this store is over charging you and the reason it is, is because it is trying to support everyone and its mother. I've purchased two computers over the years from them. Initially things went pretty well. The second purchase was a disaster. I got it home and it wouldn't load up. I took it back and left it for diagnosis. Several days later they called me and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I said I didn't want it because it wasn't operating properly. I asked for the owner and discussed the issue with him. I told him I didn't want "that" computer and wanted a new one which is what I paid for. If he couldn't comply, I wanted my money back. He agreed and turned me over to a sales person. He told me it'd be at least a week or 10 days as there were other orders ahead of me! I said he needed to put me at the head of the list as this had been going on for several weeks and I was not sold a computer that worked. (I don't know if he understood what had transpired or not.) He finally agreed and I got a new computer that worked. It was a horrible hassle. Any time I took the computer in for repairs they acted like they didn't care whether I brought my business to them or not. The waiting time to get my computer back always seemed too long...I don't want to wait a week to have it repaired. Repairs were spendy to my way of thinking. I initially went to 4th Dimension as I want to support local businesses...but not one with these attitudes. So I'll never do business with them again! read more

I brought in my laptop to have a diagnostic test done. I called several times to tell the service department that I was coming in to pick up the laptop and that I wasn't going to have any repairs done. No one answered the phone. I left a message and emailed the store several days before I picked up the laptop. My phone message stated that I would pick up my laptop on a specific day. I left my name and number. No one called me back. No one replied to my email. I went in to get my laptop. It was disassembled. I was told that I would have to come back later if I wanted to have it reassembled. In addition, I was not pleased with the disrespectful attitude of the workers. As I was getting my laptop (in several pieces), another worker stated to ensure that the paperwork includes "lots of disclaimers" since my laptop wasn't in one piece. read more

I am very disappointed. I bought my old laptop in to have the hard drive cloned over to a solid state drive which I supplied. I had just reinstalled Windows 7 to the old drive and then I ran into problems doing the clone and thought I should have a professional make sure it was done right. The price seemed reasonable, $50.00. When it was done, they called and said it was ready to pick up but for some unknown reason Windows Update was not working. Not to worry, they could fix it! Normally it would be $80.00 but for me, just this time, they could do it for "only" $40.00. I asked what could cause Windows Update to not work and was told it could be any number of hundreds of things but it was probably something very simple and it could be fixed.... for a price. I was skeptical to say the least. If you have no idea what the problem is, how can you tell me you can fix it for a set price. Could it be you know exactly what the problem is, that it is "very simple", actually non-existent, and you're just trying to milk me out of another $40.00? Sure enough, when I got home, Windows Update seemed stuck on 0%, 0 out of over 200 updates downloaded. Naturally I Googled "Windows Update won't download". One of the first suggestions was simply to reboot, and another common remedy was that when Windows Update has a large number of updates to download, it will show 0%, even though it is downloading updates. Voila!! I rebooted and this time Windows Update showed only 150 updates to download. It was downloading them after all. These guys work on these computers all the time and if I can figure it out, they surely know what's going on. I was looking for a computer shop I could trust but I guess I'll have to keep looking. Oh, yeah, and when I arrived to pick it up my brand new high capacity lithium ion battery was completely drained. read more

Computer couldn't open windows anymore, took to 4th Dimension, dropped off. 5 days later they called & stated that they could not open Windows, they could save my music, documents and pictures but would have to wipe hard drive completely. The 'tech' doing it told me he saw that I had a ton of music, pics and documents, said he could save them all. When I picked my computer up 3 days later, none of that stuff was there, i called they aasked me to bring it back. The up front tech said the backup was done wrong. That's it. ^ days later I picked up my computer (again) and still nothing. They lost everything! None of the things they said would be saved on backup was to be found. Other than a few pics and 5 songs, they lost everything I had! Obviously the backup was done incorrectly. My recovery CDs are no good because the backup was done wrong so he didn't save that info before wiping hard drive clean. No one accepted accountability other than giving me a refund for the backup amount (only) and the 'tech' said he was sorry about 5 times as I left. The Windows program they reinstalled freezes repeatedly all day long. I'm still out approx. $150, my computer is junk compared to what it was. I kick myself daily for trusting this store. I would never recommend this shop to anyone, ever. Just about the money, could care less about your losses. I accept my responsibility for not having a proper backup done at home but when they called and said they saw all my stuff and could save it,I thought it wuld be ok. Then they lost it all, kinda hard to swallow and no recourse whatsoever, my stuff is gone and they got their money. DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER TO THIS SHOP. read more

I took a lap top into 4th Dimensions computer to see about getting it fixed, as I had dropped it from a table top and it was making a noise when i would turn it on. When I arrived the tech. plugged my computer in and heard the noise it was making and said yes its definitely the hard drive. Said it would cost me about $80.00 to open it and check the hard drive. I was fine with this, and he printed a piece of paper and said I need your initial and signature here. So I signed the paper and left. Two days later they called to let me know that the hard drive was broken and it would cost me about $400.00 to try and retrieve data from my lap top or I could send it in to the manufacture. So I went today to pick up and pay for my lap top to get in there to find it was like a $129.00 bill the $80.00 just to take the screws out and then he told me $39.00 to do a diagnostics test. I was livid ! I am tired of these business like this giving you the estimate over the counter and then charging something else when you go to get it. I argued the extra charge and the manager still tried to convince me of this fee, I did hear him saying to the worker that this is a real grey area as he walked out to talk to me. PEOPLE CHECK YOUR FEES BEFORE YOU LEAVE THERE..........Yes service is usually quick but I think trying to take advantage is not right.......I mean he plugged it in and saw and heard what it was doing before i ever left it....And to charge me 80.00 to take screws out? Wonder if I have the option to take the screws out before taking a piece of equipment in? There will never be a next time so I do not know the answer to this....I know now to check other places out !!!!! read more
