It's always a bad start when they make you wait to be seated and the restaurant is half empty. Then once you get seated you wait for quite a while for someone to even take a drink order. Then they manage to screw up the order of the famished pregnant woman in the group. Then you have to hunt the server down to get the check. On top of all that, the food was average at best. Hungover, and with only an hour to spare for brunch before I had to catch the bus back to DC, we set out on mission impossible. Our thinking was: find a place close to the bus depot so that if we suffered any delays we'd at least be close enough to the depot for me to just skip brunch altogether. They held my backpack for me at the front in the coat check so that I was ready to go. Given the 4-star reviews on Yelp, I was very disappointed. I had the seared scallops, which were not very good. Certainly not worth $28. And my wife had the blackened tuna, which was not good at all. Here's a couple of reason why I gave a 3-star rating. I want to start by saying the staff, the mimosas, and the amount of food play a BIG role in this. The wait staff was so courteous especially when according our big party. Lissstteeennnnnn, those mimosas. AMAZING. And they're at a great price as well! I really could've kept drinking that if I wasn't drinking home lol. They were the perfect ratio of prosecco to orange juice (more prosecco, which I love personally). Now let's talk the actual food. I got the chicken + waffles and before I talk about the negatives, I will say that the chicken + waffles complimented each other perfectly which is something some restaurants fall to make sure of. Although they were a good pair, they were crrraazzyyyy DRY. Like everything needed sauce. The chicken + waffles and the home fries. I was legit parched while I was eating. Eating at 456 Fish was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent (both my wife and I had the salmon), the waiters were attentive, and the mood comfortable. The only issue I have with this restaurant is the parking. Perhaps once all of the road improvements have been completed this issue will go away. read more

My girlfriend and I chose 456 Fish solely because of the reviews here on Yelp; we were in the Norfolk area and looking for a slightly upscale place to eat but weren't familiar with the area. We arrived late (8:30 ish) so the place was not particularly crowded (two big groups, a few smaller tables). We were seated quickly and greeted by our server quite quickly as well (though she ended up being somewhat slow throughout the night, she was very nice and I'll chalk up her slowness to it being the end of the night and her having closing duties to take care of). The menu had a nice variety of food, ranging from seafood to pasta to steak. We started off with the sea scallops ($12?) and the lobster spring rolls ($7). The scallops, while HUGE, were not plentiful (we only got two) and there was nothing particularly special about their flavor, to the point that they were almost bland. The lobster rolls were quite good; nice and crispy with nice chunks of succulent lobster in the middle. From there we skipped salads/soups and moved onto entrees. My girlfriend had pan seared rare ahi tuna with fried asparagus, wasabi mashed potatoes and a maple soy sauce ($22). The tuna was perfectly cooked and very good (that coming both from my girlfriend, a tuna lover, and myself, not so much a tuna lover). Though the tuna itself was nothing to write home about, my gf said that the combination of the flavors of the sauce, potatoes, and asparagus, as well as the physical arrangement of the food on the plate, was the best tuna presentation she had ever had. I had grilled tilapia over mashed potatoes topped with jumbo lump crab meat mixed with boursin cheese, with some ratatouille on top ($24). Phenomenal. They gave me a huge amount of crab meat which was much enhanced by the boursin. The tilapia was very well cooked and nice and flaky. My only complaint was that the mound of ratatouille on top of the crab/tilapia made it hard to just get a scoop of the crab/tilapia combo. It would have been better if the ratatouille was on the side, but it's a minor complaint considering I ate it all with gusto. All in all, great dining experience. Attentive service, very reasonable prices, good wine list, great atmosphere. Will definitely return if ever in the area. read more

Man. This is good seafood. Expect small delicious plates and for it to be a little pricey but it was well worth it. We got the soft shelled crab appetizer special, coconut shrimp, and surf and turf entree to split. Everything was spot on, even the garlic mashed potatoes (the perfect amount of garlic). First time here. The soup of the day (Fish and Coconut) was excellent. My main course was a signature dish (Grouper Fillet) was not as good. It was dry and not very flavorful. Hubby, daughter and I ate at 456 Fish for lunch today...we shared the calamari, daughter had a burger and I had the crab cake sandwich. Alomost forgot...hubby had the scallops appetizer as his meal and I also had a bowl of she crab soup. Ok, the crab cake sandwich was ok but not the best...it by far does not beat AW Shucks crab cake anything...! The calamari was ok, daughter didn't like the burger and hubby said the scallops were pretty darn good. The she crab soup was pretty good as well; however, I have had better so it didn't leave a remarkable impression on my taste buds. The service was average and the saxophone player was nice. The restaurant does have a cool cieling fan...like this really matters but I felt the need to share...lol. Not sure if we will go back due to the average meal and high cost...we nearly spent $80.00 with nothing really to rave about. read more

I came here with some friends for the first time and we enjoyed the atmosphere. It has an intimate setting perfect for a date but can also serve for a good place to have a nice dinner with some friends. Our waiter was very helpful and a great server. We had fried calamari and the egg rolls for an appetizer which were good. For the main course I had the crab stuffed flounder with a lovely garlic mashed potatoes I believe it was lol I hope I'm somewhere near right. One of my friends had the well known crab cakes which were some of the best I've ever had. The food was delicious however when it was time for dessert the bread pudding was amazing!
