I'm not sure if I like the concept of this bar or not. Thank goodness I showed up late and had friends who had already gotten themselves set up...because the setup process is not clear or familiar in any way. It works like this: go up to the bar, give then your id and credit card, and they will give you one of their cards and keep your credit card and license. You use their card to scan in front of any of the self pour taps, and it gives you 15 seconds to pour your beer. The glasses are in a cooler at the end of the bar. Your total goes off ounces poured, so that's how your bill is figured. If you want to order food, you have to do that at the bar. They will give you a metal stand with a playing card to take back to your table. When you're all done, go back to the bar, pay your tab, and get your stuff back. They have a nice beer selection, including nitro pours, local beers, and specialty brews. There are video games, a game room, and pictures of archer characters on the bathroom doors...I like the decorations and the layout...but there are also things that I don't like. One, the amount of time it takes to get the scan card at the bar register. That needs to be streamlined somehow...second, the lack of interaction from the staff. Maybe the time setting up the card wouldn't have seemed so long if the girl had made small talk, our eye contact...something. She didn't say a single word, and that made it ridiculous. No greeting, no conversation...me just standing there in silence while she worked on the register. So awkward. The second thing I didn't like is going to make me sound like a stick in the mud...but this place is not the safest...leaving people to their own vices...and I am speaking from experience. You can pour as many 8% beers as you want, all day long. No limits, no one keeping track of how many drinks you've had. I love it and hate it at the same time. They do serve good food...good fries with lots of topping options, chicken and waffles, and burgers (which are elongated and served on a hoagie roll. Just a heads up). The fried pickles are great too, but come out at 400 degrees and never cool down. Definitely worth trying, especially if you can practice some self restraint. :-) read more

What a wonderful place to hang out with friends and enjoy the night! 417 Taphouse has an excellent Happy Hour including great discounts on both drinks and food. The food options are few, but are of high quality. I had the "forty-two" which included four breaded chicken "nuggets" and two oval-shaped waffles made with love. The taste is wonderful and the syrup is warm. Sadly they do not have honey mustard, but the food is great none-the-less. The waffles are nice and warm, not too heavy, not too light and have a nice crisp. It also comes with their signature fries which are very addicting! There is plenty of food for the money, leaving me enough for a second meal the day after. Other foods tried by other people with high remarks are: Happy hour special chicken tenders and fries, stuffed fries topped with veggies meat and all kinds of cheese, and burgers. The selection of beer and other specialty drinks is excellent. I did not try the card operated beer machines, but they looked pretty stellar. The "Not your father's root beer" is the drink to get for those not as much into beer. It has just the right amount of sweet and alcohol without being too much of either. There is plenty of seating and space both inside and outside with lighting and a smooth atmosphere. Unlike most bars, you do not feel claustrophobic or overly packed into a small space. They also offer a "living room" area with video games and some not so complacent controllers. Other games are also located in the front. Overall, the bar is a great place to go with friends to enjoy yourself, talk, gossip, and enjoy some good ole' video games. Chill place with friendly, helpful staff. read more

Ok, friendly service (thanks Joetta), darts, shuffleboard, skee-ball, chicken and waffles, Star Wars (and other) geeky decorations everywhere, Nintendo and couches, and I haven't even gotten to the beer yet! You have the option for self pouring using an RFID chip card to unlock taps around the bar. It even tracks how much you've drank and spent. This place is amazing. My co-worker and I thought of extending our trip into Springfield a few extra days just to get more time at this bar. Next time I'm in Springfield, I'm heading here. read more

I'm sure Taphouse is a fun place for many, but I've noticed that certain members of the staff are rude, tactless, and talk down to patrons. I ordered the cheese sticks along with a seasonal mother's beer and they were undercooked and didn't have any seasoning on them i think the batter was just straight flour. So gross! Not worth 6.00! This was one of the first actual bars I've ever been to. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's fun to go on weekends because there's more people, so it's a more fun atmosphere. I do prefer going during the week though. Trying to order a drink when they're busy is hectic, you have to fight for the bartenders attention but I don't mind so much. They have many kinds of beers and drinks to choose from. My only thing is how expensive they are in comparison to how much you actually get. We were all sitting at a table, having a great time. There was not a "reserved " sign on the table when we sat down. We were subsequently very rudely told by an employee that the table was reserved, and that we would have to leave. The drinks are good, the food was all right--although my friends chicken was undercooked and made her sick--but the service (or lack thereof) was not acceptable. I'm not the type that is easily dissatisfied with service. Apparently, it is a very "self-serve" kind of thing, which is fine, but there was no sign that told us to order drinks and food at the bar. We sat at our table for almost 20 minutes and they saw us, but never came to clear off the plates and napkins of the previous customer; my friend had to do it on her own. Finally, I went up and asked if they have servers, and she was pretty short and not very personable. We had a large party and we asked if there were any more chairs that we could pull over and she said no and passive aggressively told us "I could have had enough chairs for you if you had made a reservation..." it's a sad thing when customer service ruins a good environment and what could have been a good night with friends. *Bonus: they do actually bring the food to you once you have ordered.* read more

This review is reflecting how the bar closes and a bartender named Natalie. We all know that you serve yourself at Taphouse. The only interaction you have with the bar staff; is getting a card. Went to the tap and served ourselves, sat down and had the beer ripped out of hands as bringing the glass up to our lips. Didn't know they were at last call...... a nice interaction with the staff would have been nice. Since you are in business to serve the customer an interaction as, "Excuse me but we need to close and can you take one more drink". They should turn the taps off so you can not serve yourself after a certain time. Don't blame the customer for serving themselves when the taps are still open. Tried to talk to manager and as we were discussing situation the bartender, Natalie , was flipping us off behind the managers back. BRAVO on your professionalism. read more

expensive even if you hit happy hour, and maybe I suck at pouring beers but I never let them overflow and ended up with half full beer's by the time the head (foam) went down and still payed $38 for 5 beers (you pay for the ounce and that includes head which is in no shortage). Should have let bartender pour, but that kinda defeats the point. On top of that you have to pay for all the games they have to play. Won't be going back and I hope the next business there has an original idea that works. They did have good art on their walls, and for sale. But that's not why I visit bars. read more
