I have had 4 Change Energy since June 2025 when my bill was $77. My bill jumped in Sept 2025 to $236.19 because I did not use enough electricity. I live in Texas and and I'm one person not consuming much. Now to 2026, I do auto pay. They didn't receive my payment for Dec 2025 and sent a disconnect notice for January 7, 2026 and a bill for $188 . WTH? blamed it on the bank per the not very helpful, nor knowledgeable & condescending ( for 4 seconds) customer lip service representative. After a trip to the bank headquarters today, they only have 1 card on file for me. IM CALLING THE 4 CHANGE HOTLINE AND I WILL PAY TO JUMP THAT SHIP!!! SHIP. OH YEAH OUR ELECTRICITY HAS BEEN CUT OFF FOR AS LONG AS 3 TO 5 HOURS AT A TIME. NEW ELECTRIC POLES BEING INSTALLED BY ONCORE. I moved out of my apartment on April 21, 2026. The apartment complex informed me that the unit had already been leased to a new tenant for May, so I could not extend my lease. When I received a final bill from 4Change Energy, I disputed the charges because I no longer lived at the property. After their investigation, I was told that because I never specifically called to disconnect service, my account automatically continued on a month-to-month basis and I remained responsible for electricity charges through May 21, when another customer allegedly took over the account. What concerns me is that 4Change could not clearly explain why I was being billed for power at a residence I no longer occupied for an entire month, despite a new tenant apparently being scheduled to move in. They also provided inconsistent explanations regarding the final charges on the account and were unable to give me confidence that the billing was accurate. If you move, do not assume your service will end when your lease ends or when your contract term expires. Make sure you explicitly request a disconnect and obtain written confirmation. I learned that lesson the expensive way. Based on my experience, I would not choose 4Change Energy again. read more

They advertise "9¢/kWh" rates, but once you factor in their gimmicky usage credits and mandatory Oncor delivery charges, the real cost is nearly double. In just 90 days I paid $1,200 for electricity -- an average of 17.7¢/kWh, which is 61% higher than what they promote. Their Electricity Facts Label looks good only if you use exactly 500, 1,000, or 2,000 kWh. Real households don't land on those numbers every month, so the credits disappear and the bills skyrocket. read more

Do not use this company. They over changed me by $100 in the last month usage bc I called to cancel and only used them for 2 months. We didn't even move in the apartment and the first month was $150 and that's with lights off. Then for 28 days in October, they send me a bill in December for $232. I called to dispute it bc it read that my service will be disconnected but it was cancelled already on 10/29, and they started asking why I left the apartment so fast. WTH does that have to do with anything? They asked me why I didn't cancel before since we didn't live there and I told them bc I didn't want to violate any contract with our apartment, so I set it for the last date of the contract. We had to move out of an apartment due to lack of safety. Regardless, they were changing me too much for October and likely in November. I recommend octopus electric. Way more reasonable. read more

I've been with 4Change for two years with no issues until their recent system migration 10/27-10/31. My account was suddenly placed on autopay without my authorization, and a duplicate payment was charged. When I called, the representative was rude, talked over me, and immediately said I wouldn't get a refund--even though I never asked for one, just wanted my account removed from autopay. She also contradicted herself about whether the company sends autopay emails (I have three that prove they do). The whole call felt scripted, dismissive, and completely lacking empathy or accountability. Very disappointing experience after years of loyalty. read more

After signing up, providing SSN, DL# and a Credit Card - I get an email accusing me of fraud saying I have to call and prove my identity or service (which has not started yet) will be shut off and I will be charged $104 plus a recovery fee of $29 (for service that has no started yet). So I call, no one speaks english, transferred to a second person who barely speaks understandable english, who proceeds to advise I must send a photograph of my Driver's License with a copy of my mortgage to prove I own the house. I advised, I could send DL, it has address and was promptly advised that I must prove I own the property. I request transfer to a supervisor who was little help, he could barely speak English, and basically called me a THIEF and a LIAR. When I expressed I felt the email and the tone of the conversation was rude and insulting, I was told to prove I own the property or go find another provider. I asked about the fees I was given some unintelligible response. Customer service is a joke, full of rude people who do not speak English, have no clue what is going on and to add an additional insult, after calling me a thief and a liar, and my saying I will go find another provider, the supervisor had the audacity to read some script to me about "referrals" wanting me to send my friends and family to be insulted too, I presume. Bottom line, I am glad I do not need customer service as a customer who actually needs help. Stay away, avoid at all cost. I set up with a rep on the phone, logged into my account, and everything has gone smoothly since. I went to a farmers market and as a competitor was trying to get me to switch, I told them my plan and they said "oh we can't match that - that's actually a great plan". A competitor. I attempted to confirm when my electric start date would be, I received different information from two different reps on the same day that my power may not be turned on the scheduled date as requested. I found another company that was easier to work with and guaranteed the start date I needed. When I went back to 4change energy to cancel, they gave me such a hard time to cancel, and they did not understand anything I was saying and they keep repeating themselves and continued to argue with me about nonsense. I asked them to please just cancel because I am busy, but they continued to speak nonsense and wasted my time. A little unprofessional, incompetent and rude if you ask me. I have been under a 2 year contract for 16 months now..I charted each month and did a year over year monthly comparison for the 4 overlapping months so far...THIS COMPANY changed their tier curve higher. Im now paying about 29 cents vs 24 cents for the kwh usage over the 1000 kwh threshold. That 5 cents equates to anywhere from $12 to $20 more than last years rates. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE THEIR FEE STRUCTURE ONCE YOU'RE UNDER CONTRACT. I understand the PUC has granted them $1 to $2 dollar increase to cover the derecho and Hurricane Beryl, but other than that , theres NO WAY i should be charged a higher rate than what I signed up for.. .Oh, and they recently "conveniently" removed their online customer dashboard.The previous dashboard allows you to track usage down to the hour, for those of us who aim to keep our usage as close to 1000kwh as possible, without going under. So now the dashboard only shows monthly usage and you have NO IDEA what day your billing cycle ends on. Because 1 or 2 days could mean the difference of you using less than 1000(and getting dinged at a higher rate), so now I have to guess when the cycle ends... I suspect other providers are doing the same sleazy rate increases, WITHIN A CONTRACT PERIOD, and ill be contacting local news reporters consumer advocates as well as the PUC. If anyone else experiencing these same issues, please post and do the same. Im thinking the best strategy is to find the companies with the lowest rates, shortest plan(6months) , highest reviews, and lowest early termination fees. 4Change Energy uses deceptive advertising thru Compare Power. They show one single rate of 11 cents/kWh however the plan is not a fixed rate but instead 50-100% higher than that advertised. Deceptive Practices. The ONLY way to get the advertised price (let's say they advertised 13 cents per kilowatt for up to 2000kw + $100 off per month). But, when you start getting your bill...the charge is NOT the advertised contract price. In fact, after calling their customer service department, the ONLY way you can get the contract price is to hit 1000kw EXACTLY on the nose. Really? Yes, according to their customer service....really. So instead of the advertised rate, expect approximately 17 cents per Kw (which at 2000kw, that is $350/mo). Then, add Oncor charges (stnd) and that is another $115ish....then they take off the $100 (like they said). and your bill is around $365 for a month. imho, this is possibly the biggest scam ever!...Why? You are in effect, penalized EVERY MONTH for their deceptive practice !!! The $20 per month remaining contract fee for leaving, sounds like a cheaper route at this point!! read more

I'll start by saying I never write reviews as a rule because my time is valuable and you really have to piss me off for me to waste my time in doing so. I made an exception for 4change energy though. Complete clown show of a company. Don't waste your time. Would leave 0 or negative stars if that was an option. Signed up with these clowns to replace my current provider I had for the last 5 years when we moved into our newly built home in 2019. One day before the switch was to be made they email me saying I need to contact our TDU (Centerpoint) because our meter may be inactive or a permit require. I called Centerpoint and they said of course our meter is active and no permit is required. I phone up 4change customer service and get someone who I can barely understand like they are from some third world country on the other end to look into it and they come back and say my meter needs to be inspected and a permit obtained from my city hall. I live in unincorporated Harris county and there is no city hall here. I told them to delete my account that I wouldn't be wasting my time with them or this strange process they outlined especially one day before the switch was to be made. Needless to say I happened to at last minute accept a new contract with my current provider ( Discount Power) that was a good deal. 4change energy can get bent as far as I'm concerned. read more

BTW I live in Dallas, TX not Canada, no ide why Yelp thinks otherwise. 4change energy I signed up for a $.12/kwh plan. Actually they charged me $.18/kwh the first two weeks, then $.22/kwh for the next 3 weeks. By the time I got switched to another provider my 2400 kwh of usage was billed at $760. And it gets better, they offered a 60 day cancellation period without any penalty which they refuse to honor. I did transfer out within the 60 day window and they are still attempting to charge that early cancellation. They are threatening me with collections. They are liars, they offered me a settlement which was still way above the $.12/kwh promised and I paid that settlement agreemet, but now they refuse to credit my account for the rest of the balance. They are calling me demanding the rest reneging on their agreement with me. My escalation emails to PUC about them are answered by some pompous mumbo jumbo talking fool who tells me "that is what you signed up for". Horrible, this is a total scam. They are crooks and liars. I signed up as they offered the best rate of 12.1 for over 2000 kWhs. We use that much every month, so I thought great. The contract is very clear (and I always review the EFL in great details prior to signing up). I did not review first month as it was just getting started, but my 2nd month comes and it clearly states on the bill that my charges are $0.136 per kWh. That is much more than the contracted amount of $0.121 per Kwh. I call customer support and it is a joke. The guy keeps repeating himself that the $0.136 is estimate. I told him to do the math on the bill. It is not an estimate. That is what they are charging me. I am now on hold (forever) to simply and the guy comes back to me and explains that it is because I am over 2000. The base rate is less than 12.1. He could not answer so he hung up. read more

I am 71 years old and have used many electric providers since we have been choosing our providers. This is the absolutely worst electric provider that I have ever encountered. My bill states usage of 890 kWh and a total of $218.40 due. I will be contacting TX PUC after this review. This is an unoccupied guest cottage. There are two refrigerators running. The thermostat is often just OFF since it is unoccupied and the weather has been great. This is so bad that I am considering paying the $20.00/month cancellation fee (another huge rip off!). Absolutely terrible customer service. 4change made me pay a deposit before they started service at my address. 3 weeks later after I still didn't have service, they claimed I never paid the deposit and demanded I pay again before doing anything else. After an hour of back and forth proving I paid the deposit, THEN they told me they needed a "certificate of occupancy" before they activated service. What even is that? I asked the rep and he had absolutely no clue either. So they're sitting there demanding documents in which they have no clue what they're even asking for, and this was AFTER I already paid the deposit!!!! I had service at another property with 4change, but after this nightmare of an experience, I *immediately* canceled my service at the other property and switched to another provider. One very strange thing, the customer rep kept asking me if I wanted to cancel before I even brought it up. I've never seen a business so eager to *LOSE* customers before in my life.
