My wife and I couldn't be happier with our decision to have 4GC Decks to rebuild our 20-year old plus rooftop deck. Ovi and his crew, lead by Jose, made everything simple from beginning to end. I will also say that having a showroom to see all the products they offer firsthand was especially helpful. Ovi is very hands on with the process, even though I know they are especially busy. They were very communicative during the entire process, always informing us when they would be on-site and the expected timeline for completion. They were even flexible enough to move-up our installation timeline by nearly a month, meaning we get to enjoy our deck this season! We decided on the TimberTech AZEK Advanced PVC (Vintage Collection, Mahogany) for the deck flooring, with Impression Rail Express (IRX) black aluminum railings. Topping the rails with matching the same Mahogany decking for a "Drink Rail," made the final result stunning. The finish work 4GC provided was top-notch and their care with the details really shows that it's not just another job. Also, we had a few hot days (mid to upper 80's) right after installation and the decking material not in any way hot and could walk quite easily on it with bare feet. The actual construction process was seamless. Jose and the crew showed up on time each morning, worked incredibly hard, and managed to complete the entire tear-down and rebuild in less than 3- days. Rooftop builds can be very challenging, but they didn't cut a single corner. The value for the money spent can't be beat and if you need a rooftop, or any deck rebuilt, I highly recommend 4th Generation Construction read more

Ovi and his team did a fantastic job replacing and extending our household deck using TimberTech Vintage Advanced PVC materials. Their communication, quality of work, and efficiency were top-tier. In my opinion, the price was very competitive. I would highly recommend 4GC! read more

Ovi and his team were amazing! Very personable on the evaluation and informative on the options. We have a walk out balcony that was in need of replacing being it was coming up on 20 years old. The team not only replaced the foundation of the deck but made a custom fabricated base that is so solid when you walk on it now! Most impressive was the time it took... 6 hours! They were in and out faster than I could believe cleaning along the way. There was a storm coming in that I was worried about and they simply said "we got this"Highly recommended! read more

We're very happy we went with 4GC to replace our deck. From the initial consultation, to responding to follow-up questions on the quote, to the execution of the deck build itself, Ovi and his team were responsive, diligent and efficient. The 4GC team got to work early every morning and ended up completing the project in less than 4 days. More importantly, they didn't cut any corners and our new deck feels extremely sturdy and safe. We went with Timbertech Advanced PVC for the deck flooring and are very pleased with the quality of the materials as well as the aesthetic. Ovi was also able to help troubleshoot a couple of items in real time, including bringing in an electrician to add an exterior outlet for the stair lights and replace an outdoor sconce. After seeing the deck results, we also hired 4GC to replace the cedar fences on both sides of our backyard (work they agreed to do as a courtesy to an existing client). We would highly recommend 4GC to anyone looking to upgrade their deck or porch -- they are the utmost professionals. read more

If you're reading this review, then you already know how difficult it is to find quality, reliable contractors, especially right now. 4th Generation, however, is one of those, responsive, honest, and efficient. After having our patio redone four weeks ago, we reached out to several places to have our railings done. Many places wouldn't even come out for an estimate, and others ranged from way too high to questionably low to never responding to our follow ups. Ovi came out to the house pretty quickly after our initial discussion, even willing to do so when we weren't home to speed up the process. We confirmed the project on Wednesday, paid the deposit on Thursday, and it was completed on Friday. They even came back Saturday to fix a minor issue. These guys do great work, and make everything extremely easy for you. If every contractor were like Ovi, projects like these would always be a pleasant experience. read more

4GC installed a rooftop deck on our townhouse this spring and it was a great experience. From the design to the build, Ovi was always available and went above and beyond. Our HOA has strict guidelines and Ovi made sure to meet all of the requirements and provided all of the documentation that our HOA needed to approve the project. Also, his staff were did great work and were very respectful of our home in the process. We're looking forward to using the rooftop deck for years to come! read more

We used 4th Generation for garage rooftop deck and highly recommend Ovi and his team. Ovi was very responsive and provided timely updates. His recommendation for materials, design elements and layout were so helpful in ultimately creating the best rooftop deck. His team discovered a problem in the garage beam during construction and immediately brought it to our attention so it could be addressed with the roofer. While it delayed project for a eeek so much better to get this addressed now instead of looking the other way and proceeding only to have problems down the road. You can trust him to do the best job as if he were doing for his own family. The deck is beautiful. Ovi and 4th Generation I HIGHLY recommend. read more

After researching and getting quotes from a handful of rooftop deck contractors and comparing the top composite decking products, I'm really glad I went with 4GC. Ovi and his crew did a fantastic job. I'm really pleased with how they did the work and the quality of the new deck including: Prompt responses to questions from me and the COA and addressing all of our concerns. A thorough quote that showed the precise work to be done at a very competitive price. A work crew that was courteous and conscientious about building security and cleanliness. Ensuring that underlying roof issues were fully addressed before building out the new deck. Had an absolutely wonderful experience with Ovi and 4th Generation Construction. During the planning process, he listened to what we wanted (a more modern redesign of our deck space) and provided us with plans that matched what we were looking for. We did a complete redesign that included new composite decking, a pergola build, and a wood stain after the lumber had a chance to settle. Our deck went from honestly a safety hazard to a stunning spot we love! It's my new happy place! Throughout the entire process, Ovi was patient while we deliberated and responsive when we were ready to execute, and the crews were wonderful - talented, fast, and respectful. I don't often write reviews. However, I felt compelled to take a few minutes and let anyone willing to read my writing that I recommend Ovi and 4th Generation without reservation. They did an amazing job on our deck. I obtained estimates from several companies. 4th Generation was not the cheapest estimate, but Ovi was upfront about his pricing and how it adequately reflected the quality of his work. What stood out immediately was his level of expertise. As we talked through the work, he called out specific pieces of work and construction that would help ensure a long-lasting, quality build. Those small comments really stood out and I made my decision to go with 4th Generation before he drove away, honestly. When the day came to do the job, his crew was on time, courteous, and efficient. Importantly, the final product was exactly what I had wanted. It looked so good, we've had several neighbors ask us about the contractor we used and a subset of those are already in conversations with Ovi. I will definitely hire them again for our next project. You should give Ovi a call, you won't regret it. read more

4GC Decks replaced the original wooden tongue and groove front porch deck on our 120-year old house with a new Timber-Tek tongue and groove product. Like many construction projects, we had scope detail issues with pricing increases. Thankfully, Ovi (4GC Decks project manager) responded to our questions/concerns and our deck was completed in less time than originally estimated. 4GC's workforce was respectful of our's and our neighbors' property (no construction and/or food waste left at the end of the work day, no loud music and no profanity). Contacted Ovi this spring to bid on a rooftop deck, cat walk, stairs etc. We wanted a lot of different information so we could assess a new fabricated spiral stair case, composite decking or go with lumber etc. He was very patient and worked through multiple bids to help us meet budget. Brought out a ton of samples so we could select colors and textures. We also received 3 bids from other companies but could tell Ovi was the expert and maintained the highest integrity. He would be around after the job was completed to back up his work. We ended up going with a mix, composite for the main deck, some lumber steps, railing and a stringer replacement. They brought in 20 ft boards to enhance the design and leave no seams. And, removed heavy items from the deck and moved downstairs. They delivered exactly as promised. The team worked hard, fast and cleaned everything up. We are thrilled with the results. A few months later at the height of summer construction business, we found a set of stringers on a side porch had rotted through. We called Ovi and he came out within a few days even when he was super busy on other projects. His crew came out thereafter and took care of a second project quickly. We still have several more projects to go before we are done and will call Ovi and team for all of them. You will be very happy you called them, so rare to get great service after the sale. read more

We had an excellent experience with 4GC and the owner Ovi in building our rooftop deck. Ovi has decades of experience and is very knowledgeable about materials. He explained the pros and cons of different kinds of decking and colors, and he was generous in providing samples to help us decide. When the time came to install the deck, the whole process went smoothly and faster than expected. We had an unexpected change in the roof which affected the roof deck, and Ovi resolved the issue with a very nice redesign. We highly recommend 4GC for a beautiful looking roof deck. read more

I called Ovi and 4th Generation Construction after reading positive reviews online. From my first meeting with Ovi, I had a good feeling that this could be a good experience. My expectations were far exceeded. Ovi quickly sent me a quote and met with me a few times to select materials and answer questions. Throughout the process, he always responded quickly and professionally. Ovi's team was also fantastic. They removed my old wood deck, poured additional footers for the expanded deck, and constructed the new deck on time and on budget. Each night the team cleaned up and were very respectful of the property. The final product is beautiful and well-constructed. Now I am just waiting for warmer weather so I will have the opportunity to really enjoy the deck. I highly recommend working with Ovi and 4th Generation Construction. We are so impressed with 4GC. They finished our deck in 1 1/2 days. They were efficient, they cleaned up each day and their workmanship is phenomenal. I love Ovi and his team. It was late October 2020, and the old deck on my SFH was becoming a leaning house of cards. It needed to be completely demolished and rebuilt before the first winter snow or I feared it would topple into my neighbor's yard. 4GC was the third quote I got. His quote was monetarily consistent with the others I'd gotten, however, Ovi was the clear winner because he not only said he could get the job done before it got cold (even though they were very busy - everyone seemed to be) but he was the ONLY person I consulted who came up with a simple-yet-brilliant solution to a problematic flaw in the design of the original deck. Not ONE other builder/designer had seen a way around a certain obstacle (too detailed to explain here) but Ovi thought for a few minutes and said, "What if we do *this*...?" Genius. Got me a more efficient deck with the same footprint. On top of that, he's just a nice, honest person with all kinds of helpful suggestions. He and his team did the demo on a Saturday in November, began construction that Monday, and by Wednesday afternoon - yes, only three days of building--I had a brand new, beautiful, STURDY deck! We decided to go with a combination of wood and TimberTech, because I couldn't afford a whole deck of composite. The team was great - prompt, courteous, hard-working, and thoroughly cleaned up each day. Ovi even allowed me to make a modification mid-construction, which forced them to re-do some work, and he didn't charge me extra for it. He's a real pro, plus he's very knowledgeable about the very strict Chicago deck codes. The deck is perfect. My next door neighbors were so impressed with both the quality and the speed, they asked for his info. Next, I need him for my front porch... read more

We hired 4th Generation Construction to build a replacement roof deck off our third floor bedroom after we replaced our roof. Ovi came out and made me feel very comfortable with his company's ability to work in our tight rowhouse yard/alley/roof area. We used TimberTech and aluminum railings. Work started about 4 weeks after we signed the contract. They completed the 16' x 11' deck in about 1.5 days. After multiple other contractors told us they wouldn't work in our neighborhood anymore (south Gold Coast), we were so pleased that Ovi and team work in Chicago exclusively. They moved all materials by rope and ladder; no crane necessary and they didn't come through the house. Happy we hired them; highly recommended. read more

We are thrilled with our new deck built by 4th Generation. The entire experience from quote to completion was excellent. We obtained three quotes for a composite deck and 4th generation came in the middle, which is typically our "sweet spot" for quality and value. Ovi took his time asking us what we wanted in our new deck and taking measurements. He came up with an excellent solution to gain a little more deck without losing too much yard. We chose Timbertech Advanced PVC in weathered teak for the decking and a modern aluminum railing. Ovi has everything available to view in his warehouse. The work of the 4th generation was top notch. They left no trace of mess. The deck and railing looks beautiful. I would not hesitate to use 4th generation again. read more

Another fabulous deck build from 4GC Decks!!! We, our neighbor and us, had Ovi and his crew complete garage decks for our separate units in 2020. When it came to the collective condo building rooftop deck needing to be demolished and a new build, we had the bid out there for others for comparison. None of the other business were at the same level of professionalism, competitive pricing, and quality of craftsmanship as 4GC. You can tell when you contact and speak to Ovi, that your business is important and he actually listens to you. You get exactly what you are asking for and his advice is to assist, not to upsell you. Essentially, you are being treated properly, like family. We knew from experience that the project would be done quickly once it started and it shows that this company is consistent as 4 years later it is the same, if not better! This is the second time that we have worked with Ovi and his team. For their first work with us (about 6 years ago), Ovi and 4GC basically touched every wall in our condo - helped us blow out our closet, add a master bathroom, move walls around in our kitchen, utililty closet and second bedroom - and then also carved out a door through our greystone and added an ipe wood patio. They did fantastic work that made our condo into a home and helped us massively at resale. For their most recent work, we actively sought them out given our great first experience to add an awning to the patio at the back of our house. They did great work (again) helping recreate the sightlines and pitches of our roof with the awning, installing electric heaters, lights and a fan as well as our outdoor TV - to make our patio an extension of our home. We have recommend Ovi to our friends and colleagues and would do the same here - they do great work at a reasonable price on great timing. read more

I reached out to Ovi about a full rooftop deck renovation project. Completely removing an existing wood deck with composite. He quickly responded to me and we set up a time to meet. He reviewed everything with me from his recommendation for the composite decking, to helping me select color options. I even shared a competitive estimate with him that I received and he walked me through why he wouldn't work with that company. His honesty, integrity and extensive professional experience told me he was the guy I wanted to work with. From the time he ordered all the materials to the day he started demolition was very quick. And he kept in constant communication with me every step of the way. I was blown away by how quickly he and his team worked from demolition to completion of the deck! Not only were they quick, but the craftsmanship is impeccable. He has an eye for meticulous detail and is very involved throughout the project. He is so dedicated that the day the crane was to arrive to load all the materials to my roofdeck, he waited outside my building to hold open parking spaces for hours until the crane arrived. That was impressive. I can't begin to tell you what a pleasure it was to work with Ovi. A true master of the trade. Long story short: Us: Ovi, I don't want to have to maintain this thing Ovi: Sure, you want composite then. The base is still made of wood though. Us: ...we don't want to have to maintain anything Ovi: Ok! We can cover the base with more composite to protect the wood. Us: Deal! We have an old house so I've dealt with a LOT of contractors over the years. Ovi has been one of the easiest projects I've ever had to deal with. He came over to check out the backyard. We told him exactly what we wanted (I already designed the look) and he gave us the options and estimate. They were done in less than a week! We chose composite because we're not good at maintaining things. We told Ovi we also wanted some storage under the deck so he made us a nifty little door. He completely enclosed it because we don't like the look of lattice and we wanted privacy for the things we planned on storing. Everything turned out great.
