A visit to Anchorage and this spot was recommended for the food and the brews. The fish and chips I had were really good. Fish was dense yet flaky. Batter was good. Chips however are fries. I had three different beers, all their specialty beers, two weren't much different than other craft beers, I couldn't taste any of the notes that they suggested would be in there. The Peach Bellini flavored one, it did have a slight hint of the peach, it was impressively good. Staff however, at the bar anyway, the bartender was a bit of a jerk. Not sure if he was having a bad day or just has a chip on his shoulder, but he wasn't very responsive, kind, nor helpful. I'd point at the beer I wanted on the menu as well as state it and he looked through me like I wasn't even there. This wan't just once, it was each time I ordered a different beer to try. An amazing experience to taste the flavors of Anchorage before a long flight home. Super busy as this is a well established restaurant. Many locals and "redeye"" travelers. This was an easy find to spend a few hours before flying home. Place was packed, however fast. We only waited about 10 minutes. Gave our name and they texted me when my table was ready. Friendly staff - we had to get individual receipts for work. I loved the location, we sat by a window to look out to the water. I've loved every experience I've had at this restaurant over the years! Others must as well because there is ALWAYS a long line! The roof has the longest wait but it is worth it on a lovely Alaskan day or evening. The inside is nice and cozy. The downstairs is first come first serve. It is a bar area with loads of seating, but never seems enough at this popular restaurant! The service is always with a smile and helpful. The menu is vast and has many fun to try items on it. Enjoyed the unique sodas along with a burger. Ask for a small side of cheese sauce to go with your fries. Both the service and the kitchen were quite slow even though we got there just after opening. Since it took more than a half hour to get our food after ordering, we didn't have time to send one of the meals back when it came out wrong. The server realized it before they served it, but didn't mention that until we did. And one of our items was also forgotten - took a while to get that removed from the bill. We visited this place right before heading to airport. It was a final sweet memory of our first trip to Anchorage. And I have to say, this place did not disappoint. We were greeted by a super friendly host. Staff were super nice and made recommendations on the food. The food and drinks tasted amazing. We tasted halibut fish for the first time and all I have to say is that it's currently my favorite fish. The place was super cozy and warm with intentional and meaningful decorations. The service was spectacular. The tots appetizer were amazing. Hubby ordwred fish and chips and said the best thing about it was the fries. The fish itself tasted old. Hes a fisherman and knows his fish. I ordered the seafood chowder with the lager bread. Huge chunks of very dry salmon and undercooked onions. I only had 2 bites of the lager bread. It was very underwhelming. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 was due to the service and tots. We had lunch here on 07/03/2023 with an arrival at about 1:15PM. It was a busy holiday weekend. The wait was about 30 minutes; however, bar seating was open and it was a cool but perfectly fine day to use the open seating at the rooftop bar. We had the pleasure of having Kenzie as our server/bartender and she was wonderful. Very personable, very friendly and perfect for this environment. Top notch from her all the way. As for the food, it was excellent. We shared the Yak Burger and the Crab Grilled cheese. Both were amazing, and we would love to share those again in the future. the drinks were good as well. The only suggestion for improvement is the heaters above the rooftop bar are very hot. Supposedly, there is no way to adjust them. There is just on and off. Late Family dinner, we arrived just after 8:10pm and were seated by 8:30. The service was very good. I loved the Spruce Tip soda! The Bavarian pretzel and cheese appetizer was delicious. It tasted so good. Same with the crab artichoke dip. Everyone got something different for the main dish. My wife got the World Famous YAK burger which was full of "beefy" flavor. Sadly the tots which came with it were not as good as the fries. I went with the King Crabby Grilled Cheese sandwich which comes with a small bowl of their famous Alaska clam chowder and bar fries. The flavors were so good. I was warned that it's a very rich meal and I agree. I finished off the chowder but taking just over half the grilled cheese sandwich home. Sadly they didn't have any King Crab to order. The only drawback was the booth seated five people and we were six, so I sat in a chair facing the booth. Stopped by after walking around Anchorage. Absolutely solid place. Seated outside on the patio. Served flights of their beer on tap (son said wonderful) and our party of 5 had a plethora of menu choices including beef, elk and impossible burgers with wonderful fillings (I do appreciate a great burger) crab and cheese grilled sandwich (yum) the Buddha bowl, a great halibut fish n chips and did I mention ...So. Many. Beers? Plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options plus bacon. We do have a diverse group. Lol Service was great and prompt and knowledgeable. Our waitress ran us through the menu. Some flights she couldn't do because customers broke the glasses (this is why we can't have nice things). But she did provide a couple of tastings in small water glasses. Eating outside on a somewhat rare sunny day late spring was a treat. There are several areas in the pub to choose from. We enjoyed a chance to eat outside. The general vibe was upscale pub but fun. Plus they have a wide variety of retail items for sale (glasses, tote bags, hoodies, tshirts). I love their logo so yes, I might now have some 49th State gear. Went here on Saturday and the ground floor was first come first serve. We got super lucky and got seats right away! The server was nice but was very overwhelmed. The pizza was good, the bowl was amazing. Highly recommend this place. It has something in the menu for everyone! So this is another review from last summer - I'm still catching up from all the places we went on that trip, pre- and post-cruise. I was actually here twice during the couple days we were in Anchorage at the end of that trip - mainly because there wasn't a ton to do in Anchorage, but also because they had a lot of beer to try, and the beer I did try was all great (though also, relatedly, because they only serve pints or half-pints, not flights, and half of them *only* came in full pints, so I couldn't try as many of them in one shot. So I *had* to come back twice, haha. This might only be during the busy season, though?) Anyway, other than that, the main negative was, at least when I was there, they were busy as absolute *frack*. Might be a much different vibe in the winter (and sans all the people arriving via cruise ship, like I was), but the first time, I arrived around dinner, the wait was insane for a table (unless you were by yourself like I was, and got lucky with a bar seat like I did). When I did snag a seat, I got a distinct "I don't have time to talk to you" vibe from the bartenders, not because they were rude, just because there were too many people and not enough of them, and they actually didn't have time to talk to me. Too bad, though, being all the beer I tried was great. (Though sitting at the bar still had a great surprise benefit: free, great kettle corn with any purchase.) When I was back the following day for lunch with my wife, there were plenty of bar seats and tables, and correspondingly better service as a result - it was still a bit slow to get a table and to get our food, but not exceptionally slow. There was definitely one decent span of time mid-meal where I would've ordered another beer if anyone had been around to order one from, though, clearly because they were still fairly busy. And after dropping a plastic ketchup container from our table and cracking it, waiter took it and said they'd bring us another one... never did come back with it, so I just snagged one from another table. The food we tried (prices as of last summer): 4 dollar bread and honey butter - bread was just bread, it was good fresh bread, but nothing amazing. The honey butter was amazing, though, so I'd totally get it again for that. Their chowder - I had to try the chowder at all *two* competing brewpubs in Anchorage, while I was here. (I'm not sure I could say one was better - they were different, but both were great. This one might win just for having more different seafood instead of mostly smoked salmon, though.) As with the chowder at Glacier, you definitely want to get the larger size of soup, for not that much more, especially if it's for two people. A 28 dollar yak burger, cause come on, we had to try a yak burger if they were going to sell us one, having never eaten yak previously, as far as we could recall. It was a legitimately great, juicy, flavorful burger (and great fries), but if you put it next to a beef burger and asked me which one was which, I'm not sure I'd have been able to tell. Clearly you're paying for the fact that you get to try an expensive meat like yak, but it basically tasted the same as a good beef burger anyway, so I wouldn't really recommend ordering it for any other reason than to say you'd eaten yak. An extremely good ($22) crab grilled cheese that I would *very* much recommend. It was omg-level good - if I were ever in Anchorage I'd definitely come back for that, food-wise. If I had to pick one word for it, it'd be: overflowing. Tons of crab, big meaty pieces covered in smaller bits, tons of cheese, just fantastic. Was expensive, but crab's gotten expensive - for how much great crab you get, totally reasonably priced. And of course, I/we also had a bunch of great beer. I'm sure the majority of the beer we had is long-gone now, but I believe the Smōk is one of their flagships, and for good reason - if you like smoked beers (I love smoked beers), this is one of the best I've had. (And it's won a bunch of awards, so I'm clearly not the only one thinking that.) I actually just opened the one can of it I brought home, last night - still excellent. (Wish I'd brought a couple more cans home.) Also tried a great spruce-tip IPA, a great fresh-rasberry-juice-y raspberry blonde, a great yuzu witbier, a great oyster stout, and a *fairly* good spruce tip ale (the IPA was a lot more spruce-tip-y). Basically, if you're ever in Anchorage, I'd totally recommend the food and the beer here... *if* it's not a total madhouse. (If it is, based on the service when it was only moderately busy, I'd say stick to beer, if you can even get a seat.) read more

Unfortunately, we had a language barrier with our server which proved impossible when navigating a tree nut allergy in our party. We asked for a manager and 15 minutes later she came over. She confirmed that the calamari breading contained nuts. Therefore IF YOU HAVE A TREE NUT ALLERGY - DO NOT EAT HERE, they put nuts in their frier. Cons: Wed afternoon was 45 min wait, the person who sat us kinda gestured at a table and said "if you need additional chairs, they are over there" then quickly she vanished....then the slowness just continued throughout the rest of the service taking over 15 min before our waiter came over. These then set a low expectation of food taste, but in that, they excelled Pros: Smoked dry rub wings, beer cheese preztle all agreed were great. The Mexican street corn got mixed reviews, its chips were not liked by all. The rueben and yak burger bread slightly dry/overcooked. All that being said, the hit was the king crabby grilled cheese with seafood chowder dip. Perfectly cooked, and overall awesome perfection. Can't recommend that highly enough! So I asked if someone could take our orders and was hit with "did you sit yourself?" NO. We were shown to our table and were waiting to close to 10 min before I asked. Once we got someone to check on us, he was good and did his best. - this was on June 26th. I give him lots of credit. Unlike the time before that when our waiter completely forgot about us and one of our drinks. No spoons for the soup. So by the time we got the spoons, the soup was cold. This was on June 3rd. I travel up to Anchorage every month for work and for some reason I had a block on 49th State brewing. Finally I decided to give this place a try. As I walked in I was surprised to see how warm it looked and felt inside. It had a very comfortable feel. Since it was just me, I decided to eat at the bar. I was very surprised when the bartender brought me some caramel corn, instead of the typical popcorn and peanuts if you're lucky. Unfortunately being allergic to Halibut, my fish options were limited. I decided to go with the 49th State Calamari and the House Made Chicken Tenders. Both dishes tasted amazing! There service here was great as well. Always making sure I had plenty of beer in front of me. I feel like this is the type of place you can come casual or dressed up. They had a few servers to help us, so we weren't waiting too long for any drink orders. The Salmon bowl is absolutely delicious and I wish I could bottle up the sauce they use and take it with me!
