456 Fish - Colossal lump crab wrapped in flounder atop mashed potatoes and asparagus. - Seafood Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Went for my mother's 80th birthday. The staff were very accommodating by speaking louder and being patient. The food was superior and atmosphere was great. I highly recommend 456 Fish! read more

Above average service and excellent food! I had the pleasure of dining at 456 fish during the week. They were notably slower than historic peak times, so a busy Friday or Saturday may offer a different level of service. But I can only describe my experience and the quality of food. To the latter, I ordered the special, a red snapper. It was cooked to perfection and had plenty of flavor. I generally prefer salmon but being my first visit to 456 Fish I wanted to try something new. I was very pleased. The dish comes with two sides. I chose vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes, both were very delicious. To end the night my companion and I chose to share the Chocolate fudge dessert. It was very rich and sweet. The portion is better shared rather than indulged alone. Generally, I avoid dessert but my companion was craving something sweet. Not that I was upset to try it. I also had some coffee. In regards to the service, there were a couple times that my companion and I were conversing only to be interrupted by the waitress. Generally, I applaud aggressive service but in a couple of instances prudence would dictate waiting for a more appropriate moment to interject. Albeit, this is a pretty minor infraction considering the timeliness of receiving our food and having a filled glass of water for the duration we were there. Overall, I was pleased with the food and service and I would go back again. It is reasonably priced and offers online reservations to facilitate the customer. read more

Great experience with customers tonight...service was excellent and food was wonderful. We had the sampler app - enough for the whole table with tuna sashimi, calamari, scallops, egg rolls, and shrimp. Then had the rockfish grilled (fresh catch) with broccoli and spinach. Others had the tuna and prime rib, both great choices with good flavor. They even accommodated our vegan diner with a great veg plate. All around a great experience and I would highly recommend! read more

I fell in love with the ambiance of this restaurant, as well as, the food. The potato encrusted lump crab cake was prepared perfectly and tasted delicious. read more

Went here Sunday evening for dinner. I first started off with a Cosmo which was very good. I had their crusted pork tenderloin which was okay, it was almost slightly dry but not too bad. It was served with sweet potato medallions which were good and collard greens which I really enjoyed . The service was good and everyone was very friendly. The place was not very busy at all, there where only 2 other tables and that was around 6pm. I hope they got busier after I left, maybe they should consider being only open for brunch on Sunday's. read more

Do not go on Theatre night! We met friends for a 5:45 dinner reservation. The menu was a set "theater menu" which was understandable since it was a busy night and most diners needed to be at Chrysler Hall for a 7:30 show. Long story short we missed the first act for no good reason other than extremely inefficient service. Not a great start to what should have been a great evening read more

Upscale cosmopolitan decor creates a relaxing ambiance. The crab cake, in my opinion, is the best in the city of Norfolk. This is the only place where they seem to realize that crab meat is so delicate and the flavor so special that no fillers or spices are needed. The appetizer crab cake with a generous dollop of really tasty potato salad with a side of asparagus makes a perfect meal for the smaller appetite. The waitress was attentive and knowledgable. Love this place. read more

I would love to give this place 5 stars however, my experience was not the most appealing. The food is excellent and the ambiance is off the charts. My issue was with the waitress. It's new years eve, my adult daughter, myself and a friend chose to give 456 Fish a try. We were appropriately dressed because we were heading to church after dinner. The waitress comes over and ask what cocktails we were having. We all chose not to have cocktails b/c we're heading to church which I mentioned to her (duh). This woman was rude and came to our table maybe two times during the two hours we were there. Mind you, we did at least order an appetizer. I guess that wasn't enough. Well, it became very interesting, when she brought the bill to the table I happen to pay with my exclusive American Express..wow! this women was completely different (I guess she figured she'd better treat us properly. If I could afford to have that type of card may we were worth her time). She even offered us dessert after the bill....NICE right! I left her a tip as I usually do but i hd to keep my girlfriend from setting her straight. The hostesses and the servers were very pleasant. I will go back and I would recommend anyone else to go and try the food. I wasn't in a confrontational mood but I won't tolerate it again. It was awful to be ignored and ill treated for no reason. read more

Food is very flavorful. Fish is fresh Friendly service. Nice restaurant. I would recommend this place highly

Outstanding! I had the swordfish special. It was amazing. The best swordfish I've ever had. Our waiter Tanner was incredible.

Had brunch. Crab bisque was nice. Seafood crepes could've used some more distinct / attractive taste. On the expensive side I thought. read more

My husband and I had a terrific experience at 456 Fish. The management was friendly and our server, Kat, was fantastic, giving us just the right attention. I had the best crab cake ever and my husband had a fantastic filet. where can you go to get great seafood and a great steak. The coke cola cake was more than enough for 2 and really finished off a perfect night. We will definitely recommend 456 Fish to our friends. We can't wait to go back Joan Christie read more

I went to 456 fish after checking out all the great reviews, I wasn't disappointed. Right from the start, being able to pull in front of the restaurant and get greeted by the valet made me feel important and impressed my girlfirend. The hostess inside was very friendly and accommodating. Moving me to a quiet table in the back by the unique waterwall. The server suggested the fried oysters to start with, they were big and juicy, very fresh. As for the entree, we both had the 456 Grouper, one of their signature dishes. It was cooked to perfection and layed across delicious plantains. Both being stuffed we decided to split the cheese cake, it was a delight to end the night. The manager even came over to the table before we left just to make sure we had an great experience dining their. Hats off to the entire staff at 456 fish, we will be back read more

Everything about this place was perfect. Jesse my server was polite and prompt. I found that a lot of restaurants in the area were slow with service but not Jesse. The food was amazing. I had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly to my liking. The forest berry chutney was an interesting flavor I welcomed. This is a must visit in Norfolk. read more

Another great brunch at 456 Fish. Excellent service as always and our server Casey was phenomenal!!!

I have lived in Norfolk for 24 years and have never been to this place until last night, our Wedding Anniversary. The place was DIVINE. I got the blackened tuna and it was cooked perfectly. The garlic smashed potatoes just melted in my mouth and the asparagus was wonderful.....I will definitely be coming back! read more

This place is by far the greatest. I was in Norfolk for the jazz festival and was looking for a good brunch spot. Found it! The ambiance is cute and quaint. The service-OUTSTANDING. Luckily it was the beginning of restaurant week so I was able to take advantage of a great brunch special. I had the made from scratch sticky bun-DELISH. I had the crab Norfolk omelet with she crab bisque drizzled on top. It was amazing. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant. Oh! The prices are very reasonable. read more

Outstanding meal! Potato chip encrusted crab cakes were amazing! Lovely, attentive staff. Nice ambience.

I went there for brunch on a weekend. I got the special which was a surf-and-turf omelette. It had soft-shelled crab, steak, and shrimp over an omelette. It was amazing! It came with a biscuit and also potatoes. They had reasonably priced breakfast drinks and good coffee. I think the brunch entree cost around $15, but I ordered one of the most expensive items. read more

If I could give this zero stars, i would. I went for the 'Lobster Night', and paid almost $30 each for what was described as a descent sized lobster by the waiter, which should have been around 1 1/4 pounds Upon arrival, all three were baby lobsters, know as a 'chick' and probably around 1/2 - 3/4 of a pound. These lobsters don't even have a fully developed hard shell, and almost no meat in them. The sell in the local restaurant supply ( I am in the business) for around $5 - 6 / pound, meaning that the lobsters that I paid $28 each for cost them around $4. I asked for the manager, and was rudely told that it was a 1 1/4 pound lobster, and that basically i could go F myself. Normally, any manager would make some apology to a party of three that is spending almost $200 on dinner, with cocktails, appetisers, and a $40 bottle of wine, and at least offered a free desert, or after dinner drink! NOTHING! I left feeling totally ripped off, and will never go to any of their other restaurants. SAVE YOUR MONEY, and find an honest restaurant, that actually cares about their customers! read more

Always a wonderful spot for brunch. Great food and awesome service. Thanks again Steve you are always amazing!

We went here for dinner since it was so close to the Chrysler Center where we were going to see Motown. We arrived at 5:30 and were promptly seated, but then it fell apart. At 6 we were told that they only had 2 of the pork tenderloins and they would need to have someone change their order. We were seated next to their water feature and our purses were wet. The side of the table was wet. We were brought a napkin to clean it up. Our dinners finally arrived at about 7. I asked for the bill to be brought right away so we could leave upon fishing dinner. They refused my VISA gift card. The food was good. read more

Just had a great dinner here! From the moment I entered the service from all staff members was excellent. My waiter, Patrick, visited my table at all appropriate times! I had the smoked mushroom bacon soup to start with, which was excellent! For my dinner I had the single crabcake off the appetizer menu along with a side of spinach. The crabcake is unique in that it's coated in potato chips and inside the pieces of crab were huge and quite tasty. The spinach flavored with garlic was excellent and quite abundant for a side dish. Didn't get a chance to have dessert but will definitely try the next time. All in all, had an excellent dinner, with great waitstaff - will definitely visit again! read more

Beware the curse of escolar. Google it if you want more information. In September I had dinner with friends at 456 Fish prior to going to the Sade concert at the Scope. I was the only one who ordered the "Grouper" special. While the meal tasted ok, not great, the bad part was to come. I tried to enjoy the concert but had to leave my seat at least 6 times to run to the rest room!!! I was violently sick and it wouldn't stop. I suspect that instead of Grouper I was served what is cryptically known as the ex-lax fish or escolar!!! Recent articles have shown that this is a common switch in restaurants. Stay away! You cannot trust that what you order is what you will be served! read more

I agree with the post from a previous review about manager sass. I called the restaurant at 4PM on Saturday and asked for 2 people at 630. It sounded like a manager-type on the phone. He said all I'd have is walk up at the bar and paused for awkward silence. So I continue, any other options for a 2 top? No all I'd have is at the bar. All night? Yeah I'm completely booked in on my "first seating". First, this ain't the Gospel Brunch in New Orleans, you don't have seatings. Second, I just checked on Open Table and you have a 730 and 8 available. Unfortunately this has been pretty much on par for dining in Norfolk since we relocated from Florida. It just pains me to have these experiences as a former Operator myself. Giving a potential guest a bad experience without even getting them in the building and not being compelled to find to accommodate business when none of are in a position to turn away dollars in this industry, it is a sin in hospitality. Be the best, avoid complacency and build a team the embodies your vision. read more
