Excellent dinner Saturday night. Everything was first class from the appetizer to the entrée with excellent service. We would highly recommend this restaurant! read more

I ordered delivery -- the spinach was sad looking, the lettuce looked old and wilted. We also ordered the fried oysters, and a few hours later I felt like vomiting. The plantains were good, though. read more

Went there for restaurant week and have been there several times before. Ended up not ordering from fixed menu. Salad and swordfish were good and ambiance nice. Ordered a Blanton's and came in a small glass, only about 2/3 full including the ice. When I got the check, was charged $17 for about 1 1/2 oz. absolutely outrageous! If they are going to gouge you on alcohol, they should at least put price on menu, as opposed to getting the unpleasant surprise of paying for a SMALL drink equal to the price of some of the entrees. Many other restaurants that charge a reasonable price for a decent pour. read more

The service here is top notch and the food was superb. I chose the mako shark with a side of honey carrots. Everything was fresh and grilled to perfection. Tonight I dined solo and the hostess didn't look pleased when I asked to sit by the window. They were busy as it was performance night. However, I saw empty two tables by the window that were big enough for a party of 4 and 5, respectively. Fortunately, another gentleman with the restaurant took over hosting duties from the young lady and happily obliged my request by the window. Zack was my waiter and did an amazing job, all while training a new waitress. As I mentioned, I was dining solo and didn't want to engage in much small talk. Zack sensed this from the beginning and gave me just enough attention to get what I needed and enjoy my experience. This is my 2nd time at 456 Fish as I travel to Norfolk infrequently on business. I've referred numerous colleagues from my organization to 456 Fish and after this recent experience, will certainly continue to do so. Thanks again for an amazing dinner. I look froward to visiting again in the near future. read more

Very friendly professional yet down to earth staff. Had the fried oysters. Very tasty with the greens and sauce. Great service. Bartender went out of her way and jotted down some great eateries and a coffee shop near my hotel. I was impressed with how the entire staff cared for me as a person vice a dollar sign. If I lived here this would be my go to place. read more

I was on vacation in Norfolk and we decided to try this place. The food was good but the service was just awful. Our waitress was extremely rude. We got there hours before close and she was rushing us the entire time. My boyfriend went to use the bathroom and she told me to take the wine home so we could finish it. She made us so uncomfortable we left soon after that. Hopefully this was a one time thing.... But it was still very disappointing. read more

Here in March 2017 for the Lindsey Webster concert at the Attucks. Great meal, incredible ambiance, and exceptional service. The potato crusted crab cakes were the bomb! The calamari with the sweet chili aioli were fantastic. The fantail shrimp were huge and delicious. Our waitress, Casey, was very nice and attentive. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Fortunately I did not have any expectations except maybe that I could eat lunch in under an hour. Waitress passed us up for a different table multiple times so we waited 10 minutes just to order food. I explained that we were short on time and she said if would take about 20 minutes. We ordered and then waited. She did drop off a refill, but did not ask if we needed anything. At 25 minutes I went to check on our food and was told by another server that it was not ready (though the previously crowded restaurant had emptied out to maybe 1/3 of the tables taken). He checked on our food and told us the delay was ordering a well done hamburger. So we finally got the cheeseburger and grilled chicken sandwiches after a 30 plus minute wait. The food was ok, but nothing special. I had to flag down the waitress to get the check, she dropped it off without a word and never came back. She checked on the tables next to us but avoided eye contact with me. I finally dug out some cash (I had had my check sitting up at the end of the table with my credit card) and left. Maybe their specials are good, but they cannot be worth the price with service like that. read more

Service on a non busy Wednesday night was very slow, it took 30 minutes to bring out my meal. I ordered Mahi Mahi, the chefs used 2 seasonings ,salt and GARLIC, wait a minute that should have read 3 seasonings, salt and GARLIC and GARLIC. Now for the level of butter, floating in butter. The fish was on a bed of risotto rice, the rice was floating in butter. If I was not starving by the time I got to this restaurant I would have sent it back and walked out of the restaurant. Sad thing is I walked out hungry since it was impossible to eat most of the meal. Perhaps it was just this dish, nonetheless I would not go back for a second chance. read more

My wife and three 24 year old children went to this establishment for dinner on a Friday evening. The food was mediocre at best and the service was worse! As none of us drink alcohol we chose to drink water. ( the restaurant does not serve soda) We felt that we were treated like second class citizens. When we said that we would have water with our meal the waitress got a look on her face I can only describe as a snarl. As we ate our meal, she never came to check on us. I can only assume because we were not drinking alcoholic beverages as she seemed to be very attentive to other tables that were. After a three course meal we waited over 40 minutes for our check. I actually had to walk over to her while she was at another table to ask for the check. I would avoid this restaurant at all cost! Between the five of us the check was just over $140.00 before tip. Very disappointed with food and service. read more

Brunch with the ladies. Yaas. Food was great. Pricing great. Service great. Drinks were good.

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner. I would give this place more more of a 3 1/2 star rating. The setting is nice, as I especially like how all of the fans are interlinked via one fan belt. However, it was rather loud, and I often had to raise my voice in order for my boyfriend to hear me through all the laughter/ruckus of the restaurant. I had the crab stuffed flounder, which was pretty good, but it didn't blow me out of the water. My boyfriend's dish (it was fish, although I don't remember what specifically) was so-so, nothing too special either. The restaurant is pretty good, and I think that it was worth the money, but I think I had higher expectations because my other friends had eaten here and raved about it. The seafood is good, but I think you can get just as good quality for a better price (A.W. Shucks, for example). I wouldn't recommend coming here for a romantic dinner. read more

In all the years my family has frequented this restaurant, I can honestly say we've never had a bad meal here. Although we haven't tried lunch, I think our dinner and dessert experiences are so good I can fairly give 5 stars. Typically, we go to 456 Fish for birthdays or Christmas Eve dinner when we're all in town. We usually have Steve as our waiter (he's fabulous), which brings nice continuity. A word of advice--get the potato chip-encrusted crabcake as an appetizer; it is divine. For this particular dining experience, we each got different entrees--Lobster Mac and Cheese, the Grouper Filet, and Cashew-Encrusted Mahi. While everyone loved their dishes, EVERYONE wanted to "help" me finish the Lobster Mac. Paired with a recommended white wine blend, it was rich and flavorful, but not overpowering. Although the dessert here is great, we had to skip on this particular occasion. If you haven't tried 456 Fish, please do. You will not regret it. read more

My husband and I went here for a date night last night. This was both of our first times here. It's a very pretty restaurant. Large bar area and a lot of seating. They were not very busy at all . We started with the calamari which was fried just right and came with a cream sauce and marinara. It was only rings which my husband prefers. We really liked it. I had the chefs special pasta ... They feature s different one everyday. It had farfalle pasta large shrimp crispy prosciutto and the sauce was a marinara base with olives and capers so it was very savory with a bite . I enjoyed it but probably would not go back just for that. My husband had the seafood platter fried which came with a white fish, shrimp, and scallops. He liked it all but thought the scallops were a little to sweet tasting.over all we had a good experience but probably won't be the first place that comes to mind when we pick a place for date night. read more

Really enjoyed eating at this restaurant. Excellent atmosphere and excellent menu with daily specials. Dined there twice on business. Had the Rockfish first night and pork chop second night. Both dishes were excellent in taste and presentation. $$$ in price. Excellent service in the bar. read more

Excellent service, absolutely outstanding blackened tuna. Crab cakes pretty good-not a fan of the potato chip crust. Great collard greens, mashed potatoes so overcooked they were borderline inedible. Warm and inviting decor, and the area was very pretty as well. Everyone from the manager to the valet parkers were extremely service oriented (even though we didn't drive there!). PS-parking was ample. read more

456 fish has pretty good food, and overall I was satisfied with the experience there. Service was very attentive and pleasant. Don't mistake "good" for "great" and the food here that I have tried was good. Also, unless you are going for seafood, there are better options than 456 fish for the $$. There are non-seafood options, but steak I tried was just OK (it is passable). Recommendation #1: The tuna sashimi appetizer---IS EXCELLENT! This was the star of the night--sesame crusted rare tuna with fresh ginger, wasabi, and seaweed salad. The crabcakes, mahi, and lobster hushpuppies were all good, but I wont be craving them or begging to return for those items....the tuna sashimi appetizer is another story--and its fairly priced at $9. The desserts are also pretty good (tried creme brulee and coconut cake). Would happily go back here with someone else was wanting to go, but this wont be a regular spot or first choice for me. Its pretty expensive and dare I say somewhat overpriced. read more

Went to 456 Fish for dinner with some colleagues from work. The calamari appetizer was delicious - light and crispy on the outside and tender meat on the inside. My blackened wahoo (fish of the day) was tasty and cooked just right. The plating was superb. One of my colleagues had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi and he said that it was delicious. Service was prompt but a bit brusque, this brought down my rating to 4 stars. It could have been better given that it was a weeknight and moderately busy. read more

Delightful Sunday Brunch! The Bananas Foster Flapjacks and Shrimp and Crab Frittata were amazing!

The food is good but not ample and a little expensive for what you get. The staff was fun and helpful. With so many places to eat it was a little out of the way for us and not worth the long walk. We might try it again just to give it another try. read more

Great food and great service by Josh. We definitely will make the trip from Newport News to visit again. The She Crab soup was delicious. I wanted to lick the bowl! I had the blackened salmon, husband had the blackened tuna. read more

By far the best meal and service! Jason was our server and he was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu, both food and wine. I'd highly recommend 456 fish to my friends and family! read more

Had an excellent meal here. Get the grouper for sure. Jason was a great server. Will be back for sure!

Being new to Norfolk, I ate there based on the Yelp recommendation. It was pricey but I expected it and it was worth it. I asked if they had any local beers. He didn't steer me wrong! Like everyone else, the crabcakes and she-crab soup are great. Good atmosphere and I'll be going again. read more

First time there, was during the current Restaurant Week, and we'll be back routinely. Very satisfying. Food was very good (great she-crab and good spring rolls apps, butterflied shrimp and the crab cakes are perfect mains, potatoes not as advertised w/ garlic missing and not roasted but only whipped and needed butter and seasoning, broccoli lacked seasoning and proper steaming as well, desserts good), and service was great (thanks, Bryan. Had to run to the tow shop w/ our daughter if that helps you). Comfortable and business casual atmosphere (aside: our experiences show that many patrons are way too casual for the establishment and for the time of the meals during restaurant week, especially like here and Byrd and Baldwin). Recommend using the valet parking, and making reservations. See you for brunch and often. read more

Our dining experience at 456 Fish last weekend was excellent as usual. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Service was prompt and friendly. We love that we can always go there for a great meal before a concert, show or a movie. For dessert lovers I would highly recommend the coca cola cake! read more

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my meal last night at 456 Fish. We had a reservation and were going to be seated right by the door, which I declined because of the cold air that would be coming in. So, we took a high top by the bar. Our waitress was very nice, but she was also the bartender, so she just couldn't give us her full attention. She never brought rolls to us and it took FOREVER for our food to come out. Our appetizer (spinach, artichoke, crab dip) wasn't that great and my main course - Filet - was not cooked to how I asked. It was just very upsetting to sit there for probably an hour and pay $30 for a steak and have it come out ill-prepared. I wouldn't go back. read more

Had a wonderful meal yesterday. The Mahi and Swordfish were very tasty. We were hosting Coast Guard Cadets and they were treated wonderfully. Visitors with us raved about the meal as well. read more

food and service were marginal, but we might have well been eating in the dark. the table was sticky and you could barely make out what was on your plate. the calamari was not eatable. we paid $110 for what is basic food. way to much money for eating in the dark. the tables were on top of each other. we'll not be back. read more

Great Place ... Good Food .....Free Parking .......Great Drinks.. The Chef even made a table visit to make sure everything was just right ,

I am usually very forgiving when writing a review, but this restaurant never lived up to the great reviews that I read. The food was either "overdone" with too many odd flavors fused together, or rather bland. I called ahead to check if they were child friendly, but when we arrived with two children on a Saturday night, all the local hipsters shot us looks that could kill. Our party was crammed into a table that was one space short, so by the time we added the extra chair to accomodate us (7), we were packed like sardines. Guess that's the price you pay to dine at a popular restaurant, but I can say that popular isn't always good. read more

warning: if you look like you are still in college, you better suit up & dress fancy so that the host will be willing to help you. i had a terrible experience here! when we walked up to the host stand, i had acknowledged to him that we didn't have reservations. therefore, he ried to persuade us to go to their sister restaurant bodegas & said he didn't have any tables available until 930. he didn't offer us to sit at the bar. i saw that there were seats available at the bar so i asked if we could sit there. there was another couple who sat next to us 30 min later. they did not have reservations. we asked them if they were approached the same way about bodegas & they were not. they said the host sat them at the bar. the service was okay. we weren't very pleased. food was okay. so we wanted to get our dessert to go. i had forgotten i had ordered creme brulee. they poured my creme brulee in a soup bowl and did not torch it. i was furious when i got home and saw that. they gave me a soupy dessert. it was terrible. i'm never going back. i will not give my money to an establishment that will treat their customers & discriminate age. read more

Great choice for Restaurant week. Grouper fillet was perfect. Cannoli dessert was so good I wanted to lick the plate. At $30 for a three course dinner, worth the money, absolutely. Not a romantic hideaway, kind of noisy with high ceilings but the food is wonderful and service was fine. I only wish they had more choices for wine by the glass. Still based on food and service I rate it a 5. read more

We had the SheCrab Soup, taste good but NO crab. I had the stuffed flounder with crab, had no taste, appear to be old, I should have sent it back. My wife had fried scallops, they were not fresh. Will not go back there again. read more

My wife and I arrived for an early dinner. Ordered spring rolls, she crab soup for appetizers. Food arrived hot and fresh. There was however a hair cooked into one of the spring rolls. No problem though, they apologized and replaced the roll. I ordered cashew encrusted mahi, my wife ordered the stuffed flounder. Again food was delicious and portion size was good. All was forgiven until I bit into a metal staple from one of their produce crates. It was cooked into my asparagus. The waiter apologized profusely. The manager comped my meal. Oddly not my wife's or the appetizer with the hair in it. We all make mistakes. I prefer it's not with something I'm eating. We won't be back. Too bad. read more

This is the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. A medical condition forces me to take in a lot of calories, and I warned the waitress in advance; small portions do nothing for me. She claimed that the amount of food would be fine. When the miniature lobster macaroni came, I could do nothing but laugh and send it back. Twenty dollars for a few forkfuls? The server insisted that she could charge me anyway. I resisted, much as you probably would. Well, the manager didn't like that too much. Deplorable. I had told the server of the issue well in advance. For balance sake, I should say that no one else complained, though my party did indeed agree with my opinion on the staff's behavior/overall service. There's a fine line between intransigence and righteousness. I certainly feel that I'm on the correct side. Thanks for your time. read more

One star only because zero isn't an option. In town for a work training event and was given a lost of restaurants that agreed to give discounts or freebies to our group. We decided to try 456 Fish. At the hostess desk I asked about the freebie and the manager said rudely that she didn't know anything about it. She was shown the flyer with the offer and said that since it was restaurant week it would not be honored. We decided to stay anyway. We ordered from the restaurant week menu. Several of our party of 8 ordered the shrimp and grits, including me. I also had the calamari appetizer. My dish looked ENTIRELY different from the shrimp and grits across the table. When I ask why the were so visibly different, I was told that all orders of shrimp and grits were prepared at the same time but mine was plated last with what was leftover and the forgot to put sauce on the one l tickets to get a cheaper check. Then it took over 30 minutes for them to correct THEIR mistake. And to end this long post WE ALL GOT SICK!!!! read more
