My husband and I have used this computer store for years. Our 15 year old computer died and we went to them to buy a new one. We are elderly and my husband uses the computer for simple things, his email, surfing the internet. The young man who helped us directed us to a refurbished computer that was reasonably priced. We purchased it, they transferred our data and we picked it up with a very helpful employee who advised us how to set it up. Both young men were kind, helpful, patient and were not condescending. Paid a lot of money for them to just sell me a device to read my hard drive. $49 for just receiving the laptop, $79 for them taking the hard drive out and reading it (with my help giving them the key, of course), and another $27 to buy the device to read my hard drive. Should've followed my instincts and just bought the device from Amazon. I could've done all of that in the amount of time it took me to drive to the store. Live and learn. read more

Took it to these people and they diagnosed and fixed my issues rather quickly, understanding I not only work remotely but am a full-time grad student and rely on my computer daily. Updating - first, their new location is great! It seems more focused on tech service, for which they are top notch. These reason for my update and moving them up to a full "5" is the people that work there. They have countless times solved my technical issues. Last week, an obscure one was resolved. I am a fine art photographer and use a hand held light meter for critical exposures. My 15 year old light meter can connect to my laptop via usb cable in order to calibrate the meter. Over the last few years, I lost the cable. In those 15 years, a zillion types of USB cables are now in use. Finding THE replacement on Amazon or the like would have been a crapshoot. An $800 meter would be limited for want of a few dollar cable I go to 4th Dimension, the nice sales lady looks at the meter, opens a drawer full of USB cables that she has been recycling. "These are hard to find so when we take trade ins, I hang onto things like this just for needs like yours. No charge!" Can't ask for better than that! read more

I found friendly & highly competent folks at 4th Dimension on both the repair & the sales sides of the business. Communications with their staff were excellent and timely. I dropped off a laptop with a hinge that had lost its screws, making opening & closing the laptop difficult. Nick also identified a screen bezel separation problem I hadn't spotted, but was obvious when pointed out. Quoted price looked tentatively within reason to proceed, with the understanding that final cost could be higher depending on parts costs. It turned out that the screen bezel cost raised the total out of my comfort zone & into the range where replacing the laptop with a newer model became viable. So Nick had me stop back & pick up the laptop at no charge for their time & effort researching a solution to my problem. Now that is fine customer service! Lady on the sales side was friendly & helpful in providing info on various laptops & desktop computers they had on display, as well as the other computer accessories available. read more

This is a public shout out to Tumwater Computer Repair, and a PSA to beware of 4th Dimension! For many years we supported 4th Dimension, so when John's laptop wouldn't charge we went there. They told us the laptop was shot and that the charger was fine. We gave them the laptop to dispose of. After being referred to Tumwater Computer Repair by a friend ( thank you Joey at OlympiaResale Warehouse), we went in search of a new laptop. Alex told us it was probably the charger...I had kept it so he checked. We immediately went back to 4th Dimension and retrieved the laptop which we then took to back Alex who proved to be correct. He charged the laptop and helped me order a new charger on Amazon. He saved us hundreds of dollars and didn't charge us. We will NEVER go back to 4th Dimension! Amazing little shop of wonders! Nathan helped usher my investment in PC Tech into a new, "state of the art" machine. I can't say enough about Nathan's expertise, honesty, integrity, and knowledge of PCs. My PC now has a new motherboard, Intel processor, 128GB of memory, 26 terabytes of disk space, spanning seven drives, a new liquid cooler, and Windows 11. Not impressed with this place at all. Go with anyone else in the area or make the drive to Tacoma instead. Called to find out how much it would be to do a data transfer from an older laptop to a new one (we are not tech savvy at all). Had to go through a long telephone prompt and then sat and waited, and waited, and waited for over 5 minutes for someone to even answer the phone. When someone finally answered we were told 39.99. Ok, seems legit since we don't know how to do it ourselves and we don't want to lose data, music, etc. We drop the computers off and two days later get a voice mail message saying our older computer has the newer version of ios on it and the new computer needed to be upgraded. They then said it would be 39 to do that. I don't know a lot about computers but I do know that it takes a simple push of a button for ios to download the newest update (would you like to update now? - annnnnnnd tap yes and wait a bit and voila you are done). 39 for this? Seems like serious gouging. We assumed the new laptop would have the latest update otherwise we would have done it before dropping it off. So, I called back (got put on hold for only 3 minutes this time) and asked, nicely, to make sure I understood the charge correctly. The attendant got snippy with me and said, "it has to sit on our shelf while we update it - I don't understand the big deal with the charge". Uhhhhhhhh. Ok. I guess they can set their unfair prices and I can go somewhere else with my business. So we picked the computers up today, I upgraded the system (very quickly and easily) and found someone else to do the data transfer for 10.00 cheaper and with a day turn around - when I was told it would be several days here. I understand they are seemingly the only game in town - but look elsewhere. I like to support small local businesses but price gouging and non existent customer service doesn't warrant support. It appears that several others feel the same way after reading reviews for this place. read more

These people are terrific. They listen and don't treat you like an idiot when you ask even the most basic questions about your laptop or desktop. They don't overpromise and will call you when issues arise that neither they nor you anticipate. I feel completely safe leaving my machines and data files with them. read more

I mostly buy computer parts from them they are very helpful when it comes to computer building. They mostly have a small selection of motherboards, fans,PC cases (mostly Fractle Design), Processors ( not the high end ones) a few graphics cards, Hard Drives and old pc parts. They never ever return calls. You have to call, call, call, nonstop until you get lucky that they answer your call. Whether you leave a voice message or not, they will 100% never return your call. They are all extremely lazy "workers" who seemingly do absolutely nothing. I understand having a few lazy workers, and I can sympathize with that, but if every single one of the employees are *this* lazy, nothing will ever get done! You need at least ONE motivated worker to tell everyone "Hey, we have work to do!" Then maybe something will get done at this place. Do not go here. I really hope potential costumers will visit this Yelp page before being scammed by these people. If you need something fixed, beware that it will take many months and a price gouge to get your item back. Before even looking or understanding my issue, they charged me hundreds of dollars and did not even give me a receipt. read more

I believe I have previously reviewed 4th Dimension Computers but I really felt a need to give them some love in the form a great review. I've had an ancient windows PC for a LONG time and felt it was time to upgrade. I stopped in on several occasions and finally bit the bullet to buy. the pieces I purchased weren't the top of the line (or highest priced for that matter) that they had on hand but would suit my needs for a long time to come. with the parts picked out the gal behind the counter asked if I had the time for them to assemble it all. my mind went to "you're going to put this in my case for me?" when she really meant bench test everything. I hope you laughed at that... I sure did just now writing it out. they did assemble the pieces on the bench and that didn't go as they expected as a BIOS update was needed before it would all work as expected. this took longer than the sales department thought it should and she kept checking in on the techs doing the deed. as a reminder you're going to pay closer to retail here but you're going to get the support of a great local business. buying here and having them update the BIOS so they could test everything before I took it home made all the difference in the world to me. it meant I could get all installed in an afternoon and know it was all working. read more

Dropped off my computer mid August for a swollen battery/battery replacement. Went in on September 26th and was told the battery was ordered 9/21 and wasn't in yet. Took almost 6 weeks for a battery replacement. Now the battery will only charge to 66%, which was not a problem before. All of this with no communication, I had to go talk to them to get information. Additionally the "customer service" individual I spoke to must exceptionally be bad at computers if he's that bad at customer service but that's where they have him working in the location. He was incredibly rude when I was upset the battery hadn't even been ordered for over a month, was later told he's the one who orders parts. Figures. read more

I once bought two computers from them (over a number of years) as I believe in supporting local businesses. Waits for repairs always seemed quite lengthy. The last straw for me was the purchase of the last computer. I got it home and it wouldn't even boot up! I took it back, left it and was called several days later. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. I told them what problems I was experiencing and they acted as if they couldn't have cared less. I asked for the owner explained the problems and said they either build me a new computer or refund my money. He agreed to build me a new computer. I was then turned over to someone else who told me the wait would be at least a week as there were other orders in front of mine! I said either they put my request at a priority or give me a refund. What a nightmare! They finally complied. read more

I brought my wife's laptop in because it wasn't charging. I checked the power cord prior and it had no power that, that I could tell. I wanted a second opinion and brought it to 4th dimension for a diagnosis. The pompous bearded guy jiggled the power jack and told me it would be $220.00 minimum to fix. I asked if he could check the cord and he again told me it was a loose power jack. Today I got my new power cord from amazon and the laptop is charging. I would have liked to support a local business but the fact the service guy wouldn't even check a power cord, and had to be a douche nozzle the whole time I will not goto 4th dimension again. I've really appreciated the quick help and support provided at 4th dimension. They hooked me up with an incredibly affordable refurbished computer to finish school with, and even after the warranty was over, they were quick to help affordably get my computer back on track after a Microsoft meltdown. One warning, these are your typical computer guys, not a lot of small chat or BS. They get to business and get you out the door, so if you're looking for someone to gossip about the Kardashians with, I would suggest going to one of those big box stores. If you offer my fiancée $500 for a computer which is better than what you sell for $3000 and you say "its because you don't know if it will move". You offer $500 though - it is more than an insult, you are trying to con someone. If you are a store and you are not interested in buying something, that is one thing. I have been a loyal customer to the Yelm 4th Dimension store for well over a year, since 4th Dimension took over Maple Park at the 1st Street/Yelm Avenue shop. As a cyber security student who goes to school online, I need at least two laptops that I can depend on at all times for school access. The worst of scenarios happened this month, when my beloved Lenovo suffered a registry failure, and my backup laptop began to die a slow and painful hard drive death at the same time. Dustin and Steven from 4th Dimension in Yelm, and Emily from 4th Dimension in Lacey, helped me so much during these past two weeks. Over many phone calls and a few meetings with Dustin, I decided to leave the Lenovo upgrade to a lesser extent, for the money would purchase a brand new laptop with many more years of upgrade capabilities. Emily helped me at the Lacey store pick out the perfect laptop--one with a classic keyboard and major upgrade capabilities of the hard drive and RAM--and she sent it to Yelm for a data transfer free of charge. Steven walked me through the final payment and introduced me to my new laptop, on which I am typing this review. (Steven is also pretty damned funny.) Over the past year, I have had a few repairs done at the 4th Dimension Yelm store. Shane, who has moved on to Microsoft, was our first guru, and he helped me with a few computer issues (via the teenagers living here). In total, I have used the services of the Yelm store three or four times, and I have never regretted doing so. Dustin and Steven are really nice, and like Emily, they treated me with respect. The prices for services are what I would consider to be congruent with any other computer repair service. The store is clean. It is not open on Mondays, but it is open on Saturdays, which is kind of cool. If you do Saturday shopping, you can utilize the non Mon-Fri hours. Because of the courtesy of the employees and the fact that the work they've done has proved to be worthy, I will consider the Yelm 4th Dimension my first go-to for computer repair. read more

Nearly 5 years ago I needed a new computer, one with lots of horsepower, because I practically live in Photoshop, working on huge file sizes. Ned, my salesperson, helped me with configuring my machine. I had to prod him to upgrade some of the components, because he was trying to save me money. When it came to selecting a case, there were many models to choose. The one I liked best was painted red, so I affectionately call my 4th Dimension Computer "The Red Rocket", because it flies! Here it is 5 years later. I had one occasion to call on 4th Dimension Computer, about a year ago. I just couldn't get it to boot up. When I arrived at the tech support desk, I had to wait no more than 5 minutes for help. Turned out 4th Dimension Computer discovered that I had inadvertently put The Red Rocket to 'sleep'. Ooooooooooops on my part. That support after 4 years was still included in my purchase price. Guess where I'll be going for my next computer? 4th Dimension Computer, of course. I HIGHLY recommend these pros for competence, integrity, quality and price. read more

These crooks stole my computer. They confiscated it after repeatedly charging me for imaginary parts and their service. When we finally had enough and went to pick up our computer, they said it's their rule to take away your computer after they call you once and you don't return their call. They never called, in fact they never answered the phone or called us back after repeated calls. And what does calling back or whatever has to do with taking someone's private property, a computer that has all your private information too? Identity theft? This is against the 4th Amendment Rights, according to this even the police can't take your property especially your computer without a warrant. Did they have a warrant to take my computer? Wtf? I called the police and I am taking them to court. How does anyone take your property from you? We paid them for repairs in full upfront and then hundreds of dollars for parts that they never ordered. Then they stole my computer! This is against my 4th Amendment Rights! I am not only suing them for my computer but also pain and suffering plus the money I paid for a new computer because they wouldn't give me back my computer or fix it or even answer their phone. And Jerry the manager is never in so we kept going in and was told he would call us the next day which never happened. Do not leave your stuff with these people unless you want to give it to them after you pay almost $1000. Thieves! I will get my computer back or they will pay a lot more and wish that they never stole my property in the first place! I want my property! You will give it back! This is an updated review. I brought in my pc quite a while ago about 7 months. They concluded that they couldn't fix it so they just gave it back to me. Not too long after I figured out the issue myself. It has something to do with my motherboard standoffs. Absolute garbage business when I brought my pc to 4th dimensions they didn't even bother to take out my motherboard!!! A 17 year old kid figured out the issue before anyone else at 4th dimension could. I advise absolutely no one to ever step foot in this store. read more

I brought them a laptop that needed repairs. They gave me several different stories about what was wrong. I needed it fixed for my kids to use. I was required to pay a deposit of 150 and told to leave it. A week later it wasn't fixed n I owed more. When I asked for an explanation they said I misunderstood.
