We had our roof and garage deck redone by Ovi and his team. We would 100% use 4GC again and highly recommend to anyone looking. They were efficient, communicative and friendly. We were amazed how fast it all got done and both areas look great! read more

Ovi and his team installed a new set of front-porch stairs for us and we were incredibly happy with the result. Ovi was quick to get back to us when we first reached out and we had no issues setting up a time for the project. While working, they found out that the old stairs were more rotten than expected, but stayed late to make sure the extra work needed could be completed. It was a pleasure working with Ovi and we would absolutely reach out to use him again whenever we have another project! read more

This review is a little late, but we wanted to get good before and after pictures when our deck was fully set up for the summer! We contacted Ovi after getting several (incredibly expensive) quotes to renovate our condo roof deck. Ovi was very responsive, honest and reasonable with price to replace all our old, worn deck boards with Timbertech, and doing some enhancements like building a shade structure and outdoor counter for entertainment. We did experience some delays during all the logistics chaos of 2021, but the team was quick to get things moving when materials arrived (and ended up coming to work in the fall/winter). There was a little back and forth on pricing for a new set of fencing between our condo units, but overall we are thrilled with the end result and are enjoying our new roof deck this summer. Our family and friends have given us a TON of compliments on the new space. Thanks Ovi and team! read more

Ovi and his team were amazing and do extremely good quality work. They were responsive and timely! Will use them again for sure

Ovi and his team dismantled and replaced our front steps within a three day timeframe! Our old stairs were falling apart and were definitely bringing down the curb appeal of our home in Andersonville. 4GC installed a beautiful set of stairs (for which we've already received numerous compliments) that will match our new siding immaculately once finished this fall. We were impressed by the professionalism, quality of work and attention to detail provided. We will definitely be reaching out to 4GC for any future needs, as we will have many. We are owners / operators of multi-family apartment buildings in the Western Suburbs. We hired 4th Generation Construction to remove and rebuild 8 patio balconies on our 11 unit apartment building. We have worked with MANY contractors over the years and Ovi and his crew are hands down the best. They arrived at the job-site every morning by 8 am and worked until late into the evening and weekends. We were also promptly notified if they were delayed due to weather / rain. Ovi was extremely knowledgable when working with out somewhat difficult village regarding permits. The final product is absolutely beautiful! I wish all our contractors were as good as 4th Generation! read more

We used Ovi for a brand new build out of our garage roof deck. I was impressed with his material options, his honesty about timeline and communication throughout. His team that did the work were meticulous and kept the site incredibly clean. They also all followed covid protocols super well; wearing masks throughout and every time I interacted with Ovi he was socially distanced and masked. My husband used to install decking like this (but admittedly didn't want to take on a roof project) and commented on how perfect the instal and finished product were. If we end up adding on with a pergola, Ovi will be our first call read more

Ovi and his team did wonders on our rooftop deck. Our old deck was worn out to say the least. We actually brought in Ovi last Fall to look at a possible roof leak (which his father fixed in less than a day) and we talked to him about possibly redoing the deck the following Spring. He sent us a quote the following day which was faster than expected. This past May, we signed the contract for 4th Generation to redo our deck (60' x 18') . Upon signing, Ovi let us know that it would probably take 7 - 10 days to remove the old deck, install the new deck and build the pergola. It took them less than a day to tear out half of the old one and replace it and another day to finish it, so in two days, we had our new deck! Then they took a day to build the structure for the pergola. They actually did a custom side for us which looks great in 4 days of actual work. All in all we have a great new deck, the work they did was very fast and very well done and they couldn't be nicer to do business with. I highly recommend 4th Generation Construction for any work you need done; they will certainly get my business again. read more

We engaged with 4th Generation Construction for a second project. This time we had Ovi build a deck on our 35th floor balcony and could not be more pleased. Clean, courteous workers came to our condo and we hardly noticed they were here. Because we have full sun for most of the day, Ovi recommended a sub brand in the TimberTech line that would deflect heat as much as possible. This ensures we could walk on our deck without burning our bare feet.. They were in and out in 5 hours and we are very satisfied.. Our deck looks great. If you are looking for decking, pergolas, etc.. I highly recommend 4th Generation Construction. read more

We had three wood decks that we wanted to replace with composite decking. After we called, Ovi took the time to come over, explain the process in detail and patiently walk us through the various options. He even brainstormed solutions to some tricky nuances of our home. Once it was time for his team to start the work, they were extremely conscientious, considerate and detail oriented. We had a lot of questions (one of the decks was covering a rooftop) along the way and they answered each and every one of our questions. The end product could not have been better! The attention to detail and precision are beyond amazing. We are very thorough/picky people and I would highly recommend 4GC and Ovi to anyone! read more

We'd just moved 6 months prior, and were worried about people even using our porch it was so rotted. My wife had visions of our elderly mailman putting his foot through a board and suing us for medical expenses :-\ Anyway, I got estimates to tear down and rebuild our meager front porch. Ovi at 4th Gen was actually a little higher, but after explaining to both companies what we wanted, I felt only Ovi actually understood. He was also able to make several recommendations (first time homeowners - WTF do we know about porches?!) We were hoping to have it done before Halloween. His crew finished in just two days, two weeks before Halloween. We couldn't be happier with the work or the service. Ovi gets it. Our slightly less meager porch is now wider, deeper and much more sturdy. read more

We had 4GC build us our dream back deck, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. Our every expectation was met and exceeded: timeliness, professionalism, workmanship, attention to detail. We got great design advice and recommendations. They even worked with us to come up with a custom solution workaround to a dryer vent that could not be moved. The deck honestly turned out better than we imagined. And since we were home everyday (thanks Covid) we saw firsthand how hard the whole team works. From coordinating delivery of materials, to dealing with architects and inspectors, to the actual construction, 4GC just knows what they are doing. The crew was respectful, meticulous about cleaning up after themselves which we appreciate since we have young children--no worries about nails or sharp materials being left on the job site. They literally finished late this afternoon and we had to share how pleased we are with the entire experience. Highly recommend! read more

I needed porch step repair for my front outdoor steps and some more extensive repairs to my rear outdoor steps and deck. I called Ovi and he was able to come by even when I was not available. He quoted the job to be complete in a couple weeks, but had a schedule change for another job and was able to start and complete all repairs immediately. Ovi was very responsive to emails and took time to answer questions. His crew made sure to clean the areas every day even though the job took a few days to complete. I had a very positive experience using 4th Generation construction, couldn't be happier. I will recommend calling him to anyone looking in the future. read more

Ovi and his team redid the decking on my large balcony. He came out in person at my availability to inspect and measure, and even had sample material of the kind i was interested in with him in his truck. He gave an off-the-cuff estimate that was actually extremely close to the actual calculated estimate, which was fantastic. Due to the size of my job, he didn't even require a deposit. The original time was scheduled for a month out or so, but he called 2 days later, before I had even had a chance to sign and return his paperwork, saying he had a days opening in his schedule and that the material was arriving early. His crew was out two days later and finished the job in a matter of hours. I'd definitely give 4th Generation a call back when more work is needed. The entire experience was done in less time than most contractors need just to get you a bid. read more

2 stars because he knows his stuff...at least when it comes to fencing/railings...so I now know what can/can't be done. I suggest speaking with him to get the ins/outs of city fence/rail codes and then take that information and hire someone else to do the job because he has 0 follow through. I submitted pictures via email to Ovi, who then replied that the pictures were custom, would cost thousands, and he was sorry but he couldn't be of service. Way to burn bridges Ovi. Even after this I contacted him and spoke about alternative material/design options. Emailed more pictures of railings (project photos posted on their social media page) and NEVER heard back. read more

Ovi and his crew were great, they took three days to replace our old wooden deck with a new Trex deck and we absolutely love it. Amazing attention to detail, no matter what the issue was (we wanted 7 steps down to the yard instead of 6), Ovi got the job done just how we wanted. When deciding to redo our very large roof deck a few months back I had several contractors come out. Ovi was the most likable by a long shot, and also the only person who seemed to understand that I may not have an endless supply of money, and was completely on board with doing a more basic deck (albeit a large one - appx 1500 sq feet) and adding fun details to it in the future. After the experience with them I'll definitely be using 4th Gen for future projects. First off they repaired our roof. It used to leak terribly into our rear hallway each time it rained. Since the repair we have had some of the worst storms I've witnessed in my 7+ years in Chicago, and not a drop made it in. I'm very happy with the repair. Next up the actual roof deck construction. I'm not going to lie, there were a few communication snafus, but Ovi was always eager to fix things, and in the end we had a great product for what I truly think was a great price. The deck is simply lovely, and the team who built it was fantastic. I look forward to working with 4th Gen again in the future to make our already fabulous roof even more fantastic. read more

I called and spoke with a guy (Obi or Ovi?) about a apartment building that I have. I felt chastised from the beginning of the phone call and honestly the guy rubbed me the wrong way. He didn't even want to come out and do a estimate. I mentioned to him that I needed reconstruction on the inside of one of my units. I said I needed it completely redone..... he goes on telling me what completely redone means.... trying to school me. So I proceed to telling him I don't need electrical or plumbing but I need the entire inside redone. (drywall, flooring, paint, carpet) and if I could get someone to come out and do a estimate. He clearly didn't want to come out.... saying that it's a process and this and that..... and AGAIN he begins to tell me how I should be explaining myself. I hung up in frustration because I wasted 5 minutes listening to this guy tell me how I should explain things to him, instead of booking an appointment with me for this project. If you want to be lectured on the phone because this guy is too lazy to come out and do an estimate.... then this is the place for you. Too bad because I have phases of what I wanted done which included remodeling done in all the other units. This was just phase 1....and my budget was 100k.... cash. I don't know if this was the owner but he just lost this company a ton of money. read more

Ovi, his Awesome Father and their crew are absolutely amazing! We had lengthy discussions on my project and we started during early "spring." I completely understood weather dictates everything, and I understand as well they have to take other projects and you can't be too wisshy-wasshy about starting a project. I had time though, and I let Ovi know. He was amazingly accommodating. It took me a few months to finally get my own composite for them to install, per contract, and they did a stellar job. I had bad experiences with other contractors, but Ovi did not disappoint. I have extensive experience with every level of contractor, and I can say Ovi, his Father and his Crew should be the bench mark of how contractors should behave. Thank you again--and I would without doubt go with these guys for your next project! After full completion I will update my post with pictures, but as it stands It's Awesome :)! read more

We contacted 4th Generation Construction as part of a 3 bid review process for a new fence, patio extension and pergola. Ovi came over and spent a lot of time understanding what we wanted and gave us thoughtful options for both design and function within our budget. We ended up with a beautiful shadowbox design cedar fence and pergola from 4th Generation and Ovi suggested pavers (our existing design) for our patio extension, which is not a service they provide but offered a great contact to complete that portion of the project quickly and at a great price. Our experience with Ovi and his team was fantastic! Work was completed on time, on budget and the team worked very quietly and left each day leaving the yard better than they found it. I work from home and the construction was never interrupting to my day. We are very happy with the results and the service and professionalism makes us want to tell everyone about 4th Generation! read more

Working with Ovi and the team was great. They were incredibly skilled, quick and thoughtful about their work. The job did change a bit once we started - which can cause some anxiety - but Ovi was super patient and always provided great alternative options to consider. I should also mention that 4th Generation had to work in partnership with another contractor group we had hired for other jobs - Ovi took the lead in coordinating with the other group and it as seamless for us. We found Ovi b/c he was very highly recommended by the contractor from Gary's Finer Landscaping - who also did some wonderful landscaping for us. Ovi and the team at 4th Generation were hired to do several jobs. We are totally satisfied with the work, the crew was very professional and they are incredibly skilled. It was also a pleasure to work through Ovi who responded to all our calls, emails and worries. First, they ripped out about 100ft of an old falling down steel backyard fence that had become over grown with trees, weeds and bushes. They built a brand new cedar 4ft fence in a dog ear style. Beautiful. My neighbor has told me a dozen times how wonderful it looks. Second, they removed 6 large windows in the back of our kitchen and replaced with a sliding glass door + 6 foot wide landing/stair steps down to a brick patio. This project required they remove sliding, re-frame the door, reside the back of the house, dig footers, build a staircase and paint the inside of the kitchen when the door was installed. Third, they rebuild a set of old rotten stairs that is a secondary entrance to the house. This required some demolition, digging/pouring new footers b/c the old stairs were not built to code (unforeseen extra work that was not charged!), and a total rebuild of the stairs. Fourth, they built a beautiful cedar fence across our driveway as a safety feature to keep our children away from cars and the busy street we live on. The cedar fence is about 12 feet long and opens in the middle. Huge peace of mind for us :) read more

4th Generation did an outstanding job building our new deck. Ovi went above and beyond what I expected. He is a pleasure to work with and is a man of his word. He was present, overseeing the entire project and worked alongside his crew. He gave great feedback to my many questions and let me be totally engaged in the process. They were very careful removing only the necessary brick pavers from my new patio in order to insert the cement posts, and saving them for the build back. Also, they dug by hand avoiding the electrical line to my garage. The workmanship was excellent, using quality materials and cleaned up nicely. By the way, Ovi had come out to my home several times to discuss the project and leave me samples before I actually hired him! He is respectful and I highly and confidently recommend Ovi's company. read more

Our deck, which was built 20 years ago, desperately needed replacement. It was in terrible shape. I reached out to 4 contractors, including 4th Generation, which I found through Yelp. Of the four, Ovi was the most responsive. He returned my call very quickly, and we were able to schedule a time to meet the following week. The other three demonstrated much less sense of urgency in scheduling a consultation. Ovi was very helpful in steering us through the maze of material choices and design elements. I can't say the same about the other contractors. Of the four, there were two bids submitted, and Ovi's was the most detailed and incorporated different material options (pressure treated lumber, cedar, and composite) for us to consider. We waited for a week or two in order to give the others a chance to submit something, but, when it was obvious that nothing was forthcoming, we decided to go with 4th Generation. We waffled for several days about the choice of materials, especially the railing. Ovi was very accommodating and made a suggestion regarding a railing system that we ended up adopting. Once we accepted his proposal, which was actually the lowest of the two submitted, the process went pretty smoothly, all things considered. Ovi connected us with the architect he works with, and he was able to get to our house in just a couple of weeks, which gave us time to secure an updated Plat of Survey for the permit process. The architect generated the drawings and got permit approval in less than a month from the date that he came and measured the deck. It took about two months for Ovi to get all of our composite materials (decking and railing) delivered. During this time, he was very responsive to my queries and forthright about the supply chain challenges that he was encountering. Once the materials were in hand, he scheduled us for the following week. Ovi and the crew showed up at 7 AM on a Tuesday morning. I didn't even realize it until I came downstairs. They had the deck demolished in just a couple of hours and began the arduous task of digging out the old footings in order to build new ones to meet code. (I should note that one footing required removing a square foot, or so, of sidewalk. Ovi made sure that he restored the sidewalk around the footing so that it's effectively invisible.) They went so far as to bag the dirt from the holes that they were digging to make its removal easy. They showed up promptly every morning and went right to work. By the end of Thursday, the deck itself was built, along with a 7' privacy wall on one end. The whole thing was completed by Friday afternoon. They removed the last of the bags of soil the following Monday morning. Ovi and his crew are simply amazing. Ovi was on site, on and off, throughout the entire job, and I found his presence very reassuring. His team operates like a well oiled machine regardless of whether he's on site or not. The finished deck exceeded our expectations, and the craftsmanship is obvious to the naked eye. In a number of places, they exceeded the architect's design specifications in reinforcing the structure. The finish work, especially the privacy wall and access door to the area under the deck, is very impressive for exterior construction. I would recommend 4th Generation Construction without any reservation. In fact, I'm looking forward to having them build me a new front porch next spring. read more

We hired 4GC for a new deck and pergola this summer. Ovi was clearly the most thoughtful during our initial conversations and provided a competitive quote so going with him was an easy decision. Ovi and his team did not disappoint. The work was exactly what we were looking for and absolutely beautiful. In addition to the great finished product, two things that were particularly unique in my experience: (1) during construction we had a surprise come up, and instead of taking advantage of us like other contractors might have, Ovi provided us with options and was very fair in pricing, and (2) the 4GC team kept the job site incredibly clean. My only gripe was that the start of work was delayed but Ovi was dealing with material delays related to COVID so it's hard to fault him. Highly recommend!! read more

We worked with 4GC for an interior first level renovation after having some water damage in our kitchen. Ovi responded quickly when we requested a quote and started as soon as possible. Ovi has a lot of great connections around the city for services, products, and materials, which was very helpful. Everyone we worked with was fantastic. I am upgrading my review to 3* because these guys worked really hard to correct their mistake. They came by after hours to take measurements and turned around an estimate the next day... --- Had a fence estimate scheduled for Saturday morning. Called estimator at 9 am to see what time he was planning to arrive--no answer. Called him again at 11:30 am -- no answer. Finally got a voice mail from him around noon with a list of excuses including broken down truck, lost cell phone, dog ate homework, etc. I understand that stuff happens sometimes, but the kicker was (1) no call to let me know and (2) he told me I would have to get back in line and call back myself to re-schedule another appointment. Not even an offer to fix their mistake by coming out at a time convenient for me. Thanks for killing a Saturday morning in June guys! read more
