The service here was very good. You do need to make reservation here during the weekend, and they do restaurant week here. The waiter and waitresses are very sweet. The drinks here was pretty good, both of the drinks I got were not too sweet and not too heavy with the alcohol. The appetizers here are better than the main dish in my opinion. The main dishes were pretty salty and the meat was very dry (I got the duck). If you are looking for a good date vibe, this is a good place to go for some small plates. So we managed to snag a last minute reservation on HarborFest weekend. The place was PACKED! This is normally a bad sign of things to come but not in this case. The waitress was wonderful and incredibly attentive considering how busy they were. The cocktails were out quick even with every seat at the bar being filled. We had the soft shell crab appetizer (seasonal special) and it was delicious. The seafood pasta was very tasty and a huge serving. Definitely worth a visit next time you are on Granby. read more

Hubby and I have been here time and time again. This visit was with out of town family, after burial of my uncle and cousins father. I sent up a silent prayer for this to be a great dining experience for them. Our hostess offered to check our winter coats.. We sat in a cozy booth and immediately checked out the menu. Not knowing that it was Norfolk restaurant week. The Restaurant Week menu offered 3 course specials. Appetizers, entree and dessert. Hubby and cuz went for that option, and his wife and I decided to share the ginormous fish and sides. I sampled some of the She crab soup , and easily I could not stop devouring this rich, flavorful, more of a chowder than soup. The fish well fried lightly floured fish was a great choice accompanied with a cold salad of pickles mixed zucchini and very undercooked day Jasmine rice. We were offered smashed potatoes when I mentioned the rice was not edible. Hubby enjoyed his steak, nicely pink in the center. I guess I snapped picks too quickly and lost it. Came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Looks more modern on the outside but pretty warm decor/atmosphere on the inside. Sat at the bar and ordered she crab soup, oyster stew (special), calamari and a martini. I've started to love she crab soup since being in the east coast, but this one didn't hit the mark - something was missing but it wasn't terrible tasting. Calamari was made as it's usually made - good but nothing unique. Martini was bomb though. Made very well by Dawn - she was our bartender and an excellent personality. Very attentive and made sure our needs were met - thank you! Attention 456: OYSTER STEW NEEDS TO BE ON THE REGULAR MENU. That was one of the tastiest stews/soups I've ever had. The broth with the mashed potato, corn, bacon and oysters?! *chefs kiss* Desert: they ran out of their chocolate dessert so we had bread pudding - it was pretty darn good. All in all - 4/5 stars. I stopped by 456 Fish with my friends before a concert , it is in the perfect location to everything and in our case close to our venue , The Granby Theater. Walked in and everyone greeted us with smiles . It is beautiful inside, lights are dimmed, it's intimate and calming. First, we had the baked feta and fried calamari. This was my favorite part of the meal! I loved the sauce with the baked feta . It was warm and delicious. The bread was delicious! The fried calamari was yummy, very seasoned. We had reservations so we were seated almost immediately. They had a very small and select menu that they revamped once they reopened about 2 months ago. My dad started off with the she crab soup and that was so delicious, nice and creamy and they did not skimp on the lump crab meat. I ordered a sweet moscato that was absolutely delicious that I ended up getting a second one lol. For entrees there wasn't much that made my taste buds get excited so i got the NY strip steak with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. The spinach and mashed potatoes were yummy and good size portions, the steak wasn't that good to me honestly, I usually get my steak medium but my steak didn't seem like it had been seasoned at all. With the steak they have this bourbon butter that comes with it. I should've opted out of that because it made my steak taste sweet and I did not like that at all, I just wanted to give it a shot. But let me finish off by saying our server Angela was absolutely Phenomenal!! From start to finish she was so polite and courteous, knew her menu and offered suggestions, and was very attentive without being overbearing. When we first sat down she asked if we were on a time schedule which I thought was very nice and unexpected because our reservation was at 6 and the play started at 7:30 so she was making sure that we were out of there in a timely manner. She was so pleasant and I really enjoyed her. I would rate my experiences 10/10 just from Angela's service alone. Made a reservation for a 8:45 pm dinner but arrived late. Luckily it seemed many people were out of town for holiday and there were plenty of empty seats, so was seated in no time. The place had a bit of upscale vibe decor with dimmed yellow lighting. Service: very friendly, communicates everything fluently. One small twist-of-tongue though: when I was asking about the blackened red snapper special, the waiter said the place was "out of snapper" for today. But later when I asked about the baked fish, the waiter said they did have snapper as a whole fish, but not fillet. Food: Mashed potato---ordered as an appetizer. Creamy, seasoned well, could serve as an a la carte item. Succotash---too watery and bland for my taste. Also, the corn tasted slightly powdery. Baked whole fish---red snapper, broccolini, baked potatoes, lemon butter with fresh ground black pepper. Fish had very crispy skin and tender fiber inside, just a touch too dry. Seasoning was great though: the fish was not too salty and the lemon butter highlighted the savory taste. Baked potatoes and broccolini tasted standard. Overall: 4-4.5 stars. For a place with "fish" in its name, the baked fish meets my expectations. A bit of improvements and this should be a 5-star restaurant. read more

A belated Valentine's dinner with the hubs. He made reservations for us this past Saturday. The restaurant is easy to find on Granby. Parking is a little more tricky. We dined on a "show night" which meant the place was packed and we got the last parking spot on the small lot beside the restaurant. There are nearby garages and metered spots, so come prepared to pay. The bar was not full, but the dining area was pretty busy. With reservations, we were seated immediately and greeted by our server. We had some time to peruse the drink menu. They have some unique cocktails, which hubby selected. I had a glass of chardonnay. We ordered our drinks and it took a good 20 minutes to get them. I should have known service would be a little slower as the first question our server asked when he greeted us was "do you have tickets to the show?" When we indicated we didn't, I suppose that was a green light to go slow on drinks too. We ordered calamari appetizer, which arrived a good 5 minutes before our drinks. I wanted to wait to enjoy them with the app, but didn't want it to get cold so we dug in. The calamari was delicious and my favorite part of the meal - very lightly breaded and dusted with parmesan. So tasty! Drinks FINALLY arrived - hubs had the Original Fish House Punch, which I tried. I didn't think I'd like it (I hate Chai), but it was SO good and too easy to drink. 2 stars for the calamari and cocktails! We were served warm bread just before entrees, which looked and tasted suspiciously like Sister Schubert's frozen dinner rolls. Don't get me wrong, I love a good frozen roll at the holidays, but I guess I just expected more. Our entrees were served - grouper and the scallops with lump crab risotto. The grouper was served over fried plantains and sautéed spinach. Hubby really liked it. My scallop entrée, unfortunately, had to be sent back as the risotto was barely lukewarm. It was a slight improvement upon return, but was too thick and gummy to really be called a risotto. The scallops tasted fine, but I'm still sort of shaking my head at the price tag accompanying my dinner of 3 scallops. The risotto did have crab in it, but by the time it was (possibly reheated) replated, there was nothing "lump" about it. Given the atmosphere and reputation, I expected more from 456 Fish. We never saw a manager after my entrée was sent back. Things that shouldn't taken much time took too long and the food quality didn't match the price tag. It had been quite a while since we've been to this special-occasion restaurant, and I will likely look elsewhere when planning the next occasion. read more

I came here recently with 3 other people for happy hour on a Thursday. After walking in past the very aggressive dress code sign (In my opinion, if you want to be a classy place, then there are ways to aim for nicely dressed clientele without detailing your expectations on a sheet of paper), the restaurant was practically empty. We quickly got a seat but had to ask twice for menus. To start, we ordered cocktails and the order was already messed up when one drink was missing and another was duplicated. I had the Original Fish House Punch (dark rum, cognac, peach brandy, chai tea, and lemon) which was delicious. I loved the addition of housemade chai syrup to a refreshing drink. We all ordered a bunch of appetizers. Shortly after, my she crab soup arrived. But all of us ordered soup. We asked for the rest and our waitress said she'd go look. Turns out she forgot to put in the rest of the orders. I slowly sipped at the soup because it's rude to be the only one to eat. Eventually I finished the bowl, and the rest of the soups didn't arrive for another 20 minutes when mine was cold. She should have taken mine back and brought us all fresh soups at the same time. Our waitress offered bread to the table next to us. We never received that offer so we had to ask for bread. Which came eventually. THEN, she returns to tell us one of the items we ordered (eggplant primavera) was out. After all this time? The rest of the food came out very slowly. Including a side of asparagus which was $6 for literally 4 and a half stalks of asparagus? The calamari and fried shrimp were crispy and tasty, but incredibly salty. We were New Years Eve diners. We were seated at 6PM and did not get out until 9:30 PM. Granted, we were a large group, but the place was not super busy. We waited well over an hour for our food, then it was not all served together. The quality was sub par, and not close to expectations of an expensive restaurant. Avoid this place. The whole group was left stunned at how bad the food was. The appetizers were actually better by far than the main course. Needless to say, no one ordered dessert. This is not my wife and my first bad experience here. We swore them off several years ago before the pandemic. So, they can't blame that. Wednesday at 456 Fish is a MUST! I'm not sure what was better the food or our amazing server Jack! Last week drove past 456 Fish and my girlfriend automatically said she wanted to dine there. Looking through their website I noticed that they have dinner for 2 EVERY Wednesday. Currently that includes one appetizer, 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees, and one desert...here's the catch...it's only $50.00!!!! Now, usually with a deal like that, most restaurants would provide a little to no food. Not 456 Fish! We ordered calamari as our appetizer, which we ate a good portion at the restaurant and still had enough to take home with us. The Chardonnay was beyond refreshing My entree was the blackened tuna over succotash and garlic mashed potatoes. Her entree was the fried fan tailed shrimp with broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. If you're a southerner like me or just love your food well seasoned. Don't expect that the food will be seasoned like that, BUT it wasn't completely bland. Enough to really enjoy your meal. I'm thinking 456 Fish might just be our favorite 5 star restaurant in Norfolk so far. Whenever you get the chance stop by and ask for Jack (our very attentive and pleasant server). Our waitress Anna S. was nice and helpful being that it was our first time there. Our drinks were goood and the food was delicious. We had appetizers onion soup, calamari and scallops. The waitress gave the FYI there's only 2 scallops. It was still ordered we joked maybe it be 2 big scallops for $18. It came out it was on the smaller side. Cousin said it was delicious though. There is indoor and outdoor dining and a reservation can be made easily on Open Table. We chose this restaurant because it has a menu with a variety of delicious options. There was something for everyone. They even had a children's menu with options like pasta, hamburger, and cheese pizza. I had the Halibut special which was very good. Personally I'd have liked for the Halibut portion being slightly bigger but you know how that goes. The Halibut dish was prepared and executed very well, to the point that I was looking for bread to sop up the last of the Lemon Pepper Thyme Buerre Blanc, it was so good. Bravo. Even the fingerling potatoes were very good. Two others had the Grouper dish which was good but IMO not quite as good as the Halibut dish but were still quite enjoyable. The other dish ordered was the Crab Stuffed Flounder which was reportedly very good, with enough left to take some home. We shared 2 desserts, the Strawberry Cheesecake and I don't remember the other dessert's name. I was pleasantly surprised that both desserts were "worth the calories" and were very much enjoyed. Unfortunately I just experienced a horrible incident in which the manager LISA refused service to a family because the ladies son supposedly had athletic attire on which was shorts and shoes. LISA needs to be educated on diverse attire and should not be working there as a manager. She could care less that that young man just wanted to eat a meal after playing a basketball game in which he had on shorts and adidas slippers. LISA needs to be fired and I wouldn't recommend coming here to eat at all!!! It's so sad that she's that insensitive to kids and patrons especially when the restaurant was practically empty. This is the woman who is borderline racist and pick and choose who to allow in. I would not dine here at this racist establishment. They have several reviews on different platforms that mentioned how bad her service is. We should not allow her to use bias profiling tactics to pick and choose who she personally wants to allow in. My husband had slippers and sweats on but she didn't turn him away at all!! LISA knows who to use her petty tactics on. Their dress code is racially profiling diverse groups.
