We had the calamari appetizer and it was delicious, then the stuffed shrimp and Norfolk Crab. The food was great, wait staff attentive and the bartenders drinks were awesome. A little pricey but worth it for a nice evening out with your significant other. read more

Dined at 456 Fish as part of Norfolk Restaurant Week 2018 with another couple. It was a snowy night- so very few people dining in. However, our service was not to the standard of the fine dining that 456 Fish is. We were also asked if we wanted our food boxed, they took it, but never brought it back. She crab soup was fantastic and their vegan noodles were delicious as well. read more

This was a really nice place to eat. Very sophisticated, I love the location, they have valet and a very small parking lot if you make it there early. The prices range from $25-40 a plate. The calamari was amazing. I would give it 5 stars but I reserved a table and I was expecting a more elegant place to sit since I reserved us seats but instead we were placed RIGHT next to a table which made me feel like we were just one big party. I would of liked some privacy with my family read more

Been dining here for years now, and I've yet to have a bad experience. For starters, the location is perfect. If you're a fan of the theater, opera, or local sports, it's a stone's throw away from the Chrysler Hall and the Scope arena, making it the "go to" restaurant to dine in before a show or a game. They feature a parking lot and a valet service, which is great because parking can definitely be an issue downtown. The valet attendants are always very courteous and professional. What's more, your server or bartender will even offer to take your valet ticket and have them bring the car around for you and having it waiting out front when you've concluded your meal. It's those kind of touches that really set a place apart. When you walk in, you immediately notice a long, tall artificial waterfall that separates the lounge area from the main dining room, and an absolutely gorgeous copper bar top. Even the ceiling fans are unique, driven by a central belt and motor system. All around, there are large black and white photos of Norfolk from the past, really establishing the "local" feel of the restaurant. The tables and fixtures are all made of fine wood, and the candle lit atmosphere and jazz music playing over the sound system make it a nice, intimate setting. While their beer selection is a bit limited, the wine and martini options are outstanding, and even if you don't know your stuff when it comes to libations, the knowledgeable staff will make great recomendations for you. Some of the best gin martinis I've ever had in my life were made by the bartenders at 456 Fish. When it comes to the food, they just might be the best seafood option in town. My personal favorite entree is the grouper filet. The fish itself is white, flaky, and cooked to perfection, and the combination of the creole sauce and the fried plantains compliments the fish with a spicy/sweet combination I';ve never seen anywhere else, and you can really see there is some caribbean influence to the menu. The ahi tuna seshimi is something else also. Perfectly seared on the outside, and the wesabi and ginger accompaniments really set it off. The entire staff have never been anything but friendly, courteous, and professional. Even when there is a full house, they know how to make you feel like the only customer. Truly a gem, and I'll continue to be a loyal customer. read more

Overall great experience. The potato chip crab cakes were pure crab meat. Strongly recommend those! The coffee was smooth and creamy. The bread pudding for dessert was also great! The decor is upscale but not intimidating. The portions were very appropriate (big but not too big). read more

456 Fish - Seafood Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

First time to visit this restaurant and it was quite a treat! A friend recommended for brunch so we gave it a shot Sunday afternoon. There was plenty of room as we arrived after the normal rush time. I had the "hot mess" which included toast, hash browns, a chicken fried steak with white peppered gravy, and topped by a fried egg. These delicious ingredients were stacked high on the plate and were very reasonable at $10.99 for the amount of food I got. My wife had the norfolk crab omelette and was delicious as well. Lots of crab and drizzled with their famous she crab bisque. Delicate and rich, this dish was well worth the $14. Ado a bonus were the $3 mimosas and Bloody Mary's. the Bloody Mary was spicy and excellent. Great brunch spot! I want to try other options on their menu the next time we visit Norfolk. read more

We showed up, the appetizers were fantastic but the server was awful and the seafood pasta taste like throw up, as well as the filet mignon was cold. But when we told her (the server), she was super rude about it. The manager came over and talked to us and was super nice. When we got the check and payed, the server was immediately there to take the check (keep in mind she didn't check on us the entire meal). She didn't remove either of the dishes that she was informed had issues. If the server was more considerate this wouldn't have been an issue but due to the rudeness, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We had made the reservation in advance and had just come from shopping. We had no prior idea of the dress code requirements. When we arrived we were seated quickly, which was fine, but then it got weird. We were being stared at by not only the owner and his wife but by other people in the restaurant. My family and I were dressed in jeans and tshirts, nothing too casual but not dressy enough. Instead of coming up and telling us that we were not dressed appropriately to dine there they stared at us and talked about us behind our backs for about 20 minutes. It took my mom going up to the owner and hostess and asking outright if we were dressed ok for them to tell us that we were not. Keep in mind this is AFTER we had already ordered $30 worth of drinks. Once my mother was told that we were not allowed, not by the owner but by the HOSTESS that was standing RIGHT NEXT TO HIM, we paid our bill as we were still being stared at and then took our leave. Only our waitress apologized to us for the rude treatment. The owner said nothing as we walked out, almost as if we were insignificant. While I understand that we were at fault for not looking up the proper dress code beforehand, I feel as though this situation could've been handled better, ESPECIALLY by the owner. If this is how he treats people who are not dressed appropriately for his establishment then they will never get my business again. read more

Took our daughter here for her birthday and was disappointed with the service. They thought their entrees were acceptable, although not remarkable. I ordered the surf and turf and the steak and lobster were both cold. The waiter told me they would probably remake, but the manager comes out with the same plate 2 minutes later. I informed her that it was warm, but the steak which I had ordered as Medium, was now Medium Well with almost no pink. She insisted I show the steak to her, as she needed to verify for herself. She then tells me it is medium, because medium well has no pink. Maybe this is up for interpretation???? I order steaks often and I've always been told that medium is a warm pink Center, and medium well is a thin line of pink. She disputed me down and walked away. Dont waste your time or money at an establishment who doesn't value their customers. read more

Food was excellent! I got the potato chip encrusted crab cake. I wish everything in my life could be encrusted in potato chips. The risotto is excellent too--just like Ma used to make it in the old country. Check out their excellent menu of dessert drinks. We loved the Peppermint Patty! All in all great place to impress a date or take your senile mother out for a good meal! read more

Went with my family today for the first time to try the restaurant week brunch. Food was so-so (under seasoned and lukewarm), service was slow, waitress was inattentive. Overall, not impressed and will likely not be returning. read more

We eat here about once a month before we go to the symphony. It is a lovely restaurant, great waitstaff, nice big city ambiance and a great selection of food both fish and meat. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered but especially like the fried shrimp and beet and goat cheese salad. The bar is good and the bar tender knows what she is doing. read more

While I was satisfied with the restaurants staff and service, I found managements "strong arming tactics" unsettling, disappointing and rude for a service business that relies upon positive experiences and customer reviews! This one fails the common axiom of courtesy to everyone! My initial reservation was accomplished via OpenTable Mobile 4 days prior. Erin, a general manager, left a voice mail to confirm my intended attendance. I responded several days later and was advised that a credit card was now needed to hold my reservation. I asked why one one wasn't required at my initial booking, why now? (this was not an OpenTable representative) Her response was that it was the "owner's policy". I asked if it was in writing and would she provide it to me? As she couldn't and I was unwilling to provide a credit card, we left the conversation with my affirmation to be present for my sitting and she stating that if I wasn't present at my appointed time, my reservation would be cancelled. Literally minutes later, I received an email from OpenTable indicating that my reservation had been cancelled by the restaurant! Yikes, these folks are serious! How cowardly for not stating that as an outcome of my non-compliance. Aren't these folks in the service business?? I called the restaurant directly and asked that my reservation be reinstated. It was. But again, the restaurant called and asked for a credit card to confirm my intention in keeping my reservation. Again, same comment on "owner's policy" however this time, the speaker said that "I didn't have to take the call"??? How exhausting! You get, I acquiesced (my bride was unhappy due to Valentine Day), but I was feeling wronged. I later determined that OpenTable has a mechanism to meet this requirement if the restaurant has a need to confirm intent of attendance. The restaurant had not set up their interface correctly for the special event and now the management team was being forced to compel a new condition up patrons. My biggest issue with giving my credit card number verbally to an unknown individual without a caller ID, without the comfort a secure interface and outside of my original conduit begs to be reviewed. While I've taken the time to write this review, I'm not compelled to give anything other than an "Meh. I've experienced better". read more

I went here during restaurant week and was not impressed. I had a fillet of red snapper and it was clearly not fresh. My buddy who was with me said the same thing about his grouper. I'd like to try coming here again though since I've heard great things since. Maybe it was just a fluke. Service was so so, but my real problem with the restaurant was the food was downright inedible. Nothing was seasoned and the fish tasted like it had been sitting around for a week. Again, maybe just a fluke, but it still left me a little weary about this place. read more

Wow, what a horrible experience. When we sat down, our waiter immediately arrived to take our order. When we gave it to him, his decision to not write it down piqued our interests. The food arrived, except it tasted horrible. The salads were so drenched in dressing, it was essentially Caesar dressing soup with a few pieces of lettuce. It was somehow still bland though. When a few people did get soup, it was ridiculously spicy. I had never had a spicy clam chowder before, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. Maybe there were new cooks in the kitchen. When it was time for one person in our party to receive their entree, it never came. After waiting for 40 min and not getting the entree, we called the waiter over and asked about the entree. He said "Y'know, I thought I remembered someone ordering pasta, but wasn't sure, so I didn't check or put in the order." We then suggested that next time, he might want to write down the order, at which point he chuckled and walked away whiteout saying a word. Without offering to place the order or make the situation right, he brought the check and didn't say anything. I would have left a tip, but I forgot to write it down. I guess it happens to everyone. When I approached the manager, he apologized profusely but did nothing to make the situation right, such as a refund. If you're looking for food, don't come here. If you're looking for a great story to share with friends about a horrible dining experience, check this place out. Just be sure to write down the story so you don't forget it. read more

Was visiting town and, being from the Midwest, I wanted a chance to try out some seafood. 456 Fish did not disappoint on that front. My entire party thought the food was excellent. We had the spinach crab dip as an appetizer and we all raved about it. Likewise, our entrees were very well prepared and tasted delicious, particularly the lobster mac and cheese and the seared salmon. Our server Zach was accommodating and one of the most polite servers I've ever met. I would certainly recommend 456 Fish to anyone visiting the Norfolk area. read more

Our family of four went to 456 Fish for Thanksgiving. The drinks were good - Cape Cods and a bottle of wine. The dinners however were another matter. Three of us ordered the advertised "traditional Thanksgiving meal". -- The fourth diner ordered a steak and it came to the table hot and very tasty.yu -- The restaurant was not crowded by any stretch of imagination. The other three came to the table cold. The waitress apologized and took them away. After a few minutes, the plates were returned to us, no warmer than the first time. It appears they had been put under a heatlamp since the marshmallows on the sweet potatoes were now burned but the food was no warmer. The waitress came back to ask if our meals were better to which I replied "they are still cold." At that point, we were not hungry anymore. After receiving our dessert, which was part of the meal, we asked for the check. We received a bill of $250 and a suggestion from the waitress that we complete the comment card, because "the owner reads all the comments and takes them seriously." We completed the card and have now waited 5 days. No response from the restaurant so - this review and I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone ever again. I have been to many restaurants on Granby Street and have enjoyed all of them. I even enjoyed a meal at 456 Fish probably 3 or 4 years ago. But this, it just ruined our Thanksgiving. Update: About 2 weeks after our meal, the restaurant called to apologize for our meal and offered a gift card. The gift card (the amount was for about half of the cost of the 3 "traditional Thanksgiving meals") arrived about 2 weeks after that. I appreciate the gesture but have learned to be careful where I go for holiday meals. read more

I have been here for dinner at least a dozen times over the last couple of years. Today us the first time I have tried their brunch offering and I doubt I will ever do so again. I get the regular emails from (I believe her name is Kathy H.) them and was excited to try a new brunch spot. The drinks were great. The service was excellent. That's where the good stops. I ordered the eggs benedict with crab. The plate was cold, as were the home fries (I admit that I am picky, but what chef is unable to chop onions to a similar size and remove the onion peelings??!!), the english muffin was burnt (THE explanation was that the grill caused it as opposed to the cooks), the presentation was messy and crab addition did nothing because there was no prep, no seasoning. In short, it came up quite short. My mother ordered the Regular Joe and her food was cold. She sends it back after seasoning her eggs and do you know when the brought out her "new" plate, it was the same cold egg. Come for dinner, you shouldn't be disappointed, but brunch was a let down. read more

Ok, let me first say that after reading the reviews I had high expectation that sadly were not met. For starters the place was so busy that there was only one table, which didn't bother me. Then it took the waitress like 20 mins to come back to take our order. The food was nothing to write home about. They don't offer frozen drinks. Also when we had requested one additional pieces of bread we never got. To add salt to the wound, the waitress was extra friendly and remembered who we were when it was time pay the tip. All i have to say is when a restaurant decides to up their prices I as a customer expect MUCH better. Telling me that you're busy, is inexcusable and not my fault as a customer. I've been in plenty busy spots that still provide great service. I'm paying just as much as everyone else. I won't be going back. read more

Poor quality for the taste/ambiance. Was a bit skeptical why they appeared not busy at a prime location at a prime time. Looked at the menu and immediately knew I was in for about $75-100 after a couple drinks, apps, and entrees. Service was great. Enter appetizer. Some type of fish dip. So salty it was unpalatable and sent back. My entree was Grouper. Felt it was not moist, certainly not impressive. The best part was the side fried plantain, which shouldn't have been the case. Wife said she enjoyed her fried shrimp, but the mash potato tasted like what she can make at home. The entrees were about $30 each. Tasted like it should've been about half that. More on par for a meal at a chain restaurant, certainly not what I thought would be the case for a meal that ran up to $80 or so. Manager came and took my feedback due to honest opinion of above to server. She was nice. Server was great. But unfortunately, the quality of my food experience for their price point is indicative of why the restaurant was only about 1/4 full on a Saturday night at 7:30pm. read more

I have heard wonderful things about the seafood at this place and live less than a block away so decided to check it out with my husband for dinner. I ordered the chef special which was salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The place is beautiful, the waitress was extremely nice and polite, and the food was wonderful. My salmon came with this strawberry mango salsa which I was worried would be too weird. But it paired deliciously with the salmon. The fish itself was fresh, juicey and cooked so nicely it almost melted in your mouth. read more

The food was good BUT it took FOREVER. I think we ordered drinks and a main course. No one was in there with the exception of a few other tables and we sat there for at least an hour waiting for food. We ate at 456 Fish before a concert at Chrysler Hall. Perfect located for a short walk to the theater. We informed the staff that we had a time limit on our dining. They made every accommodation to assure we had our food and check in plenty of time to make our show. We asked for a wine recommendation to accompany our meals. We were introduced to McManus chardonnay. A medium, delicious white which didn't over-power the meals. The food: Scallops with Asparagus Risotto special and Cashew Encrusted Mahi with coconut risotto. Both meals were outstanding! With the risotto being especially creamy and flavorful. We will be returning for another meal. The coconut risotto beckons. read more

I came on a Friday night for my birthday dinner with 6 other guest on 02/16/2018 and was embarrassed I even came. Service was horrible, the waiter forgot 2 appetizers( and said sorry I forgot to put them in), kept disappearing, dropped a roll on the table and put it back on my guests plate. Once our food came out we had nothing to drink the entire dinner because waiter couldn't be found. Or food was very bland for most Part. Most all of the employess were at the bar and high top tables around the bar eating and drinking. I spoke with the manager she lied and said she would discount our tabs and didn't. They also added a 25 cake fee which was never mentioned when we brought it in. I asked to speak to the manager again and could see her throw her hands up to her head as if I was bothering her. I truly felt as if I was on the show pranked. This was our first experience and last. read more

I am writing you about the service we had tonight. Friday the 16th of Febuary. Myself and the 6 other people with me for a birthday dinner were very dissatisfied with the service and customer service we received from your staff. From the waiter to the "General Manager" as she told us. I am just going to list few things that I feel a restaurant of this nature with 4.2 stars , should have never happened. 1. Waiter dropped roll while placing on plate and still continued to place it on the plate. Instead of getting a new tea roll. 2. Forgot 2 of the 3 appetizers that was ordered. (He forgot) 3. No one at the time was asked if we would like refills on drinks at anytime of the night. & it took 10 min to get a soda. 4. I asked for pepper, the response to that was Fresh Black Pepper??? Shouldn't that have been done when I received my meal?? 5. Went and boxed a dinner up to take home and never brought it back to table. ( He forgot) 6. He stayed in his little work station most of the time, out of view so we couldn't even ask for things. 7. They cut a cake for us that we brought in, and without letting us know charged a $25.00 cake fee. Shouldn't that have been said at the time we brought it in. 8. While we spoke to the manager about our issues, she told us to sit there and not pay our bills, ONLY to be printed off the same bills. All the same except for the cake fee. why were we asked to not pay our bill and sit there, if we weren't being compensated one way or another. 9. When we asked the manager to come to the table to speak with her again. , She threw her hands on her head, as to say Oh my goodness.....What?? 10. After explaining to us she took off our gratuity , which she didn't because we only had 7 people, so why would gratuity be added. The menu says over parties of 8. She then explained to us, it was because of the way our table had to be set up. Are you kidding me ???? 11. She then proceeded to tell us, she couldn't do anymore , because he didn't actually ignore us through the night. I believe that If I'm going to a 4star restaurant, you should receive 4 star service. Which was the very least. The restaurant was not busy for us to have no drinks through our dinner and to have to wait for 10 minutes to even receive our drinks when ordered. If this is not the General Manage or Owner which is who I wish to speak to, so please pass the word. Unsatisfied Customer, Tiffany Johnson 2378267 read more

I've been here three times for lunch, and been pleased w/ my meal every time. Seems a little pricey, but so far I've only been when someone else is treating so, no worries! The turkey croissant is exactly what it says it is--just be sure to ask for some mustard. The fish tacos are REALLY good; I've had them twice and it is going to be hard to ever go there and order something different. Unless I am footing my own bill, in which case I will get one of the sandwiches again; most def. No issues w/ the service. They are really good about asking for your coat, so that's nice. Personally, I don't like giving people my coat, though. Usually have stuff in the pockets, don't want to invite a situation. In fairness, none of my coworkers' coats have been robbed. I'm just very cautious about such things. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite before a show a few weeks ago and sat at the bar. The restaurant and bar area are beautiful, but not enough to make up for the inconsistent service. We shared the calamari and then each had an entree (Grouper and Lobster Mac 'n Cheese). All of the seafood was well cooked and tasty, but there were a few execution errors: the fried plantains were buried and became soggy; the Béchamel sauce in the Lobster MaC was overworked and too thick. For the price, there are better options in the downtown area. read more

I have only been to 456 Fish for brunch on Saturday and Sunday and I have been incredibly pleased both times. The atmosphere is very nice, and there is live saxophone music that is not intrusive or overpowering in the space. The prices are reasonable , think $8-$16 for brunch, and the mimosas/bloody mary's are well-priced too. Service is obviously a priority, and this is one of the reasons I chose 456 Fish for a family brunch. There is also an adjacent parking lot, which is convenient if you hate to parallel park. My favorite brunch item is the Tomato Tower, consisting of poached eggs, garlic spinach, tomatoes and canadian bacon. The lunch menu is also avaialable for those who are not into eggs, crepes, or french toast. read more
