We're very happy we went with 4GC to replace our deck. If you're reading this review, then you already know how difficult it is to find quality, reliable contractors, especially right now. 4th Generation, however, is one of those, responsive, honest, and efficient. After having our patio redone four weeks ago, we reached out to several places to have our railings done. Many places wouldn't even come out for an estimate, and others ranged from way too high to questionably low to never responding to our follow ups. Ovi came out to the house pretty quickly after our initial discussion, even willing to do so when we weren't home to speed up the process. We confirmed the project on Wednesday, paid the deposit on Thursday, and it was completed on Friday. They even came back Saturday to fix a minor issue. Contacted Ovi this spring to bid on a rooftop deck, cat walk, stairs etc. We wanted a lot of different information so we could assess a new fabricated spiral stair case, composite decking or go with lumber etc. He was very patient and worked through multiple bids to help us meet budget. Brought out a ton of samples so we could select colors and textures. We also received 3 bids from other companies but could tell Ovi was the expert and maintained the highest integrity. He would be around after the job was completed to back up his work. We ended up going with a mix, composite for the main deck, some lumber steps, railing and a stringer replacement. They brought in 20 ft boards to enhance the design and leave no seams. And, removed heavy items from the deck and moved downstairs. They delivered exactly as promised. The team worked hard, fast and cleaned everything up. We are thrilled with the results. A few months later at the height of summer construction business, we found a set of stringers on a side porch had rotted through. We hired 4th Generation Construction to build a replacement roof deck off our third floor bedroom after we replaced our roof. Ovi came out and made me feel very comfortable with his company's ability to work in our tight rowhouse yard/alley/roof area. We used TimberTech and aluminum railings. Work started about 4 weeks after we signed the contract. They completed the 16' x 11' deck in about 1.5 days. After multiple other contractors told us they wouldn't work in our neighborhood anymore (south Gold Coast), we were so pleased that Ovi and team work in Chicago exclusively. I love Ovi and his team. It was late October 2020, and the old deck on my SFH was becoming a leaning house of cards. It needed to be completely demolished and rebuilt before the first winter snow or I feared it would topple into my neighbor's yard. 4GC was the third quote I got. His quote was monetarily consistent with the others I'd gotten, however, Ovi was the clear winner because he not only said he could get the job done before it got cold (even though they were very busy - everyone seemed to be) but he was the ONLY person I consulted who came up with a simple-yet-brilliant solution to a problematic flaw in the design of the original deck. Not ONE other builder/designer had seen a way around a certain obstacle (too detailed to explain here) but Ovi thought for a few minutes and said, "What if we do *this*...?" Genius. Got me a more efficient deck with the same footprint. On top of that, he's just a nice, honest person with all kinds of helpful suggestions. He and his team did the demo on a Saturday in November, began construction that Monday, and by Wednesday afternoon - yes, only three days of building--I had a brand new, beautiful, STURDY deck! We decided to go with a combination of wood and TimberTech, because I couldn't afford a whole deck of composite. This is the second time that we have worked with Ovi and his team. For their first work with us (about 6 years ago), Ovi and 4GC basically touched every wall in our condo - helped us blow out our closet, add a master bathroom, move walls around in our kitchen, utililty closet and second bedroom - and then also carved out a door through our greystone and added an ipe wood patio. They did fantastic work that made our condo into a home and helped us massively at resale. For their most recent work, we actively sought them out given our great first experience to add an awning to the patio at the back of our house. This review is a little late, but we wanted to get good before and after pictures when our deck was fully set up for the summer! We contacted Ovi after getting several (incredibly expensive) quotes to renovate our condo roof deck. Ovi was very responsive, honest and reasonable with price to replace all our old, worn deck boards with Timbertech, and doing some enhancements like building a shade structure and outdoor counter for entertainment. We did experience some delays during all the logistics chaos of 2021, but the team was quick to get things moving when materials arrived (and ended up coming to work in the fall/winter).
